INSURANCE

SMART PLANNING FOR THE FUTURE

L

Have life insurance, disability insurance and critical illness insurance Purchase adequate life insurance policy which may save your family from any financial crisis even if you are not there to protect them. Also, if you are working in a field involving physical risk, it is essential that you purchase coverage for disability insurance. In addition, critical illness insurance protects you against 25 life-threatening diseases. To understand your requirements, it is vital that you seek the help of a qualified insurance professional from Punjab Insurance Agency Inc.

This will enable various financial institutions/other agencies to be in constant touch with you. In a country like Canada, we all know that the place of residence is usually not stable. Most people move to different places and change their contact number accordingly. If by chance, the insurance premium cannot be deducted from your bank account due to non-sufficient funds or any kind of technical reason/error, in order to keep your policy active, there is a grace period. After the grace period, your policy becomes voided and necessary steps need to be taken to reinstate it. In this situation, it is very essential that the insurance company and insurance agent should be able to reach you in a timely manner. It will be possible only if they have your updated address, contact number and email. Always keep your contact details updated.

Always keep your address and phone number updated.

ife is transitory/uncertain. We don’t know what future has in store for us. It’s important that we make our family secure by taking necessary steps for our family after we cease to exist. This will ensure that our loved ones are protected from financial and legal problems during the time/emergence of any unforeseeable circumstance. By taking below mentioned necessary steps, we can get our affairs in order.

You can change the amount of mortgage insurance if the mortgage amount changes. We usually tend to upgrade our house with the passage of time. If you upgrade your house, then the mortgage amount also needs to be updated. You may need to adjust your mortgage insurance accordingly. It is suggested to stay in touch with your Insurance Advisor Sandeep on annual basis, who is local Ahuja to you. Always check your insurance regularly for your designated beneficiary Your family composition may change with the passage of time. The unmarried individuals get married in future and may want to designate their spouse or children as their beneficiary while those already married may have added new family members. Also, a divorce may lead to other changes. Thus, you may want to modify the beneficiary in the insurance policy. Always keep the beneficiary information updated by regularly monitoring your policy. INSURANCE Cont from pg 6 Keep your insurance updated for any change in your medical condition It is vital that you must keep a close check over your health for any emerging major health issue. If you experience any such health issue, to cover the corresponding risks, you may want to convert your term coverage to permanent coverage so that you are protected during times of need. In case of any unforeseeable deterioration in your medical condition/health, the document becomes even more vital for you. You should always keep your insurance policy in a secure place. Because, due to deterioration of health, the chances of getting a new policy would become even bleaker. Specify where important financial and nonfinancial information is located Always keep a list of your financial documents such as bank account numbers, savings and retirement plans, insurance policies, mortgage, college funding plans and non-financial information such as birth certificates, marriage certificates, property papers, passports, jewellery etc. It should then be placed in a fireproof place such as a file cabinet, bank safe, home safe etc. Prepare a list of professionals who help you manage your financial and legal matters such as accountant, lawyer, and insurance agents. Have a will and keep it updated It is vital that you should have a will in which you will designate your executors, guardians and trustees. Keep the document in a fairly obvious place so that your executor may locate it when required. It is better if you keep it in a sealed envelope labelled with your name and ‘Will’. It should then be placed in a fireproof place such as a file cabinet or home safe.

Why Aren’t My Child’s Permanent Teeth Coming In?

M

ost kids lose their first primary tooth around six-yearsold (though it can occur earlier or later) and the visits from the Tooth Fairy typically continue until they’re 12- to 13-years- old. As cute as children look with those missing teeth, the thing parents usually want to know off the bat is how long does it take for a tooth to come in to replace the one that was lost? Well, it varies pretty dramatically and the permanent tooth can make an appearance in as little as a week or take as long as six months to fully erupt. If the permanent tooth is growing in on the slower side, it’s likely nothing to worry about. However, if you’re really concerned about permanent teeth not coming in or it takes longer than six months, you should make an appointment with an orthodontist to have your kiddo’s teeth and jaws evaluated. In the meantime, we’ll be going over some of the common reasons for delayed eruption.

1. Losing Primary Teeth too Early – Primary teeth are extremely important. One of their main roles is to save space for the permanent teeth to come in property. Ideally, a child loses a primary tooth because the corresponding permanent tooth begins to erupt and pushes it out. When a baby tooth is lost early, whether from injury or tooth decay, the permanent tooth likely won’t be ready to come in. Without

4. Congenitally Missing Teeth – Congenitally (meaning present at birth) missing teeth are actually a lot more common than many people realize. While it’s most frequently the wisdom teeth, some people are missing one or both of their upper lateral incisors or second premolars. Since it’s genetic, it’s very likely someone else in the family has the same condition. With congenitally missing teeth, the permanent teeth never develop at all. Often, the primary teeth will stay in place since there’s nothing to push them out. If they are lost because of tooth decay, gum disease or trauma, no permanent tooth exists to take its place. A bridge or partial denture can be used to replace the missing tooth – or teeth – but dental implant surgery will bring about the most natural-looking, lasting results. Keep in mind, however, it can’t be performed until the jaw is done growing. Regardless of the route you choose to take, orthodontic treatment may be recommended to shift the rest of the teeth into place prior to getting a dental prosthesis. For an implant, an appliance will be fitted to save space until the time is right for surgery. 5. Supernumerary Primary Teeth – Less commonly, in a case of permanent teeth not coming down, supernumerary teeth are to blame. Supernumerary teeth are extra teeth. They can develop in association with different conditions like cleft palate, Gardner’s syndrome, or cleidocranial dysostosis, though they may just occur on their own. These additional teeth crop up anywhere in the dental arch and have the potential to block the permanent teeth. While treatment varies, most of the time, it will involve extracting the supernumerary tooth. If it led to tooth or jaw misalignment, this can be corrected with orthodontic treatment.

ment can take several years and consist of different steps. The most common approach is using oral surgery and orthodontic treatment to coax the teeth out. If extractions are needed, then a good option is braces to close the gap followed by dental implant surgery. Mechanical failure of eruption is another type and may involve ankylosis, which is when the tooth or teeth are fused to the bone and can’t break loose. There are a number of treatments including leaving the tooth where it is and making it look better with cosmetic dentistry procedures, using a surgical procedure to loosen the tooth followed by orthodontic treatment to shift it into place or extraction and placement of a dental prosthesis.

6. Failure of Eruption – Primary failure of eruption (PFE) is extremely rare. It occurs when the permanent teeth are present and have a clear path but fail to erupt or only erupt partially and then stop. PFE is genetic. When multiple teeth are affected, treat-

While all of this information can be a little overwhelming, many of the causes are rare and, in most cases, the problem can be treated. Both the Canadian and American Association of Orthodontists say children should see an orthodontist by age seven so they can have their developing teeth and jaws evaluated. Well, in addition to being super friendly Surrey orthodontists, Dr. Sharma and Dr. Lin are both trained in dentofacial orthopedics, meaning they’re pros in growth and development and troubleshooting issues. They can assess your child and make sure everything is on track. If they do spot red flags, they’ll make an accurate diagnosis and recommend the correct treatment to guide the permanent teeth into their proper places. This will help your child avoid more extensive, costly correction down the road. Schedule a free consultation at Aura Orthodontics and we’ll team up with you to bring out the best in your child’s smile.

Baisakhi Special

Baisakh

Celebratio

F

estival of Baisakhi is celebrated with lot of joy and enthusiasm in the northern state of Punjab and Haryana. Farmers are jubilant over the festival as for them Baisakhi marks the time for harvest of rabi crops. Prosperous with the bountiful produce they look forward to celebrating Baisakhi with all eagerness. For the predominant Sikh population of Punjab Baisakhi is one the biggest festival as it marks the foundation day of Khalsa Panth by the tenth Sikh Guru, Guru Gobind Singh. Sikh community located anywhere in the world celebrate Baisakhi by participating in the special prayer meets and Baisakhi processions. Baisakhi Celebrations by Farmers In the villages of Punjab and Haryana, the day of Baisakhi is full of colors and vibrancy. Cries of “Jatta aayi Baisakhi reverberate in the skies as gaily-dressed men and women move towards the fields to celebrate the occasion. High point of Baisakhi celebrations in villages is the performance of traditional folk dance bhangra and gidda by men and women respectively. The dance is simple in movement but is extremely energetic and is performed in-groups on the beat of dhol. Farmers also celebrate Baisakhi as a Thanksgiving Day. After taking an early bath in ponds or rivers people visit temples or gurdwaras to express gratitude to the Almighty for the bountiful harvest and pray for prosperity and good times in future. At several places in Punjab colourful Baisakhi Fairs are also organized to celebrate the day. People participate in these fairs with lots of enthusiasm

They take an early bath, wear new clothes and visit the neighborhood gurdwara (Sikh place of worship) to participate in the special prayer meet marked for the day. After a special ardas of kirtans (religious songs) and discourses kada prasad (sweetened semolina) is distributed amongst all present. Later, people sit in rows to relish the langar or community lunch prepared and served by kar sevaks or volunteers. Another high point of Baisakhi celebrations by Sikhs is the Baisakhi procession or nagar kirtan carried though the city under the leadership of Panj Piaras or the Five Beloved Ones. Men, women and children alike participate in the Baiskhi processions with enthusiasm. Mock duels, bands playing religious tunes and performance of bhangra and gidda dance make Baisakhi processions quite colourful and enchanting. Later in the evening, people exchange greetings with friends and relatives usually with a box of sweets or other traditional gifts. Baisakhi Mela Baisakhi Mela or Baisakhi Fair is one of the most colourful aspects of Baisakhi celebrations in the state of Punjab. Beauty

Make-up

guide to wearing any lip colour right

Whether applied lightly for a sheer look or slicked on heavily for a dramatic effect a la Rihanna, green looks gorgeous. Since the shade tends to hide your natural lip colour, pair it with pink and red hues on the cheeks and eyes. This will bring back your natural flush to other areas of the face. Orange The colour complements a sun-kissed glow. When going for an orange lip, apply bronzer wherever the sun would naturally hit your face — on the forehead, highest points of the cheekbones, point of the nose, chin, and shoulder — to warm up the skin. Sweep pink blush on the apples of your cheeks for a natural warmth and balance.

Red Classic and always trending, red is best worn with jet black liquid eyeliner and liberal coats of mascara. However, try keeping the focus only on the lips. Keep your skin natural and dewy with sheer foundation. Ditch the blush and eyeliner and just swipe on a few coats of mascara. Pink Baby pink looks great on paler skin tones

while deep pink is great if you have dusky skin. To avoid looking too girly, try monochromatic makeup. Use eye, lip and cheek colours in different shades and textures of pink. The trick works with almost every skin tone. Purple The colour is so rich and vibrant, it’s best to have subdued make-up on the rest of the face. Sheer-coverage foundation and soft eye make-up will let blue take centre stage. A light dusting of coral blush will complement the deep lipstick hue. Gold Although unusual, shades of yellow gold can lend a high-fashion feel to your beauty look. Reach for a high-coverage foundation to create a flawless base. On the eyes, play up the energy of the lip colour by drawing a cat-eye and then tracing over the top of the black line with a white liner pencil to create a dual look. Green

Blue Blue has the ability to make your teeth appear whiter. Keep it simple when wearing blue lipstick by framing the eyes with a thin line of liquid eyeliner and using a sheer, tinted moisturiser. Black Take away its goth associations, and the colour black gets sophisticated. Keep the skin natural in coverage and finish. Pair the dark hue with a diffused smokey eye and surprise people who expect bold eyeliner.

id you know that exercise is not only good for your body but your brain too? Exercise can enhance the development of new brain cells that play an important role in learning and memory of adults, new research has found. The process of developing new brain cells in the adult brain is called adult neurogenesis, the scientists explained. The researchers found that mice that spent time running on wheels not only developed twice the normal number of new neurons, but also showed an increased ability to distinguish new objects from familiar objects. “Our research indicates that exercise-induced increase in neurogenesis improves pattern separation by supporting unique and detailed long-term representations of similar but nevertheless different memory items,” explained lead investigator Josef Bischofberger, professor at University of Basel in Switzerland. “Pattern separation is involved

APRIL 2018

in many memory tasks of everyday life. For example, when learning the game of chess, it is critically important to remember the different shapes of pieces like the pawn and bishop,” Bischofberger explained. For the study, the researchers tested two groups of mice that were housed either without (sedentary) or with running wheels (voluntarily running) using a novel object recognition task to assess learning and long-term memory. The researchers found that whereas distinct objects were remembered and recognised by both cohorts of mice, only the running mice could faithfully distinguish similar looking objects. Investigators determined therefore that the running mice had developed better pattern separation capabilities than sedentary mice. To investigate further, the researchers looked for changes in the brains of the mice. By using markers that could identify newly-formed brain cells, they found that running mice developed about twice as many new cells.

health cont from pg 38 Ischemic stroke About 85 percent of strokes are ischemic strokes. Ischemic strokes occur when the arteries to your brain become narrowed or blocked, causing severely reduced blood flow (ischemia). The most common ischemic strokes include: Thrombotic stroke. A thrombotic stroke occurs when a blood clot (thrombus) forms in one of the arteries that supply blood to your brain. A clot may be caused by fatty deposits (plaque) that build up in arteries and cause reduced blood flow (atherosclerosis) or other artery conditions. Embolic stroke. An embolic stroke occurs when a blood clot or other debris forms away from your brain — commonly in your heart — and is swept through your bloodstream to lodge in narrower brain arteries. This type of blood clot is called an embolus. Hemorrhagic stroke Hemorrhagic stroke occurs when a blood vessel in your brain leaks or ruptures. Brain hemorrhages can result from many conditions that affect your blood vessels, including uncontrolled high blood pressure (hypertension), overtreatment with anticoagulants and weak spots in your blood vessel walls (aneurysms). A less common cause of hemorrhage is the rupture of an abnormal tangle of thin-walled blood vessels (arteriovenous malformation) present at birth. Types of hemorrhagic stroke include: Intracerebral hemorrhage. In an intracerebral hemorrhage, a blood vessel in the brain bursts and spills into the surrounding brain tissue, damaging brain cells. Brain cells beyond the leak are deprived of blood and also damaged. High blood pressure, trauma, vascular malformations, use of blood-thinning medications and other conditions may cause an intracerebral hemorrhage. Subarachnoid hemorrhage. In a subarachnoid hemorrhage, an artery

on or near the surface of your brain bursts and spills into the space between the surface of your brain and your skull. This bleeding is often signaled by a sudden, severe headache. A subarachnoid hemorrhage is commonly caused by the bursting of a small sack-shaped or berry-shaped outpouching on an artery known as an aneurysm. After the hemorrhage, the blood vessels in your brain may widen and narrow erratically (vasospasm), causing brain cell

Zero: Katrina Kaif Posts A Picture With ‘Birthday Boy’ Abhay Deol & It’s SUPER CUTE!

A

few days back, we had reported that Katrina Kaif will be reuniting with her ‘Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara’ co-star Abhay Deol for Shahrukh Khan starrer Zero. The actor has an extended guest appearance in the film. While the shooting for the film is currently going in full swing, Katrina’s recent Instagram post finally confirmed that Abhay is indeed a part of Zero. Recently the actor celebrated his birthday on the sets and later Katrina posted a little sneak-peek of the birthday celebration on her Instagram story. Check it out hereMile Dobara In the picture, we see Abhay and Katrina posing together adorably in front of a cake. But it’s Kat’s cute caption which brings a smile on your face. Abhay As Katrina’s Love Interest Reportedly Abhay essays the role of Katrina’s love interest in Zero. Kat plays an actress who is

going through a heartbreak, because of Abhay. Details About Abhay-

/saet_ca APRIL 2018

Katrina’s Track In Zero Earlier a source had told a leading daily, “Abhay plays the boyfriend who dumps Katrina in the film. He will shoot most of his scenes with her. Even though it’s a cameo, he agreed to do it instantly because of his relationship with Aanandji, with whom he has had successful collaborations like Raanjhanaa (2013) and Happy Bhag Jayegi (2016).” Is This What Anushka & Katrina Play In The Zero? “While everyone thinks that only Shah Rukh Khan has a special role in the film, they will be surprised to know that Anushka and Katrina’s characters also face

various challenges. While everyone knows Katrina plays a diva, nobody knows that she is also an alcoholic in the film. She battles with alcoholism, which affects her life in various ways. Anushka, on the other hand, plays a struggling scientist. The makers are trying to keep these details a secret because they don’t want to give out too much information,” a source had informed a leading daily. Katrina Plays A Dramatic Character The actress had told a tabloid, “I play a character which is a satirical take on an actress. I have seen it happen in English films but I have never seen something like this done before in a Hindi movie. It’s very dramatic.” Here’s How The Idea For Zero Germinated In Aanand L. Rai’s Mind “I loved seeing Hrithik (Roshan) fly off a 250-feet building, it was brilliantly done, but deep down I felt this wasn’t us. Apart from our mythological demigods, Indians aren’t ready for superheroes, kadd mein hum abhi bahut chhote hain. That’s what made me want to live life from the perspective of a dwarf.” Aanand L Rai On Casting Shahrukh Khan “I wanted to cut the all-important two feet from a star as big and confident as Khan saab, then tell a love story. Being an intelligent man, he knew what I was talking about.” Zero is scheduled to release on 21st December, 2018. Courtsey: filmibeat.com

RELATIONSHIP Cont from pg 64 If you want to raise a confident child that grows up with a healthy self-worth, then parents must lay a background and facilitate that they have a realistic understanding of their Strengths and Weaknesses, Opportunism and Threats. I mean do the SWOT analysis. On occasions, .babies is toughtoo. And, it’s never too late to start the habits that help raise a confident child. Getting to know your child and seeing things from his point of view will help you help him learn to trust himself. This kind of nurturing put the blocks of self-worth in place

A child’s Self-Esteem is acquired, not inherited. Surrounding environment plays a

quintessential role in shaping the self-confidenceof kids. A child learns certain character traits, such as anger and fearfulness. Her parents have a role to play. If they suffer from low self-confidence, that can percolate the same and have a cascading effect on their kids.

Parents can take following steps so that Self-confidence can be instilled in kids in maximum and in time: • Remember, children like the company of their parents most, when they are happy. So serve as Positive Mirror to your kids • Raise a Confident Child by Playing Together. This sends a message that the child is a valuable person. Encourage the child to initiate the play. Child-initiated play also increases self-worth. My dad used to play the game of Snakes and Ladders with me regularly. This helped me to be at more ease with him, ask questions and be more confident. • Let your child feel he/she is very special: they are the ultimate purpose for parents to live on. • Address Your Child by Name. Addressing your child by name, especially when accompanied by eye contact and touch helps a long way. This makes him feel special. Parents often use a child’s nickname or first name only in a casual dialogue. • To raise a confident child as he gets older, encourage his talents. Help a child play a game of his choice. This will improve his overall performance and self confidence • Guide Your Child to plan, implement and succeed. • Children measure their own value by how they perceive others value them. . If you want to raise a confident child, be sure your child believes you value him because of who he is, not how he performs. Do this by giving him plenty of eye contact, therapeutic touching and fo-

cused attention. .He must know that your love for him does not depend on his performance. That’s a tough assignment for a parent indeed. • Screen your child’s friends as one is known or affected by the company one keeps. Persons of significance in his life are relatives, coaches, teachers, religious leaders and friends. It’s up to the parents to keep an eye on all of this. • Keep thehome kid-friendly, so that the friends of your child can come and spend some time as peers. This improves self confidence in your child. • Monitor the school influence on your child. Because at elementary school, other adults become influential in his life. • Give your children responsibilities. One of the main ways children develop self-confidence and internalize values, is through helping maintain the family living area, inside and out. Raise a confident child by giving them household duties. A child may be requested to tidy up his room, wash a car, gardening or clean his own used dishes. This helps them feel more valuable and channels their energy into desirable behaviour and teaching skills. • Encourage children to express their feelings. Maturity develops through years of learning that lead to a positive attitude.Positive attitude lead to maturity not aging. A child with unbridled emotions becomes a brat. A per-

son who never expresses emotions becomes too reserved. Too much control or too much emoting will both produce problems later in life.in adult life. Parents don’t need a degree in psychology to raise a confident child. Much of parenting is fun and takes it easy. Many parents are already overloaded with guilt because they may not be doing enough to marcher their child’s self-worth. Always remember, children are like a white cloth, whatever color you give or they pick up by default, in their formative years, have nearpermanent hue on them. When we try to give another color, LATER ON, it results into a different - one due to litmus reaction. Inculcate good habits in the children from childhood. My father used to take me to alibrary, in the vicinity, when I was a tween. This is how I developed the passion to read and then write. I owe my writing ability to my late rev. dad. Self-confidence is your child’s passport to a lifetime of goodmental health and overall happiness. It’s the foundation of a child’s well-being and the key to success as an adult. As an Arborist care for a tree, likewise, parents raise a confident child, by nurturing their kids because, parenting is therapeutic. Raise a Confident Child and watch him grow like a great human being.

BEAUTY

5 Tips for gorgeous eyelashes

M

ascara is the easiest way to open your eyes, elongate lashes and add volume to it. But it comes with its own share of problems like clumps, flakes, stains and more. Here are some tips and tricks to get flawless fluttery lashes. 1 Keep tissue handy Wipe off excess mascara from your wand before applying to avoid clumps from forming. Make sure you do this at least for the first few uses when extra formula accumulates on the wand. 2. Sprinkle some baby powder For voluminous lashes dust some translucent powder of baby between each coat of

mascara. 3. Long luscious lashes To get long lashes wiggle the brush back and forth at the base of your lash and lightly comb through the tips. This will ensure that the thicker coat is at the roots and not weigh down your lashes. 4. Thicken your lashes If you have light coloured or scanty lashes, coat both the sides of your eyelashes with mascara. 5. Hold the brush right Holding the brush in a particular manner can decide the results. For volume, wiggle the brush horizontally and for longer lashes, swipe the mascara on the lengths holding the brush vertically.
