s I congratulate Sr. Satbir Singh Cheema, on his escalation as a CEO of PICS- a 30 years young, Non Profit Community Organisation- he could not help wearing a satisfied look and started rummaging through the eventful two decades, he spent with this beloved organisation. During initial confabulations, he informed me that he took the first breath of his life in a village named Bariar (Distt Gurdaspur Pb. India) 57 years back. When asked about his formative years in Punjab, he humbly, stated that he did his schooling at Punjab Public School (PPS) Nabha and completed his Engineering Graduate degree (BSc. Engg. with Honors) from Punjab Engineering College Chandigarh in 1981. After serving as a Senior Engineer in ESPL Mohali for a few years, finally he convinced himself to air dash to Canada for further study in 1988. His cousin brothers Dr Gulzar Cheema MD and Mr. Gurlal Cheema, a Realtor, encouraged him to do so. After completing MBA, from Univ. of Manitoba Canada, he left back for India. Finally in 1994, Mr. Cheema came to Canada again, as a landed immigrant. Now being highly qualified, he landed a job as an officer in a financial institution to settle in life. In March 1998, he joined PICS as a Facilitator and by dint of hard work, without fail, leapfrogged to a top notch position i.e CEO.” Life has gone full circle with me on this achievement and PICS is going through the most exciting period of its history as the whole top management is focussing to make Diversity Village-Long term Care centre Surrey- a thumping success.” Stated Mr. Cheema. He has developed strong relations with the local community, stake holders, partners, businesses, media, elected officials, funders and Government Departments. He has represented PICS at various levels – both local and nationally even making a

With this mission statement in mind a precocious adult-38 years youngjoined PICS as a Facilitator and went up the rung to be a man at the top. He happened to be wise enough to serve the cause of community vis- a -Vis make his living. Well done, Mr. Cheema!. Surinder Shaun Kochhar

It was also Satbir who convinced the Canadian Forces to open a Recruiting Office with in PICS Head Office that allowed people in the South Asian Community- choose Canadian Forces as a career. One of Satbir’s biggest achievements has been the conceptualization and implementation of annual Mega Job Fairs for PICS where 75+exhibitors and 6000+ clients have annually participated. Satbir has served as a Board Member with ASPECT (Association of Service Providers for Employability and Career Training) for seven years and with Collaborate Delta for three years and has served as a member of Program Advisory Committee at Vancouver Community College. Satbir has participated and assisted with “Operation Remembrance”, an initiative by RCMP and Canadian Forces to arrange markers for 36 unmarked graves of veterans in Surrey. In 2012, he was presented with the Queen Elizabeth Diamond Jubilee Medal for community service. At present, he is serving as a member of BC RCMP CO’s Cultural Diversity Advisory Committee. supported by his better half, Ms Satnam Kaur Cheema. On hobbies front, Mr. Singh loves to travel and be in the lap of nature. A long drive on a bright day, along with his family members, with scenic beauty for a view, does fascinate him. Moreover, he likes old Hindi songs and Social Service. To help the needy, a deprived one or an unfortunate one is his form of prayer to the Almighty. That’s’ why, he developed a passion Prof. Surinder for this reason. Mr Singh is a Shaun Kochhar Sports enthusiast LPN, FCN, M.Com, CAIIB, DIM (A freelance writer with too. In his teenage 36 Years Exp.) and young adulthood days, he played Soccer, Field Hockey and was a captain of the Athletic team both at school and college level. When asked about the biggest challenge that will seek his top most priority, he stated,”PICS is going through the most exciting time in the history, as it has a humongous project in her hands i.e. to build a Diversity Village in Surrey. “ Mr. Cheema looked very confident and informed in a firm tone that, with an experienced and honest team, we will, in toto, complete the facility in a record time . His body language was very supportive to pronounce, the best is yet to come. He also thanked Mr. Charan Gill MSW, OBC, outgoing CEO for his unflinching support and mentoring under his stewardship. When asked where he see himself after 10 years down the lane of apex leadership, Mr. Cheema took a pause and then hastened to add,” I think by that time PICS will be one of the best Non Profit Community Org. serving as a milestone for others to emulate and a leading house of employment generation, help, comfort and last abode for living , to the elderly in our

Success is not the key to Happiness, Happiness is the key to Success. Happiness comes from Inner Peace, Self Satisfaction and the Love for what you do. There are 2% bad people in every faith. Majority does not pursue this school of thought. I pray to the Almighty we need him for many decades to come. He is a rare blend of medico – spiritual command. Excuse me at the risk of pampering him as I venture to write that, on occasions, I felt he knows better than many spiritual leaders. When he amplifies the spiritual viewpoint with logical science, it is indeed a treat for the lucky listeners. Above all, this 54 year young Child Specialist, is a very good orator also. He has kept the child in him alive as he makes people laugh with anecdotes, small stories et al. Being a religious person from the core of his heart, he recites Guru Granth Sahib Ji at home along with his family daily. He got married in August 1985 and is blessed with three daughters and a son. When I left his company, I felt it was A Better Experience Best Taste.

Vinod Khanna (1946-2017): B
9 little known facts about him
orn in a Punjabi family to Kamla and Kishanchand Khanna, a textiles, dyes and chemicals businessman in Peshawar, Vinod Khanna’s family moved to Bombay when India was partitioned. A villain, a star, a sanyasi and a politician, Vinod Khanna, also known as “the monk who sold his Mercedes” and Swami Vinod Bharti, today succumbed to cancer at the age of 70. Born in a Punjabi family to Kamla and Kishanchand Khanna, a textiles, dyes and chemicals businessman, in 1946, in Peshawar, British India (now in Pakistan), his family moved to Bombay when India was partitioned. Considered as one of the best looking actors in Bollywood, Khanna became popular with the audience and featured in innumerable lead roles. But his love for spirituality soon made him lose his superstardom to Amitabh Bachchan. Talking about the era when he left the B-Town, Khanna had said, ‘‘I have always been a seeker. In the film industry, I had money, glamour, fame but wondered now what? Initially, I visited Osho’s ashram in Pune every weekend. I even diverted shooting schedules to Pune. I was finally initiated on December 31, 1975. When I announced my retirement from films, nobody believed me.” Detailing his stint as sanyasi, he had noted, ‘‘I was Osho’s mali: I am one of the few Indians to have stayed with Osho in Rajneeshpuram, the city he built in America. I spent four years with Osho. I was his gardener, I cleaned the toilets, I did the dishes, and his clothes were tried out on me because we were, physically, of the same stature.’‘ Talking about the end of his spiritual break, Khanna continued, “I went back to Bollywood. Returning to the movies was the easy part. It was leaving my guru in America which was an almost-impossible decision so much attached was I to Osho. He asked me to run the Puna ashram, but I said no. That is the most difficult no I have ever said in my life.’‘

Here are some more lesser-known facts about his life: 1. Before he became popular for the cop roles, Khanna, who is known for his distinct style and persona, made quite an impression as a scowling dacoit in many flicks. The ‘villain-turned-hero,’ who debuted

in Sunil Dutt’s 1968 film Man Ka Meet as a villain, played supporting or low-down characters in the films such as Purab Aur Paschim, Sachaa Jhutha, Aan Milo Sajna and Mastana in 1970 and Mera Gaon Mera Desh and Elaan in 1971. 2. For Mera Gaon Mera Desh (1971), Dharmendra revealed, that Khanna literally bled to infuse realism into the role. 3. Khanna finally got the opportunity to expand his repertoire when Gulzar noticed his ability to meld brute force with emotional vulnerability and cast him in leading roles in Mere Apne (1972) and Achanak (1973). 4. In the songless Achanak (1973), he won rave reviews for his performance, wherein he had to kill his adulterous wife. 5. He attempted risky, offbeat roles too. He broke the taboo about lovemaking in Aruna Vikas’ Shaque (1976), while his mature and complex performance as a murder suspect in the movie was lauded.

6. Between 1971-1982, the actor starred in 47 multi-hero films like Ek Aur Ek Gyarah, Hera Pheri, Khoon Pasina, Amar Akbar Anthony, Zameer, Parvarish and Muqaddar Ka Sikandar. 7. Reportedly, Khanna had landed the Qurbani role in 1980 after Amitabh Bachchan refused it. The film later became the highest-grossing film of that year. 8. Khanna became the first B’Town hero to retire from the films when he was at his peak. His search for spiritual satisfaction took him to Osho. He became a disciple of Osho (Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh) in 1975 and in the early 1980s, he shifted to Rajneeshpuram in the US, where he spent his time cleaning dishes and working as Osho’s gardener. 9. After joining the Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) in 1997, the ‘abhineta-turnedneta’ proved his mettle in politics too. He represented Punjab’s Gurdas Parliamentary seat four times in the Lok Sabha and became the Minister of State for External Affairs in the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government led by former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

SOAR Philanthropic Society
S
OAR Philanthropic Society was founded in 2012 by Saurabh Bangar who was 17 years old at that time. The objective of the non-profit organization was to financially help local graduating high school students attend post secondary. More and more young university and high school students were amazed by SOAR’s work and took part in joining the team of leading the organization. In 2013, SOAR gave out their first $500 scholarship. Over the years the organization grew rapidly, where today there is a team of over 35 youth running the non-profit. Various other projects were also brought under SOAR that have helped thousands of local students in the Lower Mainland. I’m still an outsider in Hollywood: Chris Pratt
C
hris Pratt is the main lead in two of the biggest Hollywood franchises — Jurassic World and Guardians of the Galaxy — and is one of its highest-earning stars, but the American actor still considers himself an outsider in Hollywood. The actor believes “Hollywood has a tendency to homogenize its men and women” and that is why entering showbiz with an outsider’s perspective worked in his favor. “I definitely felt like an outsider (when he started working in the West) and I was (an outsider). I probably
still am (an outsider) in a way, although I spend more time in Los Angeles (LA) than out of LA,” Pratt told IANS during a Disney press meet for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 here. The Disney film will release in India on May 5. Pratt was a homeless man before he rose to stardom. He used to live in a ScoobyDoo van and worked at a seafood restaurant in Hawaii in late 1990s. It was at this restaurant he was discovered by actress Rae Dawn Chong, who then gave him his first film “Cursed Part 3” in 2000.
The 37-year-old asserts that there is “great benefit” being an outsider. He says that “being an outsider is becoming more and more helpful now. People who live in California and LA for a long time… They all become very similar. There is great weather, great food, easygoing attitude, it is pretty progressive, thoughtful and mindful — all that is really great but it doesn’t necessarily make (for) the most diverse, compelling group of actors,” said the star, who grew up in Lake Stevens in Washington state.

Bella Thorne want to use social media to spread goodness
A
ctress Bella Thorne says that she wants to use the social media to spread positivity. The 19-year-old actress, who has a major fan following on the internet, feels that teenagers need to talk to each other about difficult phases they go through in life, reported Harper’s Bazaar.com. “I want to use social media to spread goodness. Teens are all going through different —- and nobody talks to each other about it. So if somebody could just be that first person to lend their hand, then other people will follow,” says Bella. The actress adds that she herself has faced bouts of depression and even had the thoughts of “killing herself”. “I have had really dark thoughts. When I was younger I thought about killing myself; it’s very normal in a way that, if you’re upset with who you are and how your life is going, you could think these things,” she says.

Contd. from previous issue (Part 9) After taking tea, I called my fast friends, Raj and Jassi. They came to see me within a few minutes of receiving my phone calls. Both were yet singles. Meenu joined mom to prepare dinner and Sunny began watching TV programs. I took both, Raj and Jassi, in our main bedroom. I used to share my heart with them. Both felt very sad when I told them my story. I also told them that I was seriously thinking of taking the extreme step. I desisted only when I thought of my parents and siblings. Just then, Meenu brought tea and fritters. All of us became silent. Meenu left to help mom in the kitchen again. “No Sonia! Never ever think of doing so. Did you tell uncle and aunt about it?”, Raj asked me. “I told mom…”, saying this, I couldn’t help crying. “What did she say?”, Jassi asked “She said she would talk to my dad tonight.”, I told them.
“Well, see what they say. We will talk tomorrow.”, Raj said. Then after having tea and snacks, both of them left. There was an old harmonium my grandpa used to play. I had learned a hymn on it in my childhood – Jo mange thakur apne te, soee soee deve (Whatever we demand from our lord, He provides us with the same). I began playing harmonium and singing this holy song. While singing, my heart was sinking with fear. I kept singing for long. The next day, we were at the dining table for breakfast. Meenu had charged the atmosphere with her cheerfulness. Rest all of us were mum. Numerous worrisome thoughts were racing through my mind. After having breakfast, dad left for work. Sunny was watching the cricket match between India and Australia. “I’ll eat my breakfast in the sun on the roof.”, mom said and took her food signalling me to follow her. Meenu was also very fond of cricket matches, so she took her food plate and sat with Sunny before the TV. I followed mom and went upstairs. “Sonia, your dad is very depressed. He was repenting why we trusted your bhua and agreed on this marriage tie. She had gone back to Canada, otherwise we would complain to her. We thought a lot, Sonia. If we take any step now, god knows
what kind of people they are; if they didn’t sponsor you to Canada what would we do? Our hard-earned good reputation will be spoiled with taunts and backbites of people. Suppose, we damn care for the society, what about Meenu’s future?”, mom said. She was right. I realized that living a life was not easy. “Then what shall I do, mom? How shall I cope with this hellish life?” I asked. “Honey, children have no idea what struggles their parents go through to bring them up. You are married now; I can share with you all those things that you can understand, but Meenu cannot. Don’t think that only you have encountered these sort of problems. Only one girl in many hundreds of thousands may be happy. Many of them compromise with their life by-and-by. Many waste their life indulging in this fuss for their shattered dreams. Girls are born with miseries in their plight.”, Mom told me so many personal, her cousins’ and my cousins’ stories that I felt there was much worse happening in the world. My problems were not bigger than those of others. “How different our dream world is from the real one! How unreal stuff our most movies show us!”, I had numerous new realizations in just a few moments. “Sonia, what are you thinking?”, mom asked Contd. in next issue

A Girl in a Whirl
Mother Knows Best
M
other’s Day is a day just to acknowledge, celebrate and thank reverend mothers for their unflinching love and sacrifice for their children. Mother knows bestis a phrase very often used by a mother after giving advice to her children, or after her prediction has come true. It is a maternal instinct and wisdom in a mother that she is right most of the times. Time to honour the mother of the family, as well as mother hood and maternal bonds. Our heartfelt salute to dear mums for their contribution and influence on the society. Long Live Dear Mothers! Long live their children and well-wishers!

Learning to trust is quintessential for having healthy relationships throughout life. We’re not designed to journey through life alone. The daily grind a mothera homemaker, a working mom or an everbusy single mom- faces to keep her kids alive and focused to excel in their chosen field is worth saluting. She is living to see, her children excel and her dream fulfilled. And her children prove daily, by dint of hard work, that the dream is alive and the game is on towards its fruition. Surinder Shaun Kochhar of commitment she keeps on working. The whole family revolves around this motherly fulcrum. Mom a great Chef: Yeah, mum is the best chef in the family. She is a great learner. Apart from her mother she learns from here, there and everywhere. She does not hesitate to learn by trial and error method after watching the idiot box or reading a magazine. I still remember , when during college days, on my way back home, the killing aroma/whiff of basmati rice, baking biscuits used to greet me on the entrance of the house and I used to say” Happy moments are here again.” The food used to be mothelicious. I feel, home is a best place, where a mother is an unpaid-for custodian and a place where all are well cared for. A personal attention, physical affection or words of encouragement, go a long way for kids to outsmart in their lifetime. A mother knows that very well. A clean home, a mothers’ home A mother keeps a home neat, clean and tidy. One of the reasons is to provide an environment a family wants to come home to. As best as she can, a mother creates a welcoming, enticing, scented and soothing atmosphere to speak love to her family. By doing so, she speaks the language of silence. Power of mother love: Instant availability, without continuous presence, is probably the best role a mother can play for kids at home. There is a balance between being there for your children and smothering them with your presence. Children need Mom to be available but not hovering over their lives in such a way that it robs them of their independence and their ability to eventually fly from the nest to make their own. Social media start playing a negative role when things go off the limit. Mother love, shapes family values and culture: A Mother understands the long-lasting impact of family values and culture that influence our young children’s brains. Teaching them first lessons of love, shaping their conscience is of paramount importance. A child should never feel as if they need to earn a mother’s love.
A mother’s love needs to be given unconditionally to establish trust and a firm foundation of emotional intimacy in a child’s life. If love is withheld, a child will look for it in a myriad other ways, sometimes throughout their lifetime unless they come to some sort of peace with their chequered past. The emotional foundationswe give our children at home serve as a foundation to their life. We cannot underestimate the value of home and the bewitching power of a mothers’ love. What goes on to make a good mother? Because she is selfless and have a high degree of patience. She is fiercely protective for her kids. She can be a tiger mom also. The phrase “tiger mom” is defined as a strict disciplinarian mother who demands high achievement from her children and maintains control of their activities.A single mom, being more concerned with the future of kids, may fall in this category. What lies in the heart of an ideal mother? An ideal mother knows how a relationships work at its best. She knows that her relationship will always work if she keeps trust ahead of doubt, love ahead of ego and mutual respect ahead of expectations. These inherent qualities in a mother make her most adorable factor in the family as she lead by example. Golden heart of a mother Mother love is very hard to explain. There is a story in Indian culture, as a metaphor, to explain a mothers’love. A young boy was madly in love with a girl who was not interested in him. She wanted to get rid of him. She asked the boy, in case he loves her more than anybody, he has to prove it. The boy said I am ready to do anything you want to me to prove my love for you. The girl stated” Go and bring your mothers’ heart and then I will marry you.” The boy went, as the metaphoric story goes, and killed her mother. He took the heart out and started running towards the girl to prove her love for her. While he was running, he fell, and heart also fell out of his hands. While he was on the floor, pat came a concern from the mothers’heart,” Are you OK, my son. I hope you are not hurt.” This is mother, who can forgive any action of yours and care/bless you even when bleeding dead. Who takes care of Mom? In thisvying age of competition and high tech world, grown up children are fighting their daily battle for a respectful living and may not devote as much time as a mother expects in the light of the fact that they have their own family to look at. Accordingly,a mom has to learn the art of self-care i. e taking care of you. No one else can do a better job at self-care than you, yourself. You have to successfully face the challenges of your day to day life including job, if you are working. As a mother, she also have to identify what best refuels her emotionally and physically to equip herself to be a successful mom. For this an able, wise partner hasa big role to play.
Excuse me at the risk of pampering women folk, as I venture to write thatit is mothers who gave birth to the world population; nurtured thisUniverse to its present bliss and without a mother the world will not be worth looking at. Surinder Shaun Kochhar One of the family wheel named mother, need another matching wheel-a partner- of the same diameter of understanding and ideal air pressure of love, so that kids/ family can experience a safe and smooth ride called LIFE. Mother an unpaid lawyer: During my school days, my reverend mother used to behave likes a fierce protector for me while dealing with my dad-even when, sometimes- I was partly in the wrong. But in camera, she used to guide and advise me in a little harsh tone with teary eyes. Her words used to leave an indelible mark on my mind than my dads’ displeasure. After my moms’ occasional anger nay displeasure, the hug she used to give me to make me cool, calm, composed and collected; I still feel the cozy warmth of the same, followed by a treat. Mother a mourner: My heart comes in my mouth, when I think of the plight of those mothers who lost their children in school /violence shootings and berserk killings under the garb of religion. Some have become motherless and some have disabled children in front of them all the time. Words fail me to explain their predicament and how heavy they feel on this auspicious day which hurt them more than to provide a relief. Only time and God may heal such a bereaved mother. Conclusion: we cannot underestimate the power of mother love, the value of home and the significance of her availability/ presence in the home. Finally, through this article, I wish all the young and aged mothers, working

t’s that time of the year when we try and answer the eternal style conundrum: Why does nearly everyone instantly look more attractive with sunglasses on? A new research has tried to put science to sensibility. Vanessa Brown, senior lecturer at Nottingham Trent University and author of Cool Shades: The History and Meaning of Sunglasses, found in her research that shades make everyone look attractive. Her conclusion: sunglasses give instant symmetry to your face. The dark lenses cover up any asymmetrical oddities, and research on facial attractiveness shows a clear link between symmetry and our
perception of beauty. A GLASS ACT Designer Ritu Beri concurs, “The right pair of sunglasses help you focus on the jaw line, and make it look sharp and chiseled. They hide your eyes and add a

Once you shade the eyes, you grab the eyeballs, as designer Esha Sethi Thirani puts it. “The eyes are a big source of vulnerability. Wearing sunglasses is like keeping a secret, a mystery from the world,” she adds. Style blogger Samantha Rathore calls them a truly modern accessory. “Sunglasses give you emotional protection as well,” she says. And adds how celebrities wear it all the time to hide their vulnerability and people deploy it to hide tears too. GLARES GYAN Square face? Pick round or oval sunnies in dark frames Oval face? 7 things to do for a happy and
healthy relationship T
hose in a relationship always look for the right spark and those who are willing to be in a relationship, look for the right goal. It may take years for a relationship to turn into a ‘lived happily ever after’ story, but it takes only few minutes to break the walls and part ways off. So for those who are looking for tips to a healthy relationship, here are seven such things you can do to make your bond stronger. 1.Put mobiles away when you are together: Now day’s social networking happens mostly through mobile phones. Keep your mobiles and social networking tools like Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp etc aside when you two are lazing around and spending quality time together. Mobile phones can bring a lot of distraction in communication. Forget the gadget world and indulge in some special talks. You will surely have a lot to share and lot to express to each other. 2. Spend less time in front of the television: It is good for couples to watch TV together, but spending too much time in front of the idiot box can shift your mind from other important things or the person next to you. When both of you are together at home, try to spend time together by sitting over a cup of tea/coffee, listening to music, engaging in romantic acts like cuddling and caressing each other, and making vacation plans. 3. Explore your culinary skills together: Love can happen in

kitchen! Try to cook a dish together as it will keep both of you engaged in the same act and in the same place for a long time. In the middle of cooking, share a warm hug and a gentle kiss to make the environment more romantic and not boring. Know each other’s food choices before heading for a cooking and dining date. 4. Sit together over tea in the morning: Sipping morning tea/ coffee together can do wonders to a relationship. Before you head for a busy day and hectic work schedule, spend some time together in the morning and keep yourself engaged in small talks. If time permits, have breakfast together and proceed for work like usual. Keep stress and worries

Decoding the dress code not blend in. GET THE FIT RIGHT Wear clothes that are well-made and fit right. Oversized clothes look shabby. Clothes that are too tight can be restrictive and highlight areas they shouldn’t. These need to be altered or replaced. Tip: Invest in crease-free pieces. UNIFORM APPEAL A lot of companies have guidelines, which are a brand building exercise and help create an image and corporate identity. When there’s a uniform, don’t make changes to the code. To stand out, keep your uniform looking crisp and maintain it well. Tip: When you wear a uniform, it’s not about you, but your company image - respect it.
‘universal’ you look the better. Dress in clothes that are globally accepted as regular office or work wear. FOR AFTER HOURS If you are going for a drink or party immediately after work change one strong element in your look. Men can lose the tie, roll up the sleeves and unbutton the shirt, while women can add a scarf, stole or some colour to their makeup. AVOID... • T-shirts with tongue-in-cheek messages • Garments with prominent branding • Loud and busy prints • Flip-flops • Shorts
FRIDAY DRESSING The idea for Friday dressing is to retain the formal feel with a more relaxed weekend accent in your clothes. This can often be misunderstood. Just think of it as a casual take on your everyday dressing - think chinos, loafers and casual sweaters. Tip: When in doubt, ape what the boss wears on Fridays. DON’T BE BORING Make a conscious effort to look and dress distinctly different from the rest. Besides black and white, you can wear colours like subtle shades of blue, brown, green or grey, even a hint of red. Avoid gold, silver and other metallic tones. Tip: Change it up by rethinking colour combinations.

DON’T BLEND IN Your work wardrobe should reflect who you are, but should never give away what you do. So if you are a banker, don’t kit out in a standard three-piece suit. If you have no code, use your clothes to create an image. Tip: Dress in a way that you stand out,

They look best on maxi dresses as they balance out the shoulders and the long silhouette gives an overall svelte look.

his season, it’s all about statement sleeves. From Deepika Padukone to Alia Bhatt, everyone’s sporting this trend. Bonus: this trend can actually make your arms look thin too—as the flowy and big silhouettes can make give an illusion of slimmer and toned arms. We got in touch with Tanvi Malik, CEO and Co-Founder of FabAlley on how to work the statement sleeves.
Kimono Sleeves Borrowed from the traditional Japanese garment, Kimono sleeves have a wide sloping shape. As the name suggests, it is worn to give a kimono or cape type effect to an outfit. It helps balancing out heavy upper body and arms. Kimono gives a heavy upper body look, thus it should be paired with fitted jeans.
Bell Sleeves These can be either long or short as they flare toward the bottom hem. They help balance out a bulky upper body and are also great for shrinking shoulders that are broad. Opt for narrow silhouettes such as pencil skirts or jeggings to balance out the overall proportion of your bell sleeve top. Bishop Sleeves The Bishop Sleeve is a large sleeve which is fuller at the bottom than the top and gathered at the cuff. It gives a bohemian look to an outfit and is used for dramatic

Is chewing gum bad for you?
E
arlier, chewing gum was made of a substance called Chicle. Chicle is a latex sap that comes from the sapodilla tree (native to Central America). In other words, Chicle is a form of rubber. After 1945,scientists came up with an artificial gum base which is made of a synthetic rubber as a substitute for Chicle. Modern chewing gum is composed of a gum base- a synthetic rubber, sweeteners, softeners/ plasticizers, flavors, colors, and, typically, a hard or powdered polio coating. Its texture is reminiscent of rubber because of the physical-chemical properties of its polymer, plasticizer, and resin components, which contribute to its elastic-plastic, sticky, chewy characteristics.
The beauty, nay, tragedy of this world is, people use artificial flavor to kick away bad breath or refreshing a car or a room and a real lemon-a finger bowl-to wash off the grease, after eating a meal. Surinder Shaun Kochhar

Demerits of chewing gum:
When it comes to chewing gum, which millions use almost daily, then time is opportune for us to understand the science and reasoning behind it. The main demerits are:Chewing gum pushes you to crave for sweets: We human beings, have around 10000 sweet buds in the mouth and down there. As per experts a strong correlation exists between a person’s customary intake of a flavor and his preferred intensity for that flavor. Chewing gum can be addictive: Sweet tastes, activate the same reward pathways (gives pleasure) in the brain that are triggered with drug addiction. In a study when rats were given two preferences i.e. whether to choose cocaine or saccharin sweetenedwater, the 94% of the rats chose sweetened water. BOLLYWOOD
Shah Rukh finds it tough to describe himself
S
uperstar Shah Rukh Khan has confessed that he doesn’t know what to say when someone asks him to describe himself in one word or in one minute. The actor said it has taken him over 50 years to “understand about 10 per cent” of himself, so how can he express it to people within a minute. “When in a 30-seccond or a one-minute byte, I am asked ‘Can you describe Shah Rukh Khan in one word as a person?’ This is something I don’t know at all. How do I describe anyone, let alone me, in one word and that also in a one-minute interview? It has taken me 52 years to understand about 10 per cent of who I am, let alone try to express it to people within a minute,” Shah Rukh said in a statement. The actor, who enjoyed success
at the box office with “Raees” and “Dear Zindagi” — which will air on Zee Cinema — also shared two other questions that journalists
tend to repeat while interviewing him. “First is ‘What is the practical joke you played on another artist on
the set?’ Well, my age for practical jokes is over and not many people come on the set to do practical jokes. We just have a good time and laugh. I am not saying it’s a bad question, it’s just that I don’t have an answer to it,” the “Dilwale” star said. Shah Rukh said that he is often asked, “‘what’s next?’ Well, this is next; this is what I am doing right now”. “What’s next will come next and at that time I will come and talk to you about it. This kind of throws me out. Because I normally do one film at a time and this is the one most important thing right now, so I will talk about this. What’s next, I will discuss in detail when it happens,” he added. SRK is currently busy filming director Imtiaz Ali’s tentatively titled “The Ring” opposite actress Anushka Sharma.
Gauhar Khan:
I have broken all norms, plan to break more
B
ollywood actress and ‘Bigg Boss’ winner Gauhar Khan said she was advised not to do a lot of things but she has “broken all the norms and plans to break even more”. “People told me not to do ‘Bigg Boss’, I did it and won the show. Then I was told that if in my first film I am not opposite Ranbir Kapoor I should not do the film, I did that and my character was the most remembered female character. “Then people told me that if I do only songs I will be tagged as an item girl but I have broken all the norms... I plan to break still more,” said Gauhar, who was speaking at a press conference on the success of her film “Begum Jaan”. “If you can dream it you can achieve it, if you can believe it you can achieve it,” Gauhar added

further. Gauhar Khan’s “Begum Jaan”, which is a period drama film, written and directed by National Award-winning director Srijit Mukherji, was released on April 14 and got a good response from the audience. The movie stars Vidya Balan in the lead role. “I am a very big fan of Vidya Balan and I got a compliment that even in her presence, my role was distinct, I feel very humbled,” Gauhar said. Gauhar khan is well-known for her films like “Ishaqzaade”, “Rocket Singh” and “Fever”. She was also the winner of “Big Boss Season 7”, a reality show on Colors TV.

Movie Review:
Begum Jaan CAST: Vidya Balan, Ila Arun, Gauahar Khan, Pitobash Tripathy, Pallavi Sharda, Chunky Pandey, Ashish Vidyarthi, Rajit Kapoor and Naseeruddin Shah DIRECTION: Srijit Mukherji BEGUM JAAN STORY: On the eve of Independence, the chairman of the Border Commission, Sir Cyril Radcliffe decides to divide India and Pakistan into equitable halves. What the administration doesn’t account for is the line running through the middle of Begum Jaan’s(Vidya Balan) brothel situated plonk on the border; with one half falling in India and the other in Pakistan. BEGUM JAAN REVIEW: It’s a good period and story to revisit because even 70-years after Partition, anything around it still piques interest. Then again, here the narrative deals less with the horror of the divide and serves more as an ode to the spiritedness of Begum; widowed in her childhood and sold to a brothel. Also, Mukherji is revisiting his Bengali film Rajkahini(2015). Coming back to our protagonist – kings, administrators and commoners are hooked onto the pleasures provided by her girls, so Begum with her guile manages to rule. Till, Radcliffe draws the Lakshman-Rekha. Vidya invests fully in Begum and her dialogue-baazi (a lot of which is raunchy) will get ceetis. However, the writer-director’s interest level in everything else, falters. A sense of dejavu pervades as one watches a prostitute staring sightlessly at the ceiling when “entertaining” a customer; or when sex-workers get sentimental over a child, “because all of them are mothers first and whores later.” Surely these women needed to be fleshed out with more finesse. Begum’s spunk is infectious though. She resembles a Bengal tigress whether she is defending her body or boundaries. However, trying to retell her virtues through various historical avatars in animation, is far too

indulgent. Also conversations between officials of the INC and Muslim League, or for that matter between other cardboard cutouts, are superficial. The cinematographer’s effort to capture the Indo-Pak divide with close-ups in half frames, seems amiss. The Holi number is peppy with striking visuals. Otherwise having the 11 women in one frame becomes nothing but a screech-fest. Having Vidya in a film is an asset though. She is an audacious actor, who merits an extra half star for her ability to shoulder a film.
