FAQs REGARDING ONE MILLION LIFE INSURANCE WITH ½ MILLION GUARANTEED CASH VALUES A new plan with the unique features of the extremely remarkable life insurance plan launched on 7th Sept. UV Insurance Company’s Whole Life High Values|20-Pay Guaranteed Values policy was just introduced in 2022. While the plan is impressive, as a prospective client, you may have questions about it. I hope the following questions and answers clear up any confusion: For how long shall we have to pay? You shall have to pay for a minimum of 20 years. Cash value is 50% of the insurance amount at the age of 65 or after 20 - Pay for ages 46 and older. Can we buy the lower face amount or shall we have to buy one million dollar coverage? No, it’s not mandatory to buy a million-dollar coverage. As per your own affordability, you can purchase coverage for lower amounts starting from $50,001. The great feature is that the cash value will be half the amount of coverage at age 65. For example, for 100,000 coverage 50,000 cash value; for 200,000 coverage- 100,000 cash value and; for 500,000 coverage 250,000 cash values at age 65in all cases, if you buy the plan before age 45. Through which insurance company do you do this insurance? The Whole Life High Values|20-Pay Guaranteed Values insurance plan in which the cash values at age 65 are ‘Guaranteed’, half of the sum insured, is offered by UV Insurance. Since when has this UV Insurance Company been in existence? UV Insurance has been in the insurance business since 1889. Recognized in the insurance and financial services market for its financial strength, UV Insurance has a solvency ratio of more than 200% and has a strength of more than 250,000 members. UV Insurance is a member company of Assuris.

6

Founded as a not-for-profit organization in 1990, Assuris is designated by the federal Minister of Finance under the Insurance Companies Act of Canada. It protects Canadian policyholders if their life insurance company fails. If I cancel my policy after five years, will I get something back? No, you won’t get anything. Term Life insurance is usually for short-term and Permanent Insurance is for long term needs. If you cancel an insurance policy within nine years, there are no cash values and you will lose all the money. But, if you are planning insurance for a short-term period, it’s better to buy some Term Insurance such as Term 10, 20, 30 or till age 40. It should be kept in mind though - you cannot treat your life insurance as a bank account that can be encashed within 3-4 years. It doesn’t go like that - Life insurance is a long-term plan. When does the cash value start building up? The cash values in the Whole Life High Values|20-Pay Guaranteed Values plan starts building up after nine years and the biggest attraction of the plan is

www.entertainmentmagazine.ca

that at age 65, cash values will be half of the face value and it’s guaranteed (applicable before age 45). Once the market fluctuates in case the interest rate goes down or if the company doesn’t make any income, will my cash values at age 65 change or reduce? No. Whole Life High Values|20-Pay Guaranteed Values life insurance contract is a guaranteed and permanent plan. It doesn’t fluctuate with the fluctuating interest rate of the market and also, doesn’t depend upon the income of the insurance company. The premium payment option is for 20 years, if the market fluctuates, nothing can be changed. The life insurance contract is ‘fully guaranteed’. What options do I have, especially at age 65 if I want to withdraw the money? You have a few options: a) You can fully surrender the contract and encash the money/ funds but tax will be applicable. The surplus of the total ACB will be imposed in relation to the total net surrender value. b) You can partially cancel the policy as per your requirement

and encash the money from time to time. Tax will be applicable. The pro rata surplus of the total ACB will be imposed in relation to the total net surrender value. c) You can borrow against the cash values. In case of a loan, the excess of the ACB is taxable. cont. in next edition This article is © copyrighted 2022-10-20 and can be reproduced only with prior permission. EDUCATION THAT EMPOWERS SAFETY BOLT Safety Society launches Project Lyghtnyng

BOLT Safety Society is a youth-founded, federally-registered not-for-profit building safer and equitable communities. The organization endeavors to end violence, harassment, and abuse through a variety of community-focused programming.

G

lobally, 1 in 3 women have experienced physical or sexual violence in their lifetimes (UN Women). Nationally, intimate partner violence is the most common kind of violence women experience (BC Government). Despite such an alarming status quo, there remains a lack of education on topics pertaining to personal safety and well-being, fostering cultures of consent, and awareness about available support systems and resources. At BOLT Safety Society, young advocates are working on a solution to ratify this knowledge gap.

“You could say BOLT Safety is a tech startup meets non-profit, whereby we centralize a database of survivor-centric resources and on-the-ground programming onto our digital platform, available through a mobile app or any web browser”, said Executive Director Vedanshi. To help promote safety in the local community, the student team officially launched Project Lyghtnyng on October 22nd. This series of educational workshops aims to decrease violence and abuse through informing a culture of consent, promoting inclusion by flipping victim-blaming narratives, increasing access to resources,

and fostering allyship. Project LyghtNyng offers workshops on a variety of topics, customizable by the audience demographic. Their launch was well-attended by educators, representatives from other non-profits, and supportive community members keen on seeing their program succeed. “According to the UN, in 2021, 81,000 women and girls were killed. This means that every 11 minutes, 1 wom-

an or girl was killed. Our event today is two-hours long”, said Shreyanshi, Operations Director of the BOLT Safety Society and Manager of Project LyghtNyng, at the program launch event. While still in its early stages, Project LyghtNyng has already delivered workshops in 2 countries, to 7 organizations, and to over 150 participants. The team looks forward to spreading awareness and educating everyone on preventing abuse, harassment, and sexual violence. Any organization, institution, or company can book a workshop. Those interested in bringing a safety educational workshop to their place of work or schooling may visit boltsafety.org/workshops to learn more and book a workshop. All about canine brucellosis In this month’s article, we will be discussing a very contagious bacterial infection that occurs in dogs, known as ‘Brucellosis’.

T

his infection is caused by the bacterium known as ‘Brucella canis’. It is a sexually transmitted disease, which primarily affects the reproductive system of dogs. Other methods of contracting the disease would be through inhalation, by sniffing any

contaminated urine or other discharges), along with entry through the mucous membranes. The disease is most commonly seen in intact male dogs. However, even females are susceptible to contracting the bacteria. Signs, related to the reproductive tract being affected, would present as abortions and infertility issues. Male dogs will present with epididymitis. They may experience an enlarged scrotum or testicle, with a rash present as well. Comparatively, female dogs will have their infection concentrated at their uterus, causing them to become infertile and abort in the last trimester of their pregnancy. If you feel that your dog may be experiencing this condition, then we highly recommend a visit to your local veterinarian for a consult. Due to the highly contagious nature of this disease, it is important to also have any other canine companions, within the household, examined as well. If your veterinarian suspects that your dog may be presenting with Canine Brucellosis, then he or she may conduct a blood test, known as ‘Rapid Slide Agglutination Test’. In the case of your dog being confirmed positive for the disease, treatment would entail antibiotics. However, it is important to note that antibiotics will only help to control the spread of the infection. There is no recorded cure for this disease; therefore, once a dog is infected with this

bacterium, he is infected for life. Fortunately, Canine Brucellosis is rarely found within Canada; however, it is prevalently seen in the United States. If you are planning to travel to the states with your canine pet or move across the border, then it is important to keep these facts in mind. As mentioned, since an infected dog would be considered to be positive for life, it is vital to always test any breeding dogs for this bacterium, before allowing for the breeding process to take place. Any new dogs that are being introduced to a kennel system should also be tested in order to avoid the spread of the disease. Another major point to note is that this disease is in fact zoonotic. Zoonotic diseases are those that can be spread from infected animals to humans. Transmission to humans is also through contact with contaminated discharges or blood. Therefore, those that are considered to be immunocompromised individuals, should avoid any dogs infected with this disease.

Every relationship has its ups and downs. While having these moments of crisis, it is important to identify the reasons behind them and act on them in a timely manner.

24

1. Take time to communicate Communication involves spending some face-to-face time, away from all the distractions, including your work and social media. Listen to what the other person has to say instead defending yourself. Don’t interrupt until your partner has finished speaking. Avoid using phrases like “You always ..”, “I wasn’t wrong …” or “You never …”. Such phrases show that you aren’t really listening and believe that you aren’t at fault. Be quiet, pay attention, nod often, and use your body language to show that you are listening. 2. Be Honest When things go south, we tend to cover up our mistakes and justify our actions. But in fact, we should be doing the opposite. If you have made a mistake, don’t hide it because of the fear of repercussions. Own up to it and tell your partner what really happened. While they may resent you in the beginning, they

will appreciate your honesty and come to terms with the situation. Also, it’s always better they hear it from you rather than someone else. 3. Prioritize your relationship While it’s easy to get caught up in your own life, making an effort to focus on the relationship is one of the most important reasons why relationships thrive. No matter how busy life gets, plan activities together and spend time out for each other. Movie night, date night, weekend getaways, and even small, thoughtful gifts can go a long way. 4. Respect one another There comes a time when you start believing what you do or think is more important. This is dangerous. Relationships thrive on mutual respect. Respect your partner’s job, lifestyle, beliefs, principles, and opinions, even if they differ from yours. At the very least, spend some time to understand what your partner does and how they feel. That shows you’re making an effort out of respect. 5. Don’t let money drive a wedge between you Issues with money in a relationship often lead to nasty fights

and pointing fingers at the lifestyle of the other person isn’t unsupportive and not recommended. If your financial situation isn’t good, then be ready to make some lifestyle changes instead of simply expecting the other person to change theirs. Sit together, and map out your financial situation with pure honesty. Decide which person will be responsible for handling which costs and what would each person be willing to give up. Set some money aside for each of you to spend at your discretion. No one likes to constantly account for every single penny they spend. 6. Don’t fight over household chores Most couples in relationships have work outside of their homes. Expecting one partner to take care of all household chores is unrealistic. Instead, map out your respective jobs while at home. Often, there are chores that neither partner likes to take up. In such cases, be open to considering other options, or taking turns doing the chore in question. This is how you can be organized and fair to one another, eventually avoiding any resentment building up over time. 7. Build trust When a loved one does something unexpected that ends up hurting us, we feel betrayed and don’t trust the other person anymore. Trust is critical to any relationship. If you and your partner don’t trust each other, make an effort to build it. Be consistent, truthful, and deliver on your promises. Don’t dig up old wounds. Consider everything you say as once you’ve said something hurtful, you cannot take it back. There are always problems in any relationship. But if you pay attention and take some measures to resolve your issues, you can save your relationship. Be realistic, caring, understanding, and willing to do what it takes to fix your relationship.

dmit it, curls have become the new “It” hairstyle! Celebs, influencers, and TikTok stars love sharing the best way to curl and maintain those locks on their channels. Curly hair is beautiful but not necessarily easy to take care of. When it comes to styling them, there are so many options to choose from; hair gels, conditioners, creams, hair sprays and whatnot. And yes, it can get confusing, resulting in us lazy souls sporting that mundane bun, again! But not anymore, as Dhruv Madhok and Dhruv Bhasin, founders of Arata shares with IANSlife how you can style and enhance those big curls. Just let them be! One thing that we strongly believe in is enhancing your curls and not taming them! Your natural curls are beautiful and

Styling curls? Do it like a pro! look their best in their natural state! After a quick shampoo and conditioner, apply the Arata Advanced Curl Care Curly Hair Cream on damp hair as it defines your natural curl pattern and moisturizes them. Let them dry naturally and live their best life! Some texture ft. some color Curly hair can take a lot of time to grow. Well, not really, as your hair is growing but it takes forever before you see a noticeable change in your length because it keeps getting curlier. So cutting them might be the last thing on your mind when looking for a change. Get them dyed instead! It’s the best way to change your look completely without losing inches. There are many options: highlights,

lowlights, e-girl hair, crown color, etc. And colors? Red, blonde, pink, blue- the possibilities are endless! Get knotty! On the days you want to take a break from that big hair bun, add another one. No, really! Simply part your hair from the middle, take one section of it, and tie it up in a tiny bun. Then, repeat on the other side. You can also let some hair

loose and tie a smaller section of the hair and that’s it. Use the Arata Advanced Curl Care Curly Hair Cream to tame flyways, as it gives a much-refined look. These 90s-inspired space buns have their cult following. After all, it hardly takes five minutes to nail this look! Accessorize it right On the days your curls are living their best life and not letting you style them the way you want to, just accessorize them. Spray a detangling spray or apply a serum all over your hair to detangle it, then comb your hair backwards and secure it with a statement headband or a bandana. Another great option is to add a pop of color by wearing tiny hair accessories. By: IANSLife November 2022

A Girl in a Whirl Continued from issue (Part 68) “First, brothers and sisters fight with each other in their childhood. After marriage, husband and wife fight with each other almost all their life. I have seen my bhapa (father) and bibi (mother) rant all their life. My bibi never listened to my bhapa. Then she created misunderstandings between us. God knows why our elders create conflicts among their own children instead of solving their problems?”, Sam contemplated again. I realised how Sam and I had begun seeing eye to eye. I was extremely happy to see Sam talking wisely. “Sam, one gets wise not by eating almonds but by striving to survive.”, I commented humorously. “hahahahahaha! Good

joke, but that’s the truth too. Can’t this wisdom be imparted through education?”, Sam questioned and I completely agreed with him. Seeing Nancy sleepy, I asked to go to the bedroom. We both lay on the bed after putting Nancy between us. I was caressing Nancy’s head. Sam was fingering my trusses. “I mistreated you so much unwittingly. If my son-inlaw does the same to my Nancy, I shudder even to think of it. Sonia, how would we find a nice boy for our Nancy who could keep her always happy? What If she had a love marriage? It’s not necessary that her choice would be right. How do our feelings change after becoming parents! And so much! I think we should ask her to go for higher studies so that she is mature enough

by the time she marries.”, Sam, contemplating Nancy, suddenly turned very serious. “Sam. Let’s both read gurbani in the morning and evening so that god always protects all of us everywhere.”, I said. “Yes, Sonia. I’ll also start reading gurbani everyday.“, Sam promised and I felt elated. Our two souls were becoming one. Continued in next edition

7 quirky ways to style a saree Sarees are no longer merely traditional Indian clothing. Experimenting with the saree to get the perfect and unique look has given rise to new quirky trends and revived the appearance of this classic Indian garment. Let’s have a look at some interesting and fun saree ideas.

Belt it Belt saris are popular these days. Simply put on your saree as usual and add a belt that cinches around your waist at your pallu. A Kamar bandh could be worn instead of the belt for a more traditional look. Dhoti style This is another saree design that is gaining popularity due to its distinct appearance. It differs from a traditional saree in that the bottom has a dhoti-style weaving, and a legging must be worn inside instead of a petticoat. Mermaid-inspired A lovely drapery technique that spreads out the lower half of the pleats to resemble a mermaid’s tail. This saree appears to need a lot of effort, yet all it requires are a few more tucks and pleats. The Saree with pants In addition to its flashy appearance, a saree with a pant

design is also incredibly comfortable. It is great if you want to stand out throughout the wedding season! Pallu in front In this saree style, the pallu is worn back to front rather than front to back. This pallu pattern stands out without compromising the saree’s individuality. Gown style, pre-stitched If you want to pull off this style effectively, you must have a killer blouse. You can experiment with your blouse as much as you want with the pre-stitched gown design. Consider embellishments such as sequins, a net, a jacket-style bodice or a peplum-style bodice. Placing a brooch on a saree If you want to present your best face in terms of styling, go a slightly different route. Get a trendy brooch and pin it to your pallu for a fashionable look. By: N. 5 reasons why you should opt for laser skin rejuvenation

L

aser toning is a cutting-edge cosmetic procedure that is secure, efficient, and helpful in treating a range of skin issues. For the treatment of hyperpigmentation, chickenpox scars, dark spots, sunspots, fine lines, and wrinkles as well as for improving skin tone, texture, and color, this technique is quite popular. As it encourages the subdermal production of elastin and collagen protein, this treatment delivers encouraging results and helps the skin look brighter, plumper, rejuvenated, and even-toned. If you’re thinking about having your first laser toning session, Dr. Geeta Grewal, a cosmetologist shares reasons as to why you should: It improves skin tone and texture: These days because of UV rays, skin tone is greatly affected. Laser toning treatment helps to come out of these problems in a very simple and effective way.

It reduces the pore sizes: Large pores leave our skin looking tired and irritated, and it seems that no matter how many products we use, none of them get the job done. With the help of laser skin toning these issues would be easily resolved. It smooths out wrinkles and fine lines: Laser skin toning for resurfacing skin will remove wrinkles. These treatments are specifically useful for minimizing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles on the forehead, around the eyes and around the mouth. It gives younger look and healthier skin: As the skin surface gets rejuvenated, it imparts a glorious glow to the skin. Less imperfection to your skin accentuates real beauty of your skin and enhances and highlights sharp features of your face. Tight and glowing skin is synonymous with youthful beauty.

It improves the appearance of acne scarring and age spots: The more we age, fewer results are observed related to application of topical products like skin serums and creams. Thanks to our smiling etiquettes, we gather large volumes of fine lines

and wrinkles near our mouth and eyes. Laser toning is specially targeted to fight wrinkles, and one can see prominent visible reduction in fine lines and wrinkles after going through this treatment. By: Dr. Geeta Grewal

Five reasons to include serums as beauty essentials Hyaluronic acid and glycolic acid, two very small molecules, are used to create serums, which are thin moisturizers. Small molecules make it simpler for the skin to rapidly absorb the serum. Comparing serums to other common face moisturizers is really difficult.

T

hey contain fewer lubricating and thickening agents and do not contain moisturizing compounds like petrolatum or mineral oil. Since most serums are lightweight, they are ideal for layering. They are designed to address particular issues like increasing collagen production, reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, and removing dark spots. They come in a wide range of formulations, including as gels, oils, and light creams, but they can also occasionally be water-based. As serums penetrate deeper into the skin, they provide much more hydration than our usual moisturizers. Primary ingredients like hyaluronic acid and glycolic acid lock in the moisture, keeping the skin smooth and soft for a long. Using a serum before a moisturizing cream at night gives the skin a healthy glow.

SONU HAIR CUT For Men & Women ESTD. 1997

Serums contain anti-inflammatory ingredients that soothe sensitive patches on the skin. Besides that, they also benefit by eliminating skin blemishes such as acne scars, pigmentation, and dark circles, thereby brightening the skin. Many active ingredients present in these serums help in revitalizing the skin by fighting aging issues like wrinkles and fine lines. It is recommended to use serums at night to maximize the benefits. AHAs like the glycolic acid present in serums helps in getting rid of dark spots. Glycolic acid stimulates cell renewal and reduces dark spots, and hyperpigmentation, resulting in an even skin tone. One can cleanse their face with a foaming cleanser and follow it up with a serum and conclude it with a day cream in the morning and a night cream before going to bed. Follwing this regimen can bring great results. Serums also protect the skin from further damage by shielding the skin from the UV rays of the sun and pollution that can result in premature aging. We cannot discount the advantages of serums, regardless of your skin type or the issues you want to address with your complexion. It’s time to include serum in your skincare routine if you’ve been hoping to have young, plump skin that glows. By: Dr. Rashmi Shetty www.entertainmentmagazine.ca

Remembrance Day

Honoring those who gave their lives to serve our country... On November 11th each year, Canadians stand in collective remembrance of all who have fallen in the military service of their country. There are many ways Canadians can take a moment on this day to honour and thank all who served, and to remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice for the freedoms we enjoy today. the Rouse wakes the Fallen and raises them above their mortal duties to rest in peace. 4 The Act of Remembrance The symbolic ceremony finishes with an officiate reciting of the Act of Remembrance. They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old; Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning We will remember them. To which all participants respond with “We will remember them.” With inputs from: wwwlegion.ca

A

t the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, Canadians pause to observe two minutes of silence to honour the Fallen. At the stroke of eleven, people across the country join to collectively pause to honour, thank, and remember the people who have sacrificed their lives. This sacred moment also symbolizes Canada standing sentry in silence as the Fallen rest. By remembering, we pay tribute to members of the Canadian Armed Forces and RCMP who served to defend our values and

freedoms. We also honour those who continue to serve our country today. Ceremony and symbolism The Two Minutes of Silence is a poignant moment in the Remembrance Day Service that incorporates symbolic association in a brief, non-religious ceremony. 4 The Last Post A bugler plays The Last Post, signifying the calling home of the spirits of the Fallen to rest. The Last Post originally was played during the war times to signal the camp was secured for the

night. It was also played to call out to wounded or separated soldiers at the end of a battle, to guide them home to safety and rest. 4 The Lament At the National Remembrance Day Ceremony, a bagpiper plays The Lament, symbolizing the sounds of spouses and children crying over their dead followed by a two-minute silence. 4 The Rouse The end of the two minutes of silence is signalled by the bugler playing the Rouse. The Rouse was originally used to wake soldiers. In this ceremony

The Poppy is a powerful symbol of Remembrance. From the last Friday in October to Remembrance Day, millions of Canadians wear a Poppy as a visual pledge to never forget those who served and sacrificed. How to wear your Poppy The Poppy is a sacred symbol of Remembrance and should not be affixed with a pin that obstructs the Poppy. The Poppy should be worn on the left side, over the heart. When to wear your Poppy The lapel Poppy should be worn during the Remembrance period, from the last Friday in October until November 11. How to remove a Poppy When a Poppy is removed, it should be stored appropriately, or disposed of respectfully. We encourage anyone who finds a Poppy that has fallen to the ground to pick it up, brush it off, wear it or dispose of it with respect.

John Legend admits to being selfish initially with wife Chrissy Teigen Grammywinning singer-songwriter John Legend has admitted that he was not a great partner and was “selfish” during the initial phase of his relationship with his model wife Chrissy Teigen.

S

peaking to the ‘On Purpose with Jay Shetty’ podcast, he said, quoted by Female First UK: “I think I was more selfish then. I wasn’t a great partner at the beginning of our relationship. Even though I was very into her and very excited to be with her. I was still selfish. I was in my mid 20s, still not ready to fully be the committed partner that I am now.” Female First UK further states that John explained how they are in a much better place at this point in their relationship. He added: “Once you really figure out that you love someone and you really love so much about them and you really want to make it work with that person, like you have to decide, ‘I’m going to do the things that I need to do to be a good partner in this relationship’.”

“And I’ve just grown as a person ‘cause of that too. When you stop being so selfish when you think about not only the joy you get from a situation and the pleasure you get from it, but you also think about your responsibility and your commit-

HOME AND LIVING

Aesthetic couches and vintage decor ideas Every living room’s focal piece is the couch, and the couch’s style determines the theme of the space.

T

o match the couch style, however, choosing the appropriate home decor collection becomes crucial. Millennials are currently favouring minimalist, aesthetically modern, and contemporary products. The days of having only brown and grey couches are long gone. Most people today prefer to use aesthetic decor items to add a pop of colour, energy, and originality to their living area. So, here are a few ideas to help you in creating the living room of your dreams by selecting the ideal couch and matching decor: Mid-century style If you want a mid-century modern look, the sofa should be in a nice colour such as royal blue, ash grey, or ivory white. To create such a modern aesthetic, accessorize the couch with striped, geometric, or abstract design cushion covers and add a fur rug below the sofa or couch. Place some old vases on the side table for a vintage aesthetic, or you may use Nordic or modern vase reed diffusers to liven up the room. Traditional-minimalist If your taste is conventional, go for a couch with a simple pattern. Hang a wooden deco-

ration, piece of wall art, planter, or ornament to add some flair. To get the appropriate classic yet minimalist aesthetic, use a handcrafted cushion or a pillow cover with an indigo print. Bring in outdoor vintage patterns inside Bringing in outdoor vintage patterns inside is a great way to add some colour and pattern to your home. These designs may be used as decoration on carpets, cushions, and other home decor items. Vintage throws are

also perfect for adding a pop of colour to your living room. So, why not explore the trending antique Greek floors for your living space and get a rustic couch that compliments the floor? It is recommended to select a pillow cover that is creative or abstract, macrame rugs, Moroccan plates on the wall behind the sofa, or elegant plants to complete the look and recreate the atmosphere of the streets of Greece in your house. Classy vintage look with minimalism

This style is elegant, retro, and understated. It combines all three, but it also has a hint of richness and elegance. A vintage accent sofa may be one of your selections if you have a minimalist style. Place imitation fur rugs beneath the sofa, a vintage wall clock, and a fur stool next to the couch to finish the effect. A vegan leather stand can also be put on the side table. You’ll undoubtedly get the minimalist vintage style you’re going for. Velvety affair with classy look All things vintage sounds elegant. One such royal element is that velvet sofa being placed in your cozy living area. Complimented with a classy vase, a vintage photo frame on the side table, a stylish stool in front of the couch, and a classy rug on the floor. It’s a complete velvety affair, isn’t it? To enhance, you can also put a throw on the sofa and hang wall art to add to the classy look. Choosing the right couch and pairing it with perfect decor makes a significant difference in the design and aesthetics of a living room.

Health check-ups every man needs

Most people underestimate the significance of regular examinations. Our hectic and unpredictable lifestyle frequently prevents us from seeking routine preventive care.

P

eople usually only come when they are seriously ill. In fact, health surveys show that men are less likely than women to visit doctors. Men over the age of 50 should have a yearly physical examination, while those under the age of 50 should have one every three to five years. Even if you feel healthy, it is critical to have regular check-ups because they help to diagnose disease early and reduce the risk of complications. 5 important health checkups for men: The doctor will determine which tests to perform and how frequently they should be performed based on the individual’s health conditions. The following tests are recommended for the general population. Blood sugar: Risk factors for

www.entertainmentmagazine.ca

developing high blood sugar levels include family history of diabetes, obesity. The risk of getting diabetes increases as you grow older. Regular screening for diabetes using fasting, post prandial and HbA1C is recommended for individuals above 40 years. Lipid profile: All adults over the age of 35 should get their cholesterol checked every 5 years. You might need to begin screening as early as 20 years of age if you have certain risk factors such as diabetes, smoking, a body mass index above 30, family history of stroke, or first-degree relatives who have had deranged cholesterol levels. Blood pressure: Blood pressure is the pressure exerted by your blood on the walls of blood vessels. A high BP puts you at risk of various health conditions like heart disease, kidney disease, and stroke. It is very easy to check your BP at home with the help of automated apparatus. A normal blood pressure level is less than 120/80 mmHg. As the dietary modifications happening due to cultural changes in the society, the onset of hypertension is seen in young adults. Hence adults above age of 18 should have their BP checked at least once. People with comorbidities like diabetes, heart disease or kid-

ney problems should have their blood pressure checked more often. Prostate-Specific Antigen (PSA) Test: About 1 in 8 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer during his lifetime. It is one of the top ten leading cancers for men in India. Prostate cancer screening can help identify cancer early on, when treatment is most effective. It is done with a simple, widely available blood test called Prostate-Specific Antigen (PSA) Test, sometimes combined with a digital rectal exam (DRE) to feel the prostate for abnormalities. Thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH): Thyroid hormones control the metabolism and contribute to our overall energy levels, nerve functions, and much more. Any irregularities with the thyroid can lead to various health problems and cause weight gain, lethargy, exhaustion, or fatigue. TSH test is done to find out how well the thyroid is working. High and low TSH can affect fertility in men. Elderly men over the age of 50, as well as individuals with risk factors for heart disease, should have a yearly echocardiogram and treadmill test to screen for heart disease. Diabetic patients should have a yearly kidney disease screening with a Creatinine and urine test. Individuals who exhibit high-risk behaviour should be screened for sexually transmitted diseases.
