From our family to yours, Though we may be gathering in smaller numbers this Thanksgiving, we are no less thankful for the family, friends and food that bring us together. We are a family owned company, and that includes our founding family as well as the 1,000+ team members that make Sunterra so much more than just a business. This year, as we celebrate our 50+30 anniversary, we are especially grateful for the 50 years of farming and 30 years in retail and meat processing that have brought us to where we are today. As we look back on our history, we are proud to still follow some of our original family recipes, like Grandma Price’s homemade buns (recipe on back cover). Though baking methods have become more sophisticated since the recipe was perfected on a wood burning stove 70 years ago, the key to creating a perfect, golden brown batch remains the same: knead and knead some more. Did you know there are at least 30 varieties of apples, harvested in B.C. s Okanagan and Fraser Valleys this time of year? Start taste testing or try one of our three favourites: ambrosia, gala or honeycrisp.
S Q U A S H B R U S C H E T TA Bake prepared oven-ready butternut squash in a 350F oven until tender, about 12 to 15 minutes. Once cooled, dice the squash and combine with diced green peppers and onions, minced garlic and halved cherry tomatoes. Toss with white or dark balsamic vinegar, maple syrup, salt and black pepper. Drizzle slices of sourdough bread with olive oil, rub with a garlic clove and then toast. Top the garlic bread with bruschetta, toasted pumpkin seeds and chives. Enjoy!

COOK THE COVER GRANDMA PRICE'S BUNS Prep time: 30 min Total time: 10 hrs 40 min Makes 14 buns 1 tsp
dry active yeast
6 cups
lukewarm water
6-7 cups bread flour 1 cup
sugar
2 tsp
salt
1 cup
lard, cut into small cubes
Proof 1 tsp of yeast in lukewarm water to which a bit of sugar has been added. Pile the flour on a flat surface, make a well in the center of the flour and add the yeast and water mixture. Knead the dough for 10 to 12 minutes. Knead in sugar and salt and then slowly work in the lard cubes. Add more flour cautiously and continue kneading for at least another 10 minutes. If the dough is sticking to your hands, rub some lard on your hands and gradually add a small amount of flour to the mixture until you are free of the dough. Place the dough in a large bowl. Cover with a towel and let the dough rise. If the dough starts to rise over the bowl, lightly press it back in. Do not knead again. Handle the dough gently while making the buns. Butter each one with your hands and put on a baking sheet. Leave a 1-inch space between each bun as they will be rising all night. Cover with a towel and proof in a cool, not cold place for no more than 8 hours. Bake at 400F for 10 to 12 minutes. Brush with melted butter once out of the oven.
