MOVIE REVIEW

Director: Abhishek Kapoor Cast: Aditya Roy Kapur, Tabu, Katrina Kaif, Aditi Roy Kapur, Rhaul Bhatt The movie revolves around the life of 13 year old boy Noor, his love Firdaus and Begam Hazrat who plots the retribution on these youngsters. Begam Hazrat plays a major role in keeping Noor and Firdaus away from each other. Except for few scenes, Aditya Roy Kapur and Katrina Kaif starrer movie, Fitoor come across in a disappointing way of adaptation of Charles Dicken’s great adaptations on which movie is based. The screen play of the movie fails to engage the audience even after the heart breaking performances by Tabu and Aditya. If we talk about performance of everyone in the movie, Aditya Roy Kapoor is highly talented actor who are had made lots of efforts to make justice with the character of Noor right from his body, to his looks and performance. On the other hand, Katrina Kaif performance, we do not know the reason of Abhishek Kapoor selected him. Firdaus as a character is really beautiful but no one reads her mind that actually what she is feeling. But due to Katrina’s expressionless acting, fails to deliver the exact emotions of Firdaus especially in the last climax of portion. If Katrina able to give convincing performance at the end, movie could whole be a better. The main attraction of the movie is Begam Hazrat’s character that

has being played by Tabu. She steals the show in Fitoor. Her expressions, her walk and her face totally in synch with Miss Havisham, on which her role based. Coming to direction, for Abhishek Kapoor it was first attempt of making a love story and as a director, he performed a good job. Visually the movie is presented in an excellent manner. Cinematographer deserves credit for capturing the beauty of Kashmir which includes red chinar leaves, snow covered mountains and grey of winters. Every frame in the movie is the work of art. Every scene presented in such a way that wants to get the scene printed on the wall of your house. Special mention about the back ground score and song composer, Amit Trivedi whose music will take you to another world. If the flaws in the movie could be able to rectify then it could become the best movie. The conversation between Begum and Firdaus should not be presented to such a level that somewhere the plot of the movie is being lost. Fitoor is being shoot in Kashmir, state provides a beautiful canvas on which story can be based and painted. In the whole, Fitoor is all about Aditya and Tabu. Apart from them, perfect sync between cinematography and music of the movie which will keep you hooked to your seats.

ALZHEIMER’S

ALZHEIMER is a chronic neurodegenerative disease that usually starts slowly and gets worse over time. The most common early symptom is difficulty in remembering recent events , Short term memory loss. As the disease advances, symptoms can include Problem with Language, Disorientation ( including easily getting lost), mood swings loss of self drive, not managing self care.As a person’s condition declines, they often withdraw from family and society

Dr. Pargat Singh Bhurji MD,FRCP ( C ) Consultant Pediatrician Surrery BC

History In Ancient Civilization & Cultures Dementia was attributed to be part of old age. In 1901, Dr Alois,German Psychiatrist, discovers the problem in her wife at the age of 55 years. After that he took care of her till her death in 1906. While after that, he also shared the experience and wrote about the disease in medical Journals describing the symptoms & it’s

Complications. Cause The Exact cause is unclear but we can assume that Genetics & our Lifestyle are the predominant factors. Lack of neurotransmitter Acetylcholine may be also a cause. Acetylcholine which also do not help all the times. Our Brain has about 100 Billion Neurons , they are all assigned to do specific tasks such as memory, speech, inte lligence, hearing, vision, cognition etc. It is believed that in Alzhimers, there may be plaques of beta amyloids between 2 adjacent neurons blocking their function which in result affects the transmission of messages. Research also shows that there

could be tangles or tau protein in the neurons which affects them to function Appropriately . Stages of Alzheimer’s 4Misplacing items sometimes. 4Minor Short term memory Loss. 4Occasionally forgetting some things. 4Not remembering exact details. Early stage Alzheimer’s 4 Not remembering episodes of forgetfulness. 4Forgets names of family or friends. 4 Changes may only be noticed by close friends or relatives. 4 Some confusion in situations outside the familiar. Middle stage Alzheimer’s 4 Greater difficulty in remembering of recently learned information. 4 Deepening confusion in many circumstances. 4Problems with sleep. 4Trouble knowing where they are? Late stage Alzheimer’s 4Poor ability to think. 4Problem in speaking. 4Repeats same conversations. 4More abusive, anxious, or paranoid. Diagnosis Alzheimer’s disease is usually diagnosed based on the person’s medical history, that is being able to collect from relatives, and some by behavioural observations. CT Scan, MRI , PET Scans may also help Blood test Such as Sugar, Iron, Cholesterol, Thyroid Function are also being done to rule out other causes for these symptoms. Apart from that, assessment of intellectual testing & memory testing may also help to check Spinal Fluid for Beta Amyloid and Tau protein. Prevention

No Definitive study or proofs are available which can help in prevention. Diet rich in Omega 3 fatty acids , Mediterranean Diet,Fish, Avocado have been discussed is the best for our brain Keeping our Blood Pressure and Blood Sugar in Normal range. Brain exercises like Playing Chess, Cards, Games, Reading,Singing, music also may help maintaining healthy active lifestyle. Avoiding Stress Stop Smoking, Healthy eating, Meditation, Yoga, Volunteer Work Management There is no cure for Alzheimer’s disease; available treatments offer relatively small symptomatic benefit but remain Palliative in nature. Current treatments can be divided into pharmaceutical, psychosocial and caregiving. 4Medications to Restore Acetylcholine 4Psychological intervention 4Behavioural Therapies 4 Care giving at home or in a Care facility 4 Self care with Bath,Nutrition , Elimination help & Monitoring ALZHIMERS in Canada 4 In 2011 the estimated cases were about 750,000 4 15% of age 65 and above affected 4 More in women because they live longer than Men 4 Cost Analysis is about 33 Billion Dollars per year 4 Cost Analysis did not take in to Account the care givers cost, family missed time cost etc Research A new medication Bexarotene, neurostatin is being Studied in Worms to Prevent Alzheimer’s. This medication is used to treat Cancers such as Lymphomas .It will take several years to conduct further Research.

How to prevent Sugar Cravings Naturally According to estimates, an average Canadian consumes 72 kg of sugar every year. Ironically, in some cases, it exceeds the weight of an average individual.

By: Surinder Shaun Kochhar LPN, FCN

Cont. from last issue Let us discuss the solution part In this case a patient and the doctor is the same person that’s you, You, YOU. I know by now you are little worried about your health. Put on your thinking caps and have a look at a solution which looks very simple on paper but difficult to implement. Millions have successfully done it and are breathing gleefully on this globe with their dear ones. Your food is your medicine. You are what you eat. After 20 years of age food starts showing up on our bodies in a good number of cases. The body of theman becomes apple- shaped and that of a woman, pear-shaped. To break free of sugar cravings naturally by revamping your diet readthe following. The information provided below does not constitute a substitute for professional medical or nutritional advice. Consult your doctor because he/she knows your medical condition. Let us read ut-infra:Increase Serotonin Levels in our brain via Diet Studies suggest that decreases in serotonin levels can cause us to crave for sugar. Serotonin is a chemical that functions as a neurotransmitter helping brain cells and other nervous system cells communicate with one another. Serotonin is made out of Dopamine another parent neurochemical. Excellent outside sources of serotonin (more than 3.0 µg/g) include walnuts, pecans, plantains, pineapple, bananas, kiwi fruit, plums, and tomatoes. Walnuts and pecans are one of the best sources of serotonin. Serotonin controls mood/ mood swings too. Eat 14 halves of walnuts towards help repeatedly. Eat Plenty of Tryptophan-Rich Foods Tryptophan, an essential amino acid [type of protein base], found in protein rich foods, serves as a precursor to serotonin, and therefore an adequate intake of tryptophan rich foods can help with sugar cravings. To get the most out of tryptophan, one should try to increase the blood levels of tryptophan, relative to the blood levels of the other essential amino acids, as other amino acids compete with tryptophan for entry into the brain. One way to do this is to consume some healthy carbohydrates together with the tryptophan-rich meal.High tryptophan foods include nuts, seeds, tofu, cheese, red meat [eat in moderation- 2 times a week], chicken, turkey, fish, oats, beans, lentils, and eggs. In case of eggs, remove the outer white skin layer next to the shell,as it brings heart disease being made of cholesterol. Eat egg yolk in moderation say 2 per week. Eat Plenty of Foods That Provide B Vitamins- anti craving nutrient

B vitamins can be helpful for fighting sugar cravings. Vitamin B6 (pyridoxine), found in a variety of foods including beans, meat, poultry, fish, and some fruits and vegetablesespecially dark leafy greens, papayas, oranges, and cantaloupe., can be particularly beneficial due their role in the conversion of tryptophan to serotonin. According to traditional Chinese medicine, sugar cravings may be a sign of an imbalance which can be rectified by eating bitter-tasting foods such as bitter gourd, the leaves of the chicory plant. As an additional bonus, chicory greens contain vitamin B6, a well known anticraving nutrient. Ensure an Ample Supply of Glutamine Glutamine is an amino acid that provides energy in the brain and helps build and maintain muscle. It is commonly used by body builders to help reduce muscle deterioration during and post workout. Glutamine may also help reduce cravings for sugar and carbohydrates. This is likely to be a result of glutamine’s stabilizing effect on blood sugar levels: when the levels are low, glutamine suppresses insulin to prevent further decline of

the sugar levels. It also stimulates the release of glycogen from the liver to help increase the blood sugar to normal levels. Glutamine is found in many protein rich foods such as fish, chicken, beans, and dairy as well as in vegetables such as raw parsley, spinach, cabbage, and beets. Spinach alone provides plenty of glutamine. Climb Up Your Chromium Levels Chromium, a mineral help in stabilizing blood sugar levels and helps eliminate sweet cravings. Sometimes sugar cravings can simply be a result of chromium deficiency. Mild deficiencies in chromium are fairly common in people who eat processed foods very often. Processing decreases the chromium content of foods. Also, physically active people, people who drink lots of coffee, and — interestingly — people who consume high amounts of sugar have an elevated risk of being deficient in chromium. Diets high in simple sugar strip the body of chromium, setting up a vicious cycle for sugar craving. Cont. in next issue

Professor William had asked him to bring these for an experiment. He heard the school bus honking. So, he raced outside and climbed in his bus. He sat with his best friend Rob. Rob asked, “Where are you going for holiday?” “I’m going to Andaman and Nicobar islands,” replied Jason. Bus reached the school. Children ran to the class and went to their seat. First period was of Professor

Jason took out his materials that he had brought for experiment. Sir told everybody to connect the wires to potatoes and attach the other end to the bulb. So Jason gave it a shot. And voila, the bulb lit up! Professor William was on the moon when Jason did it first. After the school, Jason went home and packed his suitcase. His mom said, “Do it fast and don’t forget anything. Tomorrow we are leaving for Andaman and Nikobar islands for our holidays.” Next day, they started their journey by plane. Jason was very excited. He asked him mom impatiently, “When will we reach there?”

“We’ll reach in some hours,” replied his mother. Many hours later, Jason again asked, “We didn’t reach yet.” “We’ll reach in some hours,” again replied his mother. Her answer was still the same! “Why are we not reaching there soon?” asked Jason. He was tired of waiting and was surprised with her mother’s answer. Soon Jason saw something and said excitedly, “I can see an island.”
