“Highway” by Sid Bhullar
S
id Bhullar, an upcoming rap artist, from Vancouver, Canada has recently released his new single, “Highway”. Since its release in late November of 2018, the video has now reached over a million views and continues to be seen worldwide. The new single, “Highway”, depicts the current culture of the millennial era and describes how life keeps moving forward before our eyes. The lyrics were written and sung by Sid Bhullar, while the music video was directed by Mark Hemstock. Bhullar Inc. produced the video with promotion by Zee Music Company. This single now sits at over one million views and viewers from all over the world are showing appreciation for the pop culture and message displayed. Bhullar was born and raised in Vancouver, British Columbia. He began his journey as an aspiring rap artist at the age of nine. In 2012, Bhullar released his first single, ‘Won’t Stop’. His self-written lyrics rose awareness towards strong topics like Anti-bullying and supporting one another through hardships. He was then featured on several radio and television talk shows, for demonstrating current, essential community matters in his music. Bhullar displayed his skills of being a third-degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do, in this music video. He has competed nationally and internationally in this sport, and received countless gold and silver medals for his talents. Since then, Bhullar has released several music videos and recorded over 30 singles. He will be releasing his official, debut album later in this year of 2019. Currently, he is attending medical school in Ireland, to fulfill his other dream of becoming a medical doctor. When asked about these conflicting ideas of becoming a rap artist, but also a medical profession, Sid quoted, “Education is very important. I want to pay attention to my education, alongside my passion. Once I have my degree, I want to focus my entire energy towards bringing awareness of important topics in our global community, through my passion of writing lyrics and rapping.”

5 Signs You and Your Partner Were Meant for
Each Other
Ritika Tiwari Freelance Writer/ Blogger/ Content Strategist
S
o you have met the person who is ‘The One’ for you. When you meet someone you have a deep connection with, you feel like you have known them for your entire life. While that feels exhilarating, sometimes you might need some signs to confirm that they are definitely ‘The One’ and you aren’t just wearing rose coloured glasses. To help you out, we have put together the five points that you definitely can’t miss.
You make it work, even if it means compromising
Every relationship has its own problems and issues which can often result in conflicts. But if you are able to resolve these conflicts without hurting each other or your relationship, then that implies that you are capable of making compromises for the sake of your relationship. If both of you are able to move past dif-
ferences and make compromises to make your relationship work, then you are truly compatible with your partner.
You respect each other
When you respect each other, you understand that you are different people with different values, beliefs, opinions, and goals. You respect your differences and allow each other to grow while supporting each other every step of the way. You also let your partner have their own personal time and space. These are signs of two truly mature individuals in a strong relationship.
being vulnerable with your partner. You feel like you can share your secrets and be who you are because of a strong bond of trust between you and your partner. When you trust each other blindly and share what you wouldn’t share with anyone else, it’s a sign that your relationship is strong and you are meant to be with your partner.
You encourage each other to be better human beings
You can be vulnerable with your partner When you are in your moments of weakness, you seek the comfort of each other. True love is all about being comfortable when
When you are in a strong relationship, you constantly motivate your partner to pursue their goals and ambitions. You encourage them to be a better person and chase their dreams. The synergy between the two of
you brings out the best in you. That’s a sign that you two are meant to be.
You can share good news and bad news with each other
While sharing good news isn’t that hard, the true test of a partner depends on how they react when you have some bad news to share. Do they comfort you, pay attention to you, and show compassion? Or do they seem distracted? If your partner is there with you for both the happy as well the sad moments, then then that’s the sign of a person who truly cares about you. Watch out for these signs and find out whether you and your partner are destined to be together.

VALENTINE’S DAY 2019: WHAT’S SO GREAT ABOUT BEING IN LOVE
T
his day is dedicated to the celebration of the sweetness of love. Couples on this day get a chance to showcase the love inside their heart and take vows to be with each other for life long. They confess love to each other with different types of gifts including flowers, chocolates, message cards and many such. Facts about St. Valentine…. Although, it is not very clear who St. Valentine
actually was but it is said that he was a priest of the third century AD. Stories tell that marriages have been banned by Emperor Claudius II as he thought that married men prove to be bead soldiers. This led St. Valentine to arrange for marriages in secret. And, since it was considered as a crime, he was imprisoned and sentenced to death for the same. During the imprisonment itself, he believed to have fallen in love with the daughter of the jailer and so he sent a love letter to her bearing a signature as from your Valentine on 14th of February. And, it was the day of his execution when he said goodbye to the jailer’s daughter. A book named as Martyrologium Hieronymianum, has mention of the name ‘Valentine’. What’s the connection of Cupid and Valentine?
8
FEBRUARY 2019
Cupid is believed to be the God related to desire, affections, erotic love and much more. Often he is presented as the son of Goddess of love Venus and God of war Mars. In the Latin language cupid is known with the name Amor meaning love. While in the Greek language it is known as Eros which considered as an ancient symbol associated with St. Valentine. Most times, he is portrayed as small figure with a representation of arrow and a bow which shows that it strikes the heart of people. Whosoever falls in love is believed to have been struck by the arrow of the cupid. When Gifts did became an important part of Valentine Celebration? It was 18th century when Valentine took its toll in England and that people started sending cards, sweets, flowers and other gift items to express their emotions. Gradually, the tradition of presenting printed cards started replacing the hand-written cards. Nowadays it has become a tradition that people exchange cards in all parts of the world and this has become the second largest time of the year when most number of cards are sold.
There isn’t any harm in just putting over the card as ‘Happy Valentine’s Day’ and then leaving as there but a heartfelt message will definitely create some magic. Of course not all of us can know that poetic way of presenting things but you can always take help from some really hearty message of some poets from the past. You can take inspiration from those love poets and your partner will appreciate yp0ur choice of thoughts. Also, Importance of Roses on Valentine’s Day On Valentine’s Day more than 50 million roses are sold and they actually are of great importance when it comes to expressing that inner most feelings of love. There are different colours of roses that you can choose to express love to different relations like that of the relation of friendship and relationship of a romantic love. The magic of presenting roses is an altogether a magical experience and without a rose Valentine’s Day is actually incomplete. Cortsey: stvalentinesday.org

WE ARE NOT SELLING LIFE INSURANCE, WE ARE SELLING FINANCIAL PROTECTION
Sandeep Ahuja
W
e take life insurance coverage to protect our loved ones from the undue financial burden once we leave the world. You’d need to be aware of the course of action that needs to be followed in case a death claim arises. By following that, it would be possible to get the claim process completed in a timely manner. There are assumptions in the market that the insurance companies are solely working as a profit making corporation and they do not pay claim benefit when the need arises. This is not true. The insurance company is not aiming only to make money, they simply need to verify that the claimant/insured didn’t mislead the insurance company during purchase of policy and the intentions were entirely genuine to safeguard their family in the case of any untoward incident. After verification of facts, the insurance company promptly pays the death benefit to the claimant who can use it as per the needs of his/her family. When you purchase a life insurance policy, the insurance company provides you coverage in good faith and uses due diligence to conduct medicals of the client. The insurance company has the right to ask for your medical history from the family doctor or specialist that you have visited in the past for any major health concern. When a claim arises, what should you do! First, immediately, look into your policy and verify with insurance company or your advisor that it is ‘in force’. Then, request the company to send the required claim forms which usually include claimant statement, physician statement, death certificate and additional documents (if someone dies abroad). Gather all documents, get the physician statement completed by the doctor, complete claimant statement and then, submit documents to claims department of insurance company. If you are not certain about any point, you may seek the guidance of your insurance agent since he has a better understanding of the claim procedure. Now, depending
upon the time duration that your policy has been in force, it may be subject to contestability period (if it has been in force for less than two years). Contestability period means that the insurance company has the right to probe deeper into the claim. They may probe the details by consulting the provincial health listing to verify the physicians that insured had consulted during the past 5-10 years. For this, the claimant needs to sign an authorization for the release of health records. Then, insurance company requests medical information from the physicians to verify that the medical facts submitted by insured during the purchase of policy are correct and, that the insured didn’t submit any falsified information during the purchase of policy. Also, they verify the facts related to insured’s death to rule out any false information or foul play. It is important that you do not submit any falsified information during the purchase of policy. Because, during the emergence of a claim, the insurance company will verify in detail the medical facts submitted by the claimant and at that time, if any falsified information comes to the notice of insurance company, you will lose the claim benefit. The purpose of buying insurance for your family’s security is defeated. If somebody hides his smoking status or other physical/mental ailments thinking that he can do away without this information during a claim, it may have a derogatory effect on the overall financial estimates of insurance company. The rate of premiums is calculated by taking into account client’s health history and lifestyle. So if at that stage, the actual health history and lifestyle are not brought to the attention of insurance company, the premiums may be undercharged

against the actual cost. Also, if the company had come to know about the inaccuracy/untruthfulness of submitted facts, it would not have issued the policy at all. However, it doesn’t mean that the insurance company is aiming solely to deny the claim. They simply need to verify that the claimant/insured didn’t mislead the insurance company during the purchase of policy. Their

handling procedure and criteria applicable to the coverage that the insured has. For more information, contact your insurance company. Keep in mind that life insurance is a valuable resource to secure your family during their times of need. Always submit true facts to the insurer when you purchase a policy. This will save your family from the unwanted hassles when they actually need that resource to cope up with their financial needs. As an independent insurance advisor working through Punjab Insurance Agency and dealing with different insurance companies, I can assist you to avail the best insurance coverage suitable for your needs and resources. Also, I can also help you to purchase mortgage insurance, super visa insurance, disability insurance, critical illness insurance, extended medical plans, group medical plans, RESP, RRSP, travel insurance, TFSA accounts, health and dental plans along with estate planning suitable for your needs and resources. Reputation of a person travels faster than the man concerned? Prof. Surinder Kochhar (Shaun) LPN, FCN, M.Com, CAIIB, DIM A freelance writer with 36 Years Exp. A Health Coach of University of Victoria
R
eputation is very important in life, because it is not just one aspect of our personality, it is made up of all the aspects of our personality. It means that, because of our reputation, people are already familiar with us, even without having been formally familiarised to us. Likewise, we should continue to surpass the good things that others come to know about us, and if bad, to change them -if we can - and in some of the cases all of us can to some good extent. But always be at peace with yourself, failing which you will be seeing your Physician in patches. Your reputation travels faster than you: Most of us know the phrase, “our reputation precedes us.” I have always understood it to mean that - when someone is moving to a new job-people will already know of that person by reputation, will have heard what you are like. You won’t be there completely unknown. It means that what you have said or done, or what has been said about you [ right and wrong both], is available for public notice and has come to the attention of the person now speaking to you. This can be good, or it can be bad. And it means that the person now speaking to you has already formed an impression of you before you even met that person. Some people are always on a faultfinding-mission: I hated that, because it made it very difficult for me, to get off on a sound footing -while on a new job/posting. These people were always looking for a reason to remonstrate me before I had even done anything wrong. When I became experienced on this shoddy behaviour, slowly I became primed to it. Reputation is one of, if not the most important thing, an individual has: Let me tell you a little bit about how I grew up. I was raised in a conservative middleclass home, where my parents always made sure that I was representing myself well. So, I was allowed going out and partying, only with friends, with people who shared my family values. My rev. father explained to me when I was
It takes over two decades to build a reputation, and less than five minutes to ruin it. If you are conscious about that, you’ll do things consciously, positively, a little differently and in succession.
10
FEBRUARY 2019
According to my parents, it could only take one bad decision to ruin the way, those who respected me, thought of me. It was important to represent myself well, I was repeatedly told, because I in turn represented my parents, my siblings, my teachers, my coaches, and my employer[s]. My parents wanted me to be a respected member in my community, and I was fortunate enough that no one ever took that away from me. 16 years young that the real world was unfair, and that I would always have to prove myself worthy of grabbing the opportunities available down the lane. Over a considerable period of time I learnt that it doesn’t matter what other people think of you. That we need to only worry about the opinions of those you care about, e.g. your family, your best friends, and your significant other(s). You can’t live life walking on egg shells trying to prove yourself to everyone. If you know you’re a good person, that is all that matters. You can be a professional in the workplace and still be able to do whatever you want without an issue. But it may not get the nod of the society. Some do dare to swim against the tide. In the real world, perception is valued over reality: You can be the kindest and most positive person in the world, but if you make one bad decision, everyone will label you for that mistake. If you decide to be mean to a colleague, don’t be surprised when someone else who has observed this doesn’t want to be your friend. You cannot go through life solely concerned with what only you think or know to be true. Social media now a days provide wings to information right or wrong at a great speed: Always remember that life is a huge networking opportunity. Nothing good ever comes easily, and if you want to be respected, respect yourself enough to say no and make
the decisions necessary to take you there. Safe guard yourself, and make sure your character is translated to your reputation. What goes around comes around, so make sure that everything that you do is exactly what you want people to know about you. Our reputation represents the way others look at us: It is critically important. However, because even those of us with resilient self-esteem live in a great social network and need a good reputation for practical purposes—though friendship and income chief among them. It’s hard to have friends if people think you’re mean-spirited and very hard to make a living in any capacity if people think you’re lazy, unreliable, or dishonest. Our reputation is a tool, then—not, hopefully, for creating or maintaining our self-esteem but for practical navigation through activities of daily life. Though a good one smoothing out the journey somewhat, a bad one causing doors to slam in our face and testing our confidence in ourselves. Let’s face it, we all have had negative feedback: In real life or online, negative feedback happens in a routine way. As per experts listen to the feedback. You don’t need to feed the trolls but you definitely can take the opportunity to sincerely hear what the feedback is and evaluate if it’s something you can gain and grow from it or just ignore it. Social media is influencing our reputations lately: In today’s social-media-dominated culture, adults spend a lot of time crafting and curating their reputations, virtually and offline. New research suggests that even children do the same thing in real life, too — potentially as early as at age 5. Children start caring about their reputations in Kindergarten: It really does seem to be that around age 5, we, the human beings, start to engage in behaviors that require certain kinds of problemsolving. As per a research, understanding how and when kids begin to develop these skills may offer insight to parents, educators
There is one school of thought that highly recommend to genuinely try to be who you are, say what you honestly feel inside because those who mind does not matter and those who matter does not mind.
A good reputation shouldn’t be an end in itself but rather a natural outgrowth of your striving to be the person you most want to be. Conversely, always remember that feedback need not necessarily be positive all the time. Why? Because, people have difference of opinion on various issues and every difference of opinion must be respected. and policymakers How to build good reputation: As all of you clearly understand that, it is indeed harder to build a reputation than to destroy it. Building a good reputation requires effort, patience, and plenty of time. Destroying a good reputation only requires a single moment’s wrong step. The secret to building a good reputation is to try to become a person who really deserves one. Take consistent action that exemplifies the characteristics you want others to associate with you. Don’t just mouth the platitudes of hard work, attention to detail, loyalty, and drive—live them. In fact, do not praise yourself. Let others discover them in you. The benefits of a good reputation are: • A good reputation can come to your rescue when other members of your network rise to your defense without your even knowing it. • Sometimes you may not feel like you deserve your reputation, that’s it’s better than you are. Rather than wailing your weaknesses, let your good reputation serve as a motivator for you to try to improve yourself. • A good reputation represents a great marketing strategy. When I find a service provider of any kind whose performance outsmarts their competitors, they become like bonanza to me. I use them repeatedly, recommend them enthusiastically to others, and don’t envy paying them what they’re worth. • A good reputation inspires others. We all need positive feedback and a good reputation. That always help us to grow steadily Conclusion: Some may think reputation doesn’t matter or shouldn’t matter, that we should all simply focus on doing our best. And let others think as they may. Certainly, I agree, we should never seek to manipulate what others think about us. It may work initially but it never works in the long run anyway. There is a rider attached to it. We must not ignore the practical importance of a good reputation. In case we ignore it by being flaccid, then many opportunities we are bound to miss which we might otherwise enjoy. Constantly caring about our reputation doesn’t mean we need others to like us or appreciate it. It means recognizing that as a human being, we also need it to grow in life. Good reputation is a panacea for life and everyone likes to carry a good reputation.

Keep cleansing towelettes handy for a quick wipe down before you can make it to the nearest sink. You need to be your own drill sergeant when exfoliation is concerned. A regimented sloughing off of dead skin cells is the only thing that encourages cell renewal and keeps spots at bay. Your skincare regimen should include both mechanical and chemical exfoliants: scrub twice a week and book an AHA peel with your dermatologist every couple of months for glowing skin.

f the change in weather has inspired you to dump the indoor gym routine for an outdoor sport, your skincare regime is due for an overhaul. The sun, the pollutants in the air and the dirt will wreck havoc on your skin if you don’t give it the attention it needs before you step out and once you’re done. Along with your workout gear, here’s what you should have in your kit if the gold-standard of skin is your goal.

Don’t forget the sunscreen
Applying sunscreen regularly is a no-brainer. But if you’re going to be braving harsh, unrelenting rays shining directly on to your face, you need to up your sunscreen ante. Even if you don’t have dry skin, playing a sport outdoors will dehydrate your dermis. Layer on hydrating skincare products to create a barrier and really lock in moisture. Fight the free radicals
Free radicals are the biggest cause of premature ageing and antioxidants are the only solution. A Vitamin C serum will repair damaged skin and protect against the sun, so it’s perfect for daytime wear. Supplement with antioxidant-rich foods like grapes, berries, nuts and green tea.

Sonakshi Sinha and Varun Sharma to head to Punjab for film
Jacqueline Fernandez: Whatever I am today is a result of all the choices I made
J
acqueline Fernandez credits her success and failure for keeping her balanced and calm. The actress says she doesn’t regret any of her decisions. “The journey (in Bollywood) has been very rewarding, I have been blessed with opportunities to deliver my best and work with some of the biggest names and films,” Jacqueline told IANS in an email interview. “I look back and feel satiated to the balance of both successes and failures because both have taught me to be balanced and calm. Whatever I am today is a result of all the choices I made through the journey so I do not regret anything,” added the actress of Sri Lankan origin. After winning the Miss Sri Lanka beauty pageant in 2006, she made her debut in the Indian film industry with 2009 film Aladin opposite actor Riteish Deshmukh. The film turned out to be a dud at the box office, but Jacqueline got noticed and went on to do films like Housefull 2, Murder 2, Kick, Brothers, Dishoom and Judwaa 2. She says she has learnt a lot through the journey. “Meeting new people and coming across new experiences have given me several lessons which have been fruitful in not just dealing with the challenges in the industry but also the way of life. The love and support of the audience is my biggest asset that I have earned in my professional career,” added the actress, who launched Skechers D’Lites range in Mumbai earlier this month. When it comes to picking brand endorsements, the actress says she is “very particular” about this. “It is very important that the brands I choose are environment friendly. I would never endorse a brand that in any way harms or hinders animals,” she added. On the film front, she will soon be seen with actor Sushant Singh Rajput in “Drive”, scheduled to release on June 28. The Dharma Productions’ project was earlier locked for release on March 2, 2018. Then it was announced that “Drive”, which is said to be a heist film, will race to cinema halls on September 7.
A
ctors Sonakshi Sinha, Varun Sharma, Annu Kapoor, Kulbhushan Kharbanda and Nadira Babbar will shoot in Punjab for a slice of life entertainer. The shooting will begin on January 25. Directed by debutant Shilpi Dasgupta, the film has been written by Gautam Mehra. Based in Hoshiarpur, Sonkashi plays a happygo-lucky Punjabi girl who adores her family and will go to any length to see them happy even if it means not living her dreams. “I am extremely happy to be part of this film which is so close to the world around us, to step into the shoes of a small town girl, and face the hilarious, madcap challenges thrown at her. Full of flavour, fun and emotions; I am so looking forward to begin this journey,” Sonakshi said in a statement. Producers Bhushan Kumar and Mahaveer Jain have joined hands with director-turned-producer Mrighdeep Singh Lamba for the yet-to-be-titled film. Bhushan Kumar said: “It is a slice of life film with superb ensemble cast. The film will make you laugh, cry and fall in love with every character.” Lamba added: “When emotions come strongly with laughter, it’s a story worth one’s time. The film explores the extraordinary dreams of an ordinary girl in a madcap world.” The film is slated to release later this year. Cortsey: IANS

EVEN THINGS THAT AFFECT YOUR VIBRATORY FREQUENCY FROM THE POINT OF VIEW OF QUANTUM PHYSICS.* Vibration in quantum physics means that *everything is energy.* We are beings that vibrate at certain frequencies. Each vibration is equivalent to a feeling and in the “vibrational world, there are only two types of vibrations, the positive and the negative. Any feeling causes you to emit a vibration that can be positive or negative.
*1st.- THE THOUGHTS*
Every thought emits a frequency towards the Universe and that frequency returns towards the origin, then in the case, if you have negative thoughts, of discouragement, sadness, anger, fear, all of that turns

towards you. That is why it is so important that you take care of the quality of your thoughts and learn to cultivate more positive thoughts.
*2nd - THE COMPANY We have..*
The people around you directly influence your vibrational frequency. If you surround yourself with happy, positive, determined people, you will also enter into that vibration, now if you surround yourself with complaining, cursing and pessimistic people, be careful! Well, they may be decreasing your frequency and as a consequence preventing you from making the Law of Attraction work in your favor.
*3rd - THE MUSIC*
The music is very powerful. If you only listen to music that speaks of death, betrayal, sadness, abandonment, all that will interfere in what you vibrate. Pay attention to the lyrics of the music you listen to, it may be decreasing your vibrational frequency. And remember: You draw into your life exactly what you vibrate.
*4th - THE THINGS YOU SEE*
When you watch programs that deal with misfortune, death, betrayal, etc. your brain accepts that as a reality and releases a whole chemistry in your body, causing your vibrational frequency to be affected. See things that do you good and help you vibrate at a higher fre-
If you tend to complain or speak badly about things and people, this affects your vibrational frequency. To maintain your high frequency it is essential that you eliminate the habit of complaining and speaking badly about others. Then avoid making dramas and victimize yourself. Take responsibility for the choices of your life.
*7 - THE GRATITUDE*
Gratitude positively affects your vibrational frequency. That is a habit that you should incorporate right now into your life. Start to thank for everything, for the good things and those that you consider not good, thanks for all the experiences that you have lived. Gratitude opens the doors for good things to flow positively in your life.

Changing Trends of Fashion- Is Our Culture Still Preserved?
Some believe fashion to be an art form, while others consider it to be a way of expressing themselves and showing who they are, without words.
Ritika Tiwari Freelance Writer/ Blogger/ Content Strategist
W
hile fashion means different things to different people, it is widely agreed that fashion is a form of expression and a representation of our personalities. As fashion is who we are and what we wear, it is largely influenced by our culture. Changing trends of fashion For an ancient country like India, fashion is heavily influenced by history, politics, society, culture and heritage. During British rule, fashion was synonymous with the Victorian fashion style and as such, western clothes became a symbol of status and wealth during that period. Following the independence, India began shaping its own identity, which also reflected in the fashion trends. Khadi, introduced by Mahatma Gandhi, was a huge fashion trend. During the 60s and 70s, the flourishing film industry ushered in an era of bright colours, polka dots and bell bottoms,
18
FEBRUARY 2019
while also laying emphasis on heavy jewellery and embroidered sarees. From the 80s, the fashion trends started reflecting western influence in the form of denim, leather jackets and glittery apparel. With the onset of globalisation in the 90s, trending fashion involved short dresses, crop tops, halter necks, long skirts, high-waist pants and full-sleeved salwar kameez in different styles. The late 90s and early 2000s also witnessed Indian designers flourishing at the international stage. The use of eccentric Indian material and prints along with western fashion reflected the perfect amalgamation of classical values and modern outlook. This popularised kurtas and kurtis with denim, spaghetti tops with sarees and shirt-like kurtas for men, among other trends. Current fashion trends have furthered this east-west fusion. The use of ethnic prints such as kalamkari (a traditional form of hand painting), ikat (a traditional dyeing technique), bagh and bagru on sarees, gowns, tops and blouses, crop tops with high-waisted ethnic skirts, Aline kurtas with palazzo pants, embroidered waistcoats sporting vibrant Indian colours and material, long and embroidered Indian gowns using ethnic material are all excellent examples of fusion wear. Preserving Indian culture through changing fashion trends Throughout these changing trends, we can see that the rich Indian culture has always been reflected in what we wear.
Although they might not be worn in the same way, our tradition and rich heritage have always managed to make a huge presence in our fashion trends, regardless of the era. Sarees, lehenga cholis, anarkalis are as popular now as they were in our past, dating back to the time of kings and queens ruling different Indian states. The vibrant and colourful Indian prints, materials and stitching techniques have been preserved in different ways since ancient times and adopted by fashion designers
worldwide. This shows that even though the fashion trends might change, our roots and rich culture aren’t forgotten. It’s important to remember this and continue preserving our culture and national heritage in fashion. As stated earlier, fashion is an expression of who we are, where we come from, and what we believe in. Reflecting our culture through what we wear is a great way of preserving it.

A After Several Delays, Hrithik Roshan’s Super 30 to Finally Release on July 26
H
rithik Roshan-starrer Super 30 will now hit the theatres on July 26. The actor made the announcement on Twitter. “Happy to announce that #Super30 is headed for release on July 26, 2019. Bahut jald samay badalne wala hai (The times are going to change soon),” Roshan wrote. Super 30 is based on the life of the Patna-based scholar Anand Kumar, who trains 30 deserving, economicallybackward students for IIT-JEE entrance exams every year with commendable success rate. Produced by Reliance En-
tertainment and Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment, the film also stars Mrunal Thakur, Amit Sadh and Nandish Sandhu. The film has been directed by Vikas Bahl, who has been accused of sexual harassment by a former employee of the now dissolved production company, Phantom Films, of which the director was a founding member. Phantom was also attached as co-producer. After several changes in release date, Super 30 was earlier set to hit the theatres on January 25 and clash with Thackeray and Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi. Last October, Roshan had broken his silence on allegations against Bahl, saying it is “impossible” for him to work with any person “guilty of such grave misconduct”. “It is impossible for me to work with any person if he/she is guilty of such grave misconduct. I am away and have access to only sporadic information. I have requested the producers of Super 30 to take stock of the apparent facts and take a harsh stand if need be. “This is not to be hushed or brushed under the carpet. All proven offenders must be punished and all exploited people must be empowered and given strength to speak up,” Roshan had said in the statement shared on Twitter. Notably, Bahl has repeatedly denied the allegations. Cortsey: PTI

The Ultimate Orthodontic Retainer Guide
Dr Vishal Sharma BSc, DDS, Cert. Ortho. FRCD(C), FCDS(BC)
Contd. from previous Edition
• I t’s crucial that you clean your permanent retainers as well. Much like braces, the wire will trap food debris and plaque. If the plaque isn’t removed, it can lead to tooth decay and gum disease and I may need to take your retainer out. Floss once a day and brush at least twice a day, in the morning and before bed, being extra diligent about cleaning the wire. You might want to try using an interdental brush too to clean around your bonded retainer since the brush is smaller and meant to fit in tight spaces. •D on’t underestimate the importance of orthodontic retainer cases. I’ll give you a case when I fit

you for a retainer and you can also purchase them on your own. Your retainer case will prevent your retainer from being accidentally broken or eaten by your pet (dogs love retainers!). Also, by making it a habit to always put your retainer in its case when you’re not wearing it, you’ll be less likely to lose it. I recommend getting a brightly colored case so that it’s easy to spot. For younger patients, sometimes,
/saentertainmentmagazine
@ansalmedia
putting the case in a bigger bag is a good idea. A bigger bag is easier to keep track of. • T ake your removable retainers out to eat, drink anything except for water, brush your teeth and floss. Trying to eat with it in your mouth can result in it getting damaged. Again, when you remove it for a meal, put it in its case. Never store your retainer in a napkin or paper towel or anything like that. It’s a surefire way for it to accidentally get thrown away and you definitely don’t want to have to dig around in the trash for it. Putting it in your pocket is also a no-no since it can break. • L eaving your retainer in the car in the summer, accidentally running it through the washer and dryer or letting it come into contact
@sa entertainment
with hot water will cause it to warp. Even if it’s in its case, avoid extreme heat. • Remove your retainer before swimming or playing sports. If you’re playing sports, put it in its case and pop in a mouthguard to keep your new smile safe! • If your retainer is damaged or bent, don’t try to fix it on your own. This can make it worse or throw off the fit, which defeats the purpose of wearing it. Call the office and I’ll take a look and see if I’m able to repair it for you. • Bring your dental retainer to all of your orthodontic appointments. I’ll examine it to make sure it’s in good condition and make adjustments if necessary. • If you lose your retainer or it breaks, call us right away. The sooner I can replace it, the less tooth movement you’ll experience. For being such a small, seemingly simple appliance, retainers are powerful tools to keep your smile looking its best for a lifetime. If you have any questions about retainers or you’re ready to get started on braces or Invisalign in Surrey, Abbotsford or Langley, book a free consultation at Aura Orthodontics today!

5 Beauty Tips To Get Your Skin Party Ready
T
he party season is close at hand and even though you’re excited about it, your skin might not feel the same way. We can see why. Wearing makeup daily, consistent late nights and plenty of alcohol and sweet treats through the holidays can leave skin feeling fatigued, looking dull and breaking out. That’s why before it even begins, get your beauty arsenal ready with these 5 skincare tips and products to keep your face looking fresh and feeling healthy through the season.
1. Never Skip Removal
The importance of makeup removal can never be skipped past. No matter how late it gets, makeup must be removed, especially before sleeping otherwise it will accumulate on the skin which can clog pores and lead to breakouts.
2. Find The Right Fit
Finding makeup that works for your skin type is incredibly important. Since you’re wearing makeup more often at this time of year, the right makeup will work more cohesively with your skin to last longer and feel more comfortable in it.
3. Hydrate A Little Extra
To make good on the hours you aren’t hydrating your skin, make sure you give it an added dose of nourishment whenever possible. Do this by drinking a lot of water through the day, moisturising before applying makeup and using a hydrating face mask when possible.
4. Wash Your Brushes
As makeup is a constant companion during the holiday season, ensure it goes on smoothly and hygienically. Frequent usage of your makeup brushes means more makeup and skin cells being collected in them. The only way to reduce the risk of skin infection is by cleaning your brushes regularly.
5. Scrub Away
It’s possible for excess oil, makeup and debris to get caught in your pores, even after you cleanse your face. You can fix this by scrubbing your skin thoroughly on a regular basis, depending on the type of skin you have. Now you can carry on partying without worrying about your skin too much. 7 Practical Ways You Can Reduce Food Waste and Save Money
Over one-third of the food produced in the world gets wasted. Food wastage isn’t just a bad practice, but also quite harmful to the environment. It’s also the money you wasted that could have been put to better use. Here are seven practical ways to help you reduce food waste -
Ritika Tiwari Freelance Writer/ Blogger/ Content Strategist
#1. Plan your meals When you plan your meals, you know exactly what and how much you’re going to prepare. As a result, you will only buy enough to prepare these meals, thereby avoiding food waste and saving money which you can put aside for other expenses. #2. Shop realistically People often tend to buy more than they need. Additionally, we tend to buy in bulk to save costs. However, buying in bulk in one of the main reasons for food being wasted. Visit the grocery store more frequently making smaller purchases rather than buying in bulk every two weeks. Planning what you wish to buy and making a list helps also helps you stay on track and avoid making impulse purchases. #3. Eat before you go shopping Food shopping when you’re on an empty stomach often leads to impulse purchases which you might regret later and simply end up wasting. Have a healthy snack to curb these impulses and keep your purchases more practical and rational.
you know what you’re storing and whether there are any leftovers. Keep the older food items in the front and the newer ones at the back. #6. Keep track of your waste Understanding how you waste food and what you throw away will help you keep track of future purchases. Also, keep an eye on how much you waste over the week and calculate the costs of the food being wasted.
This will help you plan your next trip to the grocery store a lot better and avoid wasting food as well as money. #7. Understand expiry dates ‘Best before’, ‘use by’, ‘expires on’ are terms used by the manufacturer to let consumers know when the food is most likely to go bad. What these terms indicate is that the food might not taste as good beyond the specified date. This doesn’t mean that the food is
unsafe to consume or is spoilt and needs to be thrown away. Perform a quick smell and taste check before you throw away food, and don’t simply go by the date specified on the product. With a small amount of planning, effort and lifestyle changes, you can drastically cut down on food waste. Use these seven practical tips to combat food wastage, save money and protect our environment.
#4. Store food properly In most cases where food gets wasted, it’s because the food is stale or inedible simply because they weren’t properly stored. Other times, people tend to mix up all fruits and vegetables while storing them, leading to the food going stale prematurely. Understanding how food should be stored and when they should be refrigerated helps avoid food waste. #5. Keep your fridge clutter-free When your fridge is all cluttered, you might lose track of what you’re storing. A well-stocked fridge is a great idea, but when it’s overstocked or cluttered, it leads to food waste. Keep it organised so that

Stress may cause excess Belly Fat…..... Prof. Surinder Kochhar (Shaun) LPN, FCN, M.Com, CAIIB, DIM A freelance writer with 36 Years Exp. A Health Coach of University of Victoria
Is stress bad? Yes, no. Yes, yes, no no. The truth is; stress is good and bad both. Good stress is called Eustress. Bad stress is called Distress. Eustress helps us to achieve goals in life whereas distress – if not controlled in time can lead to tension, then Anxiety and then depression in some cases in succession. Suppose a person is to write an exam tomorrow and towards preparation, if that person leaves aside everything and concentrate on study, then it is Eustress and he/she will score good marks. If the same person is vomiting vociferously before the exam, then it is distress.
Excess sugar consumption may be the primary driver of excess fat in the liver and belly area. This is particularly true of sugary beverages like soft drinks. Clean tap water or coconut water- in moderationare the only drinks of choice.
Stress is a silent killer: Stress is a number one reason for our troubles / sickness. Silently, it keeps on damaging us. That’s’ why it is called a silent killer.
body shape more than for men, leading to abdominal fat instead of lower body fat accumulation. The body of men become apple shaped and that of women become pear shaped.
Women are also vulnerable to the effects of stress: Non-overweight women who are vulnerable to the effects of stress are more likely to have excess belly fat, and have higher levels of the stress hormone Cortisol, as per experts. Study after study have confirmed that lean women with abdominal fat (sometimes known colloquially as “stress belly”) have been due to abnormal response to cortisol. It will not be out of place to mention that women with greater abdominal fat experience more negative moods and higher levels of life stress.
When under stress cortisol is released by our adrenal glands: Cortisol is a nature’s built-in alarm system. It’s your body’s main stress hormone. It works with certain parts of your brain to control your mood, motivation, and fear. It’s best known for helping fuel our body’s “fightor-flight” response in a stress causing crisis. Cortisol also plays an important role in a number of things your body does. For example, it: •M anages how our body uses carbohydrates, fats, and proteins •K eeps inflammation down •R egulates blood pressure •C ontrols your sleep/wake cycle •B oosts energy so you can handle stress and restores balance afterward Cortisol affects fat distribution by causing fat to be stored centrallyaround the organs. Cortisol exposure can increase visceral fat, i.e. the fat surrounding the organs-in animals and human beings. People with diseases associated with
Stress in men, Cortisol and Abdominal Fat: These relationships likely apply to men as well. However, excess weight on men is almost always stored at the abdomen. On the contrary, in pre-menopausal women, excess weight is more often stored at the upper arm or hips. Therefore, for women, it is possible that stress may influence

extreme exposure to cortisol, such as severe recurrent depression and Cushing’s disease also have excessive amounts of visceral fat. Everyone is exposed to stress? But, due to distress some people may secrete more cortisol than others, and may secrete cortisol each time they face the same stressor. Experts feel that reacting to the same stressors consistently by secreting cortisol would be related to greater visceral fat. Visceral fat is the deep abdominal fat that surrounds your organs. Even thin people can have dangerous levels of it. Some levels of visceral fat are normal and even healthy but too much can lead to insulin resistance i.e. diabetes, heart disease, and inflammation. After the successive exposure to stress, women with greater abdominal fat feel more threatened and perform more poorly and secret more cortisol. By the third exposure to stress, the lean women with abdominal fat still consistently secret more cortisol in response to stressful tasks, compared to women with peripheral fat. The abdominal region harbors still another a kind of fat, which lies
Greater exposure to stress or psychological vulnerability to stress may lead to enhanced cortisol reactivity. In turn, their cortisol exposure may have led them to accumulate greater abdominal fat. Hence, we gain weight.
outside the abdominal wall, just under the skin. This subcutaneous, or peripheral, fat tends to be soft and flabby; you can pinch or grab it. It has two compartments, the deeper of which is thought, like visceral fat, to have negative effects on health. Why stress result in release of more cortisol? It is possible that greater exposure to stressful conditions and psychological vulnerability to stress has led us to over react to stressors in our daily lives .That is why we have had greater lifetime exposure to cortisol. Cortisol, in turn is causing us to accumulate abdominal fat. Genetics, however, also play a role in shaping reactivity to stress, as well as body shape.” Lifestyle and age may also influence levels of abdominal fat: Smoking, alcohol and lack of exercise [living a sedentary life style] all contribute to greater abdominal fat. Post-menopausal women tend to carry fat at their abdomen, due to changes in sex hormones. A healthy lifestyle, including getting enough sleep [ 7 -8 hours a day, exercise [ 150 minutes per week] and relaxing life style, may reduce cortisol levels. Simple Ways to Lose Belly Fat, Based on Science: Belly fat not only looks bad, it is also strongly linked to diseases like type 2 diabetes and heart disease. As per medical parlance, anything above 40 inches (102 cm) in men and 35 inches (88 cm) in women is known as abdominal obesity. Fortunately, there are a few scientifically proven strategies that have been shown to target the fat in the belly area more than other areas of the body with detail as follows:

Don’t eat added sugar and avoid sugar-sweetened drinks Table sugar is a man-made poison as per Dr. Robert Lustig’s book, “Fat Chance: The Hidden Truth About Sugar, Obesity and Disease.” Robert H. Lustig is an American pediatric endocrinologist. So, we need to avoid added sugar as it is very unhealthy. Sugar is half glucose, half fructose, and fructose can only be metabolized by the liver in significant amounts. When you eat a lot of added sugar, the liver gets overloaded with fructose and is forced to turn it into fat. This fat can lead to increased accumulation of it in the belly and liver. Hence weight gain Liquid sugar is even worse in this regard. Liquid calories don’t get “registered” by the brain in the same way as solid calories, so when you drink sugar-sweetened beverages, you end up eating more calories. Studies show that sugarsweetened beverages are linked to a 60% increased risk of obesity in children. Try to completely eliminate sugary drinks This includes sugar-sweetened beverages, sugary sodas, fruit juices and various highsugar sports drinks. Always keep in mind that we can gainfully consume whole fruit, which are extremely healthy and have plenty of fiber that mitigates the negative effects of fructose. The amount of fructose you get from fruit is negligible compared to what you get from a diet high in table [refined] sugar or added sugar. Eating more protein is a great long-term strategy to reduce belly fat: Protein is the most important macro-nutrient when it comes to maintaining weight. It reduce cravings by 60%, boost metabolism by 80–100 calories per day and help you eat up to 440 fewer calories per day. Eating plenty of protein can boost your metabolism and reduce hunger levels, making it a very effective way to lose weight. Several studies suggest that protein is particularly effective against belly fat accumulation. A recent study showed that refined carbs and oils were linked to increased amounts of belly fat,

but fruits and vegetables linked to reduced amounts. For weight loss we need to cut Carbs from our diet: Carb restriction is a very effective way to lose fat. When people cut carbs, their appetite goes down and they lose weight. Studies have shown that cutting carbs is particularly effective at getting rid of the fat in the belly area, around the organs and in the liver. We need to be on low carb diet. Low-carb diets also lead to quick reductions in water weight, which gives people near instant results. By avoiding the refined carbs (sugar, candy, white bread, et al) should be sufficient, especially if you keep your protein intake high. To lose weight fast, consider dropping your carbs down to 50 grams per day. This will put your body into ketosis mode, killing your appetite and making your body start burning primarily fats for fuel instead of carbs. With low-carb diet one can avoid type 2 diabetes also. Eat foods high in Fiber, especially

viscous fiber: There is some evidence that soluble dietary fiber can lead to reduced amounts of belly fat. This should cause major improvements in metabolic health and reduced risk of several diseases. Dietary fiber is mostly indigestible plant matter. It is important to keep in mind that not all fiber is created equal. It seems to be mostly the soluble and viscous fibers[ plant based fiber] that have a better effect on our weight. These are fibers that bind water and form a thick gel that “sits” in the gut area. Soluble fiber is found in oat bran, barley, nuts, seeds, beans, lentils, peas, and some fruits and vegetables. It is also found in psyllium, a common fiber supplement. Some types of soluble fiber may help lower risk of heart disease. Insoluble fiber is found in foods such as wheat bran, vegetables, and whole grains. This gel can dramatically slow the movement of food through your digestive system, and slow down the digestion and absorption of nutrients. The end result is a feeling of fullness for longer time and reduced appetite. Are Fiber Supplements Effective for Weight Loss? A very large review study found that psyllium and guar gum — both soluble, viscous fibers — are ineffective as weight loss supplements. One notable exception is glucomannan, a fiber extracted from the konjac root. Shirataki noodles available at Walmart are an excellent choice. The best way to get more fiber is to eat a lot of plant foods like vegetables and fruits. Legumes are also a good source, as well as some

cereals like whole oats. Exercise is effective at reducing belly fat: Exercise can be very effective if you are trying to lose belly fat. Exercise also has a number of other health benefits and can help you live a healthy longer life sans disease. Aerobic exercise (like walking, running, swimming, etc.) has been shown to cause major reductions in belly fat in numerous studies. Another study found that exercise completely prevented people from re-gaining abdominal fat after weight loss, implying that exercise is particularly important during weight maintenance. Exercise also leads to reduced inflammation, maintaining normal blood sugar levels and improvements in all the other metabolic abnormalities that are associated with excess abdominal fat. Keep a track of your foods you eat: What you eat is very important. We, the people, think that we are eating “high protein,” “low-carb” or something else, but tend to radically over- or under estimate ourselves. Anyone who truly wants to optimize their diet, tracking things for a while is absolutely quintessential. We need not to weigh and measure everything for the rest of our lives, but doing it- in patches- for a few days in a row can help to realize where we need to make changes. I personally do this every few months to see what my current diet looks like. That helps me to keep my weight under check by making adjustments, wherever warranted. Time is ripe to make a start or restart, dear friends. Jet set go!!!

Six tips to make the most of your RRSP
NAVDIP UPPAL Senior Mortgage Planner at Centum Axis Mortgage Corp
Saving for retirement doesn’t have to be challenging An RRSP is a type of investment account that allows you to reduce the tax payable on your current income when you save it for the future. 1. Plan your retirement goals. What kind of lifestyle do you want to live in retirement? Start making goals now, and meet with your financial advisor to ensure your security as you enjoy a long and fulfill-

ing retirement. 2. Invest early for higher growth. Investing in your RRSP well in advance of retirement means that your money has more time to benefit from
tax-sheltered growth. 3. Leverage your tax refund. Remember that RRSPs aren’t tax-free, they are tax-deferred – so as tempting as it might be to spend your
tax refund, reinvesting it will work to your long-term advantage. 4. Contribute now, deduct later. You don’t have to claim deductions on your RRSP contributions in the same year that you make them. If you are expecting a future increase in taxable income that will push you into a higher tax bracket, you can defer claiming deductions until later to benefit from a higher tax refund. 5. More room to invest in your future. Excess contribution room left over from contributions made under the annual limit can be carried forward indefinitely for use in future years. 6. Lighten the tax load. Income splitting is a way for couples to reduce overall taxes in retirement. It involves shifting up to 50% of eligible pension income from a higher-income spouse to a lower-income spouse.

A Girl in a Whirl Contd. from previous issue (Part 27) Adam and Eve began dwelling together. They were free from all vices completely. The other day, evil in the form of a snake asked Eve that they ate all types of fruits, why not from the one tree? Eve asked Adam the same question. Adam replied that God had forbidden them from eating. Eve told the same thing to the snake. The snake asked Eve to eat that fruit. He also said that Adam and Eve wouldn’t die after eating that fruit, rather they would be able to differentiate between good and evil just like God. Hence the snake convinced Adam and Eve to eat that fruit. Both got instantly inflicted with the vices of sex, anger, greed, infatuation, pride, lie, jealousy and dishonesty. When God came to see both of them, they were not coming before Lord. God called Adam again. Trembling Adam presented himself before God. When God asked why he was not coming before Him, Adam replied that he was naked and feeling shame to present himself before God. God asked him why Adam had eaten the fruit despite His warning. Adam was inflicted with all vices. His innocence was gone. He blamed God that the women

created by Him had asked him to eat that. Eve told that the snake had prodded her to do so. God threw Adam and Eve out of the Eden Garden. Because of broken relation with God, Adam and Eve bore children and kept fighting with each other over one or the other issues. They virtually died every moment for the fear of one or the other thing. Sometimes, their fights turned so severe that they tried to even kill each other. Their next generations are also suffering the same fate. Death, old age and several types of diseases torture them. Numerous mysterious ominous forces attack them. Man is going through all these things for the one mistake of Adam and Eve. After several eras, God felt mercy on Adam and his next generations. He sent Jesus, his only son, to take all the punishments of people on Himself. Jesus took birth from Virgin Mary’s womb. Jesus told people that He is a living God. He also said that he had come to save man. Jesus was crucified by the then ruler. It was Friday, and that’s why this day is commemorated as Good Friday. The very next Sunday and Monday are celebrated Easter days for Jesus got up from His grave after his crucifixion and met his followers. Then, Jesus flew up in the sky and disappeared. disciples to spread his message all around the world. Jesus told them the people would become free from the cycle of birth and death who took refuge in his name. The priest told that who accepts Him his/her lord, God gives them peace, sacred soul and all sorts of comforts in His own relation. But if anybody leaves Him after getting all the blessings and starts praying to someone else, he or she suffers all kinds of tortures forever. Priests ask these people to take a small mini cup of red-grape juice to remember that Jesus shed His blood for the salvation of His followers. Some pieces of crispy-thin roti are also offered to remind that the body of Lord Jesus bore all the punishment which were meant for His followers. The new comers are warned that they should accept Jesus their Lord for the rest of their life before consuming these two things. Otherwise, Lord would punish disloyal people even more severely. I began recalling all my hellish moments I had spent with Sam. Many other Punjabis also told similar stories of their life. They told me they had accepted Jesus their Lord forever for several similar reasons. They affirmed that they were very happy in their families then. I trusted them and I also took that piece of roti with the mini cup of juice. Contd. in next issue

This is one makeup essential you can’t do without
D
o you really need to use a highlighter on your face? Yes! Of course, we mean when you have a big event to attend and you know you’re going to get a few pictures taken! That said, there are a few dos and don’ts when it comes to your highlighter. After all, you want to accentuate your natural features. Now, if you’re new to highlighting or ‘strobing’ as it’s popularly known, here’s what you need to do..
Yes, it really can be as easy as 1-2-3! Now, if you’ve done it right, you’ll find that your face is suddenly catching the light, and you have a subtle but natural glow. But, while applying and blending seems simple and straightforward, knowing what you really need does go a long way. In order to do so, you need to identify your skin colour and type. If you have oily skin, using a powder can help. If you have dry skin, a liquid formula is your friend. Get the drift?
Step 1: Before you apply your foundation, prep your skin with a primer. Then, apply your foundation like you normally do. Next, apply blush to the apples of your cheeks, and then add bronzer, if necessary.
Your own personal roadmap of where the highlighter goes: • Highlight works great on the cheekbones, inner corners of the eyes, and surprisingly, the Cupid’s bow above the lips. This creates the illusion of a fuller pout. • You dust a tiny amount onto the bridge of the nose, but you can save this for an event as it’s not ideal for everyday application. • Highlighter can be a great way to make eyelids pop.
Step 2: Take a tiny, less than pea-sized, amount of the illuminator, and sweep it on the top of your cheekbone from the middle of your cheek up to your temple. Step 3: Now, blend it well so it’s not just a line.

Make your perfume last all day long Apply perfume on these points to make it last longer Everyone likes the idea of smelling great all day long. From investing in good perfumes to mixing it with lotions, there are a lot of hacks that promise to give you the most of your fragrance. However, what really matters is where to apply the perfume. Yes, you read that right. A few points on our body can actually make the perfume diffuse better and make you smell good all day! Here are the four pulse points, where you should always spritz some perfume! Inside the elbow All of us end up applying perfume on the wrist. However, the better pulse point is actually inside the elbow. This point emanates heat and helps to make your perfume last longer.
@sa entertainment
Behind your ears Spraying perfume behind the top of the ears can help it to diffuse better and last longer. This spot tends to get oily, which helps to hold the perfume better. Belly button The belly button radiates a lot of heat, which makes it a perfect spot for perfume. So, the next time you’re applying the perfume, make sure you spray it on your belly button too! Behind the knees Just like applying perfume inside your elbows, you need to apply the perfume behind your knees too! This area is oilier than other spots and can hold perfume for a longer time.

10 Women’s Wardrobe Essentials You Should Own
As the co-founder of the fashion and lifestyle site Coveteur, I’ve peeked into a lot of closets over the years and spent maybe too much time thinking about women’s clothing. Over the years, I’ve learned that focusing on a few, favorite pieces can be a much better approach than simply buying every cheap, trendy item that catches your eye.
W
coat is essentially your outfit since it is what most people will see you wearing. Investing in one that makes you feel great every time you put it on — and stands out from the sea of black parkas — will put a spring in your step even on the snowiest of days.
hile some pieces might be a bigger investment than others, having these key items will save you time and money since you won’t always be running out to look for something to wear or for something that matches what you already have. Here are my picks for the tried-andtrue women’s wardrobe essentials that every woman should own. The Denim You Feel Best in Everyone should have one pair of jeans that — no matter what — you can put on and feel good. Some days, no matter how hard you try, an outfit just won’t come together. When this happens, go back to your favorite jeans and pair them with a plain black or white T-shirt. You can’t go wrong, and you’ll leave the house feeling great. The Perfect T-Shirt While it may take some time to adjust to paying over $50 for a plain T-shirt, it is well worth the splurge. Having a great basic that you can pair with skirts, pants, or jeans really alleviates a lot of stress in the morning. Plus, if your cheap shirt falls apart in the wash, fades, stretches out, or shrinks up, you will end up spending more money re-buying poor quality T-shirts over and over again instead of just investing in a couple more expensive ones. A Low-Heeled Black Bootie Throughout my career, I have spent many hours scouring the internet and brick-and-mortar shops alike for the perfect black boot — the one that

goes with everything, the one you can walk around all day in but can also wear at night. Come fall, I rely on a classic bootie to pair with leather pants for work or long-sleeved dresses for a night out. A Comfortable Pair of Heels There is nothing worse than hobbling around all night in shoes that don’t fit correctly or are too high or too narrow. On top of the pain, it’s money wasted on a pair of feet destroyers – not to mention the money you will spend on replacing them. Finding a good pair of heels that you can actually walk in will make your night more enjoyable. Even if you have to shell out a bit more money upfront, you’ll save in the long run because you will wear them again and again. A Properly Fitting Pair of Pants
This may seem like a given, but in many cases, it’s simply not the case. Having a go-to pair of pants that fits you perfectly is key when you have a big meeting or evening event to attend. You can feel confident that you look polished and presentable, and you can focus on putting your best foot forward. I also believe it’s worth it to spend the extra money for a tailor to get them just right. A Bodysuit While this may make some of you gasp, trust me when I say I wear my basic bodysuits more than anything else in my wardrobe. They go with everything, they look super polished, and they are surprisingly more comfortable than you would think. A Statement Coat When the weather gets cold, your
The Wear-Everywhere Bag If you choose to invest in a luxury designer handbag, I firmly believe it should be as functional as it is beautiful. We rely on our everyday bags to take us to work, the gym, dinner, airplanes —the list goes on. I tend to find one that has a long strap in addition to handles, which makes a big difference. Make sure to consider the bag’s weight, too. Remember, if you are investing in it, you should be able to easily carry it around all day. Chic Travel Pants While the thought of sitting on a plane in uncomfortable clothing only adds to your travel anxiety, it is also important to look and feel your best when you land at your destination. Choose a pair that’s still comfy, yet a step up from plain sweatpants. An Everyday Piece of Jewelry Over the years, I have found that although I like to think I am going to switch my jewelry every day, that’s unrealistic. Instead, I have now switched over to investing in a piece of jewelry I love and wear every day that goes with absolutely everything. It’s nice to have one piece that brings you joy and makes you feel good every time you look at it. Cortsey:By Stephanie Mark, Dailyworth.com

How to clean and care for your leather handbag
W
e all know investing in a designer handbag can be a great investment, especially as its value will most certainly have increased by the time you resell it. However, how you care for it will impact its value, as if it shows too many signs of wear and tear, people won’t be willing to pay as much for it. So we thought we’d ask the Handbag Clinic at Harvey Nichols Knightbridge, for their top tips on how to care for your leather handbag. Oh, and these are obviously really handy if you simply want to keep your bag as pristine as possible forever, even if you don’t want to sell it!
1. Protect your handbag from day one
Whenever we buy something new, we always want to keep it in perfect condition and the best place to start is with prevention. We recommend using leather protection cream as soon as you take it home. It adds a protective barrier to leather that repels stains and protects the surface from wear and tear.
2. Clean your bag regularly
Whether it’s new or old, as well as protecting your bag, regular cleaning is a must. For a quick wipe-down, a damp cloth is enough, but typically bags will need a more thorough clean by a professional or using specialist cleaning product every 2-3 months to keep them in top condition.
3. Only use specialist leather cleaners
Never use baby wipes, vinegar or any other ‘home remedy’ for cleaning. Many of these products have chemicals and substances in them that can cause drying or colour loss.
4. Keep your bag in a dust bag when not in use
If your handbag came with a dust bag, use it! This will prevent the build-up of dust when it’s not in use and prevent any accidental scuffs. If you don’t have a dust bag, use a pillowcase.
5. Keep your bag stuffed
When not in use, stuff your bag with bubble wrap or even some old clothing to help keep its shape.
6. Avoid holding the handles too much
Admittedly, this is a bit of an odd one but natural oils from the skin or oils from moisturisers can damage

5 Different Ways to Wear
Denim
the leather and cause it to discolour! Protecting your leather will help, but try holding your bag over your arm.
7. Avoid wearing a light coloured bag with new denim jeans
Dye transfer is one of the toughest stains to remove and something we deal with daily. One of the most common causes is wearing new denim jeans with a light coloured handbag. Avoid dye transfer by (you guessed it!) protecting your bag and washing new jeans before wearing them.
8. Make sure the lid’s on!
Leaking pens, water bottles and even foundation not only ruin your day but can ruin your bag too! (You would not believe the amount of horror stories we have heard) When we’re in a rush, we’re all guilty of throwing everything in our bag and not checking if they’re sealed properly. Take time to put pens in a pencil case, your make-up in a bag and check your water bottle!
9. Be careful where you place your bag
At home, in the car, at work… Where do you keep your bag when it’s not in use? To prevent colour fading and damage to the leather, try to avoid heaters and direct sunlight. Heat can cause the leather to dry, resulting in cracking. The best way to prevent drying is by cleaning and protecting your bag every 2-3 month. Leather protection cream not only protects your bag from stains but will condition the leather too.
10. Use a handbag hook
When dining out, a typical clutch tends to be the right size to place behind you in your chair at the small of your back. Alternatively, you could use a handbag hook – aimed to keep your bag safe from wet tables and grubby floors! Cortsey: MARIE CLAIRE
T
he one piece of clothing that can make any outfit look well-styled instantly is denim. Believed to be invented in 1873 by Jacob Devis and Levi Strauss, denim has come a long way since its inception. Today, it has forayed into footwear, accessories, furniture and even vehicles as seat covers. From the most eminent designers in the fashion fraternity to celebrities and even influencers, denim has spared no one and is everyone’s go-to clothing item. We tell you five ways you can style denim this season and look stunningly fashionable:
KEEP IT CASUAL
What comes to your mind when you think of comfort and style together? A stylish pair of casual jeans indeed! Considered a wardrobe must-have, a pair of casual jeans could be styled with a simple, embellished T-shirt. To make the outfit look swish and smart, add-on a pair of white sneakers or flats.
BOOTCUT BABE
When our favourite skinny jeans become a big no-no in the monsoon season, bootcut jeans come to our rescue. Pair them with a printed, chiffon shirt to keep your look easy-breezy. Complete this look by wearing crocs or slip-ons.
DENIM ON DENIM
Wearing denim-on-denim is one fashion combination that can never go wrong. Style a well-fitted denim shirt with a slightly lighter shade of denim culottes and you’re ready to take on the world. Complete the look with floater sandals.
SKIRTS ARE IN
A-line skirts are in vogue! And what’s better than having them in denim. Don an off-shoulder, striped top over an A-line denim skirt to look perfect for a casual day out with friends. Pair the outfit with monsoon boots to complete the look.
LAYER IT RIGHT
What is the perfect colour-combination you ask for women’s fashion? White and denim hands down! Wear a printed white T-shirt, on skinny white jeans and pair them with a denim jacket. The entire ensemble exudes chicness. Complete the look with white sneakers. Cortsey: FEMINA

Anne Hathaway
O
to topline Robert Zemeckis’ ‘The Witches’
scar winner Anne Hathaway has been roped in for a major role in Robert Zemeckis’ film adaptation of Roald Dahl’s classic book “The Witches”. The project hails from studio Warner Bros and will be produced by Oscar-winning directors -- Alfonso Cuaron and Guillermo del Toro. Del Toro was earlier attached to direct the project but had to step aside due to scheduling conflicts, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The book follows a boy who stumbles upon a coven of child-hating witches he must stop, even though he has been turned into a mouse.

Hathaway, 36, is set to play the role of Grand Witch. The book was previously adapted by the Warner Bros into a 1990 film, starring Anjelica Huston as Grand Witch.Zemeckis will pen the script for the new film along with his ImageMovers partner Jack Rapke. They will also co-produce the feature. Hathaway is currently awaiting the release of thriller “Serenity”, which reunites her with “Interstellar” co-star Matthew McConaughey. She will also be seen in the comedy “The Hustle” and Netflix drama “The Last Thing He Wanted”.
Keira Knightley
ollywood star Keira Knightley has revealed that she thought of quitting acting following the overnight success of “Pirates of the Caribbean”. The actor said she nearly turned her back on Hollywood after suffering from Post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). In an interview with The Sunday Times’ Style magazine, Knightley was asked if she ever thought about quitting acting, she said, ‘’I did think about it. Particularly at the point when I had a breakdown. I had PTSD and panic attacks. I literally couldn’t work for a year and I didn’t know whether there would be an end to that.” “I have a super-solid background and thank f**k for that. My family and my small but very close group of friends just wrapped me up. And I think, without that, it would have been a very different story. I knew I always had somebody

there to cuddle me who didn’t want anything from me. Ultimately, I didn’t want them (the media and paparazzi) to win. The only thing I want to do is make films,” she added. The actor said she found stardom “very intense and lonely”. ‘’It was very intense and lonely. If there’s a camera at a party, I don’t think that’s a party, so I was never interested in being in that scene. I always wanted to be top of the class, and I always wanted to be perfect, and I always thought that I could just do fame right. “I tried being 5lb heavier, but then people say you have cellulite, and then 5lb lighter, and then you’re anorexic and causing people to die. It was just so much. But in a funny way I think I was quite lucky in that it was so insane that I sort of recognised it,” she said. Cortsey: PTI

ustralian actress Margot Robbie is to play Barbie in the first live-action feature movie about the iconic and controversial doll, who has enjoyed multiple careers in her 60-year lifetime. Toymaker Mattel and movie studio Warner Bros announced they were partnering to make the film, which will star the Oscar-nominated actress. Robbie, 28, will also co-produce the film, the companies said in a statement No plot, title or release date was announced for the film, which comes 60 years after the adultfigured Barbie fashion doll was launched in March 1959. Robbie, who was Oscar-nominated for her starring role in the 2017 ice-skating movie “I, Tonya” and who appeared in the 2016 superhero movie “Suicide Squad,” said she hoped the film would “have a tremendously positive impact on children and audiences worldwide.” “Barbie has empowered kids to imagine themselves in aspirational roles from a princess to president,” the actress said in a statement. Barbie has adopted more than 200 careers in her lifetime, including robotics engineer, astronaut and teacher. She is the best-known doll in the world and a cultural icon celebrated by the likes of Andy Warhol, the Paris Louvre museum, and the 1997 satirical song “Barbie Girl” by Scandinavian pop group Aqua. But critics said her curvy body promoted an unrealistic image for young girls, and sales began dropping in 2014, leading California-based Mattel to add a wider variety of skin tones, body shapes, hijab-wearing dolls and science kits to make the products more educational. The live-action Barbie film is the first venture from the recently established Mattel Films unit set up in September to develop the franchise of Barbie and other toys, such as Hot Wheels and American Girl. “Ethylene Glycol Toxicity”
O
Dr.H.BhullarDVM
52
FEBRUARY 2019
ne of the most common situations that some owners find themselves facing, is coming home to an ill pet and a puddle of discolored fluid near the car. Dogs and cats frequently will find their way to this antifreeze fluid and
consume it, displaying a number of different signs, which should be taken very seriously. This month’s main focus is a condition known as ‘Ethylene Glycol Toxicity’. Sources for which dogs and cats alike can contract such a toxicity, are: the fore-mentioned leaked fluid from the car’s engine; paint; windshield wiper fluid; photography developer solutions; portable basketball ports; and many other examples. Pets are often attracted towards drinking antifreeze, due to its sweetened taste. Signs come in three different phases, hence veterinarians refer to the presentation as ‘Triphasic Clinical Signs’. The first stage will occur within 30 minutes to 12 hours of consumption: disorientation, vomiting, lethargy, low body temperature, and possible seizures or comatose. In the second stage, which is labelled to be within 12 to 24 hours of consumption, you will witness your

sports
pet to slightly improve their current state and become more depressed and quiet. Excessive amounts of drinking and passing urine may also occur during this phase. In the third stage, which occurs between 24 to 72 hours of consumption, your dog or cat may become progressively weak, depressed, anorexic and have an increase in their breathing rate or feel difficulty in breathing properly. It is very important that as soon as you feel suspicious of this condition being present for your pet, that you bring them to your local veterinarian right away. Once you are at your vet, he or she may wish to conduct a few tests to confirm that this is a case of ethylene glycol toxicity. Once confirmed, it is essential that immediate treatment be administered to your pet, since this is a very critical condition. Your veterinarian, based on each individual case, may wish to induce vomiting for clearing your dog or cat’s system. Other options of treatment may be suggested based on your pet’s specific condition. According to the AVMA guidelines, it is recommended that a good prognosis is seen for dogs who are treated within 5 hours and cats who are treated within 3 hours of consuming ethylene glycol. In order to prevent such an occurrence from happening to your beloved pet, there are three key pieces of advice that we can pass to you. Try to avoid keeping your pets in your garage. The garage is a great source for harbouring this fluid in different locations that your pet can get into. Therefore, we also recommend that it may be a good idea to keep any products containing antifreeze, locked away safely in a closet, where your dog or cat cannot access. However, if you do find a spill or leak of this fluid present, the best way to clean it properly is by using cat litter. This is a special hack we like to suggest to our owners in ensuring that the fluid is immediately dealt with.

06 Top-Rated Tourist Attractions in Canada
T
he second largest country in the world, Canada has no shortage of beautiful landscapes and unique sites for travelers to explore. From coast to coast to coast, the country is home to vibrant and culturally rich cities, along with incredible natural wonders. In Western Canada, the Rocky Mountains and cities of Vancouver, Victoria, and Calgary dominate most itineraries. In Central Canada, Niagara Falls, Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal, and Quebec City, are some of the most popular possibilities. For those who venture out to Canada’s Maritime Provinces in the east, the beauty of Gros Morne National Park, along with the cities of Halifax and St. John’s provide their own unique character. Off the beaten path, but equally impressive is Canada’s North, with an opportunity to see polar bears in the wild and explore the remote beauty of places like Nahanni National Park and the cities of Whitehorse and Yellowknife. 1 Niagara Falls Niagara Falls is Canada’s most famous natural attraction, bringing in millions of visitors each year. Located just over an hour’s drive from Toron-
to, along the American border, these massive falls drop approximately 57 meters. Visitors can see the falls at an astoundingly close distance from the edge at their top. Niagara Falls and the Niagara Gorge have been attracting tourists and daredevils for well over a century. Between the mid-19th and mid-20th centuries there were numerous attempts to plunge over the falls in various types of homemade boats and barrels. This, along with tightrope walkers and other spectacles, led to the adjacent town of Niagara Falls developing a carnival type atmosphere that still persists today. Families will enjoy a walk down Niagara’s outrageous Clifton Hill leading to the gorge and falls.
2 Banff National Park and the Rocky Mountains Banff National Park lies in the heart of the majestic Rocky Mountains in the province of Alberta and showcases some of Canada’s most beautiful scenery. Turquoise green lakes, snow-capped peaks, and glaciers are all easily accessible in this stunning park. The jewel of the park is the Lake Louise, where green waters reflect the surrounding mountains
and visitors can stroll easily around the shores. The Icefields Parkway that runs from Lake Louise to Jasper is an unforgettable drive and another must see in Banff. At the south end of the park is the lovely little town of Banff, providing all kinds of accommodation, shopping, and dining options. In winter Banff is also a major winter sports area and home to Lake Louise Ski Resort and Sunshine Village, two of Canada’s most prominent ski destinations. 3 Toronto’s CN Tower On the shores of Lake Ontario in Canada’s biggest city is the iconic CN Tower, one of Canada’s most famous landmarks. The tower is one of the tallest structures in the world standing 553 meters high. It offers fine dining in its revolving restaurant, 360, where visitors can enjoy a meal while looking out over the city and lake. There is also the LookOut and the Glass Floor, offering beautiful views out over the city and beyond. Even those who choose not to go up the tower will find themselves stopping to stare at the structure, which is visible from almost everywhere in the city. At night, the tower is lit in different colors. 4 Old Quebec (Vieux-Quebec) Old Quebec, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is spread across the Upper and Lower Town of Quebec and contains the city’s most historic buildings. The Lower Town, along the St. Lawrence River, is the site of the original settlement and home to the outstanding Château Frontenac, as well as numerous other treasures. The Upper Town rests on 100 meter-high cliffs and is home to the Citadel, the Plains of Abraham, Place d’Armes, and the Parque Historique de l’Artillerie. This area is one of
58
FEBRUARY 2019
Canada’s most popular historical areas and is well developed for tourism. In addition to the historical sites, visitors will also find artists displaying their works on Rue du Trésor, interesting museums including the Musée de la Civilisation, and all kinds of shops and restaurants. 5 Whistler Just a two hour drive from Vancouver is the famous ski resort and village of Whistler. While Whistler has always been an important winter sports area, it has also developed into a popular summer destination with golf, mountain biking, and a lively town atmosphere throughout the year. The village gained wide international attention in 2010 when it became one of the locations for the 2010 Winter Olympic Games. The area offers world class skiing, hotels, and dining, as well as all kinds of other outdoor recreational opportunities and beautiful mountain scenery. 6 Ottawa’s Parliament Hill Ottawa’s Parliament Hill stands high above the Ottawa River and is graced by the Neo-Gothic style Parliament buildings built in the last half of the 19th century. The most prominent feature is the Peace Tower that divides the House of Commons and the Senate on either side. In front of the Parliament buildings is the Centennial Flame, lit in 1966 to commemorate the centenary of the Canadian Confederation, and behind the buildings is a sculpture garden. In the summer, the Changing of the Guard takes place on the front lawn of the Houses of Parliament, weather permitting. Below Parliament Hill, a lovely walk runs alongside the Ottawa River. 6 Positive and Negative Influences of Social Media on
Teenagers
Social media has a huge impact on every aspect of a teenager’s life. It is a daily part of a teenager’s life and heavily influences their behaviour, mindset, skills, and even aspirations. Here are some of the positive and negative influences of social media on teenagers -
Ritika Tiwari Freelance Writer/ Blogger/ Content Strategist
Positive Influences of Social Media on Teenagers #1. Create awareness Traditionally, teenagers weren’t exposed to the numerous issues of the world. But with social media, they’re being shown several cultural and political issues that affect nations and societies, which is essential to developing morally responsible and aware citizens of the future. #2. Develop social skills Many teenagers are socially awkward. Social media gives them the opportunity to expand their social circles, cultivate new friendships and relationships, find like-minded individuals with whom they can freely discuss their interests, boost confidence and build networks. Used in the right manner, social media is a powerful medium for developing and honing social skills. #3. Provide inspiration Social media is full of powerful and inspiring stories of people who have achieved their dreams, overcome obstacles, created an impact on their societies or countries. This serves as an inspiration, especially for teenagers who
www.entertainmentmagazine.ca
are trying to figure out their place in the world. There are also several social influencers who have achieved success in their respective fields. Many teenagers look up to these influencers, believe in them, and religiously follow them. This could play a huge role in instilling the right values and steering them away from harmful habits and addictions. Negative Influences of Social Media on Teenagers #4. Internet addiction Teenagers spend a lot of time on social media. Several teens wake up in the middle of the night and logging into their social media accounts. Uncontrolled use of social media leads to internet addiction, which affects their mental health, performance in school, and personal development. It also causes sleep deprivation. As teenagers need more sleep than adults do, a lack of sleep can cause tiredness, irritability and even affect the immune system, making them more susceptible to illness.
as it leads to more suicidal thoughts than traditional bullying. #6. Communication issues While teenagers use social media a lot to stay in touch with their friends and families, it isn’t a substitute to face-to-face communication. While communicating over social media, one cannot detect facial expressions or the tone of the voice, which could easily cause misunderstandings, especially when employing humour or
sarcasm. Also, when social media takes more importance over everyday interactions, teenagers end up not building authentic relationships or friendships. Since a lot of physical, mental, and emotional development happens during the teenage years, it is important to realise the impact of social media on teenagers. Helping them understand what matters, having discussions and setting some usage guidelines will greatly help make these effects more positive and manageable.
#5. Cyberbullying Cyberbullying is the most common form of bullying that uses social media to threaten, harass, embarrass or target a specific person. As teenagers spend an increasing amount of time online, it’s quite likely that they either witness or suffer from cyberbullying. In most situations, teenagers don’t report cyberbullying due to lack of awareness, fear and shame. They tend to internalise the effects, causing depression and self-destructive behaviour. Cyberbullying is more dangerous /saentertainmentmagazine

The Secret to Long , Happy & Healthy Life ? Think age Positive
Dr. Pargat Singh Bhurji MD,FRCP ( C ) Consultant Pediatrician Surrery BC
W
e were taught by our elders & family members to Respect our Elders, Now Medical Science also Proves & Endorses it By Showing Respect not only our Seniors Live Longer, they are Happy & have less health Problem. It also increases their age by over 7.5 years. With WHO Scientific Research we have new light in to this Subject By 2030 Globally we will have over 2 Billion Humans Age 60 plus In a 2016 World Health Organization survey across 57 countries, over 60 % of respondents reported that older people are not respected. A more recent Study by the Royal Society for Public Health in the UK gauged the feelings of 2,000 British citizens and found some other bleak trends. Almost half -- 47% -- believed that people over 65 struggled to learn new skills. A quarter of 18- to 24-year-olds and 15% of the total respondents agreed that “it is normal to be unhappy and depressed when you are old.” Becca Levy, professor of public health and psychology at Yale School of Public Health, believes that negative attitudes are due to “the growing medicalization of older adults” and “the growing anti-aging industry that promotes and actually profits from a fear of aging.” But in the UK alone, older people made net contributions to the economy of nearly 40 billion pounds (US $52.64 billion) during 2011 Negative stereotypes can be dangerous to older people in a number of ways, including shortening their lives. Levy analyzed interviews with 660 people from Oxford, Ohio, that were conducted over more than two decades and matched these with mortality information. Her team found that those with a positive attitude toward aging lived over 7.5 years longer than those who viewed it as something bad. We were very surprised at this difference,” said Levy, who believes that people with positive mindsets were able to live longer because positive attitudes can influence psy-

chological, behavioral and physiological mechanisms in the body. Positive thinking can better behavior by leading people to engage in healthier lifestyles such as exercise. A person’s positivity can also Improve their Psychology making them better at coping with stress -- a contributor to memory loss and Brain Shrinkage According to one of Levy’s Research in Ireland over the span of 30 years, mental conditions such as depression and anxiety were more common among people with negative ideas about aging. Where are people most negative? “High income countries are the highly industrialized countries and industrialization tends to devalue older people,” explained Erdman Palmore, professor of psychiatry and behavioral sciences at Duke
University, in an email, adding that traditional rural societies tend to have higher respect because older people can keep working longer and are more valuable to the economy. Retirement policies make older people seem less valuable to society and a country’s economy, he said. Japan, South Korea and Argentina are the three lowest-ranking countries when it comes to respect for the elderly, according to WHO carried out between 2010 and 2014, despite their large elderly populations. These respect estimates -- recorded in 2014 -- paint a changing picture of perceptions. In Japan, for example, middle-age men, who were traditionally valued, are now seen as having lost their honor and value in society. The UK report found that most beliefs around age are formed by the age of 6. “Once prejudice has been learned it is often very hard to unlearn,” the report’s lead author, Toby Green, wrote in an email. “For many people the stereotypes they absorb then persist into later life -- at which point they begin to apply them to themselves. This means that negative age stereotypes are embedded among groups of all ages,” he said. Uzbekistan is the Number one Country when it Comes to Respect for Elders, Over 80% do so in that Country. this is followed by Georgia, Qatar and so on. Pakistan is at Number 10 the only country from Asia to be in top 10 with over 60% Pakistani showing Respect for Elders USA is at 20% in bottom 10, followed by Germany, Sweden etc. The Lowest 2 are South Korea & Japan
Where did the stereotypes come from? Rewinding the clock 200 years, researchers found a shift in attitudes toward the elderly in 1880. When Industrial Revolution Began From the midst of industrialization -- people started seeing aging as something bad. The researchers suggest the rising number of people over the age of 65 was associated with the increase in negative beliefs around age. Still, there remain many countries where the elderly are viewed as a valuable part of the population and deserving of respect. The need for integration In 2016, WHO acknowledged the need for ageism to be globally addressed and highlighted that ageism is most likely more widespread than sexism and racism. Green believes that one of the solutions to reducing ageism is integrating generations. His report for the Royal Society of Public health found that 64% of Brits didn’t have a friend who is at least 30 years older than they are. Integration is “really important -- there’s so much evidence on the health and wellbeing benefits of this,” he said. Starting with young children and encouraging workplace diversity to tackle ageism are other strategies Green recommends. “Making this progress in workplace settings would do a great deal of good for wider cultural change. Respect your Parents and Grandparents for their good health & Long Life and you will get Blessings in Return.

HOW TO SET BALANCED GOALS AND ACHIEVE THEM Navtej Khela
I
Realtor and Mind Power Trainer
t seems New Year has just started, but we are already into February. Most of us like to set goals in the beginning of year. When it comes to goal setting, 97% of the people do not write their goals. If you ask them about their goals, they will say , “I have my goals in my mind.” Studies have shown that other 3% who have written goals achieve more success than 97%, who have their goals in their minds. In this article I am going to share some ideas about how to set goals and how important it is for us that our goals are balanced in all aspects of life. I highly recommend my family and friends to write your goals even before start of the New Year. I believe there is some magic in it. I have been practicing this in my life for so many years. Like everyone, I take time off during winter vacation but in a slightly different way. I call it ‘Thinking Time’ day off, during last few days of the ending year, I do intense thinking about how my next year should look like. I spend some time with myself, reflecting up previous year and think about what different things I want to do in next year. This year, I felt so happy that I attended a 10 day Yoga cum meditation session in the last week of 2018. It has really helped me think clearly, be more conscious about my well being, and also have an attitude of gratitude.
Tips of Goal settingWrite your Goals-
4 First of all take big paper divide it into four sections. Put four headings on top of each quadrant as – FITNESS, FAMILY, FAITH & FINANCE 4 Under each heading write down with your own hand 5 to 6 major goals you want to achieve in above areas of your life during next year. Be very specific about what you want. 4 Corresponding to each quadrant also write some action plan you will take to achieve that goal. 4 For examples- If goal is lose 5 Kg weight, action plan can be 5 days to gym, jogging, Yoga etc. 4 Similarly if goal is to achieve $500,000 as income, write action plan for how you would do it. 4 Your family goal could be Trip to India or your dream destination, your weekly time off for family. In Faith, You might set a goal to 30 minutes Meditation every morn-
www.entertainmentmagazine.ca
ing. 4 Next Important step is to put date line against all goals, it means when exactly you want that specific goals be achieved 4 You can keep in mind the very poplar phrase for goal settingSMART goals. 4 S- Specific, M- Measurable, AAttainable, R-Relevant, T-Time bound. Congratulations, after writing your goals you are part of 3% population, who are high achievers. If you are really serious about achieving your written goals, always keep in front of your eyes so that you could read them regularly. In order to do that you could paste them on your washroom mirror, bedroom or office so that you read them whenever get chance.
Create a Vision Board
The concept of vision board is another way of keeping your goals
/saentertainmentmagazine
in front of your eyes. Create a vision board by putting pictures of the things you want to achieve or pictures of the kind of person you want to become. This is a very powerful step. Your subconscious mind understands the language of pictures only. If you constantly keep seeing those images, it will make all the things happen as per your vision board.
Visualize your goals
This is another very powerful step. Once you have written your balanced goals, create a vision board, the next step is to visualize your goals. The best way to visualize your goals is to be in a relaxed state of mind first. Take a few long breaths, keep your focus of deep breathing and your body will start of relax. In a few minutes your mind will be in Alpha state, which is the best state of mind to visualize your goals.
Take Action

Action speaks louder than words. Take necessary action as planned, you will start getting results. Keep your focus on planning your day in such a way that you never miss any action in all areas of your goals. In today’s fast paced life, we should set balanced goals for our lives. All four F’s that I mentioned above are like for legs of a chair, if any of the leg is weak or broken, chances are chair will collapse easily. It is never too late to do the right thing. I recommend you to use above steps to set your goals from February onwards and you still have plenty of time to set and achieve all your goals. Feel free to call me if you have any questions.
