MILLION DOLLARS CASH VALUE CHILD PLAN Sandeep Ahuja
O
ur children are our futurethe apple of our eyes; we see our dreams through them and they are life’s most valuable gift for any parent. While we endeavour to provide them with the best in every aspect of life, gifting them life insurance coverage will prove an immensely valuable asset for them. There are various life insurance options available which cater to varying needs of people. Among these, the whole life participating insurance offers permanent life insurance with premium that remains ‘levelled’ throughout the life of the insured. The best part of this insurance coverage is that it offers a wide range of salient features, prominent among them being: • Guaranteed levelled premium, a promised death benefit, cash surrender values and the option to enhance your basic policy with additional benefits and riders • Growth of your savings in a taxsheltered manner • Growth of funds that is fairly steady • Cash values that can be used for any financial need • An annual dividend paid out through different dividend options such as the ability to purchase additional life insurance and reduce the amount of your premium • The increase in the amount of death benefit owing to the cash value build due to the dividends • Option to pay up premiums within a shorter period of time such as 10 years or 20 years Dividend Options at a Glance: OPTION 1: Paid-up addition (PUA) With the help of this dividend option; you can purchase paid-up insurance coverage which maximizes your coverage amount leading to greater long-term value for your

ownership of the plan to him/her.
birth •A nyone related to the child including parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles or legal guardians can open a plan for him/her • I t offers you the advantage of a fairly steady growth.
OPTION 2: Annual premium reduction By using Annual premium reduction option, you can pay your premium partially or fully. If you want to reduce your premium amount at a certain time, such as retirement, this dividend option can effectively address your concern. Generally, dividends increase over the passage of time. This eventually leads to a gradual annual reduction in the amount of premium that you pay. You can thus use the saved money for your other desired endeavours.
•W hile the plan grows in worth, you can use the funds as per your requirement.
OPTION 3: Payable in cash If you want to receive extra funds while keeping your coverage amount intact, you can receive annual dividend payments which can be used as per your needs. At the end of the year, you may receive tax slips.
•W hen your child reaches the age of 18 years, you can hand over the
OPTION 4: Deposit with interest To receive the dividend amount in your savings account (with interest), you can use ‘Deposit with interest’ option. Tax consequences may apply. This wonderful insurance plan can prove a strong financial asset for your child as: • Your child can be covered under the plan as early as 15 days after
•A fter a 10-year or 20-year period, you don’t need to make any further payments as the plan becomes fully funded. • Y our child can use the cash values for any of his financial needs such as education, marriage, down payment on a home, purchasing his dream vehicle, starting a business or, to make his family financially secure.
•A s mentioned above, it can prove a valuable financial asset for your child during retirement. • I t guarantees permanent coverage to your child regardless of any illness that may arise later on. This illustration is based upon a whole life participating insurance policy of $400,000 for a one-year old female child with $4,406.40 annual ($367.20 monthly) premium paid for a period of twenty years. Cash and life insurance values are based on a current dividend scale of 5.75% from a leading Canadian Life Insurance Company. The annual dividend scale is not guaranteed and the values may differ.

Winter skincare and summer skincare regimens are poles apart. The products that work for summer certainly don’t do the trick in winter, and how you use your products too is very different.
Top 10 Winter Skincare Swaps Here are the top swaps you need to introduce in your beauty regimen for the cold season: Utilize lukewarm water When the temperature drops, it’s very tempting to take a hot shower. However, if you care about your skin, you should avoid them. Instead, shower and wash your face with lukewarm water. Hot showers quickly dry your skin, and if you don’t moisturise it right away, your skin can develop cracks and winter eczema.
healthy, glowing winter skin. To avoid stripping your skin’s natural moisture barrier, use cleansers that contain moisturisers. If you have acne or breakouts, use ceramides, hyaluronic acid, hydration serums, and glycerincontaining products to help repair your skin’s moisture barrier. Avoid exfoliating very regularly
In the winter, whether inside or outside, the air is drier. As a result, water evaporates quickly from your body. So, you must keep your skin hydrated. You can also control the humidity in your home by installing a humidifier. This will undoubtedly keep your skin happy.
Exfoliating the skin aids in the removal of dead cells. You must exercise caution during the winter months because your skin’s barrier is already compromised due to the dry and cold weather. Exfoliating your skin once a week is sufficient; this aids in skin regeneration and product absorption. You should also exfoliate depending on your skin type. Exfoliate your skin lightly if you have very dry skin. Once a week is sufficient if you have a combination or oily skin.
Choose skin care products carefully
Moisturize often, specially Your hands
What makes your skin happy in the summer can make it sad in the winter. As a result, you should adjust your skin care products accordingly. Using gentle skin care products is the key to

speedy, making them prone to cracks and itchiness. Follow a moisturizer before you leave home. Take care of your feet Pick out glycerin-primarily based creams and petroleum jelly to moisturize your feet. Additionally, make sure you exfoliate the pores and skin for your feet every so often in order that it could soak up the moisturizer without problems. Maintain a daily skin care routine It doesn’t have to be fancy. Right here’s a very simple and easy skin care recurring that all of us can comply with to preserve their skin happy all through the winter. Cleanse your skin once or twice a day, ideally within the morning and earlier than going to bed. After washing your face in the morning, follow a light day by day moisturizer to lock the moisture in. Use a heavy moisturiser or overnight cream at night. This should be executed on damp pores and skin due to the fact simply-washed pores and skin absorbs moisture better. Wear sunscreen even on cloudy winter days.
Applying sunscreen in the harsh winter weather is just as important as it is in the summer. Don’t be fooled by darker, dreary winter days, either. UV rays from the sun can penetrate clouds and cause damage. Apply a moisturising, broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of 15 or higher to all exposed areas of your body before going outside. Balm for your lips Rather than using lip colours that take away your lips’ natural beauty, keep your pout pretty with moisturising lip balms that come in colour. The presence of serum versus the absence of serum Serums are thinner in consistency and contain hyaluronic acid, making them one of the best winter skincare products. It does not give up easily and adheres to the surface of your skin to provide deep and long-lasting hydration. It is also anti-aging and should be applied before moisturiser. By Karan Bhaskar

Only a few months of the year present as many multicultural celebrations as December. From Christmas to Hanukkah, the last month of the year is a ‘world of holidays’ or popularly called as the ‘holiday season’.
Welcoming the Holiday Season
Y
ou may have heard people, companies or advertisers talk about the ‘holiday season’. If so, you might be wondering exactly what ‘holiday season’ means. Don’t people take vacations all year round? And aren’t there public holidays at different times during the year? The answer to both these questions is yes, but ‘holiday season’ is a North American term that refers to the period from Thanksgiving until the New Year. This covers many of the most important holidays in American culture when most people in the USA and Canada are likely to travel back to their hometown or take time off to spend time with their family. In the UK and in other Englishspeaking countries, you are more likely to hear people talk about the “festive season”, which covers the build up to Christmas until the start of the New Year, or the “Christmas holidays”, which is the week lasting from Christmas Eve to New Year’s Day. Many businesses in the UK close completely during this time and employees take the whole time off as holiday. So, let’s look at which holidays take place during the ‘holiday

season’. Hanukkah Hanukkah (also called the Festival of Lights) is an important Jewish holiday that lasts for eight days and nights. The exact start date changes each year, but it always falls in November or December. In the 2nd Century BC, the Jewish people fought back against the Seleucid Empire that had taken over much of the Middle East and made Judaism illegal. Hanukkah is all about the moment that the Jewish fighters took back the Holy Temple in Jerusalem and were able to practise their religion again. Today, Jews all

communiy. Christmas Christmas in Canada is celebrated in the same way as it is in other Western countries. As it is across the globe, December 25th is the official holiday in Canada, with many Canadians also taking time off on the afternoon of the 24th (Christmas Eve) as well as Boxing Day, wic is celebrated on the very next day. Canada is a multicultural country, so many other holiday traditions aside from Christian ones are observed in December and throughout the year. Hanukkah celebrations are widespread, especially in Toronto and Montreal where there are large Jewish populations. On Christmas Day, pretty much everything in the way of retail and services is closed, except for the occasional convenience store. If you’re looking for a bar or restaurant for a good holiday meal, a hotel is a good bet. In Christianity, this is the day that Jesus Christ was born, and it is the most popular Christian holiday in the Western world. In the Bible, wise men brought special gifts to the baby Jesus and traditionally, a figure called Father Christmas / Santa Claus / St. Nicholas (depending on which country you are in) is thought to bring presents to children around the world on Christmas Eve. Today, many people celebrate the festival by having a big meal with their family and giving presents to each other. This is celebrated by most people in Western countries, even if they are not Christian or religious.
is the last chance to get Christmas shopping done, with most stores staying open until 5 or 6 p.m. and lots of people leaving work for the day by noon or shortly thereafter. Canadian traditions include decorating a Christmas tree and exchanging gifts. On Christmas Day a special meal is prepared often including roast turkey, seasonal vegetables, mashed potatoes, and gravy. Traditional favourite Christmas desserts reminiscent of England include Christmas plum puddings and mince meat tarts. Christmas crackers and fireworks are popular favourites. A rich fruit Christmas Cake is also a traditional Christmas sweet.
Boxing Day On December 26th, Canadians shake off their food comas and hit the malls for Boxing Day, the biggest shopping day of the year, where stores slash prices to attract holiday shoppers. Boxing Day takes place on December 26. Only celebrated in a few countries, the holiday originated in the United Kingdom during the Middle Ages. It was the day when the alms box, collection boxes for the poor often kept in churches, were opened and their content distributed, a tradition that still happens in some areas. It was also the day servants were traditionally given the day off to
Boxing Day has now become a public holiday in the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, among other countries. In England, soccer matches, and horse races often take place on Boxing Day. The Irish people refer to the holiday as St. Stephen’s Day, and they have their own tradition called hunting the wren, in which boys fasten a fake wren to a pole and parade it through town. The Bahamas celebrate Boxing Day with a street parade and festival called Junkanoo. New Year’s Eve This is the last night of the old year and the beginning of the new one! Many people have big parties with friends or family, at home or at bars and clubs. Everyone stops to count down to the start of the new year and it is a tradition at several places to drink champagne and kiss people around you at midnight. Many people also make New Year’s Resolutions, which are a list of things that they will try to do or stop doing in the coming year. For example, start going to the gym, or stop smoking. How to choose a winter perfume
Winter is coming! Are you prepared to welcome the season of festivities with the right kind of fragrances?
I
sandalwood, amber & oudh form a great combination for the winter months. While oudh is a recent craze across the world, combining it with a floral note like rose can help you create an uplifting & warm persona. Such perfumes are great during the day time of those colder months.
t is essential to choose the right perfume for the right occasion and winter months demand extra attention to make sure your personality gets the attention it needs. Our body heat plays a very important role in the projection of the perfume we wear. It helps the perfume to project farther and evaporate faster. Perfumes with light floral, citrus or aquatic notes are more volatile and tend to get muted during the winter season.
Oriental Perfumes: Oriental perfumes are considered to be the strongest of all. These are generally a combination of deep & heavy notes like oudh, oakmoss, tonka beans & patchouli and sweeter and refreshing fine scents like Vanilla, amber, musk, and oriental resins like frankincense and myrrh. These are sensuous blends and sometimes consist of spicy notes as well like Pink pepper and cinnamon. These fragrances are great for evening wear of corporate events.
An ideal perfume for the winters should be warmer, deeper and more concentrated for the fragrance to last longer and spread further. Thus, even if the body temperature is lower, the fragrance will still be able to make an impact or leave you feeling fresh for a longer period of time. Let’s talk about the different kind of perfumes we can use during the winter months. Woody Perfumes: Perfumes majorly comprising of woody notes are warmer, deeper and give a cosy woods like feeling. They are ideal for colder months and evenings. They generally comprise of woody & earthy notes like, patchouli, sandalwood and cedarwood. The deep woody perfumes do great with sweet notes like amber, vanilla & cinnamon.

Some other popular notes for the winter months are Tuberose & Neroli for florals, Oakmoss, Leather, Tobacco for woody notes, clove buds, star anise and cinnamon for those sensuous spicy touches. The thin line between
depression and feeling depressed
These days everywhere you look, you spot people talking about things not going right or how they feel stressed and “depressed”. Depression has hit society in the worst way ever - right from adults to kids being impacted by it at different intensities. Research shows that 1 in every 5 people goes through depression or mental health issues in any given year.
B
efore we understand what depression is, let’s clarify at the outset what it isn’t. Depression is not feeling sad or feeling depressed momentarily. Unknowingly, we stereotypically portray depression as sadness with the extensive usage of the word. Dr. Chandni Tugnait, a psychotherapist, life and business coach, and founder-director of Gateway of Healing says, depression is not being unhappy; it is not anger, fear or loneliness - it is none of these individually and yet it is all of these and much more. Depression is being numb. It is nothingness. It is exhausting. It takes away all motivation and leaves a feeling of hopelessness. There is a lack of energy - it’s more like a void where nothing grows or changes, where time does not exist, where there is nothing and no one. Of course, it is difficult for the person trying to cope with it as well as for the people around them. Sometimes depression is chronic and evident but a lot of times one isn’t aware of it and sometimes one is even able to camouflage it in the garb of routine & forced positivity - this last type, by the way, is the worst as sometimes we lose them to suicide - just like that - no warning, no sign, as per Dr. Tugnait. The line between clinical depression and feeling depressed is quite fragile and often we find inappropriate self-diagnosis in this regard. Clinical depression is accompanied by a feeling of impending doom without any reason, every day, for over two weeks continuously along with fatigue, loss of interest, insomnia, etc. However, one may feel depressed for a while due to a difficult event like losing a job/
16
DECEMBER 2021
loved one, etc. and may confuse it for depression and begin to pop pills. It’s important to be aware of the difference - the ability to get up and fight back against these feelings, instead of accepting them or thinking that they will simply go away on their own or never go away. The deeper the roots of depression, the more time it takes for a person to heal. It keeps a person in the loop of being low and makes them self-damaging. The symptoms could range from crying all day to being unable to get up from the bed to work, bathe, or even eat. Then there are the happy and high functioning depressed people who have smiling depression. A high functioning depressed person appears energetic, carefree, and cheery on the outside, most of the time and people close to them never get to know that on the inside they are being sucked into a black hole. Strangely, they would go out of their way to keep others happy, masking their own sadness. When alone, they cry, contemplate suicide, and feel exhausted from all the pretending. Why do they pretend? Well, it’s
funny that each time we ask someone, “How are you?”, we are looking at “I am fine, thank you” as the response because if someone starts sharing how they really are, we are quick to tell them not to sulk or look at the bright side. Sharing and sulking are two different things. The fear of being judged is deeply ingrained in our beings and hence it seems like a better proposition to endure the depression in silence than to voice it out. Contrary to what most people feel, you can’t lose depression simply by ‘looking at the bright side’. You may be able to camouflage your feelings to save others from getting bothered (or to save yourself from the guilt of it all) but this is plain masking and not copying or healing. People suffering from depression can’t “cheer up” and that adds to more frustration. With every depressed person (and even those suffering from anxiety or other mental health issues) there is a constant ‘need’ to be themselves or be how they were earlier or be how their
friends and family would like them to be. This chase to “be that person” is precisely why most people, despite all the efforts and therapy, are unable to snap out of it. Dr. Tugnait lists some ways to deal with depression -
ACCEPTANCE - Accept self and others (with or without depression) without asking for a change. This is the first step in healing. You can’t change something if you resist it as the resistance keeps the energy flowing in that same direction that you wish to alter. Haven’t you fought enough already? Let’s change the dynamics and accept it, to release it. COMPASSION - Choose compassion. Choose the wholeness of being instead of viewing yourself as someone who needs ‘fixing’. ROUTINE - Fix a morning routine to take time to feel gratitude, meditate, read a few pages of a book while sipping tea, exercise, write a journal, sleep for 7-8 hours daily and take a cold shower. SEEK SUPPORT - Ask for help and seek professional support from a therapist in case the situation is extreme despite the self-help, positive lifestyles changes and support from family and friends. There’s no shame in seeking help to be healthy! Everyone should be more accepting of mental health issues without any judgments. Take the leap of faith when you feel ready. Until then, just breathe! You are doing fine. Depression is real but so is hope and recovery. Source: IANS

Ltd., the parent company to skin care brand Skinella shares her skincare guide for all skin types. Cleansing: Cleansing your skin is the first step for any skincare routine, as it will remove any makeup, dirt, excess oils, and build-up on your skin. Double cleansing has become quite popular recently, where you use an oil-based cleanser to break down any makeup on your skin followed by foam or gel cleanser to remove everything. Those with dry skin should try not to go overboard as it can rip your skin of natural oils when using a hard cleanser. Toning: Toner helps achieve the skin’s pH balance. You can either spritz a mild toner on your face or take a small amount on a cotton pad and swipe it all over the face. A good toner tightens pores over regular use and lends an enviable glow to your skin. Exfoliation: Using an exfoliator once or twice a week will help remove dead skin cells and keep your skin looking brighter. If you have sensitive skin, a very gentle exfoliation such as a lower percentage glycolic acid would be best suited. However, don’t scrub your skin too hard or too often with an exfoliator as this can damage your skin.

Moisturising : The job of the moisturiser is to aid in hydrating and softening the skin. More specifically, finding the right formula is key here. It must nourish and restore your skin efficiently without leaving it feeling greasy or heavy. SPF: We can’t stress enough how important this step is, because SPF is the single most important treatment for your skin with major benefits, and it’s not just for the summer months. The sooner you start using sunscreen, the better your skin will look and feel in the long run. The UVA and UVB rays of the sun result in ageing, fine lines, wrinkles, dark spots, and of course, skin cancer, which is why wearing sunscreen must be an indispensable part of skincare. Now that we’ve covered the daily skincare routine, you may be wondering what products to add to your arsenal. This is perhaps the most important part. Although advanced digital technologies and marketing tools are working in the background to influence your purchase decisions, a user must be careful about the kinds of ingredients that go inside these
skincare products. This is where you need to be 100 percent sure that the products you choose have no harsh chemicals and contain all-natural ingredients or the power of superfoods. This means choosing skincare products the same way you will choose your platter - healthy, colourful, and nutritious. Instead of just consuming superfoods such as avocado, kale, oats, honey, goji berries, and more, which are packed with antioxidants, why not try applying them in the form of skincare? Using such products can protect your skin from the damage caused by free radicals. These radicals cause collagen breakdown, which leads to dull, saggy skin, wrinkles, and skin inflammation - which is one of the main reasons for skin sensitivity and pigmentation issues. So, give your skin the food that it needs to look its best. Here are a few tips to help you further your skincare routine via some lifestyle
changes: Eat fresh fruits and veggies: Fruit and vegetables contain powerful antioxidants that help to protect skin from the cellular damage caused by free radicals, smoking, pollution, and sunlight. These pollutants can cause wrinkling and age spots. To help prevent skin damage, eat a rainbow of colourful fruits and vegetables, and aim for at least five portions a day. Drink plenty of water: Skin needs moisture to stay flexible. Even mild dehydration will cause your skin to look dry, tired, and slightly grey. You should drink six to eight glasses of water a day. Even if you’re working from home, keep a bottle of water on your desk to remind you to drink. Don’t forget that some fruits and vegetables, such as watermelon, and cucumber, also contribute fluids - the added benefit is that the minerals they contain will increase the rate you hydrate your body and skin. Exercise: By getting the heart rate up and improving blood circulation, exercising can help to deliver oxygen and nutrients to the skin - a big antiageing secret. It keeps your skin healthy and promotes the production of collagen and new skin cells to help you with glowing skin. While you follow this daily routine, it is also equally important to eat well. It’s worth considering the possibility that alkaline foods like fruits, vegetables, raw nuts, and soy do wonders for your skin by providing your body with nutrients that maintain the pH level of your blood. 6 ways to style a scarf T he most versatile accessory, scarves have been in style for over millennia. There are limitless ways to wear a scarf, which makes it a classic piece of fashion.
“Legend has it Grace Kelly wore a silk scarf as a sling for her arm when she hurt herself in a yacht accident,” tells Vatsala Holani, co-founder of Carte Blanche, an Indian design studio specializing in silk accessories. “It’s an example of how a beautiful and enduring wrap is always the most functional piece in the modern wardrobe.” We round up six unusual ways to style a scarf that will power up your accessory game: * BAG IT UP: Need a new bag without the investment? Tie the 4 corners of your square into knots, then tie each corner to its opposite end, to make a quick tote for yourself. * HAIRSTYLE SAVIOUR: Nothing saves a bad hair day faster than a silk scarf. Whether as a ponytail tie, hairband or knotted through your buns and braids, the silk will keep your hair frizz-free, while

making a style statement. * FLIRTY SKIRTY: Whether it’s a beach wrap or an evening skirt, scarves can create the look. A sarong tuck is perfect for resort wear while tying the corners of your scarf at the waist at the front and then the back, will create the perfect tulip shape for an outing. * SUMMERY BLOUSE: “There are
multiple ways to wear scarves as tops, but our favourite is the simple halter neck. It just screams summer,” explains Vatsala. Scarf tops have been a favourite look on the runways and beaches this season, and they are here to stay. * BELTING IT OUT: Cinching your waist with a scarf tied as a belt can instantly amp up the style quotient of a plain outfit. Denim, cotton dresses
and evening wear can all benefit from the extra spice of print and glamour that a scarf exudes. * SLEEK WRAP: A demure shoulder wrap may still be the chicest way to accessorize slip dresses and strapless blouses. For winter, ditch chunky mufflers and cardigans, and slide into a slinky little silk scarf instead. By N. Lothungbeni Humtsoe

Fun Facts on Daily Dog Behaviour continued In last month’s article, we discussed a few fun facts on daily dog behavior that you may notice regularly with your furry companion. These behaviours included the explanations of why your dog cocks his head to one side during high pitched sounds; why and when they sneeze; why they circle in an area before resting; and what it means for them to relieve themselves near their humans. In this month’s article, we will continue to discuss more common behaviors seen in canines. You may notice that your puppy or adult dog show moments of feeling extremely hyper and not being able to catch their breath while aimlessly running around. These moments are sometimes referred to as ‘Zoomies’. These bursts of excitement are only exhibited in happy and healthy canines. In scientific terms, Zoomies are known as ‘FRAPS’, which stand for ‘Frenetic Random Activity Periods’. These periods of energy can be due to the need for relieving stress, build up energy or trying to handle excitement and play. Another quirky behaviour seen is when dogs will take their toys, treats or food offered to them and carry
them to another area or their bed to indulge in these items separately, away from others. This behaviour is very interesting in that it can hold a meaning of a few different reasons behind this action. One reason is
that they simply do not like metal bowls in which their food or treats are being given and wish to eat the offerings out of it. You may notice this especially when your dog refuses to eat his food in his steel bowl, but instead prefers to eat it on the floor or hand-fed. Another simple reason is that your dog possibly may not enjoy eating his food alone. This can be seen if your dog brings his food or treats near to where you are eating already. A gesture to share a meal with you and to not feel lonely. Last, but not least, a third possible reason is that your dog wishes to protect or hide his food. This is a sign of being protective or territorial. If you feel that your dog may be displaying such signs, then it is important to consult your local veterinarian for tips on improving this unwanted behavior. You may notice that your dog often comes up to you and leans against your leg while you are standing or sitting. This action is a completely harmless and devoted sign of love towards their owner. This expression of affection is a way of them trying to get as close as possible as they can to you. It is a way for them to ask for affection in return during the moment. Since dogs are aware that they cannot physically hug you, leaning against you is the closest way they can achieve of giving a hug in their terms. You may notice your dog scooting their rear end against the grass, carpet, floor or bedding at times. This action is one that indicates that veterinarian consult might be needed as soon as you notice this behavior.
24
DECEMBER 2021
This indicates that there may be an issue involving the anal sacs of the dog. These glands can become clogged or injured due to many different reasons, which then lead to the action of scooting against a hard surface. A consultation with your veterinarian at this point is highly recommended, since this issue can be caused by an underlying factor of anal gland expression needed, parasites or allergies.

5 manscaping tips every man should know T
here is no other word in the world of men’s grooming other than manscaping that conjures such varied emotions. While thoughts on the topic range wildly, you may still be left wondering, “what exactly is manscaping?” To put it plainly, manscaping is a routine where men remove body hair. The ways of manscaping, too, are changing with time. A few years ago, waxing your chest hair was an unheard trend, but modern men are going for a more natural look with neatly trimmed hair. To help build your routine, Suraj Chaudhari, Co-founder and CEO of Zlade shares 5 vital manscaping tips, techniques, and correct ideas on men’s body hair removal.
A smooth chest process One of the most hotly contested areas where a man could remove body hair is his chest. Earlier in the ‘90s, it was in fashion for a man’s chest to be all hairy and not at all trimmed. But as time ascended, the masculine regime for body care transitioned and gave birth to having a clean Schwarzenegger-like chest to flex all day. For a seamless cutfree shave of your chest, it is advised to apply a pre-shaving oil or solution before going for the hair removal spree. To keep your chest all-time groomed, you need to practice it once a month, pick a body trimmer that is designed for body trimming and don’t settle for your ordinary beard trimmer which is designed for facial hair. For convenience, do it in front of a mirror and swiftly trim your chest, lower neck, shoulders and naval region. As a matter of fact, chest manscaping is not that chaotic due to its plain surface and easy accessibility to that area.
Using a dedicated blade Men can be way too careless than they seem when it comes to manscaping. Some men think of using separate blades as wastage and over-preparation, but they can’t be more wrong. It is necessary to use a different blade for specific parts of the body. Always keep a separate razor, especially down there since it’s a sensitive area, and you probably don’t want anything to go wrong. Also, make sure that your razors are always clean of any dry dust or dirt. Using razors seems obvious but it is time-consuming and most of the time you will get cut with the razor because even the razors are designed for removing facial hair.
Do it when the water is running Friction should be regulated while cleaning the delicate parts of your body. Prefer to conduct manscaping under a shower or after you have taken your bath. This will help in giving throughout moisturization and get the work done www.entertainmentmagazine.ca
without much ruckus. Also, keep your body wet or moisturized while removing hair to control the itchiness caused by minute hair follicles that stick to your skin.
neat. So, take the initiative and tune into the best manscaping regimen by following the aforementioned
quality tips. Source: IANS
The neck comes after the beard Often, the hair on the back of your neck grows faster than you would like, and a haircut with a barber just isn’t worth your time or money. Neck hair can ruin the best hairstyles by making your hairline look messy and unkempt. Fortunately, there are ways to shave the back of your neck by yourself at home. With the right hair-cutting tools, you can trim and clean up the neckline to save your next visit to the barbershop. All that you’ll require is a quality neck hair trimmer, a handheld mirror, and a good razor, to shape, line up, and cut a clean neckline for a well-groomed look.
Aftershave is the endgame You probably shave or trim your beard once every couple of days, depending on how fast it grows back and at what length you like to keep it. There’s a good chance you don’t use aftershave for most of these times unless your beard involves a visit to the salon. But avoiding aftershave is a bad skincare move. Shaving leaves your skin vulnerable to irritation and infections, which can be easily tackled with a few drops of aftershave.
Is grooming done? Now enjoy the essence Manscaping is an art of this century that has upscaled the presentability of men and made them look polished and

We’re all for snow days and cuddling up with loved ones by the fire, but the month of December is also prime time for traveling— mainly to see how the rest of the world celebrates Christmas.
C
hristmas is one of the biggest festivals celebrated across the globe by millions of people with great fervor. Some of the cities across the world are worth a visit any time of year, sure, but they seem to be exceptionally magical during the holiday season. Whether they’re European classics with storybook Christmas markets, Asian cities where you can see twinkling lights from a rooftop pool, or ski paradises in the U.S., some celebrations are worth the price of a plane ticket. And let’s face it: You haven’t really seen Christmas lights until you’ve seen 26 million lights all at once (we’re looking at you, Colombia). From Cologne to Cape Town, here are the best places to spend Christmas this year. Cape Town, South Africa Why we go: If you’re looking to escape winter this Christmas, you can’t do much better than Cape Town—it’s summer in the Southern Hemisphere, after all. You can even visit one (or several) of the South African city’s holiday

DECEMBER 2021
Let’s travel aroun world for Christm celebrations markets without having to wear a coat and scarf. Quebec City, Canada Why we go: Quebec City is one of the oldest cities in North America, and its colonial French architecture gives it an unmistakably European feel. The cobbled streets of the Old Town are packed with quaint shops and delicious bistros, all merrily decorated for the holidays. This one thing will really get you in the spirit: The toboggan run at Château Frontenac (open from mid-December to March), one of the city’s oldest traditions—and quite the thrill. Zoom down icy tracks overlooking the city on a wooden sled reaching speeds of up to 45 miles per hour. Rovaniemi, Finland Why we go: Hugging the Arctic Circle, Finland’s Lapland region is the birthplace and home of Santa Claus. In the city of Rovaniemi, Santa Claus Village amusement park and resort creates an unforgettable Christmas experience for children with snowcovered cottages, reindeer rides, and a friendly staff dressed as elves who refuse to break character. Sydney, Australia Why we go: You haven’t seen Christmas lights until you’ve seen Sydney’s Christmas lights. Plus, the holiday season lasts an entire month here (take that, 12 days of Christmas) with “Sydney Christmas,” an aptly-named festival taking place from November 24 through December 25. The
citywide celebration kicks off with a tree lighting at Martin Place, and continues with Christmas markets and nightly concerts. Prague, Czech Republic Why we go: The Christmas markets in Prague are some of the best in the world and run a full month, with locals and travelers passing through for a dose of mulled wine, sticky pastries, and roasted ham. The main markets take place in the Old Town and Wenceslas squares, just five minutes apart by foot—
and set to the backdrop of some of the prettiest Gothic architecture you’ll ever see. Tokyo, Japan Why we go: The city turns the voltage up each year with its winter illuminations, with different districts competing to create some truly sensational displays. And don’t worry if you can’t get there before December 25—the winter illuminations have become so popular that most remain up until February.

Strings of glinting Christmas bulbs illuminate the city during its very long nights; and on the clearest evenings, the Northern Lights can be seen from the city’s darker streets. Rome, Italy Why we go: The streets around town will be festively alight, sure, but the home to the seat of Catholicism is an excellent option for folks seeking a more sacrosanct Christmas experience.
Bruges, Belgium Why we go: Europe’s bestpreserved medieval city oozes charm year-round but is especially charming during the holidays.
It’s hard to imagine a place more magical as you wander the cobblestone streets, admire the shimmering lights, and warm up with mugs of Belgian hot chocolate

How to win an argument without losing the relationship “Don’t raise your voice, improve your argument.” -Desmond Tutu
A
lthough winning an argument is not an easy task and it consumes one’s tremendous amount of energy and time. However, an argument can certainly be taken into our favour when addressed using specific strategies. As a result of this, relationships can be saved as well. First of all, it is as essential to have evidence in favour of our argument as it is to have contrary evidence against your partner’s argument. Along with addressing these pieces of evidence, we need to make sure that we have outlined all the pros for our argument and cons for their argument. This will help our partner weigh the negative and positive outcomes of each argument and encourage them in the direction that has the most benefits and least risks, which we aim to be our argument side. It is crucial to make sure that when we use this strategy, we have to be very calm and patient with our partner, rather than loud and hottempered. The more positive and understanding the environment
surrounding the couple, the more likely your opposite partner will be able to view things from your perspective and will likely agree with your opinion. Second, while arguing, it is essential to respect your partner by giving them time to process the thoughts that you have just presented to them. For example, if you are rushing and constantly talking one after another, they
will certainly feel overweight and targeted. This will make the entire situation worse. Thirdly, it is essential to converse with your partner in a manner and attitude that you have always been doing in a daily routine. Otherwise, if you suddenly start calling out their names due to anger, and you have previously never done that, it might make them feel as if they were talking
to a stranger and will be less likely to comply with your thoughts. In the future, if you realize you are mistaken in the middle of an argument, acknowledge your mistake without wasting time. In future arguments or conversations, your companion will take you more seriously. It is also a respectable thing to do, and they will appreciate your humble gesture. They will respect you and may even support your side if you persuade them. Instead of allowing your emotions to cloud your judgment and compel you to create the worst scene, please take a moment to assess whether it is the right time and place to have a volcano meltdown. Tuning to the present moment by focusing on your senses can be a great strategy. The senses can contribute to a person’s sense of being rooted. When you are not standing, even concentrating on your toes might help you centre yourself. However, the best and most universally accepted strategy would be to wait until you are both alone before having the conversation. Overall, by keeping these strategies in mind, one can undoubtedly win an argument without losing the relationship By-Surbhi Bassi

Sujoy Ghosh on why Abhishek Bachchan was cast as ‘Bob Biswas’
F
but Diya is directing the film and this is the choice she made. She has her vision to the film. Our idea is to create a new film, in which the world of Bob is different from what we have seen in ‘Kahaani’.”
rom the time the trailer of ‘Bob Biswas’ dropped, while the fans are excited to watch Abhishek Bachchan as a contract killer, there is a different kind of curiosity around the film over its casting.
The film is written by Sujoy, and directed by Diya Annapurna Ghosh This is the first time the fans will get to see Abhishek in a never-seenbefore avatar in which his look is almost unrecognisable as a semibald and overweight middle-aged man.
The film is a spin-off to the earlier ‘Kahaani’ released in 2012, in which Bob’s character was portrayed by Saswata Chatterjee. Despite being a Bengali actor without having any presence in Hindi film before, the character and the performance of Saswata were so appreciated by the audience nationwide, it was only natural to expect him to see as ‘Bob Biswas’, as the face of the character. However, the news of Abhishek will be playing the title role of ‘Bob Biswas’ surfaced in 2019. Talking about why Abhishek is cast, writer Sujoy Ghosh told IANS: “It was a very conscious decision of casting a new actor to play Bob Biswas because I wanted to move away from ‘Kahaani’, this is not that film. The world of this film is different. This is a new film, which has its own standing.
perspective to the story. That is in fact, one of the reasons why I did not direct the film. In the earlier film, when the introduction of Bob happened (referring to ‘Kahaani’) he only had a presence of eight minutes. Now, we have a full story on him.” In the past, there were many such legendary characters in which the same actor played the character in different films.
“Through this film, we have attempted to create a new world of Bob Biswas which has a fresh new
For example, Goopi and Bagha are two such fictional Bengali characters created by Upendrakishore Ray
Chowdhury. Later iconic filmmaker Satyajit Ray made three films based on those two characters. They were played by Bengali actors Tapen Chatterjee and Rabi Ghosh, respectively. Asked about why then he chose not to follow the same path as that of Ray, Sujoy explained, “I am saying it is not impossible to recreate the world of Bob Biswas where Saswata who played Bob earlier can be cast. In fact, if I was helming the film, Saswata would have been a choice,
Sharing his experience of working with Abhishek, Sujoy said, “I think Diya has done a great job of convincing him to become the character, written on paper. Abhishek put on weight, went all out in a complete lack of vanity to become the Bob we have seen in the trailer or will watch in the film for that matter. What was very good about Abhishek is his malleability... when I saw him in his final look, I got my Bob exactly the way I visualised so as a writer, I am very happy.” Produced by Red Chillies Entertainment, ‘Bob Biswas’ also features Chitrangada Singh, Paran Bandopadhyay, and Tina Desai, among others. I was listening to Sam attentively with my head down. Tears began falling from my eyes on the table. Sam paused and offered me a tissue paper to clean my eyes. After cleaning my eyes, I looked at Sam’s face. Truthfulness was writ large on his face. I took the last sip of my coffee.

I picked up Sam’s card, put it in my purse. I came home with Nancy. I turned pretty gloomy. I began always living in my past. The other day, Nancy was playing with Vismad and making a noise. To protect the train of my sad thoughts, I scolded Nancy rudely.
“Here is my company’s new card. Thank you so much for giving me so much time, Sonia.”, Sam said, caressing Nancy’s head with his hand lovingly. He bade me good-bye respectfully with his folded hands and then left. My heart burst out crying.
“Didi, what’s wrong with you? Why are you so rude to Nancy? I have been noticing for a couple of days that you are very upset. Are you alright?”, Meenu asked me a bit angrily. I realized my mistake. I felt sorry for that and embraced Nancy lovingly.

Meenu couldn’t believe what I had said. “Does anyone else know about Baljit’s this condition, didi?”, Meenu asked me “I never told it to even our mom. But I had to tell Baljit’s mom when she asked me to have a baby from Baljit to bring him to Canada. She knew nothing about Baljit before that.”, I replied. Meenu held her head in shock and began contemplating the situation.

Steve Burton fired from ‘General Hospital’ for ‘no vax’ stance
‘General Hospital’ star Steve Burton has confirmed on Instagram the rumours that he was fired from the long-running soap opera because he would not get vaccinated against Covid-19. “I wanted you to hear it from me personally.” he said, reports variety.com. He added: “Unfortunately, ‘General Hospital’ has let me go because of the vaccine mandate. I did apply for my medical and religious exemptions, and both of those were denied. Which, you know, hurts. But this is also about personal freedom to me.” Burton then went on to express gratitude to the show, where he’s played Jason Morgan on and off since 1991. He said: “Maybe one day if these mandates are lifted, I can return and finish my career as Jason Morgan. That would be an honor.”

On Monday, Variety reported that it appeared that Burton might have been fired from the show because of this issue. The vaccine mandate for Zone A at ‘General Hospital’, which comprises those present on set when the actors aren’t wearing masks, and the actors themselves went into effect on November 1. Actor Ingo Rademacher, whose Instagram is full of vaccine misinformation and propaganda, loudly refused to comply with the vaccine mandate.
After Burton’s post on Instagram, the channel confirmed that his departure was because of his noncompliance with the show’s vaccine mandate. Burton’s ouster had been rumoured in the ‘General Hospital’ fandom for weeks. He had tested positive for Covid in mid-August, saying he’d been “exposed at work”. During that time, the infighting at the show about Covid protocols spilled into the public, and resulted in the vaccine mandate. Of the four daytime dramas remaining on the networks, ‘General Hospital’, which is owned by ABC, is the only one that has instituted a vaccine mandate. ‘Days of Our Lives’, and ‘The Young and the Restless’ and ‘The Bold and the Beautiful’ continue to rely on testing, social distancing and other CDC-recommended guidelines for their on-set protocols. Recasting popular characters on soap operas and dead characters coming back to life are endemic to the genre. In the past, the Jason character has been played by other actors, as Burton has pursued other projects. On Friday’s episode of ‘General Hospital’, a tunnel collapsed on Jason, which gave even more fuel to fans’ theories that Burton had been fired. Source: IANS

5 Acts of kindness to adopt when dating online Putting yourself out there can be nervewracking and sometimes all you need is an act of kindness and a compassionate gesture for a comfortable dating experience.
A
ccording to a recent survey by Bumble in India, emotional connection (60 per cent) and kindness (55 per cent) top the charts, followed by empathy (32 per cent), as priorities when it comes to dating someone or choosing a potential partner, post the second wave of the pandemic. Bumble’s relationship expert Shahzeen Shivdasani shares tips on the acts of kindness one should adopt when getting to know someone online:
Respect boundaries: Be patient with people you are connecting with as you get to know them better. If someone has not responded to you, give them time and space to connect with you. They may have other priorities to attend to and this doesn’t immediately translate to them not being interested. Give them the space to respond in their own time and get to know you when they can give you their full attention. Respecting someone’s boundaries is vital. Make them feel safe: One of the most important acts of kindness you can do is make your connection or partner feel safe. Let them know that they can be themselves around you. If they’re having a moment of weakness, try not to judge them.
38
DECEMBER 2021
Express gratitude: Expressing gratitude when in a relationship or while getting to know someone, goes a long way. Incorporate small gestures like writing a thoughtful note or just a simple ‘thank you’ after that first date. Being kind is an attractive trait! No ghosting: If you have been getting to know someone on a dating app and decide not to know them further, be kind and straightforward about it let them know you are not interested in taking things further. Perhaps you might just want to still be friends. Just disappearing and not communicating can hurt and demotivate others. Be a good listener: If someone is sharing something with you, be empathetic. You can do that by not dismissing the other person. Communication is a two-way street, and relationships only grow when you both feel heard, seen and understood. Dating can feel difficult, it is difficult for some to put themselves out there. As we enter 2022, let’s remember to be kind and treat others the way you want to be treated. Be kind

With the onset of the festivities, comes various kind of expenditures. While many are for personal consumption, most households also plan key investments during these times be it in real estate, gold or any other form of financial value.
How to be a savvy spender during the festive season
T
herefore, balancing between ‘wants’ and ‘necessities’ can be a fine line to walk especially if you don’t plan finances well in advance. To ensure you loosen the purse strings in the right way, follow these simple tips to ease spending and maximize savings. Evaluate expenses Having a ‘special’ budget allocated for the festive season can help you estimate your spending threshold. While it is important to save for gifting, shopping and other kind of expenses incurred, ensure an additional amount is kept aside for emergency spends including medical/health or unforeseen incidents such as an accident etc. Always exercise discretion while spending - not everything is a necessary purchase, therefore prioritize key requirements over secondary items in your list. This will also lead to lesser financial challenges and stress! Invest in a financial protection tool

This is a good time to consider investing in a term insurance plan. Term insurance is a sound investment if you have dependents and are the sole breadwinner of the family. It is also useful if you have liabilities such as a home loan, a car loan or other debts. Term plans act as a safety net for your family and ensure that they remain financially independent and continue to live the lifestyle
you provided for them, even in your absence. Some term insurance plans offer monthly payouts to the nominee (for a certain number of years), along with the lump sum amount (sum assured) that can provide a regular income. Secure long-term future Make it a point to expand investments into a variety of financial tools to grow your corpus and create a second stream of income. For instance, ULIPs (Unit Linked Insurance Plan) are life insurance cum investment options, which provide you with an opportunity to invest in different funds with a chance of multiplying your wealth with a protection cover. ULIP helps accumulate the desired amount within a specific period basis market return. It is suitable for both salaried and self-employed individuals with dependents who seek an investment plan that offers the combined benefit of wealth creation and life insurance under a single policy. You can invest to secure your retirement, or plan your children’s higher education, or any other financial goals
Define goals and pay yourself first Setting financial goals is a lifelong exercise and it’s important you evaluate your current financial portfolio and standing. The wise old dictum of ‘not putting all your eggs in the same basket’ should be applied here. Start early and ‘pay yourself first’ through systematic monthly savings and make changes as per your requirements - be it your child’s education, marriage or any other milestone, money will be needed for everything. Importantly, make sure to clear your all your dues - credit card, pending loans etc so that you are not caught off guard later. The one key lesson that we all have imbibed through the pandemic is to be always financially prepared. As per a survey launched earlier this year, 69 per cent of urban Indians were compelled to be more proactive about financial planning among other aspects. To bridge the gap between our earning and spending, it is important that we equip ourselves with the right knowledge and financial tools for a safe and secured tomorrow. By V. Viswanand

For brides-to-be, there is no substitute to a consistent skincare routine and a well planned prebridal appointment with a dermatologist. If you haven’t done so until the last moment, these quick remedies will help you look your best on your big day.
Beauty hacks for brides-to-be Remove makeup before bed Double cleanse your face by using micellar water followed by a mild face wash to remove makeup completely before you sleep. If you are too tired by the end of the da (especially after one too many celebratory cocktails), keep alcohol-free makeup remover wipes at your bedside for a quick cleanse.
Chapped lips fix For instantly soft and lipstick-ready lips, mix sugar, coconut oil and honey and apply over lips. Leave on for 10 minutes and gently exfoliate lips with a clean toothbrush.
De-puff eyes To
an extra pillow under the head when sleeping. This will prevent fluid pooling under the eyes. To temporarily reduce undereye puffiness, place chilled (brewed) green tea bags over closed eyes for 10mins.
Acne fix Waking up with a pesky zit is every bride’s worst nightmare. Cleanse your face every night with a salicylic acid based face wash and exfoliate gently once a week. If you do breakout, resist the urge to pick at it. Instead, use acne patches with hydrocolloid to speed up healing and conceal acne under the wedding makeup.
Keep the frizz away A tried and tested home remedy for shiny, frizz- free hair is to mix apple cider vinegar, yogurt, honey and aloe vera. Use this as a hair mask for 30-minutes and rinse off with a mild shampoo for glossy strands. (Patch test for possible allergies)

all you need to know about COLIC Dr. Pargat Singh Bhurji
C
MD,FRCP ( C ) Consultant Pediatrician Surrery BC
olic is frequent, prolonged and intense crying or fussiness in a healthy infant. Colic can be particularly frustrating for parents because the baby’s distress occurs for no apparent reason and no amount of consoling seems to bring any relief. These episodes often occur in the evening, when parents themselves are often tired Episodes of colic usually peak when an infant is about 6 weeks old and decline significantly after 3 to 4 months of age. While the excessive crying will resolve with time, managing colic adds significant stress to caring for your newborn child. Symptoms Fussing and crying are normal for infants, especially during the first three months. And the range for what is normal crying is difficult to pin down. In general, colic is defined as crying for three or more hours a day, three or more days a week, for three or more weeks. Features of colic may include the following: 4 Intense crying that may seem more like screaming or an expression of pain 4 Crying for no apparent reason, unlike crying to express hunger or the need for a diaper change 4 Extreme fussiness even after crying has diminished 4 Predictable timing, with episodes often occurring in the evening 4 Facial discoloring, such as reddening of the face or paler skin around the mouth 4 Bodily tension, such as pulled up or stiffened legs, stiffened arms, clenched fists, arched back, or tense abdomen 4 Sometimes there is relief in symptoms after the infant passes gas or has a bowel movement. Gas is likely the result of swallowed air during prolonged crying. Causes The cause of colic is unknown. It may result from numerous contributing factors. While a number of causes have been explored, it’s difficult for researchers to account for all the important features, such as why it usually begins late in the first month of life, how it varies among infants, why it happens at certain times of day and why it resolves on its own in time.
42
DECEMBER 2021
Possible contributing factors that have been explored include: 4 Digestive system that isn’t fully developed 4 Imbalance of healthy bacteria in the digestive tract 4 Food allergies or intolerances 4 Overfeeding, underfeeding or infrequent burping 4 Early form of childhood migraine 4 Family stress or anxiety Complications Colic does not cause short-term or long-term medical problems for a child. Colic is stressful for parents. Research has shown an association between colic and the following problems with parent well-being: 4 Increased risk of postpartum depression in mothers 4 Early cessation of breast-feeding 4 Feelings of guilt, exhaustion, helplessness or anger Diagnosis Your baby’s doctor will do a complete physical exam to identify any possible causes for your baby’s distress. The exam will include: 4 Measuring your baby’s height, weight and head circumference 4 Listening to the heart, lungs and abdominal sounds 4 Examining the limbs, fingers, toes, eyes, ears and genitals 4 Assessing reaction to touch or movement 4 Looking for signs of rash, inflammation, or other signs of infection or allergies Treatment The primary goals are to soothe the child as much as possible with a variety of interventions and ensure that parents have the support they need to cope.
Soothing strategies
Parent self-care
You may find it helpful to have a plan, a list of soothing strategies you can try. You may need to experiment. Some may work better than others, and some may work one time but not another. Soothing strategies may include:
Caring for an infant who has colic can be exhausting and stressful, even for experienced parents. The following strategies can help you take care of yourself and get the support you need:
4 Using a pacifier 4 Taking your infant for a car ride or on a walk in a stroller 4 Walking around with or rocking your baby 4 Swaddling your baby in a blanket 4 Giving your baby a warm bath 4 Rubbing your infant’s tummy or placing your baby on the tummy for a back rub 4 Playing an audio of heartbeats or quiet, soothing sounds 4 Providing white noise by running a white noise machine, a vacuum cleaner or clothes drier in a nearby room 4 Dimming the lights and limiting other visual stimulation Trial changes in diet If soothing or feeding practices aren’t reducing crying or irritability, your doctor may recommend a short-term trial of dietary changes. If your baby has a food allergy, however, there would likely be other signs and symptoms, such as a rash, wheezing, vomiting or diarrhea. Dietary changes may include: Formula changes. If you feed your infant formula, your doctor may suggest a one-week trial of an extensive hydrolysate formula (Similac Alimentum, Nutramigen, Pregestimil, others) that has proteins broken down into smaller sizes. Maternal diet. If you’re breastfeeding, you may try a diet without common food allergens, such as dairy, eggs, nuts and wheat. You may also try eliminating potentially irritating foods, such as cabbage, onions or caffeinated beverages.
Take a break. Take turns with your spouse or partner, or ask a friend to take over for a while. Give yourself an opportunity to get out of the house if possible. Use the crib for short breaks. It’s OK to put your baby in the crib for a while during a crying episode if you need to collect yourself or calm your own nerves. Express your feelings. It’s normal for parents in this situation to feel helpless, depressed, guilty or angry. Share your feelings with family members, friends and your child’s doctor. Don’t judge yourself. Don’t measure your success as a parent by how much your baby cries. Colic isn’t a result of poor parenting, and inconsolable crying isn’t a sign of your baby rejecting you. Take care of your health. Eat healthy foods. Make time for exercise, such as a brisk daily walk. If you can, sleep when the baby sleeps — even during the day. Avoid alcohol and other drugs. Remember that it’s temporary. Colic episodes often improve after age 3 to 4 months. Have a rescue plan. If possible make a plan with a friend or relative to step in when you’re overwhelmed. If necessary, contact your doctor, a local crisis intervention service or a mental health help line for additional support. Recent studies show Biogaia (Probiotics) are helpful. Consult your family physician and or Paediatrician for further help. www.entertainmentmagazine.ca

Bunty Aur Babli 2’: A family entertainer that’s short on novelty Director: Varun V. Sharma. Cast: Saif Ali Khan, Rani Mukerji, Siddhant Chaturvedi, Sharvari Wagh, Pankaj Tripathi, Yashpal Sharma and Asrani. IANS Rating: ***1/2 ‘Old wine in a new bottle’ is how one can sum up ‘Bunty Aur Babli 2’ in one phrase. The second part of the immensely popular 2005 movie, ‘Bunty Aur Babli’, starring Abhishek Bachchan and Rani Mukerji, is a frothy comedy with its share of light-hearted moments, but it is essentially a rehash of the earlier film and does not score high on either originality or novelty. Except for the introduction of the new Bunty (Siddhant Chaturvedi) and Babli (Sharvari Wagh), there is not much newness that this film offers. The new duo, who are engineering students, are jaded and let down by the system. They are on the prowl and succeed in their kind of con games with ease. Sometimes, sending sex-starved men in a private charter to a non-existing country named Virgin Republic and at other times, giving out the River Ganga on lease to the mayor of the city, the modus operandi remains the same, only the situations change.
over the top. Siddhant Chaturvedi has a strong screen presence and adds chutzpah to his character with his suave demeanour. He is a delight to watch. Sharvari Wagh too contributes ably and essays her character confidently and with conviction. Pankaj Tripathi sleepwalks through his role as there is a sense of déjà vu seeing him in a UP set-up and in uniform.
Vexed by their success, Police Inspector Jatayu (Pankaj Tripathi), who is gunning for a promotion, hires the original Bunty (Saif Ali Khan) and Babli, (Rani Mukerji) to nab the new con duo. Rakesh Trivedi (Saif Ali Khan) and Vimmi Trivedi (Rani Mukherji) are now settled in domestic bliss at Fursatganj, UP, where he works as a ticket collector in the Railways, and she is a housewife and mother to Pappi, their son. How the original twosome chip in to trap the new Bunty and Babli by delving into their minds forms the crux of this film. Some of the situations offer elements of humour, but are mostly oft-seen and repetitive. The dialogues are somewhat funny with a forced attempt at humour. The weak writing is what does the film in, as the characters appear cardboard-thin and unidimensional.

DECEMBER 2021
Prem Chopra, Brijendra Kale and Asrani, all competent actors, are wasted in small and insignificant roles. The child artiste playing Rakesh and Vimmi’s son shows a lot of promise and is confident, way beyond his age.
The situational comedy too appears trite and fails to evoke laughter. With no exciting twists or turns in the plot, or even an engrossing climax, the film fails to deliver excitement in any form.
own, but does not match up to the original Bunty. He seems more in place in the Abu Dhabi scenes, where he poses as Bhullar, a hawala king, rather than as the ticket collector in UP.
Saif Ali Khan makes a sincere effort. but does not fit into Abhishek Bachchan’s shoes. He lends the character a style of his
Rani Mukerji tries hard with her inconsistent Punjabi accent, but does not leave half the impact she did in the original film and appears
The cinematography by Gavemic U Ary is worth a mention, and the scenes, are stylishly captured, especially the ones in Abu Dhabi. The music, though, lacks lustre. The numbers are disappointing, and despite ‘Tatoowaliye’ and Arijit Singh’s ‘Love Ju’ being catchy, they are not lyrical and worth humming. Overall, ‘Bunty Aur Babli 2’ falls short of one’s expectations and seems like a feeble attempt at recreating the first film.
