In 1978, destiny brought him to Canada, as his father late Mr. Jai Kishan Sharma , an IFS diplomat, got his posting to the Consulate General of India, Vancouver Canada.

5 reasons

The secret to look good: Start why you are not losing weight eating fruits and vegetables

S

o you have been spending hours at the gym, and religiously trying out every diet you read about, but still not losing weight? Sometimes, the reason behind this could be as simple as not keeping track of what you are eating, even if it’s diet food. Here are a few reasons why you may not be shedding those pounds.

Losing it without realizing it It is quite common to see the scale reflect the same weight for a few days or weeks. However, that doesn’t mean you aren’t losing fat. Body weight keeps fluctuating because of factors like the food that you eat, hormones or water retention. Besides, it is possible to gain muscle at the same time as you lose fat. Use something other than the scale to gauge your progress. For example, measure your waist circumference and get your body fat percentage measured once a month. Also, how well your clothes fit and how you look in the mirror can be very telling. Not eating enough protein Protein is extremely important if you are looking to lose weight. If the amount of protein you consume is 25 to30 per cent of your total calorie intake, then you can boost your metabolism by 80 to 100 calories per day. Proteins also drastically reduce cravings and help prevent slowdown in metabolism and weight regain. Drinking sugar Sugary beverages are at the top of the list when it comes to reasons

behind weight gain. Our brains don’t compensate for the calories in them by making us eat less of other foods. But even if you have given up on colas and diet sodas, you can still gain weight from fruit juices or vitamin water, which are loaded with sugar. Instead, have whole fruits. Consuming too many calories You need to keep a track of the amount of calories you are consuming, even if it is healthy food that forms a part of your diet. Keep a calorie calculator handy and figure out how many calories you need to eat. Tracking

also helps if you are trying to reach a certain nutrient goal, like getting 30 per cent of your calories from protein. But don’t track calories like a hawk, do it for a few days to find out your consumption, and then adjust accordingly.

Yadwinder Sharma

Not lifting weights Lifting weights help you build muscle mass, which is often burned along with body fat if you are not exercising. Resistance training like weight lifting helps prevent metabolic slowdown, and also helps the body burn calories even when at rest.

How to relax the eyes with simple exercises Gaze into the darkness You might have done this inadvertently. But this time, do this consciously. Switch off the lights. Put your elbows on the table. Close your eyes and cup them with your palms. Now relax and gaze into the darkness. Do it for a couple of minutes.

S

itting in front of the computer or constantly checking your phone takes a toll on your eyes. Add to that the long working hours and your eyes feel tired and irritated. Fret not, we got you some simple eye exercises that will help you relax at the end of a particularly hectic day.

Side to side eye movement You can do this standing or sitting up straight. Look straight ahead. Now, without moving your head, look to the left. Focus on what you see. Then look to the right and focus on what you see. Move your eyes from side to side five times. Repeat the cycle three times. Up and down eye movement Sit up straight and look ahead. Then look up and focus on what you see. Look down. You can frown or

wrinkle your forehead. Look up and down five times. Repeat the entire cycle three times. Moving your eyes diagonally Look straight ahead. Now look down and to the left. Then move your eyes diagonally and look up, to your right. Focus on what you see. Repeat the exercise five times. Go back to starting position and do the same cycle in the other direction. Repeat the entire cycle thrice. Rolling your eyes Your habit of rolling your eyes might actually help you relax. Sit up straight in a relaxed position. Look to the left and slowly roll your eyes in a circle, clockwise. Repeat five times and then do it counterclockwise. Repeat the entire cycle thrice.

ating enough fruit and vegetables could be the secret to looking good and having attractive skin, according to a study released on Friday by Australian researchers. The researchers at the University of Newcastle, New South Wales, investigated how young Australians viewed faces in terms of attractiveness, by being able to adjust settings to create the most attractive version of different faces, based on levels of melanin (tanning), or carotenoid coloration which occurs when you consume fruits and vegetables. The author of the report, Kristine Pezdirc, told Xinhua news agency that the participants were given facial images to look at on computer screens, and then were allowed to adjust the axis to where they thought the image looked as “healthy as possible”. “They had three different experiments where they would look at the melanin axis, then they would look at the carotenoid axis, and then in the last experiment they were both combined, so that is where we got the result of seeing that they preferred the carotenoid to the melanin,” Pezdirc said. Fruit and vegetables contain certain pigments in them which according to Pezdirc, get absorbed by your skin when you are eating healthy amounts of them. “If you eat a lot of carrots, or other orange fruits, your skin colour can actually change in hue, the carotenoid in the actual pigmentation that changes the skin colour when you are eating these fruits and vegetables,” Pezdirc said. The researcher hopes that the results will influence young people to eat more fruit and vegetables as part of a healthy diet, as research shows they currently aren’t eating enough. General expert consensus worldwide suggests that people should eat at least five servings of vegetables, and two servings of fruit per day, as part of a healthy diet.

Thugs Of Hindostan is not inspired by Pirates of Carribean: Aamir Khan

Says ‘Working With Vishal Bhardwaj Will Be Challenging’

A

ctress Deepika Padukone is back to Mumbai after attending the 70th Cannes Film Festival. The 31-year-old actress is now ready to collaborate with filmmaker Vishal Bhardwaj for his next project. Speaking to news agency PTI, Deepika Padukone said that working with the 51-yearold director will be ‘extremely challenging.’ “I haven’t worked with him yet so I can’t talk much. But as an audience I can say it is fascinating to see the kind of films he does. As an actor I would love to work with him. It will be extremely challenging and very exciting to be working with him,” PTI

quoted Deepika as saying. Deepika Padukone will reportedly portray the role of mafia queen Rahim Khan, popularly known as Sapna Didi, in the film. Irrfan Khan, who also features in the lead role, will be seen playing the role of a local gangster in Vishal Bhardwaj’s next venture. The film will be directed by Honey Trehan. This film will mark Deepika Padukone’s second collaboration with Irrfan Khan. They have previously worked together in Shoojit Sircar’s Piku. Deepika Padukone made her red carpet appearance at the 70th Cannes Film Festival on May 17 and 18. From the sheer one

shoulder marchesa gown or the Brandon Maxwell green dress, the Cocktail actress mesmerized everyone with her style quotient. This year Deepika Padukone made her Hollywood debut with xXx: Return of Xander Cage opposite Vin Diesel, Meanwhile, Deepika Padukone is currently shooting for Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmavati, co-starring Shahid Kapoor and Ranveer Singh. The film is scheduled to release in theatres on November 17.

Farhan Akhtar And Disha Patani Set To Go On A Honeymoon?

efore you guys think anything further, let us just make it crystal clear that there’s nothing brewing between Farhan Akhtar and Disha Patani. Neither are they going honeymooning. The duo is coming together for a film titled Honeymoon. Farhan Akhtar is not just a multitalented actor but he’s even the most charming man in the industry. His female fans just can’t stop drooling seeing him on the big screens. Ashutosh Gowariker has moved on to his next project after his last directorial ‘Mohenjo Daro’. According to reports, the film is a thriller about a newly-married couple and the makers plan on calling it Honeymoon. Yes, Farhan Akhtar and Disha Patani have been brought in together for director Ashutosh Gowariker’s next. The source has given a brief idea to the leading daily with regards to the concept of the film. The source was quoted saying as, “Ashutosh’s next film is a thriller about a newlywed couple.

It’s a performance-driven film. The makers have zeroed in on a title already. They plan to call it ‘Honeymoon’. The film is slated to go on floors soon, sans the film’s leading lady, if need be.” The problem is Disha Patani is quite excited about this project but at the same time she is not sure of signing it as she is waiting for the confirmation on Karan Johar’s film ‘Student of the Year 2’. About it the source further said,

ollywood star Aamir Khan refuted rumours that his upcoming film Thugs Of Hindostan being inspired by the Johnny Depp starrer Hollywood flick Pirates of Caribbean. At a media meet after participating in chat show Dangal Dangal Baat Chali Hai with the whole cast of his mega blockbuster Dangal, Aamir was asked about the similarity and he said: “The film is not inspired from any other film. It is an action adventure film but the story is not similar. “There are some hundreds of action adventure films. There is Pirates of Caribbean, there is Indiana Jones and many others. All these are action adventure films. So the genre of our film is action adventure but the story is different. Even my character in the film is not similar to any other character.” Thugs of Hindostan is directed by Vijay Krishna Acharya and star Aamir, Amitabh Bachchan, Katrina Kaif and Fatima Sana Shaikh in lead roles. “We are starting the shoot for Thugs of Hindostan in June. Fatima is the heroine of the film. I am very happy as she is a very good artist, she suits the role,” he said. With Dangal doing great business in China, the actor said he good films do not have any language or culture barrier and have a global connect. “I suppose people have loved the film. These kind of films do not have any language or culture barriers. These are human stories which connect to everybody, irrespective of their language or region. So this is the beauty of creative things... that they do not have any national or political boundaries.” Asked whether he is receiving any messages from his Chinese fans, he said: “I am getting many messages from China, the way they are reacting on social media as well is making me very happy.”

“Disha has caught the fancy of several banners, but she is opting out of most big projects as she is waiting for Dharma’s ‘Student of the Year 2’, which she thinks will happen soon. She has definitely spoken to Ashu, but not signed the film yet.” But if at all she signs ‘Honeymoon’, do you guys think Farhan Akhtar and Disha Patani will make a great onscreen pair? It would be interesting to see.

cover story

How I find

success with 1 simple rule

B

ut the problem with these overnight successes is that you never get to hear the back end story. The only thing you get to hear is that they did it so quick and you should too. The process is eliminated from the story. These stories lead us to believing that we need to wait around for our defining momentto have a breakthrough.

Transformation and overnight success gets a ton of hype. I mean it makes sense, everyone wants big results in short spans of time.

But here’s the truth... Take it from me, someone who was bullied for most of her elementary/ high school years, had low-self-esteem and did not believe in herself a single bit. Changing my life around was entirely in my hands and there was absolutely no way I was going to wait around for “a defining moment.” I wanted to become a type of person who lived my life with strong standards, who believed in herself, someone who could be counted on by people that I cared about. Now this was a whole lot of transformational change that I was willing to take on. The only problem was, I didn’t know where to start. Nevertheless, a f t e r months

cover story and months of reading psychology books, I took on the identity recognition approach. It is known to be true that to change yourself, you need to believe new things about you. When you take on a certain identity, your behaviors change to support that new distinctiveness. For example, an Olympic athlete attaches his/her personal identity to being strong, athletic, best in the sport, inspirational and utterly disciplined. It is important to note that because they recognize strongly with this identity, they’re able to navigate through life and make great decisions without having self-doubt. The personal identity they have for themselves pushes them to (1) workout on a consistent basis, (2) eat healthy foods, (3) carry out

www.saentertainment.ca

behaviors of a public figure and (4) always take actions that will inspire the population around them. The good news is, you can do this too. All you need to do is pick a target of how you’d like to see yourself in the future and start behaving in ways that support your future reality. This can work in each area of your life; health, wealth, love or sheer happiness. For me personally, I picked first lady Michelle Obama as an inspiration. Following are the admirable traits that gravitated me towards her: (1) Strong Character: Mrs. Obama’s ability to motivate, inspire and call others to action on social issues is extremely commendable. Her courage to stand alone has allowed her to fight for social issues regardless of how controversial they were. (2) Self-Confidence: She believes in herself so deeply that others around her get moved by her vision for the future. (3) P e r s e v e r a n c e : Mrs. Obama is the first African-American First Lady in U.S. history. Though she was discriminated against, she stayed put with her vision and

/saentertainmentnewsmagazine

@ansalmedia

pushed through all the adversity. (4) Relatable to others: Though she was a political leader’s wife, Obama spoke from her heart, she allowed the world to see her for who she really was as she shared her strengths and weaknesses with the world. Having an inspiration to look up to allowed me to reverse engineer my mindset and behaviors. Overtime, I tweaked all aspects that I did not appreciate about myself and substituted them with aspects that I inspired to have. The identity recognition approach has brought many changes in my life. I have been able to become a change agent for South-Asian women in our society,

/saentertainmentnewsmagazine

/saentertainment_news_magazine

become a motivational speaker, a fantastic conversationalist and a mentor for youth at risk in our society. I take pride in being a woman of colour and winning Miss Lower Mainland 2017. It has given me the opportunity to serve more than 60% of the population of British Columbia and help inspire others around me to push themselves to accomplish greater goals.

A Girl in a Whirl Contd. from previous issue (Part 11) I kept quiet, just put my head in mom’s lap and lay there. Mom began caressing my head. I felt those moments so precious as some last breaths of my life. I wanted to enjoy myself with all the comforts of my life in those few moments. I don’t remember when I slept right there. I woke up when I heard Raj and Jassi talking to my mom. They with their mothers had come to see me. Mom was sitting near my head. “Well Sonia! Have chats with them. I’ll bring tea and snacks for you. And Sonia, Sam had called you.”, mom said and went down stairs. “Let’s also accompany you.”, my both aunts offered my mom their services. “It’s alright, sisters. Have a chat with Sonia. I and Meenu will be back soon with tea and snacks.”, My mom replied and both of them sat near me. “What did your parents decide?”, Raj asked me. “Sonia, first call Sam, then we’ll talk.”, Raj’s mom said to me. She was very wise and well educated. I called Sam, “Yes, I’m fine…we have some guests here…I’ll call you later.”, I disconnected the phone.

Then I shared with them all the conversation briefly that I had with mom and dad. “Your mom is absolutely right, Sonia. Parents don’t share many things with their children because they want their children to focus on their study properly. Every home has almost similar problems – somewhere more and somewhere less. Don’t take it to your heart too seriously. Everything will be ok with time. We have raised you girls like our sons. Never ever quit.”, Raj’s mom explained to me. “Daughters have to struggle a lot to build and maintain their nests, Sonia.”, Jassi’s mom said. Jassi’s mom was completely rustic and illiterate. But she was very nice. Her accent had remained unchanged despite living in Ludhiana for several years. Jassi’s dad didn’t have any good qualification and he was working in Dubai for the last thirty years. He had worked very hard and helped Jassi and her younger brother to get good education. Jassi’s elder brother was never interested in studies. Therefore, his father had taken him to Dubai and helped him get a job there with him. “Honey! What I have gone through with my in-laws, I wish nobody had the same fate. It’s very hard for a bride to live in a big joint family of in-laws, especially when her husband is abroad.”, Jassi’s mom narrated almost all her tragic story. “God bless your mom and Raj’s mom who always gave me moral support and helped

me go through all sorts of bad times. God knows what would have happened to me and my children without their help. I’m highly indebted to both of them for my whole life.”, Jassi’s mom said and her eyes welled up. Raj’s mom patted her to quiet down. “Jeeto, we are here not to tell our stories. We have come to strengthen Sonia to face her situation.”, Raj’s mom explained her. “It’s alright, aunt. I have learned a lot from aunt’s story too.”, I said truthfully. “Do we ladies, married to husbands working in Dubai, have any life? I’ve been married for twenty-six years. Hardly have we lived together for two and a half years. I got badly crushed under the responsibilities of my husband’s siblings and parents!”, Jassi’s mom exclaimed. “Hello everyone! Come downstairs and have tea, please. Mom says it must be a bit cold up there. Come and enjoy tea with fritters and samosas.” Meenu changed the atmosphere with her chirpy voice. How cool it would be if we remained ignorant of the reality of life forever. How nice it would be if our reality were as beautiful as our dreams. I wished we always remained cheerful as our Meenu was. “O’ god! Please keep my sister, Meenu, safe from all bad intentions of onlookers. I prayed that not even my musing become a bad omen for Meenu.” Contd. in next issue

I love listening to music

R

&B, rock and roll, symphonic, rhythm, blues, jazz, classic or modern does not matter to me, I love the sounds of the instruments and the vocals. Music is strong, powerful and connective. It allows one to recall events, while bringing up emotions, and moving one both physically and emotionally.

www.saentertainment.ca

Think of the music behind the story line in movies and the impact it has in making or breaking the mood. Many listen to their music loudly, preferring to almost feel the music, get pumped up or energized. Musicians spend many hours practicing their art. We do not

discuss the hazards to this art form to the hearing mechanism. Hearing health needs to be a lifelong success as a musician. The musician as well as the listener, can cause a permanent noise induced hearing loss (NIHL) if not careful. Such danger is constant. NHIL is preventable. You must avoid overexposure to loud sounds, especially over a long period of time. This is why many of the cell phones have a warning on them when listening to music via earphones or buds. The closer you are to the sound source, the increased risk of hearing loss. Sounds over 85dB (i.e. vacuum cleaner) cause the greatest risk of permanent loss. This increases with volume and length of time. Consider the following strategies jason to assist in the cheema reduction of permanent damage thus enjoying your music for a lifetime. Whether using either an acoustical or electrical instrument, practice at safe volume. Use earplugs or earmuffs to protect your hearing. There are custom hearing protectors made especially for musicians which are high quality.

/saentertainmentnewsmagazine

/saentertainment_news_magazine

Learn that you need to take care of your hearing health not just when practicing your instrument but also when in the car, at a concert or watching television. When utilizing headphones, keep your monitor levels low. This not only helps you to continue to enjoy your music but others as well. If someone can hear the music through your earphones/ buds your loudness needs to be turned down. Know and understand when you are experiencing listener fatigue, take a break. Understand the acoustics of the room you are performing in and practicing in. Different venues have different acoustics. Consider an in-ear monitor (IEM) to replace wedge systems. IEMs reduce the risk of hearing damage when coupled with a reduction of monitoring levels. Some of the strategies do cost you in the short term; however, if you want to hear the music in the long term, the price is worth it. If you need to raise your voice to talk over the music, it is too loud.

Come give us a visit at JC Optical & Hearing so we may assist you in hearing the sounds of music for a lifetime.

Mumbai Indians beat Rising Pune Supergiant, win third IPL title

A

s Mumbai Indians and Rising Pune Supergiant drew curtains on the tenth edition of the IPL, it was the Rohit Sharmaled side which prevailed in the thrilling ‘Maharashtra Derby’ at the Rajiv Gandhi International stadium in Hyderabad and thereby became the first team to lift the IPL title thrice. Courtesy of a clinical bowling performance and some decisive batting Mumbai Indians won the match by just 1 run. After winning the toss Rohit Sharma chose to bat first on a slow Hyderabad wicket. His decision proved right as the pitch became slower as the match progressed and batting became difficult. Chasing 130 to win, RPS were in the hunt until the last over when Mitchell Johnson bowled tightly and defended 11 of the last over. MI have been in incredible form this season and they continued to show that in

the finals. While the batting has been their strong point, it was the bowlers who put up a spirited performance to guide MI to a victory. Mitchell Johnson was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 3/26. He was ably supported by Jasprit Bumrah. Meanwhile, the shot selection from some of the Pune batsman left a lot to be desired. Only Steve Smith stood out with a gritty 51 from 50 balls which featured two fours and two sixes. None of the other batsmen gave him company in the middle and frequent wickets only increased the pressure on his side. While Pune did not lose wickets at regular intervals, what they failed to do was take the attack to the opposition. None of the batsmen took the attack to the bowlers and the average strike of the batters hovered around 100.

6 Mistakes to avoid before buying a home

B

efore deciding which house to buy, think about your lifestyle, your current and anticipated housing needs, and your budget. It’s a good idea to create a prioritized list of features you want in your next home – you’ll soon discover finding the right house involves striking a balance between your “must-haves” and your “niceto-haves.” I want to bring your attention to some mistakes home buyers make while buying a house. My purpose of highlighting these mistakes is to make buyers, specially first time home buyers understand the home buying process in a better way, and avoid making these mistakes. Mistake #1. Not Getting Pre Qualified for a Mortgage Before looking for your next home take the time to get pre qualified by the bank or mortgage broker you choose. This can save you hours of searching for homes in the wrong price range or worse, purchasing a home and then finding out you don’t qualify for financing. Pre-qualifying gives you Peace of mind helps narrow your search criteria and most importantly, gives your Realtor a negotiating edge by being able to alleviate the sellers concern over financing. In today’s hot market the buyers with pre-approved mortgages have a huge edge in case

of multiple offer situations.

decision.

Mistake #2. Not Shopping For Mortgage Terms Rates are negotiable! Banks will sharpen their pencils to get your business especially if you have a good credit rating and bring other business to them e.g. RRSP’s, general account, savings etc. Posted rates should be viewed as a starting point. You need to know what the best rate is and this is usually done by get competitive quotes. Also, ask whether the bank will cover appraisal fees, and about buy-out fees, penalties, payment options, portability etc. The time spent can save you thousands of dollars over the life of the mortgage. Get yourself fully educated with all your mortgage options before you make a

Mistake #3. Not Using A Professional Real Estate Agent. Your realtor can help you make a purchase with the least amount of problems. He or she can ensure the price you pay is market value. They can offer expert advice on what to look for, conditions to include, negotiation strategy etc. After all, they work for you. In this competitive market an expert realtor can help you to close the deal easily, rather than you making phone calls to all the for-sale signs you see on roads. Remember listing agents are working for home-seller not for you.

3D human lung model to shed light on respiratory diseases

U

sing pluripotent stem cells, researchers have developed a 3D model of the human lung that could advance our understanding of a variety of respiratory diseases. The researchers used the new lung

“organoids” -- tiny 3D structures that mimic features of a full-sized lung -to generate models of human lung diseases in a lab dish. By reproducing an organ in a dish, researchers hope to develop better models of human diseases, and

find new ways of testing drugs and regenerating damaged tissue. “Researchers have taken up the challenge of creating organoids to help us understand and treat a variety of diseases,” said lead investigator of the study Hans-Willem Snoeck, Professor

at Columbia University Medical Centre in the US. “But we have been tested by our limited ability to create organoids that can replicate key features of human disease,” Snoeck said. The lung organoids created in Snoeck’s laboratory, however, include branching airway and alveolar structures, similar to human lungs, according to a study published in the journal Nature Cell Biology. To demonstrate their functionality, the researchers showed that the organoids reacted in much the same way as a real lung does when infected with respiratory syncytial virus (RSV). Additional experiments revealed that the organoids also responded as a human lung would when carrying a gene mutation linked to pulmonary fibrosis. Respiratory syncytial virus is a major cause of lower respiratory tract infection in infants and has no vaccine or effective antiviral therapy. A lung transplant is currently the only cure for idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, a condition that causes scarring in the lungs. “Organoids, created with human pluripotent or genome-edited embryonic stem cells, may be the best, and perhaps only, way to gain insight into the pathogenesis of these diseases,” Snoeck said.

Researchers develop air purifier that also generates power

R

esearchers in Belgium have developed a device which, when exposed to light, can purify air and at the same time generate power. “We use a small device with two rooms separated by a membrane”, explained Professor Sammy Verbruggen from the University of Antwerp and KU Leuven (University of Leuven). “Air is purified on one side, while on the other side hydrogen gas is produced from a part of the degradation products. This hydrogen gas can be stored and used later as fuel, as is already being done in some hydrogen buses, for example,” Verbruggen said. The heart of the solution lies at the membrane level, where the researchers use specific nanomaterials. “These catalysts are capable of producing hydrogen gas and breaking down air pollution,” Verbruggen said. “In the past, these cells were mostly used to extract hydrogen from water. We have now discovered that this is also possible, and even more efficient, with polluted air,” Verbruggen added. The device must only be exposed to light to function, according to a study published in the journal

ChemSusChem. The researchers said their goal is to be able to use sunlight more efficiently, as the processes underlying the technology are similar to those found in solar panels. The difference here is that electricity is not generated directly, but rather that air is purified while the generated power is stored as hydrogen gas. “We are currently working on a scale of only a few square centimetres. At a later stage, we would like to scale up our technology to make the process industrially applicable. We are also working on improving our materials so we can use sunlight more efficiently to trigger the reactions,” Verbruggen said.

FATHER SON RELATIONSHIP –A distinguished one

Don’t be afraid of playing a little raucous: Teens and young adult [between 20 to 39 years] being young, love anything that is challenging, activeand may be hard and life threatening. As a father/parent you have to keep them safe, but you can take some very small and calculated risks to give them a more physical experience. Later in life, this may translate into watching activities like wrestling, skateboarding, kabbadi, ice hockey and field hockey. Get involved in father-son activities: As a father normally, I found myself getting closest to my son as we enjoyed playing cricket and chess together. We still watch cricket together, though he is now young adult and a Physician in the making and eat outside together and just generally like being together.

My father gave me the greatest gift anyone could give another person – he believed in me from the core of his heart. This helped me to fight well and find my moorings in time.

father’s desire for a son is usually nothing but the wish to duplicate him so that such a noteworthy pattern of DNA lives in future. The only exception is a bad habit/vice in a father, which is never wished by him to be in his son. For example a drug-addict never wants that his son should follow his footsteps. The father-son relationship can be a complex one in patches. Fathers and sons with widely different interests can find it hard, more often, to relate to one another. They may have different passions, age group and different hobbies. Do not forget both are

together outdoors to watch field hockey, wrestling et al and spend time together doing something we both enjoyed. Needless to add that our relationship grew by leaps and bounds and strengthen like a welded joint .

males and nurse male egos. Some may follow a fathers’ profession or same family business. It is very much possible, a third generation businessman’s son may become a doctor or a doctors’ son may become an actor. Likes, dislikes and tastes do differ. Father and a Tween: It is not flesh and blood but the heart which makes us fathers and sons. A recent research suggests that a father’s love and acceptance are at least as important as the love and acceptance of a mother. To deal with a Tween, roughly ages 8-14 years, a fathers’ best strategy is a strong relationship, clear limits, discipline, utmost care and lots of empathy. 1. Father and a Teenager Son: Never forget that both are grown up. In this stage, more often, dads and sons feel competitive against each other. Sometimes their male tendencies to not communicate feelings are compounded, as both want a better fatherson relationship but both are inexperienced to go about it. Whenever, I think about my own relationship with my son, the thought process forcefully make me to experience a sense of deja vu about my relationship with my own father; and visualize how , many fathers and sons interact with one another, over the years. Key points that go a long way to create and build a strong father-son relationship:

@ansalmedia

Remember that a son is always influenced by his father: A son always learns about being a man primarily by watching his father. A father’s influence on his son’s personality development is often unnoticed but it is deep and real. As a young man watches his father interact with his mother, he learns about respect (or disrespect); about how men and women interact and about how men should deal with conflict and difference of opinion. As he watches his dad interact with other men at large, he will learn how men talk, how they relate with one another and how they deal with manly issues. Understanding that a father’s influence on his son is unmatched will help daddy think more deeply about his relationship with his son and take that relationship more seriously and without fail.

Encourage a son to take on a big project: A boy, being a boy, loves taking a challenge and being involved in something bigger than him. My son took a carpentry subject in his school and later on he expressed a desire to do the lamination of the house. Though I thought, project is very big and nearly damn difficult to execute, yet I side with him. And the work started. This project really helped a father and son bond together. When his job was appreciated by a professional, he experienced pangs of ecstasy and was at cloud nine.Even a small project of cutting the grass dovetails further bonding of the relationship. Whatever it is, a bigger than life project done together can create a bond that will last a long time and make memories you will talk about together for decades. Be a good listener to your son[s]. Generally men seem to struggle with effective communication in patches. A father should listen to the son about the issue and solution offered by him; then offers the suggestion[s] and deliberate and hammer out a fix. If a father listen to his son[s] in their earliest ages without judgment and without trying to fix things too soon will go a long way to build a lasting relationship.A fee flowing advise all the time, passing judgments and helicopter parenting is what the sons hate in common. Mind it. Look for opportunities to be with your son[s]when you can be a good listener. Going to a sporting event, or taking a road trip can all be effective ways to create a listening environment. Experts say that spend only 25% of the time talking and spend the rest in an active listening mode.

Father- son must develop common interests: This is a lesson I learned from my own father. He played a lot with me via home sports and enjoyed time with me.He used to say no to his Prof. Surinder friends to be with me. But one thing we both Shaun Kochhar came to love was reading LPN, FCN, M.Com, CAIIB, DIM (A freelance writer with and we found some 36 Years Exp.) real commonality in visiting the library, in the vicinity. He used to read various newspapers and discuss current news and politics and I used to read Film fare and Illustrated weekly of India by late Sr. Khushwant Singh Ji. When we started to maximize our time

Those who love their children, must care enough to discipline them in their formative years, the game may be lost otherwise ; and you are a hapless and helpless parent, to see your budding flower lost in the quagmire of drugs, crime or violence. www.saentertainment.ca

relationship A father may not carry his son now –when the son is grown up- in arms, but he always carries him in his heart.A son may give many reasons to be proud of, but the proudest moment, a father experiences is when he tells others that, you know that doctor/engineer or artist ismy son. A father wants to be known to the world as his son’s father. A father loves a son now and forever. A son realizes,in more depth, when he becomes a father. Surinder Shaun Kochhar

Many dads speak 80% of the time and conflict happens repeatedly. Don’t be afraid of the big talk. Develop a strategy and the right time to discuss with your sons about sex and relationships. Being open to having these conversations will help your sons to primarily developbetter attitudes about sex and girls in general. Good thing is, in our area sex education is provided at the school level. Bad thing is, with the ever-increasing presence of sex in the media, on the cell phone/computer and in conversations with their peers/friends, a father will find his relationship not as strong as it should be. A father should notlet his son develop his attitudes about sex and relationships from other sources who may not pursue hisfamily values. Inculcate positivity in your son: Our children/sons daily experience negativity. Guide him to survive like a lotus in a quagmire of criticism/unmerited firing. By watching commercials on television a son may feel a sense of inadequacy in him as he may not be strong; may not have six pack abs or be not quite as good looking

as the guys they see on television. A father need to catch them doing things right and communicate his timelyapproval and celebrate their accomplishments. A constant reinforcement from father/ parents will help build relationship of trust and help the son to open the umbrella of patience so that the rain of negativity does not affect him and thereby handle barrage of negativism that they confront daily, in a productive way. Spend time with your son: In case you are blessed with more than one son or one son, talk to the son[s] in camera i.e. one on one; in the light of the fact that as a father, you need to make time for individual relationships with each child. So make sure that you program some one on one time with your sons. It is possible that one of your sons likes acting and other one is a sportsman of repute. Some of the best memories, later on, will be the time spent together including the travel time. Work on the spiritual feast: In case the family believes in Gods’ existence, helping a son to be grounded spiritually is an

important role for a father. Whatever your faith tradition, help your son understand the deeper meaning of life. If you don’t have a faith tradition, help him reach for his inner self and try to have a perspective that will help him look at things deeper than on the surface. As a young man gets in tune with nature, God and himself, he will have a pattern in his life that will help him endure hardship and thrive personally. Fathers can have these conversations with their sons in a natural way as they share thoughts and feelings about life, manhood and spiritual things. Strained -Father Son Relationship: There can always be a struggle between a father and son, while one aims at power and the other at independence; A father who does not teach his son his duties is equally guilty with the son who neglects him. Good fathers make good sons. Nowadays sons are very conscious of their rights but are deficient in their duties towards their parents though exceptions are there. Social media is proving a great villain for all relationships. Sons having a lack of relationship with their fathersmay often affect their careers or relationships . The unexpressed hurt and anger often transfer onto our love relationships, parenting, challenges at work, and problems with authority. That means it has a cascading effect. In some cases sons have unpleasant

memories of abuse at the hands of their father under the garb of discipline Conclusion For a father a child is never grown up. That’s why he keeps on guiding/advising a son at micro and macro level and a son, on occasions, get irritated on that. It’s a good thing when a father and son can share the same experience. For example, to go together on a long drive, on vacation, watching movies, sports and take a project. Definitely, it results in better bonding. Every father does not get a chance to start his son off in his own footsteps. My father didn’t tell me how to live; he lived, and showed me the way, a proven path indeed. Always remember a son has his own destiny. A positive work by parent can definitely help, but his stars will play the primerole. Hands that help a son to walk the first steps of life, when get wrinkled -as age is the biggest enemy of good health- see towards a son as a helper of the last resort. If a son does not take care of his aging father/ parents in the last phase of their life, then a father really feels bankrupt in a relationship that was distinguished and most close to the heart. Unfortunate those, like me, who do not have a father now, ask them what the value of a father in life isand how badly they miss it. Those who have a reverend father must respect him as this gift of God is not forever.

relationship Our parents, in many cases, leave soon and our kids and spouse come along late in our lives, but our siblings -a brother or a sister- are the only relativeswho are with us through the entire circle of our lives, though exceptions apply.

Because a sister has a brother, she always has a best friend in her life. She loves him more than the distance between them. And yet their reunion,on occasions, bring thrill in them -more than a reunion -with very close friends.

A

BROTHERS AND SISTERS

brother sister relationship is one of the most balanced relationships, I have ever experienced. Even now, as most of us, are separated by thousands of miles and aren’t able to physically see each other for most days of the year, I still feel more connected to them as ever. We may not speak all that often; we may not text at all, but I still know that he/ she is always there for the other one. Approximately four out of five grow up with a brother or sister. On medical front, most siblings only share approximately 50 per cent of the same genes, Prof. Surinder but the lifelong and perennial Shaun Kochhar connection they feel often, has LPN, FCN, M.Com, CAIIB, DIM (A freelance writer with nothing to do with this biology. 36 Years Exp.) The connection may be a hard one to describe in a single word. It’s the comfort experienced from the core of the heart when you sit in the same room with your brother or sister, in an imagery silence, yet you both know how and what the other is feeling. World knows, beyond an iota of doubt, a brother or a sister is a helper of the first resort. Long live this pure relationship!

Johnny Depp: J

Lucky to be chosen for Fantastic Beasts

ack Sparrow, Willy Wonka, the Mad Hatter and now Gellert Grindelwald. The ever experimental Johnny Depp, who will reprise his role as the dark wizard in the sequel of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, says he feels lucky to have been chosen to join the franchise. Potter fans were in for a magical treat when Depp made an appearance as Gellert Grindelwald at the end of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. The first installment of the Harry Potter spin-off franchise had ended with the big revelation that Percival Graves (played by Colin Farrell) has transformed into Gellert Grindelwald(played by Depp), the evil wizard who has been hunting for an Obscurus, a dangerous magical parasite. The 53-year-old actor says he always believes in experimenting with his movies and “Fantastic Beast is another step towards achieving it. I made an appearance in the film. I want to experiment with new films. The idea is that. It is an amazing story. She (J K Rowling, author) is an amazing woman, So, I feel lucky to be chosen to be a part of ‘Fantastic Beasts’,” Depp told reporters at the red carpet of the world premiere of Pirates Of The Caribbean: Salazar’s Revenge . The fifth part of the Pirates franchise, which has Depp playing the swashbuckling pirate Captain Jack Sparrow, will release on May 26. Gellert Grindelwald, a feared, dark wizard, and had appeared briefly in the Harry Potter franchise as Albus Dumbledore’s arch nemesis. Jude

Kylie Jenner : People have misconceptions about who I am

R

Law has been announced to take on the role of young Dumbledore in Fantastic Beasts sequels, which will tell the story of his life as a professor at Hogwarts and his friendship and eventual enmity with Grindelwald.

The yet-to-be titled movie will also mark the return of Eddie Redmayne as Newt Scamander and Katherine Waterston. The David Yates-directed film is set for release later next year.

Tom Cruise:

eality TV star Kylie Jenner, who is coming up with her own docu-series Life Of Kylie, says a lot of people have misconceptions about her. The makers of Life Of Kylie on Monday released another trailer for the upcoming show in which Kylie hinted that she cannot keep up her glamorous image for a long term as the pressure gets to her, reports dailymail.co.uk. “When you grow up on camera, everybody feels like they know you but they don’t. I think a lot of people have misconceptions of who I am,” Kylie said in the new trailer. “I started filming ‘Keeping Up With The Kardashians’ when I was nine years old. I don’t think any of us knew what we were getting into. This show (Life Of Kylie) is a gift for my fans.” “There is an image I constantly feel pressure to keep up with. And then there’s the real Kylie. I do feel pressure to not let anybody down. Nobody has a perfect life. I am not totally innocent because I am keeping up this lifestyle. But I can’t do it forever… this is like a therapy session,” she added. Life of Kylie will be premiering from the month of July. Last month, a source told WHO Jenner’s famous family is excited about the young star’s new reality show, which has been in talks for months

The Mummy will be full of adventure

U

nless you’ve been trapped under an ancient Egyptian pyramid for the last few years, you’ll know that Universal has hit the reboot button on The Mummy franchise to be part of their shared movie universe. In an attempt to make this movie a success, the studio has hired Tom Cruise as the leading man and they’ve thrown out the campiness of the brilliant two films from the early noughties and gone all dark and gritty. Tom Cruise has promised fans that his upcoming action adventure horror The Mummy will be intense. Speaking at a live-streamed launch event in Los Angeles, Cruise

said the film was very intense as if all the trailers didn’t already make that obvious. But Cruise also said the new Mummy was

full of adventure, and also very funny, we’re really playing with a lot of tones– which is good news for fans of the Brendan Fraser ones. Elsewhere in the live stream, the cast joked about how working with Tom Cruise meant stunts, stunts, STUNTS – in this case, zero-G stunts – and how they are lucky to be alive. One person who wasn’t in attendance was Russell Crowe, who will appear in this movie as none other than Dr Jekyll, kicking off the whole franchise/shared universe thing – because The Mummy is definitely where it starts. The Mummy will be released on June 9 in the UK and the US.

There are some few tips to help on your way to a beautifully decorated Western style home. • Consult any good decorator that will tell you how to start by keeping a focus on inspiration piece. It can be of architectural designs like a special art piece, fireplace or any beautiful view. If in your mind there is any inspiration piece that you cannot purchase it right way, decorate that piece in mind and purchase when you can. • Start the decoration with the paint color : Dark color make a small room look smaller so before making a selection of color always keep in mind the size of the room. Western color themes are cactus greens, sunset reds, earthy browns, clay yellows and deep sky blues. Paint is the easiest, most affordable way to set the stage for western decorating throughout your home. • Start with small, choose several pieces of room that you like: If you are starting it with a bathroom, then start with a cabinet hardware. There are many types of cabinet knobs and hardware in old western styles equipped with a shotgun shells, equestrian style, barb wire, using Conchos western belts and other items seen in the Horse show ring. The best part about this is that all of these are available in rustic Western themes, featuring sculptures, iconic symbols, and ranch capes cowboys. Choose the style that you like the best and gradually make an addition of some quality pieces. Soap dishes and dispensers, containers for bath items, and necessities like linens, bath mats and shower curtains can all be used to enhance the western theme. movie review

Meri Pyaari Bindu CAST: Parineeti Chopra, Ayushmann Khurrana DIRECTION: Akshay Roy GENRE: Romance STORY: Bindu is an aspiring singer who doesn’t play by the rules, instinctively warms up to and then ditches new projects, cities and boys and cannot give her childhood sweetheart, Abhimanyu, the one thing he most craves: stability. REVIEW: Remember the sacrificial, selfless love shown in the films from the Raj Kapoor era where the best friend of the heroine loved her but she only cherished his friendship? This was much before Shah Rukh Khan and Co told us that friendship is love. Meri Pyaari Bindu is a nostalgic tribute to the time and attempts a similar love story. Only, Abhimanyu Roy’s (Ayushmann Khuranna) love is not selfless and this is no classic romance.

Filmmaker Maneesh Sharma bet his money on nostalgia and Khuranna two years ago with Dum Laga Ke Haisha. Now, director Akshay Roy has attempted the same, using Khurrana and Parineeti Chopra’s screen presence. Maneesh has produced both the films. We will have to wait and see if Meri Pyaari Bindu too resonates with the audience. Meri Pyaari Bindu harps on nostalgia from the ‘60s and ‘70s. Abhimanyu (Khuranna) and Bindu (Chopra) are childhood neighbours who strike a charming but unbalanced friendship - while the boy concentrates on the girl, she is only concerned about her singing aspirations. The story is narrated through a set of

songs ranging from Md Rafi and Asha Bhosle’s Abhi Na Jao Chhor Ke (Hum Dono, 1961) to Aarti Mukherjee’s Do Naina Aur Ek Kahaani (Masoom, 1960) and Kishore Kumar and Lata Mangeshkar’s Disco 82 (Khuddaar, 1980). The dialogues such as “love stories to koi bhi likh leta hai, bankers bhi likh lete hain” and “background me ‘Govinda, Govinda baj raha hoga aur tu mere saamne ghutne tek ke maafi mang rahi hogi’ come as a breath of fresh air. However, the story lacks the passion and depth required for a love story to move the audience. Even at two hours, Meri Pyaari Bindu seems stretched and lengthy. Also, the narrative keeps

/saentertainmentnewsmagazine

shifting between flashback and the present, making it too confused at times. While Khuranna is quite convincing as the hopeless lover who is a bestseller writer of soft porn (Chudail ki Choli and Dracula’s Lover), Chopra fails to spark the hidden, unspoken feelings her character is supposed to nurture for the hero. Khuranna and Chopra nonetheless are charismatic when it comes to portraying friendship - the screen lights up with life and charm every time they get into the zone and enjoy some harmless fun on the streets of Kolkata. Chopra’s passionate craziness for singing, too, is not visible. As the audience, you are supposed to imagine that she loves singing more than anything else - and that is mainly because of the reiterations of Abhi and not because of Bindu’s behaviour. The director, nonetheless, must be applauded for bringing the 80s Kolkata and current-day Mumbai on to the screen with the minutest of details. From the signature Goddess Durga idol overshadowing people to the property brokers of Mumbai advising a single girl that landlords prefer to rent out flats to a married woman. While the nostalgic references will ensure smiles keep making fleeting appearances on your face, the film won’t quite make you root for the characters.
