HELLERS
Five generations on, and you could say that butcher is in the name. The Heller family tradition of butcheries began in the 1880’s where smallgoods were supplied to the gold miners from a small shop in Arrowtown. Todd Heller continued the long line of butchers by opening his first butchery in New Brighton, Christchurch, in 1985. Inspired by his travels, Todd began offering greater variety and new flavours – very little of which were available at the time. Todd Heller Meats started supplying supermarkets, outgrew the old factory, moved to a new plant at Kaiapoi and began supplying throughout the South Island. When the company began distributing nationally in 2002, the London Pride sausage was created and judged New Zealand’s best sausage.
Today over 500 staff can produce up to 800 tonnes of sausages in 80 different varieties a week along with bacon, ham and other service deli smallgoods. In more recent years, Hellers has taken on brands Santa Rosa, bringing turkey and chicken into market in various flavours and cuts. The second brand is the historic Kiwi Bacon, an ethical and natural bacon and ham range taking the pork industry by storm. Other brands include Huttons and Ryans. Driven with a vision to bring both traditional and innovative new tastes available to Kiwis everywhere, Hellers is New Zealand’s leading brand of sausages, bacon, ham and small goods.

MATAKANA SUPERFOODS Matakana SuperFoods was founded in 2009 by Dr Kevin Glucina and has become a world leader in superfood nutrition. After many years in the health industry as well as personally following an additive-free, chemical-free and wholefood-focussed life, Dr Glucina began the company with the aim of bringing foods with special nutritional qualities from around the world to New Zealand. Now, after almost a decade, Matakana SuperFoods is consistently meeting the growing consumer demand for superfoods and nutritional dietary elements. “As well as offering people the choice to include a wide range of superfoods in their daily diet, we’re seeking to achieve our mission by providing high-quality, healthy alternatives to everyday food staples,” said Dr Glucina. “Our mission is to improve the habits and health profile of every New Zealander.” Refined sugar, for instance, can be replaced with healthier alternatives like stevia, monk fruit powder, coconut sugar or lucuma. Ease of use is key to the Matakana SuperFoods’ philosophy. That’s evident in their product range, with a number of organic and highly nutritious smoothie bases, freeze-dried fruit powders (particularly handy for baking and
cooking) and sugar alternatives. In February this year, Matakana SuperFoods will be releasing a range of hemp food products including flour, protein powder, hulled seeds, a chocolate bar and drink. They’ve also developed a healthy hemp breakfast line under a new brand called Love Organics. The legalisation of hemp as a food product is long overdue and Matakana Superfoods is looking forward to bringing this incredibly nutritious, plant-based food source to everyday kiwis. “Hemp seed is such a wonderful superfood as it has an ideal ratio of omega 3 and 6 fatty acids along with being one of the only plant sources that provides all the essential amino acids” Matakana SuperFoods has just finished the construction of a new office facility and warehouse, which will be certified organic. “This new facility will allow us to increase capacity and keep up with growth, affording us the opportunity to penetrate international markets,” said Dr Glucina. These new facilities will allow Dr Glucina and Matakana SuperFoods to spread their healthy-eating philosophy to a much wider consumer base.

With quiet passion, his small enterprise flourished and soon became a tea and coffee emporium. As the instant coffee craze spread across Europe, Douwe Egberts launched the now legendary Moccona brand. New Zealand then took its first shipment of Moccona in its iconic cylindrical glass jar and gold label. Originally sold in delicatessens and small specialty stores it symbolised the little indulgence from Europe that added to the pleasures of daily existence. Moccona’s reputation for world class

quality saw it become a household name, a favourite among coffee drinkers everywhere and the most indulgent freeze-dried coffee. It is known for its premium taste and elegant glass jar, making Moccona a much-loved classic all over New Zealand. Moccona’s special quest is to always ensure that it always brings the very best coffee, full in flavour, smooth and rich in aroma. The most popular flavour, Moccona Classic Medium Roast, is made from a blend of Arabica and Robusta beans. For those after a dark roast, the Moccona Classic Dark Roast is a bold, dark roast with earthy warm and aromatic notes, perfect for that strong coffee hit.

LEASEPLUS
LeasePlus was founded by dtr New Zealand to meet the needs of business owners in the hospitality and accommodation sectors. Directors Earl Stevens and Tony Hannon purchased LeasePlus in June 2017, and since then the business has been successfully operating as a standalone entity. LeasePlus works to help customers thrive not just by helping them finance their visions, but also by offering an extensive product range to help drive business forwards. There are countless things foodservice operators could upgrade to make a place look better and function better but upgrading is expensive and requires a significant outlay. There’s never a bad time for businesses to reflect on what they do better. Cleanliness is always front of mind for customers, so food service providers must make sure they are always offering the best service possible. Leasing presents an alternative. For only small monthly fees, you can dodge the big upfront fees and prevent asset obsolescence. When you need to finance fit outs for your business, LeasePlus is there to deliver great deals by sourcing everything you need in a kitchen from commercial deep-fat fryers to fully

SAFE FOOD PRO Food safety, made simple.
While it is vital to have a robust food control plan (FCP), it is equally important you have the tools to help you manage your food control plan accurately and efficiently. That is where Safe Food Pro comes in. “The key priorities when we designed Safe Food Pro was to create a way for a food business to quickly set-up a template Food Control Plan (FCP) and to provide an app that is child’s play to use – mission accomplished,” said Greg Hart, head of user experience at SafeFood Pro. Compliance is a necessary evil. No one
wants to spend time on paperwork, and no one wants customers getting sick. A good ‘Food Grade’ is so important to a restaurant and no one wants it jeopardised by incomplete records, untrained staff or substandard processes. Safe Food Pro removes the guesswork. The app prompts users with tasks that need to be completed and has an audit log of who completed each task. Safe Food Pro will also alert the manager and team members when important tasks haven’t been completed or when fridge temperatures are outside the

HOSHIZAKI The creators of the first automatic ice machine, Hoshizaki offers an extensive range of commercial ice makers and dispensers. With their machines designed and manufactured to offer an outstanding level of reliability and performance, Hoshizaki has earned the position of proven industry leaders. The range offers ice making solutions for all domestic and commercial requirements including restaurants, cafés, bars, hotels, supermarkets, luxury yachts, ice suppliers, medical care facilities and any other industries requiring ice. Hoshizaki machines are designed for commercial use and offer a variety of shapes and sizes, so it is important to consider these factors when looking for the correct ice machine for your business. For instance, a
tall ice machine may not suit a café or restaurant with limited space, therefore an under-counter ice machine option could be considered. Hoshizaki is the only brand offering the unique crescent style ice cubes – a hard, slow melting ice that keeps drinks cool while melting slowly. Hoshizaki is also the only brand to offer stainless steel evaporator plates in most models. The biggest advantage of a stainless-steel plate is it prevents flaking and evaporator wear and tear, ensuring longer life and consistent performance. In New Zealand, Hoshizaki is distributed by Steelfort a family owned business operating since 1946. With growing demand and a wider range available, Steelfort has made Hoshizaki ice machines price competitive and offers comprehensive after sales parts and service backup, essential for machines working in a commercial environment. HOSTSERVICE COMMERCIAL Saving consumers up to 50 percent on oil costs. Like it or loathe it, deep fried food is a popular menu item everywhere in New Zealand. But along with New Zealand’s favourite hot chip comes the constant battles with food outlets everywhere: Oil Costs. Buying oil. Disposing of oil. Filtering oil. Cleaning Fryers. So, at Hostservice Commercial, we decided to go global in our search of the best ways for customers to save money on their oil costs. We now have a range of oil filtration and oil testing devices that are helping people all over New Zealand save up to 50 percent on their frying oil costs with quality products sourced locally and worldwide. We have easy, safe and quick systems that are used in-fryer. This means no oil on the floors, no waiting for oil to cool to a safe temperature, and best of all, minimum mess. Our favourite
systems are used in hot oil. They take a maximum of five minutes to filter (just switch on and leave it to do its work) and best of all, once it’s done, you can put the messy bits through the dishwasher. It’s not just the filtering. Did you know most cooks are under the false impression that dark oil means poor quality and that the oil is ready to dump? How do you know better? Use an oil tester. Oil testers measure the TPM percentage in oil to indicate the best time to change, and ensures your oil is working at the optimum levels and you are consistently serving quality fried food. Get in touch with Hostservice Commercial if you want to know what you can save, and how you can satisfy your customers one hot chip at a time.

INSINKERATOR
Inefficiencies, down the drain – foodservice disposers from InSinkErator. Over 80 years ago, InSinkErator invented the very first food waste disposer. Today, foodservice facilities world wide rely on InSinkErator food waste disposers to help their kitchens run at peak performance. From restaurants and hotels to healthcare and education institutes, its disposers are proven to divert food from landfills, improve kitchen hygiene and reduce overall operating costs. According to the NZ Ministry for the Environment, 700,000 tonnes of organic waste is trucked to landfills each year in New Zealand. Once there, waste quickly decomposes and produces methane, an environmentally harmful greenhouse gas at least 21 times more potent than CO². In contrast, InSinkErator disposers provide a convenient alternative to transporting food waste to landfills. Plus, capable wastewater treatment plants can even recycle the food waste to produce energy that helps power the facility.
It’s no secret: food scraps disposed of in bins create odours, attract pests and serves as a breeding ground for bacteria. InSinkErator disposers help keep food waste out of rubbish bins improving kitchen sanitation and hygiene. They also cut staff trips to the bin and reduce waste hauling costs, all while increasing kitchen efficiencies and profitability. InSinkErator food waste disposers can play an important role in saving your operation money and minimising your carbon footprint. And with payback of initial investment in as little as one year, it’s just good business.

Commercial microwave ovens by design are one of the most efficient and lowest cost appliances found in commercial foodservice kitchens. Commercial microwaves use up to 80 percent less energy than conventional ovens. Microwave ovens cut energy costs by only using energy when cooking – eliminating the need for pre-cooking and holding. During the cooking process, existing water molecules within the food are activated to create steam and shorten cook times even more. Plus there’s no need for costly ventilation.
The next step up is the Xpress range (pictured). These have convection and forced air options that maintain crispness and freshness. The forced air (impinger) also allows us to brown and crisp while at the same time using microwaves to heat. Only the best for your kitchen.
