In the present time, the concept of Lohri is all about bonfires, fancy foods, food baskets, and dancing to the tunes of hit chartbusters.
But, do you know the traditional meaning of holy bonfire and why people together revolve around it post sunset? Well, it has a deeper meaning which is all about paying gratitude to the almighty and dancing to the beats of the dhol and enjoying a scrumptious feast. It is a festival that belongs to the region of Punjab and is mostly celebrated in the northern part of India. On this day foods like til (black sesame seeds), gajak, gur (jaggery), peanuts, and popcorn are fed to the fire as part of the harvest ritual. Lohri is also linked to ‘Winter Solstice’ - the shortest day and the longest night. It, in fact, marks the end of winters and the onset of spring. Here are 5 important things that you need to know about Lohri.
Many of us are not aware that the word Lohri comes from ‘Tilohri’ i.e. ‘til’ meaning sesame and ‘rorhi’ meaning jaggery/gur. Eventually, the festival was just referred to as Lohri. It is believed that these edible ingredients help cleanse the body, bringing renewed energy for the New Year. That’s why foods like jaggery, gajak, til ki chikki are offered to the fire as a way of paying gratitude to nature.
It is believed that offering food items to the God of Fire on this day helps take away all negativity from life and brings in prosperity. Here, the bonfire symbolizes Lord Agni. After offering food to the almighty, people seek blessings, prosperity, and happiness from Lord Agni.
It is also believed that if one walks around the fire on Lohri, it helps in bringing prosperity. In Punjab, this festival holds special value for the new brides. Many devotees believe that their prayers and concerns will receive an immediate answer and life will be filled with positivity.
Lohri marks the New Year for Punjabi farmers. On this day, the farmers pray and show gratitude for their crops before the harvesting begins and pray to Lord Agni to bless their land with abundance. They chant “Aadar aye dilather jaye” i.e. “may honor come and poverty vanish” while moving around the fire.
The discussion of Lohri is
incomplete without winter foods that are cooked and celebrated on this day. The traditional Punjabi menu on this day includes sarson da saag and makki di roti, til ki barfi, gur ki roti, makhane ki kheer, panjiri, pinni, til laddoo, gondh ladoo and more.
Source: IANSGiving a life insurance policy as a gift can be a meaningful and thoughtful way to show your concern for someone’s well-being and financial security.
There are several types of life insurance policies to choose from, including term life, whole life, and universal life. It’s essential to consider the needs and preferences of the recipient when selecting a policy. For example, a term life policy might be a good fit if they have a temporary need for coverage, such as to cover a mortgage or other financial obligations. On the other hand, a whole life or universal life policy might be a better option if they are interested in building cash value over time.
It’s also important to consider the cost of the policy and make sure you can afford the premiums. Life insurance can be expensive, especially for people with pre-existing health conditions or older. Make sure you choose a financially feasible policy and that the recipient is comfortable with the terms, including the length of the term, the coverage amount, and any exclusions or limitations.
Here are a few potential reasons why someone might consider purchasing whole life insurance for a child:
1. To provide financial protection for the child in the event of a tragedy: If the child were to pass away, the life insurance policy would pay out a death benefit to the beneficiary, which could be used to cover funeral expenses and other costs.
2. To establish a savings account for the child: The savings component of a whole life insurance policy can accumulate cash value over time, which the child or the child’s parent or
guardian can access for various expenses or goals, such as education or retirement.
3. To provide financial security for the child as an adult: If the child is the primary beneficiary of the policy, they may be able to access the cash value of the policy or use the policy as collateral for a loan when they reach adulthood.
Ultimately, the “best” gift will depend on the needs and preferences of the person you are giving it to. If a life insurance policy is a meaningful and appreciated gift, it could be an excellent option to consider. Just be sure to approach the idea with sensitivity and consideration and ensure the policy fits the recipient’s needs and preferences.

we have just stepped into a new year and there are so many of us who come up with yearly resolutions to be the best version of ourselves. Be it a friend or a family member, there usually is at least one person that definitely asks you about what your resolutions are for the year ahead.
whether you like to make them or not, research has found that people who make resolutions are 10 times more likely to attain their goals than people who don’t make resolutions at all. But, we also understand that it’s not so easy to keep your determination intact as life returns to normal just after this holiday mode ends and your old habits of mind and action start testing your resolution, pulling you away from the new ones you resolved to create.
But, there’s a science to success when it comes to achieving goals and making life changes – whether on January 1st or any other time of year. We have accumulated some ways and strategies to help you make the changes you want in the year
ahead – together with making the right resolutions to begin with. I hope you will read it, but more so, I hope you will apply them and inculcate them to your daily life so that the upcoming year truly becomes the best year of your life.
1. Know Your why: For any resolution to stick, it has to be aligned with your core values. We all want to achieve a lot of things, so many thoughts about them cross our heads, for example, looking better or getting richer, but your resolutions have to surpass the border line of just being superficial desires and connect with what truly matters most to you. In other words, as we mentioned above, you have to “Know your why” and feel strictly passionate about the goals you set for yourself. If you don’t, then when the going gets tough or your
alarm goes off at 5:30am, you won’t have the determination to stick to your plan. You have to connect your resolutions to those things that give you a sense of purpose and at the same time align with your core values.
2. Be specific: Random resolutions to ‘eat better, get fitter, be happier, relax more or have better life balance’ are fated for failure because they lack specificity. When it comes to sticking to plans, the more specific you are, it is more likely that you will be able to succeed. Be it just for your own sake but try to describe your goals and resolutions in ways that allow you to track your growth and development and also assess your success. For example, if you want to
build a better connection with your partner, try to have at least one date night per month, or, as I’ve decided with my better-half, one weekend away – without our kids - annually. Likewise if you’re committed to a better health and fitness regime, schedule specifically the number of days or workouts you’ll fit into each week.
3. Don’t Just Think It, Ink it: A Stanford University study found that when people wrote down what they exactly want to achieve, it increased the probability of them achieving it by over 70%. But, don’t just write down the specific goal, note down how you will feel when you’ve accomplished it. What you are going to do when you have achieved the goal. When
you have finished penning your desires, write them down on sticky notes, in particular the words that inspire you most about your goal and put them around your home/office to remind you of why you are dedicated to doing what it takes to bring your goal into reality.
4. Design Your Environment: Never underestimate the power of your environment to support or interrupt your success. Design your environment so that it’s hard not to do what you have decided. Create a improvement chart, have someone from your family and friends to be your cheer squad and celebrate your achievements, find someone to hold you accountable, hire a trainer, join a group, create a blog. Similarly, if there are people or things in your life that pull you down or off track, address them directly and set whatever boundaries to keep them away.
5. Narrow Your Efforts: Trying to do too many things at once can make you so unfocused and confused about what you really want and how you are going to achieve it. You won’t even realize which direction you are going in order to achieve the goal. So, set yourself up for success and start with JUST ONE MAJOR responsibility in the first few days. Then gradually, move up the ladder and break your goal down into small steps. Focus on these little steps rather than a strong start!
6. focus on The Process: It’s easy to get caught up in an early wave of eagerness, only to come crashing down when
your initial efforts don’t produce immediate and amazing results. So focus on the process itself, and develop greater ability of the actual activity, habit or skill you want to acquire. For instance, if you want to become fit, focus on being able to jog a little bit further every time you go for a walk, rather than being able to run 10 miles within a week. Remember, PERSISTENCE ALWAYS PAYS OFF. But, you have to never give in!
7. forgive Your failures: Your setbacks and failures will not define your success in the year ahead or any year. HOW YOU RESPOND WILL. If you happen to mess up, lose your determination, press the snooze button or revert to a familiar well-practiced behavior, don’t stress or beat up on yourself. It is okay, if you didn’t go to the gym like you’d planned. How about indulging in 5 minutes of stretching? When it comes to slipping up and tripping up, you are in good company. It happens to everyone. Just don’t let your mishaps, setbacks and failures mean more than they do. Reflect on the lessons they hold, make adjustments and alterations accordingly and get back in the saddle. Never forget that life rewards those who work at it.

If you have been diagnosed with a mental health ailment like anxiety or depression, the treatment typically comprises of emotional therapies and medication.
The lifestyle changes which tend to impact our state of mind are often less observed. Fortunately, with many now prioritizing mood and cognitive health as much as their physical health, mental health and the discourse around it, in current times is less stigmatized than it was in the past. Today mind fulness is equally valued as much as physical health. Even those not suffering from a cognitive health con dition may still look for effec tive ways to further take care of their mood, reduce stress, and accomplish day-to-day mental health.
As with physical health, nurturing mental health is an ongoing process; simple daily practices and lifestyle chang es can aid in this. Kanchan Rai, Mental and Emotional Wellbeing Coach, Founder - Let Us Talk mentions five lifestyle modifications to get you started:
Practice relaxation techniques: While sensory input can release stress in the mo ment, relaxation techniques facilitate to condense overall stress levels. Practices like meditation, yoga, deep inhalation and progressive muscle relaxation can help

what is manifestation, exactly?
Essentially, manifestation is bringing something tangible into your life through attraction and belief, i.e. if you think about that, it will come. However, there is more to manifestation than willpower and positive thinking.
To start manifesting, be clear about your goals. While everyone approaches manifestation differently, a well known researcher believes that most people follow the same basic principles. First—and perhaps most importantly—you need to know exactly what you want. You are the only one who dreams your dreams, so whether it’s a new partner and a healthy relationship or a better job, know it and own it.
Whatever you desire, though, one thing is essential: Make your intention as specific as possible. The more clear and concise, the better” Instead of, for example, saying, I want to meet my soul mate, develop a detailed picture of what that person would look like (think: qualities, characteristics, values, etc.)
once you’ve set your intention, ask for what you want—and write it down on paper.
When you’ve pinpointed exactly what your hopes, dreams, and goals are, you need to ask the universe for what you want. This can be done in a variety of ways— prayer, meditation, visualization, speaking your intentions out loud, a vision board and/or a “future box,” which is a container full of pictures of
items you want to manifest— but you need to say exactly what you want.
You can also write your intention down on paper. If you’ve spent any time on TikTok, you might be familiar with the 369 method—in which you write down what you want in the following order: three times in the morning, six times in the afternoon, and nine times at night for 33 or 45 days—but it can also be as simple as a letter to the universe.
And start working toward your goals.
Here are 11 little things to do every single day to manifest happiness in the year 2023:
1. Do what you love. This is a giveaway. After all, you don’t want to be doing
the things you hate.
Be sure to go with your pas sion and the things that bring you joy. You can always manifest good things from a place of joy.
2. show gratitude.
It’s not just about being grateful, but also about get ting into the energy of grat itude. Stay focused on what you do have and not what you don’t have.
3. listen to music and watch shows.
Yes, you read that right. I’m not talking about just any music and any shows. I’m talking about music and shows that activate positive things into your vibration for you.
Music and shows that put you into the feeling of what
you want to manifest. Music and shows that put you in a great mood!
4. Envision what you want as if you already have it. When you’re thinking about something that you want, replace “I wish I had it” with how it feels to actually have it.
A good practice is to do this right when you wake up in the morning or before you go to bed so that you begin and end your day with that energy.
5. write out affirmations.
Make your affirmations relevant to you. Whatever you need to say. Do not just write
with the right people. Surround yourself with people who believe in the world as you do. Surround yourself with people who can activate positive thoughts, ideas, and beliefs into your vibration.
There will always be “Negative Nellies,” but allow yourself to spend the majority of your time with “Positive
isten to your mind, body, You can usually manifest more of what you desire from a place of honoring
your wants and needs, rather than doing what you feel like you have to do. Obviously, there’s always balance.
There will always be things that you have to do. However, by consistently honoring yourself, you are sending off a message to the Universe that you are serious about what you desire.
9. Check your thoughts and words. Become mindful of the areas of your life that you want to improve. Check what you are thinking about and saying in
those areas of your life. Are your thoughts and words positive?
10. live luxuriously. Whatever it is that luxury looks like to you. If you are striving for luxury, start acting like what you have is luxurious. Because it is in perspective.
11. Do not deprive yourself. This does not mean to obsess over things and make poor decisions. Not at all. Again, there’s always balance.

In order to avoid this situation, it is important to remain aware of the red flags that indicate an imbalance of expectations in a relationship.
Here are the eight expectations that may be destroying your relationship --
Your partner will always make you happy.
No one person can ever make another person happy all the time. It’s simply not possible. So, expecting your partner to always make you happy is setting yourself up for disappointment. Instead, focus on finding happiness within yourself and being grateful for the times when your partner does make you happy.
Your partner will never make you angry or upset. Again, no one is perfect. So, it’s unrealistic to expect that your partner will never do anything to anger or upset you. What’s important is how you deal with those negative emotions when they do arise. Avoid saying things out of anger and try to see things from your partner’s perspec-
tive. Remember, fighting is not always a bad thing; it can help you resolve conflict and grow closer as a couple.
Your partner will always agree with you.
It’s healthy to have disagreements with your partner from time-to-time. It shows that you’re both able to express yourselves freely and aren’t afraid to stand up for what you believe in. Trying to always get your partner to agree with you is not only unrealistic, but it can also be suffocating.
Your partner will never change.
People change. It’s a natural part of life. So, expecting your partner to never change is setting yourself up for disappointment. Instead, try to accept the fact that people change and that your partner may change in ways that you don’t always agree with, just as you would too.
Your relationship will always be perfect.
No relationship is perfect. There will always be ups and downs. If you’re constantly expecting perfection from
In any relationship, understanding each other’s expectations is essential for maintaining a healthy and stable
bond. the trouble often arises when those expectations conflict with reality, creating a discrepancy that can eventually lead to frustration and resentment.
your relationship, you’re likely to be disappointed. There will be good times and there will be bad times but if you’re weathering the storms together, your relationship will be just fine. Focus on the good aspects of your relationship and try to work through the tough times together.
love should always feel like butterflies and rainbows: Love isn’t always going to feel like fireworks every single day. In fact, most days it’s going to feel ordinary. That’s okay! Love is still there even on the mundane days; it just might not feel as exciting as it does on those rare special occasions.
* Your partner will never make mistakes: We all make mistakes
and it’s important to remember that your partner is human too. Cut them some slack when they do something wrong and don’t hold their mistakes against them forever.
Your partner will always be available: One of the most common and harmful expectations people have in relationships is the expectation that their partner will always be available. Whether it’s for a date night or a last-minute emergency, expecting your partner to drop everything and be available whenever you need them is unhealthy and unrealistic. Everyone has commitments and obligations outside of their relationship, so it’s important to respect your partner’s time and space.

However, we could not help but notice that many Canadians brought their pet dogs to the beach with them to experience the spectacle of lights. Despite the efforts of wishing to show their dogs some bright explosions in the sky, many did not realize that fireworks can be one of the most traumatic events to experience for a dog.
One may question at this time, ‘Why is my dog afraid of fireworks?’. The loud noises that fireworks create, along with the unpredictability of when they will pop or be released leads to most dogs seeing them as a threat to their owner and personal wellbeing. As we react to the sound of a gunshot, dogs feel the same amount of anxiety and terror to the sound of a firework.
When suddenly hearing this sound, their fight or flight response system becomes activated. In this response system, just like humans, animals also experience symptoms of rapid heart rate, rapid breathing, trembling, tense muscles, shaking, sweating, aggression, dilated pupils, etc. Fireworks are a real anxiety-triggering and fear-triggering event for almost all animals. In some cases, the extremely loud sounds from fireworks can also cause irreversible ear damage to your dog, such as tinnitus or loss of hearing.
There are many methods, which can be applied to ensure the safety of your furry companion, when knowing that fireworks will inevitably be released that night. Ensuring that your dog is in a safe place is the key method above all. Placing them in a sound-proof room would be ideal; however, if this is not an option then a safe place can be created by shutting your curtains to eliminate visual aid, turning on the TV or radio to create a distraction from the loud popping noises of fireworks, giving your dog tasty toys as a distraction or applying a thun-

der shirt to your pet. Thunder shirts are known to be a great tool towards reducing anxiety in dogs and can be purchased at most local pet stores. In some cases, it is commonly known that many dogs will run away from home during the sounds heard from the fireworks. This is a motion drawn from their triggered fight or flight response system. Therefore, it would be wise to update your dog’s collar and tags to ensure that his return to you can be facilitated easily.
According to a recent study, certain dog breeds were noted to feel more anxious around the sounds of fireworks than others. These breeds included Cairn Terriers, Mixed Breed Dogs, Pembroke Welsh Corgis, Lagotto Romagnolos and Rough Collies. We hope that you were able to gather some insight from this month’s article on how to better help your pets and protect them from anxiety triggering events. For more information on the matter, we encourage you to contact your local veterinarian to be educated on more ways to help your dog feel comfortable.

article, we will be discussing the effects of fireworks on your pet dog.
1. Puff up those shoulders
Puffed powder shoulders and sleeves that are bold and extravagant reel in an element of confidence A you can never say no to. This trend can be embraced in any way, on shirts, dresses, or on statement making blazers and jackets. Try this trend with some bright colors, especially bright yellow, which was also a hit this season.
2. The bigger the bag, the better
Thanks to the popularity of tote
bags in the last couple of years, the favored types of bags are shifting from the smaller ones to big bags. These range from jumbo size hand bags to huge totes to also gym style duffel bags. Find the best match to your outfit and get strutting.
3. show some skin (on the ankles)
As the days and nights get colder, we often cover ourselves completely from head to toe, and for the right reasons. But the catwalks have inspired all of us to show some ankles by wearing hemlines on outfits, ranging from skirts to pants. This creates a very graceful and elegant look, and you have to try it for your next dinner party!
4.
The retro vibe in latest trends has been undeniable, and this trend plays on the vintage vibe heavily by introducing rug like capes that keep you warm while giving your body a unique silhouette of straight lines. If you are looking for a new coat this
season, our recommendation would be to switch to a cape altogether.
Neutral colors like beige, nude, mild browns, and all their stunning varied shades are once again the talk of the town: but to do it right there is a catch. To do the neutral look, you have to commit to it entirely and only wear shades of neutral beige. So, have some fun and play around with different shades and tints of the same color.
6. sequins in the sequence
This is no boring fall, and to match the heat you better line up some sequin-studded attires in your rotation. The runways showed us the way and now the streets have caught up, sequins are the best way to brighten up the winters that can sometimes get lazy and boring. Jazz up simple outfits with a statement piece full of shiny sequins, or find yourself a bold showstopper piece.
7. Hotter with the headgear
Hats and caps and scarves are all mandatory to finish your look this season because balance is key, and your look should be well put together and coordinated from head to toe. You can either go the basic chic route and coordinate your headgear, and if you want to be experimental you can make it the statement piece of your look.
While the trends are always here to guide you, fashion is always personal and intuitive. Jazz up every trend with your personal style, and always express yourself with your clothing choices.
As the runways have revealed the best of fashion, the hottest winter trends are quickly making their way to racks and hangers at stores. to make the best choices and pick out the hottest trends of this season, here is a guide to tell you what is ruling the world of fashion in the fall and winter of 2023.
As the nip in the air becomes more prominent each day and the holiday season approaches, everyone wishes to look their best with radiant, youthful skin. And what better way to do so than give yourself a winter makeover? Speaking of makeovers, in contrast to the cold weather, social media is being set ablaze with the “I’m cold” trend, a winter makeup look that’s taken the world by storm. And the best part, you don’t have to step out in the bone-chilling breeze to get that flustered look.
What is it?
With more than 25.4 million (and counting) mentions of the #ImColdMakeup, the seasonal makeup trend is inspired by the chilly winter days when your face is naturally flushed due to the cold weather and winds. The “I’m cold” makeup is all about enhancing this natural flush on your face, giving you a look that would resemble the one you’d have when you’re outdoors doing activities like skiing or sledding on days when the temperature is sub-zero.
To get this trend right Plabita Sharma, Head of Training, The Body Shop lists some steps for laying the foundation i.e prepping up the skin, and Aashriya Sharma, Brand Manager, Swiss Beauty further explains the steps for setting the makeup right for this look:
Start with the basic CTM: So, the basic routine of CTM (Cleanse, Tone, Moisturize) is a must. Wash your face with a facewash best suited for your skin type and tone it with a toner of your choice. A Toner brings your skin back to its natural acidic state, sweeping impurities away and helping your skin absorb your skincare products. The next and most important step is to moisturize.
A daily moisturizer is necessary to maintain your skin’s moisture barrier and to prevent environmental damage to your skin. A generous amount of moisturizer enriched with Vitamin C, E, or Hyaluronic Acid will ensure your skin remains supple and hydrated.
Protecting and adding a natural glow to your face: While some makeup products like foundation come with an SPF, there’s no beating the good old sunscreen to protect from the sun. This will also help in sticking your makeup while bringing a smooth finish to your
face. You can also use a luster finish illuminating cream highlighting the points or mixing it with your foundation that will leave your skin looking dewy just what the ‘Cold makeup’ look demands.
Blush for that natural flush: Blush is the showstopper here. It is all about the flushed look. So, pick one that goes well with your skin tone. If you don’t have one, you can also use a Lip and Cheek Tint. It is a quick makeup fix and can easily be used as lipstick, blusher, and even as an eyeshadow. Now, let’s look at the technical part. Instead of applying blush to your upper cheekbones for a lifted appearance, use it on the apples of your cheeks. Apply it as near to the nose as you can while still blending in a circular motion.
After this, dab a little blush on the tip of your nose and your chin’s tip. Next, pop a bit of highlighter in the inner corners of your eyes and on the tip of your nose.
Add depths to your lashes with mascara: Mascara is the real deal for those who like to go bold yet simple with eye makeup. Whether you are wearing eyeshadow or not, a coat of mascara will lengthen, thicken and intensify your natural eyelashes.
The voluminous lashes will further draw attention to your facial features. A quick and easy way to make your lashes appear fuller is to use the diagonal brushing technique with mascara. Coating the top and bottom lashes ensures the best hold while working
from the inner to the outer corners of the eyes for complete coverage.
Lastly, gloss your lips: Finish off with a lush pink or your preferred nude lip shade. Glide a creamy, pigmented lip shade over your lips, or use a Lip and Cheek Tint for that instant color pop. Follow with a gloss and gently dab it. This will create the perfect winter look with natural warm glossy lips.
The trending look is simple, natural, and completely imitates the flush that the cold temperature brings. All you need is some basic products - a blush, pink lip shade, or even a lip and cheek tint to rock this minimalistic look. So, get ready to slay your look this winter.
By: N. Lothungbeni HumtsoeBollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan has become the only Indian to be named in the list of ‘50 Greatest Actors of All Time’, released by Empire magazine.
Others who are named in the list include Hollywood stalwarts Tom Hanks, Robert De Niro, Denzel Washington, Natalie Portman and Bette Davis among many others.
Pooja Dadlani, Shah Rukh’s manager, took to Instagram to share the news.
She shared a clip of the article and wrote: “@iamsrk on

Shah Rukh in a career spanning over three decades has worked in iconic films such as ‘Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge’,
‘Swades’, ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’, ‘Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham’, ‘Mohabbatein’, ‘Veer-Zaara’, ‘Devdas’ and ‘Om Shanti Om’, among many others.
His next film ‘Pathaan’ has been surrounded in controversy ever since filmmakers released its first song ‘Besharam Rang’ a few days ago. Objecting to the lead actors’ costumes, many political outfits have threatened to stall the film’s release.

By: IANSBollywood star Ayushmann Khurrana, who was recently seen in ‘An Action Hero’ is a true blue Punjabi munda as he loves to indulge in food at all times. The talented actor-singer enjoys homemade food and Indian sweets made by his mother of which rajma-chawal, sarson ka saag, makki ki roti and gaajar ka halwa are his absolute favourites.
Given his shooting schedule, the actor has to constantly follow a regimented diet plan. However, the talented actor makes it a point to go back to his hometown Chandigarh every Diwali and year-end holiday, and during this time, he indulges in everything his mother makes for him.
Talking about the same, Ayushmann shared: “My mom and my motherin-law spoil me with my favorite dishes and I thoroughly enjoy it. It is tough for me to decide what I want to eat each day. Right from rajma-chaw-
al, sarson ka saag, makki ki roti, pinni to gaajar ka halwa - I like to eat all the delicacies that they make because they are simply divine. This holiday season I’m looking to get pampered in Chandigarh.”
He further spoke about the importance of spending quality time with family as he said: “I feel it is important to spend quality time with your family. One must always remember where one’s roots are and for me it’s Chandigarh. My parents and this beautiful city have shaped me into the person that I have become today. Despite being in Mumbai, I always feel a massive gravitational pull for my home.”
“I usually have erratic schedules because of shoots, promotions, brand deliverables etc and so, I make it a point to go back to my family in Chandigarh whenever possible, especially during the holidays. It is nostalgic and rejuvenating,” he added.

Aditya Rawal, son of veteran actor Paresh Rawal, who is set to be seen in the streaming series ‘Aar Ya Paar’, has shared that whenever his father watches his work they both sit together and analyze it bit by bit.
Aditya had earlier co-written the 2019 movie ‘Panipat’ and played the lead in the romantic action film ‘Bamfaad’. He is essaying the role of tribesman in the streaming series.
Talking about his bond with his father, Aditya said: “I often seek his advice on both acting and how to be an actor, which are two different things. I am incredibly lucky
to have access to someone with his knowledge and experience. The one thing I admire about him is his humility, and the fact that he is not driven by fame or power.”
He further mentioned: “He has, after all, been around for 40 years. It’s a long journey and I imagine it brings with it a sense of calmness. Whenever he watches my work we sit down and analyze it together. However, when it comes to the preparation for a specific character that I am playing, then I turn to the concerned director because it is with them that I will be creating the character.”
Buy smart: Stick to your list of needs and avoid impulse buying. Don’t buy in bulk, but make frequent trips to the grocery store instead and coincide it with your jogging schedule or biking time so the trips become fun! This’ll ensure you only buy what you really need.
store smart: Proper storage of foods will help keep them at their peak for longer. Not all foods need refrigeration - Potatoes, tomatoes, garlic, cucumbers and onions should be stored at room temperature. Some
fruits and vegetables produce ethylene gas that causes early ripening (or rotting) of foods that are sensitive to ethylene. These should always be stored separately. Foods that produce ethylene gas include bananas, avocados, tomatoes, cantaloupes, peaches, pears, green onions. Store them in separate bags and away from ethylene-sensitive foods like potatoes, apples, leafy greens, berries and peppers to avoid premature spoilage.
Refrigerate smart: Stock your fridge using the FIFO method (First in, first out). Place newly bought foods behind older ones. For example when you buy a new carton of berries, place the newer package behind the old one. This helps ensure that older food gets used, not wasted. Also when you’ve kept leftovers in the fridge, keep them in glass containers so you don’t forget about them.
smoothie smart: While the stems, ends and peels of many items may not be appetizing in their whole form, adding them to a smoothie is a way to reap their nutritional benefits. Spinach leaves and stems that turn soggy after just a day or two in the kitchen, can be stored in the freezer and be used to make a super healthy smoothie.
upcycle smart: Get innovative with leftovers and turn them into delicious sandwiches and rolls. Leftover white rice can be turned into delicious tomato rice the next day, or even a fried-rice, and leftover cooked vegetables can be used to make healthy parathas and sandwiches!
order smart: Be mindful of the quantity of food you order at restaurants. When you’re unable to finish, always ask for it to be packed to bring back home. Today there are multiple restaurants that have a special small-plate menu: an initiative that has effectively proven to reduce leftovers.
As we have stepped into the new year, we have undoubtedly drowned in the festive cheer and great food! the celebrations however are usually accompanied by a lot of wastage. we can be more mindful about our relationship with food by incorporating these small changes into our daily life to reduce food wastage:
The actor is renowned for adding people to his ever-growing list of recipients of the $50 White Chocolate Coconut Bundt Cake from Doan’s Bakery in Woodland Hills, Los Angeles, each December, reports aceshowbiz.com.
His friend James Corden, 44, has now claimed the actor has never tried the dessert, even though he said it is the “most extraordinary” one he has ever eaten.
Outgoing “The Late Late Show with James Corden” host James told the Heart Breakfast radio show on Wednesday: “It’s unbelievable, I would say almost everybody he meets who works on ‘The Late Late Show’ gets one of these cakes. It’s like our head writers, Ian and Lauren (get one) - you know, different people that he’s met.”
“He’s just so gracious and generous. But here’s the most amazing thing. He’s never tried it! On my life! I said
to him once, ‘This cake is the most extraordinary cake I’ve ever eaten in my life,’ and he went, ‘That’s what everybody says!’”
Cruise is said to have splashed at least $13,799 last year sending around 300 of the white cakes as presents, including shipping some from L.A. to Britain.
Created in 1984 by bakery founder Karen Doan, 79, the cake includes chunks of white chocolate, a layer of cream cheese frosting and is topped with toasted coconut flakes.
Along with James, famous faces to have received one include Kirsten Dunst, Henry Cavill, Rosie O’Donnell and Angela Bassett.
Cruise has said about his workout regime that stops him indulging in the dessert, “I love sugar, but I can’t eat it because when I’m training, I’m doing all these movies - so I send it to everyone. I wait for the calls, like, ‘Tell me about it.’” By: IANS

‘The Bard of Avon’ can never go wrong. The timeless Shakespeare, 400-plus years after he entertained Queen Elizabeth I and her courtiers, continues to resonate in different ways with each generation. And his ‘Comedy of Errors’ has been a favourite of Bollywood filmmakers.
After Kishore Kumar’s ‘Do Dooni Chaar’ and Sanjeev Kumar’s ‘Angoor’ and a few other forgettable adaptations, comes Rohit Shetty’s ‘Cirkus’, featuring Ranveer Singh playing two sets of identical twins who are accidentally separated at birth. Sadly, though, Bollywood is as bad at adapting as it is at conceiving fresh ideas.
So, what does the film have to offer? Old gags, insufferable jokes, bad acting and a plot that just doesn’t take off. Even when writers Farhad Samji, Sanchit Bedre and Vidhi Ghodgaonkar attempt to Indianise the much-amended tale, there’s nothing out there in terms of a creative twist in this over-twohour-long film.
Twins Roy and Roy (Singh) and Joy and Joy (Sharma) get separated at birth. Coincidentally, the two pairs get adopted by two different sets of parents -- one Roy is deliberately paired with another Joy and the other Roy with the other Joy in Ooty and Bengaluru, respectively.
From the basic premise, this should have been a laugh riot as the identical twins who live in different cities come together
and mistaken identity causes a host of ludicrous situations. The two sets of twins run into each other several years later, when they are coincidentally in the same town. Needless to add, misunderstandings reign supreme when people mistake one for the other.
One Roy works in a circus and is unaffected by electric currents, causing much awe and laughter among the audi-
ence. His act of holding naked electric wires has everyone enthusiastically applauding him for an encore. He earns his living professionally, but whenever his body touches an electric wire, his twin in another city feels the shock as the current flows through his tissues.
Short of getting electrocuted, the twin brother experiences the severity of the shock to such an extent that whoever comes in contact with him, feels it too. Now, that could have led to not one but numerous funny moments.
And though the writers do their best to introduce characters, such as the mothers (Ashwini Kalsikar and Sulabha Arya) and girlfriends Mala and Bindu (Hegde and Fernandes) to add to the mixups, chaos and disorder, all we have are pathetic example of poor writing skills and excruciatingly unbearable situations, so much so that even the gifted Ranveer Singh can barely salvage the film. His character repeats himself so often that he probably didn’t have to memorise his lines -- nor did he get any opportunity to deliver a dialogue impulsively.
From among the ensemble cast, which is comprised of veterans Tiku Talsania, Vrajesh Hirje, Mukesh Tiwary, Brijender Kala, Sanjay Mishra and Johny Lever, not one of them has a scene that could be described as hilarious, comical or mildly amusing.
Shetty, who has specialised in a certain kind of humour in superhits such as ‘Singham’, ‘Golmaal’ and ‘Chennai Express’, fails miserably in raising laughs. The only thing that works for the film is Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh’s sudden impromptu jig to ‘Current laga re’.
That’s the only ‘paisa vasool’ part of the film, which must go down as a massive wasted opportunity.

I tried very hard to realize that everything was ok. I asked Sam to take care of Nancy. I went to the washroom. My dress smells foul from my sweat. I took a shower. My heart was still beating like an engine. I recalled that my mom used to say that morning-dreams often come true. I was under a severe shock. I finished my shower. I was trembling badly. I was still sweating from fear. I came back to my bed and lay down. Sam and Nancy slept again but I kept tossing in the bed. Sam woke up at around 10 A.M. but Nancy was still asleep. Sam went to the washroom and took a shower. When he came out, I asked him to read Japji Sahib, the morning gurbani. He agreed and I gave him my small holy book to read. I remembered it by heart. Both of us spread
a towel on the floor, covered our heads with a piece of cloth and read Japji Sahib. After that, I performed ardas. Afterward I prayed for our happy married life and the welfare of all my family members.
Then I woke up Nancy and helped her get ready. We checked out of the hotel. We had breakfast in a restaurant. I felt sorry for Nancy again explaining the reason for morning trouble. Nancy expressed herself with a smile that she understood the situation. I told Sam my whole dream. He promised that he would always drive very carefully. He also assured me that he would always keep my concerns in his mind and avoid all sorts of risks. I felt relaxed a bit but couldn’t dare cast a smile. We left for home around 3 P.M. and reached home safely around 7:30 P.M.
Time was moving at its own pace. But, every second was dragging like a century for me
after our whistler trip. I always expected bad news any moment. I remained so scared all the time that I was afraid of feeling happy even on happy occasions. An unknown fear had completely engulfed me.
Time came and I gave birth to a baby boy. I was living under a continuous shadow of fear. I was stuck in superstitious beliefs. I knew it was affecting my health and my family life adversely. However, I was unable to escape from the bad frame of my mind. Meenu had asked me several times where my smile had gone. I had no reasonable answer.

Fruit is great for weight loss because it is low calorie, high fibre, and water content. Fruit is nature’s quick snack and is a great source of vitamins and other elements that help maintain a healthy diet.
fruit has vitamins and minerals that the body needs in abundance. According to Dr. Archana Batra, a dietician and a certified diabetes educator, “Many people consume fruit wrongly, which might cause more harm than benefit
if not corrected.” She also shares a list of mistakes one makes when eating fruit.
Combining fruit with anything else- Fruit breaks down faster than any other food. When combined with other foods, it can cause the
formation of toxins in the body known as ama. This is due to the fact that food pairing can slow down digestion. Fruit must stay in the stomach for as long as the heaviest food takes to digest, making nutrient absorption difficult. It begins to ferment in the digestive juices, which is usually toxic and may raise the possibility of illness and other health conditions. It is therefore preferable to consume it separately.
fruit at nighttime- It is best to avoid anything 2-3 hours before going to bed because it interferes with the digestive system. This holds true for fruit as well. Fruit consumption right before bed has a high chance of disrupt-

ing sleep because it releases a lot of sugar, which spikes energy levels when the body should be resting. At night, our ability to absorb and assimilate nutrients is significantly reduced. In addition, eating fruits late at night may cause acidity symptoms. Fruit should be consumed as an evening snack and no later than that.
Drink water immediatelyNot only children but also adults, are frequently observed drinking water immediately after eating fruit.
Drinking water after eating fruit can cause the pH level of the digestive system to become unbalanced, especially consuming fruit with a high water content like watermelon, muskmelon, cucumber, orange, and strawberry. This is because fruit with a lot of water in it can change the pH balance by reducing the acidity of your

By: IANSConsumer desire for wellness-focused vacations is on the rise, as seen in 2023’s wellness trends. The demand for domestic travel has increased by 50 per cent, according to CGH Earth Wellness Centers. Since before the pandemic, foreign visitors from regions like Russia and Europe have remained devoted customers.
Consumer insights, both from CGH’s diverse customer base and research, highlight the following big trends in the $1.5 trillion global wellness industry.
Restorative Travel and Healing Holidays Prevention is better than cure couldn’t ring truer. Rather than having to go for curative spells at a hospital, more and more people are turning towards traditional, holistic health. Classical Kerala Ayurveda & Prakruti Chikitsa - Indian Naturopathy has proven to have produced great results with regards to lifestyle disorders and other long-term health conditions.
Wellness is no longer considered a concept for the old. Centres are witnessing a growth in younger audiences for preventive healthcare.
Having seen an older generation who have had to be on lifelong medication for their lifestyle disorders, the young are now turning towards Naturopathy & Ayurveda as a means to prevent going down the same road. One is seeing a big change in the mindset of the younger generation who are emphasizing on clean eating, fitness and leading a more mindful existence. They are opting for wellness based getaways and self-healing journeys. Preventive health programs which are transformative are popular with the young-set. Curative programmes are more for the older generation and are typically need based. Gen Z is now looking for a drugfree, non-invasive approach to leading a more healthy and balanced life.
Renewed interest in Ayurveda post pandemic
The Kerala Ayurveda philosophy has been accepted worldwide for its immense benefits and the science and methodology of treatments. The Panchakarma treatment course that involves 21 days has helped people change their lives. Society, now at large is realizing the need for the responsibility of taking their health into their own hands, by tapping into India’s ancient wisdom of medicine that is globally revered and respected.
People are increasingly choosing Solo travel which helps them go through self-healing and a holistic transformational process. Being able to re-connect with nature helps solo visitors rebalance their lives and be in sync with their mind, body and soul. Solo Travel enables
people to set themselves on the right path to healthy living.
Investing time and money to travel for well-being
People are willing to allocate one break in the year completely dedicated to their wellbeing. They are also willing to spend more, if it means better year -round health and a more positive state of mind. From a traditional mind-set of pushing wellness to a later date, and a need-to-do basis, one is seeing a more proactive and a must-do approach.
serene Healing spaces are lending to the increase in wellness breaks
To be able to address one’s health but not feel like a patient in the traditional sense seems to be what is resonating with a vast number of people, especially those who have understood the importance of preventive healthcare and those addressing the onset of lifestyle disorders. Keeping one’s mind happy during a treatment course has been talked about in modern medicine as well, and healing spaces have become an important role in achieving a positive state of mind.
By: N. lothungbeni HumtsoeHyaluronic acid has recently become such a hyped ingredient, but the popularity is acceptable because the ingredient provides what it claims to - anti aging.
what exactly is Hyaluronic acid (HA)? It is simply a sugar that already exists in our skin tissues and with time and age, the content of it keeps on decreasing. It is that part of the skin which helps maintain and retain the moisture and keeps our skin hydrated. It is an extraordinary ingredient and a boon to skincare, says Rajat Mathur, Senior Education Manager at Kiehl’s India.
what does Hyaluronic acid do? Mathur explains...
The skin requires a certain amount of water for it to be healthy and look hydrated and radiant, but the skin tissues lose ability to retain the water with time and age resulting in the skin looking dehydrated and dull. Dehydrated skin, then results in wrinkles and fine lines which automatically make your skin look old, and it losses its firmness too. This is where Hyaluron-
ic acid steps in and works its magic. It is basically an anti-aging ingredient which does wonders for your skin. It revitalizes not only the outside layer of your skin but the tissues as well increasing the skin immunity, he says.
The damage that even the sun does to your skin can be tackled with hyaluronic. Fine lines are such a common effect of exposure to sunlight but using a product with HA in the morning can reduce the appearance of these fine lines and make your skin smoother and help you look younger all day. Similarly, using it at night will cause it to work it magic all night resulting a radiant skin when you wake up in the morning.
Mathur says: “Hyaluronic acid has become so trendy this past year and that is such wonderful news because it is an ingredient that is so important for the skin. People tend to put back the product on the shelf after reading the word ‘acid’ and that stigma shouldn’t be around skincare. Awareness regarding this ingredient is so important and products with hyaluronic acidshould be made a part of your skincare routine to maintain the glow and avoid dullness. It is an ingredient we have included in quite a few of our products here at Kiehl’s too because we want our consumers to fall in love with their skin every single day and HA will only make your skin look younger.”
Hyaluronic is a very important skincare ingredient which should be used in your routine regularly to keep the wrinkles and fine lines at bay and your skin glowing and radiant. The basic logic is that if your skin has enough hyaluronic, it will stay moisturized and look healthy but with age, it is necessary that we incorporate products that include this acid in particular to help you keep your skin youthful, glowing and healthy.

Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a common disorder that affects the large intestine. Signs and symptoms include cramping, abdominal pain, bloating, gas, and diarrhea or constipation, or both. IBS is a chronic condition that needs patience & persistence.
Contd. from last edition
Hence worse or more frequent signs and symptoms during periods of increased stress. But while stress may aggravate symptoms, it doesn’t cause them.
Hormones: Women are twice as likely to have IBS, which might indicate that hormonal changes play a role. Many women find that signs and symptoms are worse during or around their menstrual periods.
Chronic constipation or diarrhea can cause hemorrhoids. In addition, IBS is associated with:
Poor quality of life. Many people with moderate to severe IBS report poor quality of life. Research indicates that people with IBS miss three times as many days from work as do those without bowel symptoms.
Mood disorders. Experiencing the signs and symptoms of IBS can lead to depression or anxiety. Depression and anxiety also can make IBS worse.
There’s no test to definitively diagnose IBS. Your doctor is likely to start with a complete medical history, physical exam and tests to rule out other conditions. If you have IBS with diarrhea, you
likely will be tested for gluten intolerance (celiac disease).
After other conditions have been ruled out, your doctor is likely to use one of these sets of diagnostic criteria for IBs:
Your doctor may recommend several tests, including stool studies to check for infection or problems with your intestine’s ability to take in the nutrients from food (malabsorption). You may also have a number of other tests to rule out other causes for your symptoms.
Imaging tests can include: flexible sigmoidoscopy: Your doctor examines the lower part of the colon (sigmoid) with a flexible, lighted tube (sigmoidoscope).
Colonoscopy: Your doctor uses a small, flexible tube to examine the entire length of the colon.
X-ray or CT scan: These tests produce images of your abdomen and pelvis that might allow your doctor to rule out other causes of your symptoms, especially if you have abdominal pain. Your doctor might fill your large intestine with a liquid (barium) to make any problems more visible on X-ray. This barium test is sometimes called a lower GI series.
laboratory tests can include: lactose intolerance tests: Lactase is an enzyme you need to digest the sugar found in dairy products. If you don’t produce lactase, you may have problems similar to those caused by IBS, including abdominal pain, gas and diarrhea. Your doctor may order a breath test or ask you to remove milk and milk products from your diet for several weeks.
Breath test for bacterial overgrowth: A breath test also can determine if you have bacterial overgrowth in your small intestine. Bacterial overgrowth is more common among people who have had bowel surgery or who have diabetes or some other disease that slows down digestion.

Here are some tips on how to keep your furry friends warm and cosy in the cold months.
wrap them up in woolens: You just can’t imagine stepping outside without a sweater in the winter. The same applies to your pets. Choose from a variety of options available for your cats and dogs. Make sure you pick the right size and keep them warm while taking them out for a walk. In case you have rabbits and birds, you can cover their cages with a shawl, leaving a little space for aeration.
Keep them hydrated: The winter season lowers your pet’s want for water consumption. However, dehydration can be life-threatening for them. So, make sure their water bowls never remain empty. Keep a close eye on whether they are drinking adequate water or not. Always carry a water bottle while taking them out for walks.
Accidents indoors: Cold winters can result in unintentional urination inside the house.
Take them out often to relieve themselves. Holding pee for too long can cause urinary tract infections in your pets. You can consider potty training your pets indoors. Pee pads and pee trays can be used to make sure as an option. Ipsita Gupta, pet parent of a Labrador says, “During the winters, Mia sometimes ends up accidentally peeing in the house. I use a pet-friendly floor cleaner like ITC Nimyle, which is a 100% natural action floor cleaner made with neem that keeps the floors clean and also does not cause rashes on Mia’s skin, unlike other floor cleaners I’ve used before. Activated with the Power of Neem, Nimyle also has anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties.”
Arrange warm bedding: Never let your pet sleep on the cold floor during winter. Make sure they have warm and cosy bedding. Place the bedding in a warm spot, preferably where they sleep every day. Make sure the area is cleaned regularly with water and a pet-friendly floor cleaner. Unclean surfaces may lead to underbelly
rashes. Many pet owners use pet-friendly heaters and warmers to keep the room temperature controlled.
Keep their outdoor hours restricted to daytime: Try to keep your pets indoors, especially during the night. Go out for walks with them during the late morning hours. Being exposed to the sun during these hours will give them much-needed Vitamin D.
Check for hypothermia: If the temperature drops severely, your pet needs special attention. Ushija Asthana, pet parent of a dog Cooper and a cat Silver said, “The paws of your dog or cat need to be protected from the freeze as they aren’t covered by fur. If your pet is picking up their paws off the floor, it is a sign that the weather is too cold for them. In case there’s a drop in your pet’s body temperature, make sure you cover them up with warm blankets and feed them hot drinks like chicken broth.”
