Everything You Need to Know About Getting Braces On orthodontic treatment fit your budget. Contact us today, to learn more.

Dr Vishal Sharma BSc, DDS, Cert. Ortho. FRCD(C), FCDS(BC)

Cont. from last Edition We also offer clear braces in Surrey and Abbotsford at our offices. They’re crafted from pure grown sapphire that’s heat polished, making them strong, smooth and, best of all, clear. They’re a lot less noticeable than metal braces, which is why they’re awesome for teens and adults who want the straightening power of braces in a more esthetic form. While you can get conventional metal and clear braces, there are also self-ligating braces. This type relies on brackets and wires but doesn’t require ligatures (elastics or metal ties). Instead, little doors hold the wires in place and the wires move along with your teeth. Finally, you have lingual braces. Lingual braces are the least visible of any kind of orthodontic treatment including Invisalign and Invisalign Teen.

www.entertainmentmagazine.ca

The braces, which are really small and customized to your mouth, are placed on the back of your teeth on the tongue-side. They work best for older teens and adults because they’re a bit harder to keep clean and you’ll have to see an orthodontist who’s specially trained in the technique. Lucky for you, we happen to know one: Dr. Sharma! How Much do Braces Cost? The cost of braces is one of the first things most people want to know. Unfortunately, there isn’t a hard and fast rule since the price tag is influenced by a variety of factors like the type of treatment you choose, how complex your case is, how well you follow your orthodontist’s instructions and even where you live. At Aura Orthodontics,

@sa entertainment

A Word On DIY Braces Before we get into the braces procedure, we have to address the alarming DIY braces trend. People of all ages (it’s not just young kids) have been attempting to save time and money by straightening their teeth on their own with things like rubber bands, hair ties and dental floss and there are video tutorials abound online. Not only is it ineffective, it’s also extremely dangerous. Orthodontists are specialists in using orthodontic appliances to straighten the teeth and shift the jaw and we have an in-depth knowledge of the mechanics of the bite and the biological mechanisms involved in moving the teeth. Orthodontics can cause permanent changes to your facial structure, so leaving it in the hands of a professional is definitely advisable. Using objects to move your teeth on your own can result in damage to your gum tissue and periodontal ligaments, tooth loss and long-term issues with oral health. In the end, fixing the damage will cost way more than it would have to straighten your teeth under an orthodontist’s care. With that out of the way, on to the good stuff. Cont. on next Edition

s I met this 50 years young, Aquarian graduate and a Punjabi Lyricist- of international fame- for the first time, in Surrey BC, I found him to be a soft spoken, a deep thinker and a humble personality. This was my first impression. And you know, one does not afford a second chance to create a first impression. When I asked him where he took the first breath of his life, he started rummaging into his past and with a deep breath he added, “I was born in village Badrukhan [ Distt Sangrur] to a farmer family of S Gurdev Singh (father) and Late Srdni.Mukhtiar Kaur(mother). He is eldest among the three brothers; others namely, Brother Dalbir Singh and Sukhbir Singh. He hastened to add that his Nanka pind [birthplace of her rev. mother] is village Rodeywal [Distt. Sangrur] which is incidentally the birth place of SherePunjab Maharaja Ranjit Singh. When I requested him to comment on his job profile, he replied,” I did an office job in Punjab Police to pay my bills for many years and then relinquished this job to focus on passion-my area of specialization i.e. reading and writing Punjabi literature- my mother tongue. When I en

For a song to be an evergreen hit, an accomplished singer has to sing in rhythm, with a hearty feel, and the lyrics need to have a meaningful description; a Tukbandi cannot be sung with a meaningful feel; this is the reason why some songs are immortal and myriads are lost into the dust of oblivion. Tukbandi is called doggerel- a poetry that is irregular in rhythm and in rhyme. This lyricist writes with a feel, beyond an iota of doubt. quired, how he got Takhallus Bedil (heartless) he felt excited and stated,” There was a poet in our village with the same Takhallus and I understood the nuances of lyrical writing from him and got this pen name with his permission. Takhallus means a penname adopted widely by Urdu poets. It is an Arabic word. When asked what his strengths are, he opined,” I am a good listener and a deep thinker. I still read a lot and then write stuff in my own mother tongue.” He further added that, my father did not encourage me for Punjabi song writing initially, though my wife Srdni. Paramjeet Kaur always encouraged me. My younger brothers always cheered me to hone my craft. He is blessed with two sons namely Amangeet Singh and Sursangeet Singh. When I stated how he feels after about a long journey of writing Punjabi lyrics for over 3 decades, He stated, “I have penned over 1000 songs. Many are a big hit. I have been bestowed with over 100 awards. I

really feel at ease when singers/ lyricists like Gurdas Mann, Babu Singh Mann , Sukhshinder Shinda, Ranjit Mani and millions of listeners appreciate my work. Though he is the first-generation lyricist and Novel/ Punjabi literature writer in the family, his nephew Armaan Bedil is following his footsteps; he has made his niche in Punjabi Singing. His takhllus bedil does not dovetail with his personality as he is a person with a golden heart. I feel I should address him as bda dil (a person with a big heart.) Hats off to the mother, who gave birth to this scintillating personality who write romantic poetry as well as sad one with the same command. This speaks of his grip on the language and his love for mother language Punjabi and the denizens of Punjab in particular. His story telling song “Gaddian Wali Taro” really fascinates me. His hobbies are reading and writing in Punjabi literature. His recent Novel Sandli Kheda is a great hit. He has got over 100 awards. It will not be out of place to mention that his songs are sung by leading Pollywood and Bollywood artistes namely: Rahat fath Ali Khan, Surinder Kaur, Surinder Chinda, Dilshad Akhtar, Ranjit Mani, Gippy Grewal, Daljit Dosanj, Anuradha Podwal, Kavita Krishnamurthy, Sukhwinder Singh. Mohinder Kapur His Maqbool (famous songs) are: • Rangli Charkhi Kuldip manak • Zhande Khalsa Raj De • Tere viah da card • Passport Bana liya • Kavan de vas pey gayi When I asked him, where he sees himself after 10 years. He stated,” I have a dream to produce a Punjabi film in years to come. Plus, I will write more Novels, screen plays for Punjabi films and write new songs. I want to serve the Punjabi community till I breath my last.” Let us wish him good health and meaningful writing as the best is yet to come

STUDENT INSURANCE PLAN:

a saviour for international students

E

Sandeep Ahuja

very year, thousands of students from various nations of the world make Canada their destination for quality education and settlement. As Canada government welcomes these students whole-heartedly, the number of students arriving here each year is increasing with the passage of time. While the youngsters arrive here with full enthusiasm, they have to work really hard due to multiple responsibilities like studying

www.entertainmentmagazine.ca

and arranging funds through employment. To arrive in their dream country, they have to incur huge expenses which are arranged through multiple means including borrowing money from friends or other sources. Here too, the cost of education for international students is approximately three times that of the domestic student. They are thus, under a financial burden and face a transition period in their life unlike the students in their home country. While some students return to their home country after attaining education, many others aspire to settle here. Since for them, there are a lot of dreams that need to be fulfilled including attaining a permanent residence, owning a house, conveyance, having a good bank balance along with other amenities of life; young people must insure themselves so that these dreams may not get shattered by the undue financial burden caused by a medical emergency.

/saentertainmentmagazine

@ansalmedia

But as we know, life is not always the same. If some external mishappening befalls, there is no coverage for the first three months after their arrival. The cost of medical treatment and related services is extremely high in this country. The expenses for one day confinement at the ICU can jump up to $9545 per day. Before attaining permanent residence, these expenses can turn into a nightmare by becoming a onetime mortgage payment. Amidst this situation, it is extremely vital for youngsters to protect themselves against any unforeseen medical emergency. By making a payment of only $ 45-50 per month amounting to $150 for three months, students can get up to $2 million coverage that will cover their emergency medical treatment, physician services, ambulance services, x-ray examinations, medicines, rental of essential medical appliances, private duty nursing, dental, psychiatric and eye examination.

@sa entertainment

So, I would highly suggest that never ignore the importance of getting student travel insurance. If a student arrives here, first, ask him to get adequate insurance. Ask the youngsters to advise their friends at school to have proper insurance. A small wise step taken in this direction today would make your life much more easier and free of worries in future. As an independent insurance advisor working through Punjab Insurance Agency, I deal with different insurance companies offering plans for different types of insurance. I can explain to you in detail, various insurance plan options and coverage that are suitable for your needs and resources. For a no obligation appointment,

Indian players used to play barefooted and being bold and dutiful, these brave hearts fought with other world teams, who played with shoes on. That is why the name of the film is penned as Barefoot Warriors. It is an attempt to wean away the youth from the clutches of deadly drugs.” S Joban Preet Singh is the production Manager of this film. he Turn 11 and 12 complex at Road Atlanta, the final sequence of corners of one of North America’s greatest natural-terrain road-racing circuits, is no place for waffling commitment. A blind, plunging dive into a highspeed right-hand sweeper that leads onto the front straightaway, it has an intimidatingly narrow exit (and a looming concrete barrier) that makes for a sobering test of internal fortitude. Feeling out both it and the 2019 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1’s 755 horsepower is a bit like learning to juggle with live hand grenades. But Chevy’s pinnacle of front-engine Corvette evolution is a benevolent monster on the track. Respect its power and the ZR1 doesn’t flinch under duress or nervously protest midcorner commands. Saturday, April 14 saw Brian Jessel BMW transformed to a bubbly return to the joie-de-vivre of Paris in the 1930’s……Cabaret Cabriolet. Angelina Jolie inspired by Queen Elizabeth II

A

ctor-filmmaker Angelina Jolie has praised Queen Elizabeth II as a “really lovely lady” who cares about the future. Jolie, 42, praised the Queen for her dedication to helping in planting trees in Africa to highlight the importance of forest conservation, saying she has been inspired by the 91-year-old royal to teach her own children – Maddox, 16, Pax, 14, Zahara, 12, Shiloh, 11, and twins Vivienne and Knox, 9, about the cause, reports femalefirst.co.uk. In a new documentary titled The Queen’s Green Planet, Jolie said: “For us to come here and say to the children, ‘This is why it’s important to plant a tree’, that’s the biggest message I can teach my kids, and it’s something that they’ve certainly learned from Her Majesty and her message. “My kids ask me, ‘Why is it so important to her?’ You know when you sit up at night in a tent with your kids and they say, ‘Why does the Queen of England care about planting trees in Africa? What it comes down to is you say to the kids, ‘You know really, you don’t know her, you can’t understand all that it means to be a queen and all that. “But you try to say, ‘You know she’s just this really lovely lady who really cares about people around the world, and she really cares about the future, and she wants your grandkids and her grandkids to be able to be running around, enjoying nature and other cultures, and the importance of other cultures.” The Queen’s Green Planet highlights the environmental project The Queen’s Canopy, which aims to unite all the countries of the commonwealth in conservation efforts. e have all been there, when we are too lazy to remove our make-up. From attending late-night weddings to a long day at work, removing make-up seems like a tedious job at night. But, do you know that this habit can take a toll on your skin? Missing that one step at night is one beauty sin a girl should never commit. Don’t agree? Read through and know all the things that can happen when you don’t remove your make-up regularly. 1. Eye infection Getting that eye make-up right is an achievement for every girl. But, do you know that those hot smokey eyes or those colourful shadows can cause an eye infection? From mascara to shadows, the tiny particles can slip into your eyes and cause irritation, redness and even a severe infection. 2. Stubborn Blackheads No one is a fan of those hideous blackheads on the face! When you don’t remove make-up, you’re only clogging your pores, leading to blackheads. 3. Pimple One of the most obvious thing that can happen when you don’t remove make-up is acne. Clogged pores and not removing make-up can cause infection and lead to pimples. 4. Dry Lips Removing that long-lasting lip colour is a task, we know. But is it worth getting dry lips? No way. When you don’t remove your lipstick at night, your lips can become dry as the colour leaches the moisture away from them. 5. Skin Ageing It’s always better to take care of your skin at an early stage than going for treatments later on. Not removing your makeup, creates a barrier leading to dry skin. Also, the make-up attracts free radicals which can cause early signs of ageing.

Canadian Mortgage award winner for 2018:

Akash Sharma

T

he mortgage industry’s best and brightest were recognized and celebrated at the 12th annual Canadian Mortgage Awards at Toronto’s Liberty Grand—and what a Friday night bash it was. Dominion Lending Centres emerged as Canada’s top network, winning the National Broker Network of the Year Award. “It’s awesome, we had a great night,” said DLC’s President and CEO Gary Mauris. “Great awards, always put on exceptionally well, it’s nice to see everybody, and nice to take home the hardware too. There’s a big room here tonight and it’s always fun.” CanWise Financial was up for four awards and took home the Award for the Mortgage Brokerage of the Year (25 Employees or More), and according to the company’s president and broker of record, it was a night to remember. “This is our second [award win] in two years, so we’re super pumped to get this. We’re nominated in four categories, and we’re glad to get at least one,” said James Laird. “The whole industry comes together— brokers, lenders, service providers—and we all get to celebrate the year that was, and it’s a fun night.” Anne Brill of Centum Metrocapp Wealth Solutions won the Award for Mortgage Broker of the Year (25 Employees or More), and says she couldn’t have done it without the

support of her outstanding team. “I’m in shock,” Brill told Mortgagebrokernews.ca upon winning. “I’m very proud. Love the night, lots of great people and I’m so honoured to be among these people. It’s nice to be able to recognize the broker world and the mortgage industry, and I’m so proud of everyone I work beside.” Festivities got off to start with attendees from coast-to-coast catching up with each over cocktails before they made their way to the reception room where Collin Bruce accepted the first award of the night for Best Use of Mobile Technology. “I’m surprised but humbled, it’s pretty exciting,” he said. “The CMAs are the biggest awards in this industry—this is huge. I’ve been fortunate to win before, and it’s the biggest thing that could happen in this industry.” In his very first year as a mortgage broker, Akash Sharma of Able & Remarkable Mortgages won the award for Alternative Broker Specialist of the Year (Business for Self), and it can only signify things to come. “My first year at a brokerage as a broker and after leaving a major bank, TD, it feels awesome,” he said. “Coming down from B.C. to Toronto to get the award is really awesome. The reason I came here is to network and I’m really thankful to Community Trust to give me the award, and hopefully this is an inspiration to all young people.”

n allergy is an overreaction of the immune system to a substance that’s harmless to most people. In Spring we see more of Pollen Related Allergy Symptoms In an attempt to protect the body, the immune system of the allergic person produces antibodies called immunoglobulin E (IgE). Those antibodies then cause mast cells and basophils (allergy cells in the body) to release chemicals (including histamine) into the bloodstream to defend against the allergen “invader.” It’s the release of these chemicals that causes allergic reactions, affecting a person’s eyes, nose, throat, lungs, skin, or gastrointestinal tract as the body attempts to rid itself of the invading allergen. Future exposure to that same allergen will trigger this allergic response again. This means that every time the person eats that particular food or is exposed to that particular allergen, he or she will have an allergic reaction. Allergies can be Seasonal (happening only at certain times of the year, like when pollen counts are high) or can occur any time someone comes in contact with an allergen. Who Gets Allergies? The tendency to develop allergies is often hereditary, which means it can be passed down through your genes. However, just because you, your partner, or one of your children might have allergies doesn’t mean that all of your kids will definitely get them, too. And someone usually doesn’t inherit a particular allergy, just the likelihood of having allergies. But a few kids have allergies even if no family member is allergic. And a child who is allergic to one substance is likely to be allergic to others Airborne Allergy Symptoms Airborne allergens can cause something known as allergic rhinitis, which occurs in about 7% to 10% of Canadians .It usually develops by 10 years of age and reaches its peak in the teens or early twenties, with symptoms often disappearing between the ages of 40 and 60. Symptoms can include:

But other allergies are less obvious because they can be similar to other conditions. If your child has cold-like symptoms lasting longer than a week or two or develops a “cold” at the same time

every year, consult your doctor, who will likely ask questions about the symptoms and when they appear. Based on the answers and a physical exam, the doctor might be able to make a diagnosis and prescribe medicines, or may refer you to an allergist for allergy tests and more extensive therapy. To find the cause of an allergy, allergists usually do skin tests for the most common environmental and food allergens. A skin test can work in one of two ways: A drop of a purified liquid form of the allergen is dropped onto the skin and the area is pricked with a small pricking device. A small amount of allergen is injected just under the skin. This test stings a little but isn’t extremely painful. After about 15 minutes, if a lump surrounded by a reddish area appears (like a mosquito bite) at the injection site, the test is positive. As an alternative test, blood tests may be used in children with skin conditions, those who are on certain medicines, or those who are extremely sensitive to a particular allergen. Even if a skin test and/or a blood test shows an allergy, a child must also have symptoms to be diagnosed with an allergy. For example, a toddler who has a positive test for dust mites and sneezes a lot while playing on the floor would be considered allergic to dust mite Treating Allergies

LIFESTYLE

sports

If reducing exposure to environmental allergens isn’t possible or is ineffective, medicines may be prescribed, including antihistamines (which you can also buy over the counter), eye drops, and nasal sprays. In some cases, an allergist may recommend allergy shots,to help desensitize someone with an allergy. However, allergy shots are only helpful for allergens such as dust, mold, pollens, animals. Here are some things that can help kids avoid airborne allergens: 4 Keep family pets out of certain rooms, like your child’s bedroom. 4 Remove carpets or rugs from your child’s room (hard floor surfaces don’t collect dust as much as carpets do). 4 Don’t hang heavy drapes and get rid of other items that allow dust to build up. 4 Clean when your child is not in the room. 4 Use special covers to seal pillows and mattresses if your child is allergic to dust mites. 4 For kids allergic to pollen, keep the windows closed when the pollen season is at its peak, change their clothing and bathe them after they’ve been outdoors, and don’t let them mow the lawn. 4 Keep kids who are allergic to mold away from damp areas, such as some basements, and keep bathrooms and other mold-prone areas clean and dry.

Controlling Anger Lest Anger will control you…

Prof. Surinder Kochhar (Shaun) LPN, FCN, M.Com, CAIIB, DIM A freelance writer with 36 Years Exp. A Diabetes Coach of University of Victoria

W

e all know about anger. And weall are most experienced on it.Anger is a human emotion. Which is usually a normal reaction when we feel irritated. It becomes a negative trait, when it gets out of control and turns destructive. When destructive, it can lead to problems—problems at work, in your personal relationships, and in the overall quality of your daily life. And we cannot help thinking that we are at the mercy of this unpredictable and powerful emotion. What is Anger: Anger is the result of physiological and biological changes that happen in our body.when under the fit of an anger our body start experiencing changes. The vital signs namely heart rate, respiration and blood pressure go up, as do the levels of your energy hormones, adrenaline, and noradrenaline. Cause of Anger can be internal or external. We get angry at a particular person (say boss) or event (a traffic jam), or your anger could be caused by worrying or brooding about your personal problems. Memories of traumatic or enraging events also trigger angry feelings in us. Expressing Anger is natural: When we express anger or be threatened to be, we respond aggressively, that is the natural instinct in us.Knowingly or unknowingly, we stand up to fight and to defend ourselves,when we are attacked. A certain amount of anger, therefore, is necessary to our survival. But, we do not have the liberty to physically lash out at otherpersonsor object that irritates or annoys us e.g. laws of the land. Process of anger: On anger front, three main approaches are • expressing, • suppressing,

No matter however bad your situation is, just lose your temper and make it worse.

30

MAY 2018

• and calming. Expressing your angry feelings in an assertive manner is the best way to express anger. To do this, you have to learn how to make clear what your need to say or do and keep in mind that others also have the right to be respected. Being assertive doesn’t mean being pushy or demanding; it means being respectful of yourself and others right not to be yelled at. When we suppress anger, it can get converted or redirected. This happens when you hold in your angerand focus on something positive. The aim is to inhibit or suppress your anger and convert it into more constructive behavior. The danger in this type of response is that if it isn’t expressed outwardly, your anger can turn inward—on you. Anger turned inward may cause serious health issues including hypertension, stroke, or depression. Unexpressed anger is problematic: Unexpressed anger can create other set of problems. It can lead to pathological expressions of anger, such as passive-aggressive behavior.People in this stage confronthead-on and are cynical and hostile. These people who constantly put others down, criticize everything. And not surprisingly, they fail to experience successful relationships. In the third stage people try tocalm down inside. And manage their outward behavior. This helps the person to come back on the rails of normalcy.In an effort to calm downone can go for a walk. Getting away from a situation that is causing you to feel angry can help you calm down. Getting outdoors and focusing on nature can be even more soothing. Taking a walk will help you burn off some of that negative energy instantly and can help you get away from the problem. I use this method vociferously Anger Management: The goal of anger management is to deceleratethe arousal that anger causes. we can’t get rid of, or avoid, the things or the people thatmaddenus, nor can we change them, but you can learn to compose ourselves and control our reactions. Speaking from my own experience some people really are more “hotheaded” than others are; they get angry more easily and more intensely than the average person

When, being angry, we feel like firing on another person; count 10 in reverse order and you will be able to hold your nerve and resist from the temptation of unmerited firing.Wise people do not shoot the AK 47 of words from the shoulder of an anger. does. Conversely, there are also those who don’t show their anger in open ways but are chronically irritable and grumpy. Some people have a low tolerance for frustration. They feel that they should not have to be subjected to frustration, inconvenience, or annoyance. Always remember that everyone has a threshold limit, after that anger can topple wisdom, though temporarily. When anger is in wisdom goes out. Anger can be genetic: One cause may be genetic or physiological. Some children are born irritable, touchy, and easily angered. They show these signs at a very early age. Another may be sociocultural. Our children need to know as to how to channelize angerin a constructive manner. Research has alsoconfirmed that family background plays a role. Typically, people who are easily angered come from families that are disruptive, chaotic, and not practiced at emotional level of communications. Strategies to keep anger away: As we age, we keep on learning to manage anger in a better manner. As per experts following strategies provide reasonable help: • Breathe deeply, from your diaphragm; breathing from your chest won’t relax you. • Slowly repeat a calm word or phrase such as “relax,” “control”, “take it easy.” Repeat it to yourself 20times,while breathing deeply. • Use imagery; visualize a relaxing experience, from either your memory or your imagination. • Non-strenuous, breathing related yoga exercises can relax your muscles and make you feel much calmer. • Make a planand implement it. check your progress along the way. Resolve to giveyour best, • Better Communication helps. Be a

good listener. • It’s natural to get defensive when you’re criticized, but don’t fight back. Learn to forgive people. People are not going to change; you have to amend your way of handling such situations. Sometimes, to take a stand helps. • Keeping your cool can keep the situation from becoming a terribleone. • Selectively use humor depending on the situation and the level of the parties engaged. There are two cautions in using humor. First, don’t try to just “laugh off” your problems; rather, use humor to help yourself face them in a more constructive manner. Second, don’t give in to harsh,mocking humor; that’s just another form of unhealthy anger expression. • Changing Your Environment helps. Move away from the scene. Time is a great healer. Discuss the situation after at least 72 Hours. • Avoid things that offend you. • Choose the proper timing to discuss issues. Ccounselling helps in some cases: If you feel that your anger is really out of control; it is having an impact on your relationships and on important parts of your life, you might consider counseling -to learn how to handle it better. When you talk to a prospective therapist, tell him that you have problems with anger that you want to work on, and ask about his approach to anger management. With counseling, psychologists say, a highly angry person can move closer to a middle range of anger in about 8 to 10 weeks, depending on the circumstances and the techniques used. Conclusion Remember, you can’t eliminate anger—and it wouldn’t be a good idea to do so. In spite of all your efforts, things will happen that will cause you anger; and sometimes it will be a justifiable anger. Repeatedly, we are filled with frustration, pain, loss, and the unpredictable actions of others inflicted on us. You can’t change that; but you can change the way you let such events bother you. Controlling your angry responses can keep them from making you even more unhappy in the long run. That is a wise thing to do.

An angry person is not always wise, because anger is a brief madness. Those who keep their anger under control, are more successful in their chosen field. They know that whatever begins in anger ends in shame.

A Girl in a Whirl Contd. from previous issue (Part 21) A few punches of Sam were very hard on me. I got up and lay on the bed with my belly down. I kept weeping for long. After sometime, Sam came. I tried to rush into the washroom to escape from him. He clutched my arm and threw me on the bed. When he tried to hold me, I slapped him in irritation a couple of times too. Sam reciprocated my slaps. I felt like bruising Sam’s face with my sharp fingernails. “Sam, first listen to me…Sam.”, I pleaded with Sam in a bit relaxed tone so I could clear his misunderstanding. But Sam was badly drunk. It was completely useless to talk with him. He had turned a devil. He smacked and looted me that night again. 25. I took to God When I woke up the next morning, Sam had left for work. I went to the washroom. I filled the tub with hot water and lay in it to heal my internal injuries. I was feeling myself a stranger in that house. I was unable to decide how to face the family members and what to do. My side ribs were aching badly from Sam’s smacking. Whom could I explain why I did so who could convince Sam? Nobody knew me here. Neither did I have bhua’s telephone number, nor did I have my own cell phone. Our home phone was in the kitchen. Whom could I tell my problems? Who was there to listen to me? I

didn’t feel like going downstairs. I was feeling badly stressed. When I went completely blank, I took out the holy small book from my purse. At first, I read japji Sahib. Time seemed to have stopped for me. I felt as if all the doors were closed for me. “Will my in-laws allow me to talk to my parents? I don’t think so.”, I shuddered. “Waheguru! You are my saviour. Please save me. I remembered what my dad had told me about Sukhmani sahib. I prayed to god, “Hey Waheguru! Take me out of this trouble; I will read Sukhmani Sahib every day for forty days.” I began reading Sukhmani Sahib right then. It was a long reading. I was finding many words hard to pronounce. I was reading it but I was unable to fathom many words. That’s why I was getting bored with it. But I continued reading with great determination. I had no other choice. I made up my mind neither to go downstairs, nor to eat anything; I would read the holy bani. I was already feeling loss of hunger. I didn’t want to see anyone. I wasn’t able to focus on reading holy bani, but I kept on reading. I felt sleepy again. After completing the bani (patth), I slept again. It was 3 P.M. when someone knocked at my door. I saw Daljit’s three-year-old daughter standing at the door. “Have your meal, aunty.”, Jassi lisped. I asked Jassi to come near me. She came.

@sa entertainment

“Jassi, did big mom send you here?”, I asked her slowly. She ran downstairs nodding a yeah. I didn’t feel like seeing anyone. I began reading Sukhmani Sahib again. I was wondering why I was feeling a strange sort of strength in me, although I hadn’t eaten anything since morning. I had lost my hunger for the beating and false allegations from Sam. I kept reading the holy bani. I finished my reading a second time and slept again. I had a knock at my door. My mother-in-law was standing there with a plate of meal. “There is no need to remain hungry and die. Have the damn meal!”, she kept the meal on my dressing table and left. I felt a kind of victory in it. I had begun feeling hungry by then. I had my meal and water, and lay on the bed again. I was lost in my thoughts of present circumstances. Sam came into the room in the evening but I remained lying on the bed. Sam took a shower and went downstairs without saying anything. When he came back, he was badly drunk. He satisfied his lust and slept. I didn’t oppose much because I had learned that I would be smacked again. And I was not ready for that. I was getting only one meal a day. Sam was not talking to me at all. He didn’t have any other concern with me, but the only one. One week passed. I began reading Sukhmani Sahib twice a day. I began getting two meals a day. 6 Mistakes Home Buyers Make

Navtej Khela

I

get phone calls from potential home buyers every day, asking us to send them listings so that they could make choice for their dream home. I used the word ‘potential’ because I don’t really know these people are qualified to buy a home or not. That is why I stress on talking to a mortgage professional first rather than wasting time looking for the houses which they can’t put offer on. In this market situation, I highly recommend that all home buyers should avoid making following mistakes while buying a homeMistake #1. Not Getting Pre-Qualified for a Mortgage Before looking for your next home take the time to get pre-qualified by the bank or mortgage broker you choose. This can save you hours of searching for homes in the wrong price range or worse, purchasing a home and then finding out you don’t qualify for financing. Pre-qualifying gives you peace of mind; helps narrow your search criteria and most importantly, gives your realtor a negotiating edge by being able to alleviate the sellers concern over financing. It is especially important when there are competing offers on a property. Mistake #2. Not Shopping For Mortgage Terms Rates are negotiable! Banks will sharpen their pencils to get your business especially if you have a good credit rating and bring other business to them e.g. RRSP’s, general account, savings

www.entertainmentmagazine.ca

etc. Posted rates should be viewed as a starting point. You need to know what the best rate is and this is usually done by get competitive quotes. Also, ask whether the bank will cover appraisal fees, and about buy-out fees, penalties, payment options, portability etc. The time spent can save you thousands of dollars over the life of the mortgage. Mistake #3. Not Using A Professional Real Estate Agent. Your real estate professional can help you make a purchase with the least amount of problems. He or she can ensure the price you pay is market value. They can offer expert advice on what to look for, conditions to include, negotiation strategy etc. After all, they work for you. Every day I come across people who have not used professional realtor and they end up buying a property about which they were not given enough information.

/saentertainmentmagazine

@ansalmedia

Mistake #4. Not Getting Professional Inspections Nobody wants to purchase a home only to find out later there are defects, latent or otherwise. Ensure you obtain inspections where needed e.g. home inspection, structural engineer, insect, radon etc. If the inspection identifies deficiencies you may be able to negotiate the purchase price to cover required repairs or make your satisfaction of the inspection subject to the homeowner remedying the problem. Your Century21 agent can advise you on inspections you should consider. Mistake #5. Buying First Before Selling If price is important you should always sell your present home before buying another. It has the advantage in letting you know exactly how much money you will have available for your next purchase. Selling your home first allows you to place fewer conditions on your

@sa entertainment

purchase which makes your offer more attractive to a seller. They often will demand more money to take a “subject to” offer which takes their home off the market. The other advantage is if you find a terrific house, chances are others will also find it attractive and you stand to lose it if you can’t make an unconditional offer. Mistake #6. Not Knowing The Full Cost Of Home Buying Know all the costs associated with your purchase. Consider the following costs: legal fees, transfer tax, property taxes, new home landscaping, fencing, appliances, window coverings. I hope this information will help home buyers. Good luck to you for your next real estate purchase!

Knowing what to expect eases first-time homebuying fears TD survey finds seven in 10 first-time homebuyers worry about being hit with an unanticipated cost

V

ancouver, April 26, 2018 – Similar to the rollercoaster ride experienced by first-time parents, owning your first home can be an exhilarating yet unfamiliar experience. Knowing and preparing for what to expect on the homebuying journey is often half the battle, and can help cut down on unexpected surprises. A new survey by TD reveals that more than half (56 per cent) of Canadian first-time homebuyers are anxious and afraid that they’ll forget to take a crucial step as they gain their foothold on the property ladder. It’s no wonder that nearly one quarter of those polled (24 per cent) say that the homebuying process is stressing them out, while one fifth (21 per cent) admit they are simply overwhelmed. “For any significant life milestone, it’s challenging to know what to expect,” said Marc Kulak, Vice President, TD Bank Group. “For example, when you prepare to have kids, there are numerous steps and stages you go through to help prepare for their arrival. But when it comes to buying your first home, first-time buyers often enter the process with lots of unanswered questions. By seeking out advice in advance, you can avoid many of the common pitfalls, such as being hit with an unanticipated cost, experienced by first-time buyers.” The survey findings also reveal that seven out of ten (71 per cent) first-time homebuyers are worrying about being hit with unanticipated costs during the homebuying process. , At the same time, many of those surveyed aren’t taking the steps needed to prepare when purchasing a home. Just 39 per cent are taking steps to reduce their debt, with less than a third (28 per cent) working to improve their credit score. “Our research found that more than onethird of first- time home buyers are saving for a down payment without planning the home buying process,” said Kulak. “Saving for a down payment is just one priority. Take time

you close on your home purchase and pay all closing costs, don’t make the mistake of assuming your mortgage payments will be the only home-related expenses you’ll face. From property taxes to maintenance costs, there are lots of responsibilities and expenses that come with owning a home.

Protect Your Home

It’s well-known that new parents are typically very protective of their children, and often child-proof their home well before their child is on the move. Protecting your new home is also critical. Most first time home-buyers (70 per cent) are prepared for the costs of home insurance. Having the right insurance can help you feel at ease with your specific circumstances and help ensure there are no surprises down the road if crisis or catastrophe hits.

to consider the many costs and steps associated with homebuying – from appraisal fees to mortgage default insurance. By anticipating expenses and adopting sound financial behaviours such as paying down your existing debts, you are setting yourself up for success.” For first-time homebuyers looking to ease anxiety and stress during their homebuying journey, TD is offering the following tips and advice:

Manage any Existing Debt

First-time parents are often advised to get financially “ready” as they prepare to make the big decision to have kids. Similarly, you’ll want to feel financially “ready” when making a decision as important as buying a home. Before applying for a mortgage, it is a good idea to get your own ‘financial house’ in order. The TD Mortgage Affordability Calculator is a helpful tool – it uses financial information provided by the potential buyer to help them understand how much home they may be able to afford after monthly expenses, debt payments and savings are accounted for.

Consider all Homebuying Costs

From diapers to daycare and everything in

between, the costs associated with caring for a newborn can add up fast. Similarly, firsttime homebuyers will quickly find out there are many expenses associated with buying a home. The survey found less than half firsttime home buyers had planned for appraisal fees (49 per cent), mortgage default insurance (47 per cent) or closing adjustments (41 per cent). The best advice is to be aware of all the possible costs you could face so you don’t get hit with an unexpected expense.

Make Your Mortgage Work for You

As first-time parents find out soon enough, every baby is different; first time home-buyers also learn that not all mortgages are the same. The TD survey revealed that more than half (52 per cent) of first-time homebuyers are uncertain which type of mortgage would be the best fit for their needs and lifestyle. Meeting with a financial advisor can help determine the best mortgage type to help meet your personal financial situation.

Don’t Put Your Finances Under Pressure Similar to parenting, the costs of owning a home continue for years to come. Once

About the TD survey

“Vaccinations For Your Pet” Dr. H. Bhullar, DVM Sifti Bhullar, 4th Year Student Atlantic Veterinary College, University of P.E.I.

O

ne of the most common questions that every owner faces is “Should I have my pet vaccinated?” This article will help you answer this question, along with all the other common thoughts that cross your mind: What is a vaccine? Which vaccines does my dog need? When should I give my pet his/ her vaccinations? What are the benefits or reactions of getting my pet vaccinated? Why does my pet need a vaccine? In simpler terms, a vaccine contains an army of soldiers who help to prepare your pet’s immune system against an invasion. This invasion is from

38

MAY 2018

small organisms, which aid in spreading disease and illness. These vaccines that we give our pets contain antigens. These antigens look very similar to those disease-causing organisms that try to attack our pet’s immune system. However, these antigens do not cause disease. They simply stimulate the immune system slightly and prepare the body for fighting when the real disease

is introduced. This allows for the severity of the illness to be lessened and helps your pet fight off the bad guys. Which vaccines do I need to give to my pet? The vaccines which are high recommended for your pet by veterinary professionals are called “core vaccinations”. These are a list of different vaccines that are required in your pet to help protect against diseases which are more commonly seen, severe in illness or can be transmitted to humans. For dogs, the core vaccinations are: Distemper, Canine Hepatitis, Canine Parvovirus and Rabies vaccine. You may also want to consider other vaccinations, based on risk of exposure: Leptospira, Bordetella bronchiseptica and Borrelia burgdorferi. “Core Vaccinations” for your cat are: Panleukopenia (Feline Distemper), Feline Herpesvirus Type 1 (Rhinotracheitis), Feline Calicivirus and Rabies vaccine. Other vaccines to consider are: Feline Leukemia Virus, Chlamydophila felis, Feline Immunodeficiency Virus and Bordetella. It is best to consult with your local veterinarian on which vaccinations are suggestive towards your pet’s situation. When comes the answer of how soon should your pet be vaccinated, it depends on the age and situation. Puppies and kittens receive their first line of defense from their mother’s milk, (colostrum) while nursing. This milk contains antibodies, which help to protect the immune system at such an early

age. At the age of 6 – 8 weeks old, it is recommended for both puppies and kittens to have their first series of vaccinations administer. With 3 – 4 week intervals in between and having the last dose given then at the age of 16 weeks old. If you dog or cat is an adult, then they would have certain vaccinations administered once a year, and others at every three or more years. In regards to the Rabies vaccination for both dogs and cats, please check your area’s laws. Some places will require your pet to receive a rabies vaccine every year, whereas other areas may require the vaccine to be given every three years. Majority of places wish for you to have proof of the rabies vaccination on file. If you are unsure, you can always contact your local veterinarian and they will be happy to provide you with the rules and regulations regarding vaccinations your pet needs. Once your pet receives a vaccination, a reaction is dependent on every individual animal. Some dogs or cats show no reaction at all and are healthy or comfortable afterwards. Some pets however, can show temporary signs of: loss of appetite, vomiting, fever, facial swelling/hives, diarrhea, pain/ swelling/redness/scabbing/ hair loss around injection site, lameness, lameness, collapse, difficulty breathing or even seizures. Severity of signs depends on individual patients. If any of these signs appear or progress, please contact your veterinarian immediately.

5 signs your hair is due for a haircut ‘When’s the last time you got a haircut?’ How many of you have lied through your teeth when visiting a hairstylist for a much-required chop? We all tend to procrastinate, especially when it comes to a haircut. While you think that not cutting your hair will help you achieve those Rapunzel-esque locks, what you don’t realise is that you’re damaging them even further. The first step to restoration lies in accepting that your hair needs restoring. And that comes with a lovely haircut. If you’re waking up with an angry mane every other day, here are the tell-tale signs that your hair needs a trim, or more.

1. It’s falling more than usual Losing hair in the shower? Keep finding it on your pillow? Your hairbrush is more hair than bristles? Well, that means your hair is weak and brittle and therefore needs a whole lot of TLC. 2. It has lost shape Your hair loses shape as it grows out and when you’ve outgrown the style, you end up going from a lovely layered haircut, to a Christmas tree. That’s when you need to visit your stylist and get it restyled. This way, you will also chop off any dead ends that make your hair look lifeless. 3. You’ve got too many split ends If you’ve got way too many split ends, you’re due for a haircut. Wrap your ends around your finger and see how it looks. If it’s smooth, with a couple of strands sticking out, you’re good to go. However, if your hair looks more porcupine-like, then it’s probably time. 4. It’s falling flat When they say hair gets lifeless, they mean it. If your hair loses volume it usually tends to fall flat, which means you need to revive it with a haircut to get it back to shape. 5. It tangles easy The moment you realise you’re waking up with a crow’s nest in your hair, you need to head to your nearest salon. As your hair grows longer, it tends to knot up more. The detangling process is quite harsh on the follicles and hair tends to break when too

ctress Jacqueline Fernandez has praised director Remo D’Souza for doing a fantastic job with Race 3, the third installment of the popular actionthriller franchise “Race”. Jacqueline was interacting with the media at Physique 57, a New York based barre workout studio’s launch party on Wednesday. The “Race 2” actress had earlier worked with D’Souza in “A Flying Jatt” before “Race 3”. Collaborating for the second time with the director, Jacqueline Fernandez said, “It was an amazing experience. We had gone to some great location and shot some really cool stuff. “Remo, I feel is doing a fantastic job. The cast is already excited so we all are having real fun.” Talking about the workout studio’s launch, Jacqueline said: “Physique 57 actually is an amazing class something which I do especially when I travel. It’s an exercise which also incorporates dance forms which is something I really like.” Jacqueline is considered extremely fit in the industry, so when asked whether there is added pressure to maintain that, she said: “Yes. There is lot of added pressure actually. But sometimes I enjoy added pressure because it actually gives more incentives to kind of keep staying fit.” Courtesy: IANS

my mum, your mom, every mummy Being a mom is a unique feeling; words fail to express this everlasting sentiment. It is like no other better feel in the world; and the work of a mum is never done. Motherhood is often motivated by pure, unparalleled and unwavering love. While she executes selflessly, so much, often I feel she goes unappreciated, or under-appreciated.

Prof. Surinder Kochhar (Shaun) LPN, FCN, M.Com, CAIIB, DIM A freelance writer with 36 Years Exp. A Diabetes Coach of University of Victoria

How mothers’ day started: After all, a mom is a mom, is a mom. It started in USA. In the U.S, the idea of honoring mothers with a special day originates by abolitionist Julia Ward Howe in 1872, but that observance and others faded. In 1908, another effort was made by Anna Jarvis, a West Virginia native who had moved to Philadelphia, led a campaign to celebrate Mother’s Day in May, marking the anniversary of her own mother’s death. Her idea caught on nationally and in 1914 a joint resolution of Congress and presidential proclamation established the second Sunday in May as Mother’s Day. Today the holiday is a popular day wherein mothers get phonecalls, greeting cards, flowers, gifts- as a token of love- and dining out.

Mother’s Day in Canada As a corollary, The Mother’s Day is celebrated in Canada and other parts of the world also. It is fixed on the second Sunday of May each year. Many Canadians celebrate Mother’s Day by showing their appreciation for mothers or mother -like figures. Mother figures include step-mothers, mothers-in-law, guardians (e.g. a foster mother). It is a special time for people to thank their noble mothers and mother figures who took time to care for them and help them through their formative years and life’s challenges in succession. So, children give cards, flowers, or chocolates, and/or make handmade items or special meals on Mother’s Day. Others take their mothers or mother figures to the movies, a restaurant, cafe, or a day in a park. Some mothers also receive special gifts such as jewelry, clothing, accessories, and gift vouchers for services or products. Mother’s Day is not a federal holiday: It comes on a Sunday, when many organizations, schools, and government offices are closed. Restaurants may be more- busier than usual as some people take their mothers out for a treat. What goes on to make a good

This article is meant to all the young and aged mothers, working mothers and homemakers, married mothers and the single ones; those with reasonable money and without; and for those without whom life of their kids would have been intolerable. For those mothers who cannot restrain tears from trickling down their cheeks when they hold their babies for the first time in their arms; and for the mothers who give birth to babies they could never see.For the mothers who taught their children to tie the shoelaces even before they started going to school.For mothers who have milk stains on their shirts and diapers in their hand bags.For the mothers who silently shed tears for their children who are into drugs. For all the mothers of the victims of all these school shootings, and the mothers of those who were involved in the shooting.For the mothers of the survivors of terrorist attacks, and the mothers who sat in front of their TVs in fear, clinging to their children for umpteen minutes who just arrived from school safely.

mother? Mothers are here and there. Though Good mothers are everywhere. Have you ever wondered as what makes a mother a good mother? The definition of a good mother varies from mother to mother. The most important thing, for her, is to love her children and to make sure they feel loved. A Good Mom ensures that: • A good mom, ensures that the children are raised with proper education and confidence. • Set clear and firm ground rules and work to be a positive role model in kids’ lives. • Be sure to perform self-care and build relationships with supportive people who can be there for you so you can be there for your children. • Praise her children to reinforce positive behaviors or using timeouts or some other form of correction to manage misbehavior instead of spankings. • Is affectionate most often. Dish out plenty of love in the form of hugs, kisses, and words of affirmation. Affection reminds the child that they are loved unconditionally. This results in higher self-esteem, better academic performance, fewer behavioral problems, and an overall stronger relationship between a mother and her child. • Make sure most of the interactions she has with her children is positive and ever-loving. DO NOT FORGET to show affection daily. She knows how to raise healthy, happy kids. • If you have a baby, affection may simply involve holding your infant regularly or speaking reassuringly. • Encourage healthy communication, and children know that she is open to talking with them. Being easily approachable and also limits judgments or criticisms. • Spend quality time with kids. Teach them how to build relationships with each of her kids, when children are tweens or teens, cook together, take a walk, or even do crafts. This reinforceher bond.

A mother is the one whokeeps awake all night with their sick toddlers in their arms, constantly uttering those compassionate words, “It’s OK Sweetie, Mom is here with you. Nothing to fear; nothing to worry • Always validate the plus points/ decisions of the child and make them feel worthy. • Help nurture their interests / hobbies and outlooks, • Give kids the freedom to explore different things without judgment. • Love all the children for who they are. Try toshare quality time, praising, and disciplining each of her kids. • try to promote strong sibling relationships by not comparing one kid to another. • Good mothers avoid showing favoritism, as doing so could lead to aggression, lower self-esteem, and poor academic performance. Plus, playing favorites may turn your kids against one another. Collaborate with the spouse/ partner or co-parent so that all are on the same page. She is a role model: A mom, doesher best to practice what shepreaches.She always reflects a consistent image to her kids. She understands it is an important part of being a good mom. Children repeat behaviors that their parents do, so avoid setting rules and standards for your kids,which you don’t follow yourself.Children follow the parents by example and not by what you preach. Mum should admit when she is in thewrong and apologize. Be a standup mom who understands no one is perfect and is willing to acknowledge your shortcomings. Admitting your own wrongdoings, shows your kids that there’s nothing to be ashamed of about mistakes—as long as they confess up and try to make amends.

some may say “my time.” It sends a message to your kids about the importance of managing stress and caring for oneself. Plus, spending time apart helps you unzipthe daily stress and helps them learn to do things on their own. Explain selfcare to your children and ask them what they do for self-care. This will build a healthy habit in your children.

y…. Mother encourages kids all the time: Every mom is blessed with wisdom to know when to motivate and when to be precisewith their children. Every time, she deals them with an extra dose of patience. She knows that children are a heritage and so shower them with special moments they can cherish through their respective lives. Promote good health and well-being of the family: Make health a major focus area in your household by eating well, exercising, and getting plenty of rest. Encourage your kids to do the same. In case, you have small kids, try joining a gym or recreation center that has a daycare so you can work out. Family can try family bike ride, sports, or activities that promote fitness by getting involved in the community. Don’t put unreasonable pressure on yourself: With the help of your own defense mechanisms learn to take things in your stride and accept your limitations. Instead of trying to be a superhero, try to be good enough. Always remember that I am not perfectand so are others. Stay away from judgmental people or cut down on your social media to the extent possible. At times, continue to re-examine your social circle, as instances of mom-shaming often run widespreadin social groups. If you find that some moms are regularly judging or criticizing others, get some distance from these people. Better alone than in a bad company.

Share responsibilities with your partner: Good moms don’t try to carry the cross of the family on their own. Wisely, they involve a spouse or partner, ask them to share the load with them. If a mum is overtired or overwhelmed, involve the members of the family to take on more duties, so she can rest and recharge. A mother can delegate the tasks to the members of the family as per their capabilities.

A good mother is the one, that always loves her childbut hate his/her bad behavior. Criticize the behavior rather than the child. And work on correcting this flaw in her kids consistently and persistently till desired results are achieved.

Mothers’ day v/s Fathers’ Day celebration: Father’s Day is also celebrated in Canada on the third Sunday of June, when people thank fathers and father figures for the positive contributions they made in their lives. This is an exception that inthis man dominated world, on Mothers’ day, every restaurant in every nook and corner of Surrey BC is booked to the brim, for a mother dinner honor, whereas on Fathers’ day many are vacant.Though, being a man, I feel slightly jealous, but my conscience re-confirms me, a mom, definitely has an edge on a father in the hearts of the children. Conclusion: Mothers and their children are in a category which is unique in itself.

Deepika Padukone finds a spot in TIME’s 100 most influential list

ollywood actor Deepika Padukone has been included in TIME magazine’s esteemed list of 100 most influential men and women across the world. Deepika is the only Indian actor to land a spot in this coveted list. This year, Deepika Padukone saw immense success with the Sanjay Leela Bhansali directorial Padmaavat that went on to become a runaway hit at the box office. In 2017, Deepika made her presence felt in the West when she made her Hollywood debut with xXx: Return of Xander Cage that also starred Vin Diesel. On the TIME website, Vin Diesel writes for Deepika, “When Deepika Padukone came in to read for one of the Fast and the Furious films, I knew instantly I was in the presence of someone very special. As soon as she entered the room, there was a synchronicity, a synergy, a chemistry—it promised great things to come. Her schedule didn’t work for that movie, but I never gave up. She was the first

bhishe Bachchan often accompanied his father and Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan to Kashmir where the legendary actor has shot for many films. Now, when Abhishek is shooting for one of his films in Kashmir, all those memories are coming back. Abhishek Bachchan is shooting for Anurag Kashyap’s Manmarziyan in Kashmir. He said, “It is nostalgic for me because I have come here when my father used to shoot his films here. It is truly a heaven on earth and I am very happy to be back. It is still as beautiful as it used to be.” “I think the kind of production help you get over here, the facilities are fantastic. We have shot so many films; Indian film industry has shot so many films in Kashmir. I have done a fair bit of shooting up in Leh. This is the first time I have done a shooting around Srinagar and Sonamarg,” he added. The release date of Manmarziyan isn’t declared yet. Courtesy: PTI

3 STEPS TO ACHIEVING OPTIMAL HEALTH (Awake With Energy)

Dr. Sammy Oh (PhD DNM AMP CBS)

I

t’s Really possible to Start your day feeling rejuvenated! Wouldn’t it be nice to wake up full of energy and ready to face whatever life throws at you? What if you could? The Great News is that the process is simple, and it doesn’t require a lot of time or effort. The simplicity is what makes the 3 Power

Steps perfect for our hectic lifestyles. There are no supplements or medication needed, and the results are priceless. Seriously! The 3 Power Steps to Boost Your Morning Energy “Take 1” - Alkalinize your body (Boost immune and brain function)

Power Step 1 The Acidic cells and tissues not only develop diseases, but they can also cause chronic fatigue and mental fog. One glass of Alkaline Power Juice will clean out toxins from your cells, increase oxygen and revitalize your energy. Alkaline Power Juice enhances the cellular power system called ATP (Adenosine Triphosphate). ATP is the energy currency of life. With improved ATP, your body has a larger capacity for available energy storage. Recipe for Cleansing: Take ½ freshly squeezed lemon juice and mix it with ½ to 1 tsp of Baking Soda and 250300ml of lukewarm water. (Hint: First start with ½ tsp and increase the amount till you can comfortably use a whole tsp of baking soda) Remember to wait a minimum of 20 mins before eating breakfast. (Note: If you have high blood pressure or a chronic disease, talk to your doctor first, before trying. ) “Take 2”- Gain Energy by Taking ‘Two’ 5-Minute Breaks for Power Breathing. (Want More Power-Squeeze in 5-Minute Breaks? Take more times throughout a day)

Power Step 2 In this fast-paced world, many professionals suffer from stress often brought on by our busy lifestyles. There is nothing that depletes our natural energy as stress does. A hectic lifestyle upsets our nervous system and is referred to as “Autonomic Nervous System(ANS).” Once our ANS is imbalanced, your body goes through the fight or flight mode constantly; often it’s a 24/7 cycle. When this occurs over a long period, it can trigger even more serious health conditions like heart disease, diabetes, anxiety, reduced libido, and depression. The healing recipe is referred to as the 4-1-4 Breathing Method. It’s a simple yet powerful technique. To

regain your energy, you may want to consistently do the method at a minimum of twice a day. The “fight or flight mode” will be significantly reduced. As a result, your body will be much more relaxed. Recipe to Balance ANS: Inhale 4 seconds-Hold that breath for 1 second – Exhale 4 seconds. Use diaphragm (stomach) when breathing. Feel your diaphragm expanding and contracting. Keep 4-1-4 tempo. It’s like a slow dance. Continue feeling your diaphragm. Repeat for 5 min. If you have limited time, even 3 minutes will work, if you do it consistently. This breathing speeds up the restoration of your Nervous System function. When your Autonomic Nervous System function optimally, you will be able to enjoy stronger immune function, deeper sleep, and clearer mental power. “ Take 3” – WATER, Natures GiftKeep hydrated throughout the day (Hint: Not cold water but Lukewarm water)

Power Step 3 Drinking water is vital to our health. While it seems like common sense, it is not a common daily practice for many people. Up to 60% of the human adult body is water. The brain and heart are composed of 73% water. With our hectic schedules often consisting of “packed meetings” and “deadline pressured tasks,” it’s hard to remember to drink water throughout the day. However, when you neglect to hydrate your body, the heart and brain function will be negatively affected by dehydration. It’s vital that you Provide your body the much-needed water that to your brain so that you can maintain peak performance. (Note: Water means, just water. Not juice, coffee, tea or other diuretic or sugar-laden liquids) Seems Pretty simple, right? Try These 3 Simple Power Steps daily. Many people notice a difference in their energy in as little as 3 days! GUILDFORD HEALTH CENTER #32 15300 105th Ave Surrey, BC V3R6A7 Call us: 604-716-4530 www.healthmonitoring.ca
