Let’s Talk Food

How to Host an Appetizer

Buffet

HOW TO PLAN:

• Choose some make ahead recipes to prevent last minute fuss.

• Offer a variety of flavours, textures and colours.

• Choose foods that can be picked up and eaten without a plate. Avoid foods that are difficult to cut into bite-sized pieces.

• Label appetizers on your table with place cards.

’Tis the season for appies!
“There is no sincerer love than the love of food.”
— George Bernard Shaw

Sweet & Spicy Cocktail Meatballs

• 2 lbs (.907kg) lean ground beef

• 1 Tbsp. Onion, Garlic & Herb Seasoning

• 1 Tbsp. Oh! So Garlic

• 1 Tbsp. Oh! So Onion

• 2 tsp. Sunset Seasoned Salt

• ¾ tsp. freshly ground black pepper

• ½ cup breadcrumbs

• 1 egg

• ¼ cup water

• 2 Tbsp. soy sauce

• 2 Tbsp. Sweet & Spicy Brown Sugar Bourbon Sauce Sauce

• ½ jar Maple Bourbon Bacon Jam

• 1 cup Sweet & Spicy Brown Sugar Bourbon Sauce

To make the sauce: Combine Maple Bourbon Bacon Jam and Sweet & Spicy Brown Sugar Bourbon Sauce and stir until completely mixed; set aside.

To make the meatballs: Mix all seasonings and bread crumbs in a large bowl, add egg, water, soy sauce and Sweet & Spicy Brown Sugar Bourbon Sauce. Mix well, then add ground beef and mix just until all seasonings have been evenly distributed, do not over-mix. Form into small meatballs and cook on medium heat in a fry pan until cooked through or place on a cookie sheet and bake in the oven at 350°F for 20 minutes or until cooked through.

Place meatballs in an oven-proof casserole dish. Pour sauce over the meatballs and cook for another 30 minutes. You can also cook meatballs in the sauce on the stove top or in a slow cooker.

To serve: Let the meatballs cool a bit and then you can skewer with a bamboo cocktail pick.

HOW MUCH TO SERVE:

• If the buffet serves as the meal offer five or six different appetizers including some substantial selections and plan on eight to nine pieces per guest.

• If you will also be serving a meal, two to three pieces per person is sufficient.

HOW TO SET UP:

• Arrange a few groupings of two to three chairs where people can converse.

• Position extra end tables throughout the room or house so guests are able to set down their beverages.

• Set out bowls of nuts and snack mixes throughout the room.

• Have extra napkins readily available.

• Set out small sturdy plates that are easy to handle.

• Make sure guests can easily reach all of the serving platters.

• Remove chairs and other tables from the buffet area.

• Set up the beverage station in a different area.

• Make waste baskets visible for discarded napkins etc.

Follow-up

By putting the customers you have first and rolling out the red carpet for them, you make them feel special and important. Taking care of a customer or hostess you have will always be easier than trying to find new ones. When you do follow-up, either by asking if they have everything they need or finding out if they loved their past order, those customers are 10 times more likely to buy from you again, host another party or figure out how easy it is to do both of those and join your team. Do not let any orders fall by the wayside! Every single customer should be sent a message, a text, a short video or a phone call even if it means you are just checking in to say, “Hi“. Make people feel important and your holiday calendar will be full year after year.

The mediocre leader tells.

The good leader explains.

The superior leader demonstrates.

The great leader inspires.

“ If your actions create a legacy that inspires others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, then, you are an excellent leader. ” Dolly Parton
As we approach this season of giving it is important to think about the impact we have on others. Do our actions leave a positive impression? Are we seen as a positive influencer and a leader in our communities?

When we focus on giving it often leads to the development of strong meaningful relationships that can inspire others to be better and do good. This can create a ripple effect of kindness. When we lift people up and help them achieve a brighter outlook and future, we are truly a leader!

“Leadership is not about titles, positions, or flowcharts. It is about one life influencing another. ”
John C. Maxwell

There are so many aspects of leadership that are relevant to all of us. Leadership is about lifting people up, recognizing and celebrating someone’s achievements, lending a helping hand to someone in need, being tolerant and kind to others, helping to make your community safe; we could go on and on. It isn’t just about leading a team it is about making a difference.

When you invest time fostering meaningful relationships you build trust and loyalty. Relationships built on respect and understanding can open doors and new opportunities. Leadership is often perceived as a position of authority, but the true essence of leadership lies in influence and service. It is not defined by a title but by their ability to inspire and empower others. They foster an environment where everyone feels valued and heard, whether that is in your home, business or community.

Ultimately, the true meaning of leadership is about making a positive impact - on individuals, teams, and communities. It is about igniting potential and inspiring others to reach new heights, creating a legacy that extends far beyond oneself. In this way, leadership becomes a journey of growth, connection, and transformation.

Great leaders don’t set out to be leaders, they set out to make a difference!

The pessimist complains about the wind. The optimist expects it to change. The leader adjusts the sails.

in October Elevations Congratulations to our Newest Team Leader

Betty Michayluk Prince Albert, SK

Betty elevated to Senior Consultant in September and now to Team Leader in October! WOW! Way to go Betty!

I have been with Sunset Gourmet going on 3 years. I absolutely love the products and the company. The support from head office is great and they are always there to lend a hand! A few suggestions I offer to New Consultants on my team... Start slow and steady and you will see your business grow. Reaching out to family, friends, coworkers and neighbours and talking about the products brings sales. I have grown my business this way, and by doing parties and trade shows. I also like having open houses where guests can taste our products and then shop. Sometimes I will do Facebook lives showing our new products and taking orders that way. I also have done Freezer Meals just with myself showing the products and how easy they are to do. My goal this year is to promote the Freezer Meals more.

I want to wish all of you a busy holiday season and have fun with your business. Customers like that and can feel your enthusiasm and excitement.

Top Achiever in October Elevations Congratulations to our Newest Team Leader

Nicole Meyer Prince George, BC

In June, Nicole elevated to Senior Consultant, and now she’s achieved another milestone as a Team Leader!

We asked Nicole about her Sunset Gourmet journey so far and this is what she said...

I started my Sunset Gourmet journey four years ago, during Covid, primarily online since everything was shut down. I wanted to create delicious food that felt like dining at a restaurant. I gradually built my business online until markets slowly reopened. For a while, I was content focusing on markets and talking about Sunset Gourmet to many people, many of whom still have never heard about our products.

This past year, I shared my products with my team member Gord, and he loved them! After placing a few orders, he decided to join since there was no Consultant in his area - and his business quickly took off! He even has his own team member now. I also sponsored two more returning customers who live in Prince George. They loved the products so much they decided to join!

I’m now looking forward to the winter markets, as these are the best markets of the year for me. I love introducing the products to new people! To close out the year and boost my sales, I’m offering samples of products I have in stock, a draw basket, and even $5 off coupons for their next order when customers spend over a certain amount.
