he benefits of studying in Canada are undoubtedly noteworthy, including the endless potential for growth of an individual. However, we cannot deny the fact that these opportunities are accompanied by certain cumbersome challenges that student immigrants need to overcome while searching for the right job that matches their intellects.
Every year more than 50,000-60,000 new international students are being hosted by the CIC every year. An article, ‘A vicious circle’: Newcomers struggling to find jobs in Canada despite education, experience’ by CBC News highlighted stories about the challenges faced by immigrants from India. An immigrant, Jasleen Bindri had a teaching experience of more than 10 years from home country, but still found difficulty in getting a job. She said that in Canada while finding a job everyone wants the candidate that already has a Canadian experience. However, one must get into something in order to gain the Canadian experience. She is presently doing volunteer work in certain organizations in the hope of getting again into the teaching profession. Riddhi Sawant was also an immigrant from India and she is a master’s degree holder in game design and has experience in the same field too. She came to Canada with the idea of getting the same job as she was doing in her home country in the same field as that of

her master’s degree, but what happened with her was in total contrast to her expectations. Canada was not able to provide break in her career. Ryan Drew, a director with S.U.C.C.E.S.S. said that “some newcomers have barriers that need to be overcome such as non-Canadian credentials and not enough fluency with Canada’s official languages”. The Canadian government is even planning to open for new immigrants to keep the economy of Canada viable. But the people living here say that they are finding difficulty in getting employment even though they have enough experience and skills.
