Over twenty years ago ADOBE was given the brand “The Voice and Heart of Gold Canyon since 1989”. Adobe is honored by that heritage and proud to carry that title into the decades to come as we work together –and at times fight – to keep Gold Canyon, Gold Canyon.
ADOBE is honored to have Mr. Harold Christ as its presenter at the ADOBE October 17, 2024, Community Meeting. In the early 1970s, Mr. Christ had a vision to build a golf resort in a section of land just east of Apache Junction. That land reminded him of old John Wayne films, with saguaro cacti, cowboys, and all that jazz. Development land was difficult to find but Harold was able to purchase 1630 acres at the foothills of the Superstition Mountains. County officials viewed the project as a pipe dream. The area was remote, and there was no substantial
water supply. If he was to start this project the Arizona Water Company would need to run a water main from Apache Junction to this secluded desert site, and after some wrangling they did. The project was pushed through the Pinal County Planning and Zoning Commission with the committee chairperson telling Harold they allowed it out of sympathy for his effort since no one ever believed it would happen. But it did happen and it became the first planned community in the history of Pinal County. Harold is now the owner and CEO of the Windmill Winery in Florence, Arizona. Nearly twenty-five years after dirt began to fly at the planned resort Harold’s dream has turned into a magnificent reality. Many stories surround this resort including movie and singing stars, and a community contest that gave Gold Canyon its name – but we will allow Harold to tell the story because it is his story to tell.
All citizens are invited to attend and enjoy this interesting meeting where we all will be able to learn a little more about this place we love and call home. The meeting will be held at the Gold Canyon Best Western Hotel, starting at 6:15 pm with social time and the meeting beginning at 7 pm.
We hope to see you at this special meeting to give one of our “first pioneers” a special listen and thanks for doing his part in creating the community of Gold Canyon.

ARIZONA LAW REGARDING REMOVING A SAGUARO
The following three paragraphs were pulled off of the web site of the AZ Department of Agriculture, who is tasked with protecting Arizona’s native plants.
“Nowhere in the United States are there more rare and unusual native plants than in Arizona. Most of them are many years old and cannot be replaced. Many people desire to use these "wonders of nature" in their landscaping. However, most of these plants are protected by law. Also, all land in the State of Arizona belongs to someone, whether it be a government agency or a private citizen. Plants cannot be removed from any lands without permission of the owner and a permit from the Department of Agriculture. Lessees of State or federal land must obtain specific authorization from the landlord agency to remove protected native plants.
If you have questions, concerns or need to report suspect activity related to native plants (movement, harvesting, reporting, etc.), please contact the Department's Native Plant Enforcement. Call (602) 364-0907 or email mangulo@ azda.gov.
Landowners have the right to destroy or remove plants growing on their land, but 20 to 60 days prior to the destruction of any protected native plants, landowners are required to notify the Department. The landowner also has the right to sell or give away any plant growing on the land. However, protected native plants may not be legally possessed, taken or transported from the growing site without a permit from the Arizona Department of Agriculture.”
My experience with ADA and the plant police is this; if you want to move a Saguaro from one site to another site on the same property, and you own the property, you can move it without a permit. However, if you are moving the saguaro to a property you do not own, even if you are gifting someone else the plant, you must have a permit to move it. The permits are inexpensive, but you will have to make a trip to the capital to pick it up.
One plus is that no permit is needed for any saguaro under 4ft.
A complete list of protected Native plants can be found at https://agriculture.az.gov/about-us/divisions/plant-services

DELIGHTFULLY - SEIZE THE DAY
We look in all sorts of directions for the secret to finding motivation. Maybe if we woke up earlier, if we were more consistent, if we could just find the perfect time, desk, gadget, then maybe motivation would follow. Sometimes, it could be a motivational idiom that is the catalyst that propels you forward. Delightfully - Seize the Day is an idiom that provides a unique perspective on motivation.
Most of the time when someone mentions motivation for getting more done or starting something new, we will often couple it with discipline—that is, an unrelenting strictness, precise execution, and perfect adherence to the rules we set up for ourselves. Unfortunately, that leads to having a sense of punishment if we slip up, we then either reprimanded ourselves or someone else does which usually ends the motivation for the activity before it starts. There is a plethora of reasons why motivation may evaporate—is it too difficult, daunting, or dull? Other times we may not even realize it is something we do not even want to do but we have held the belief for so long that we think that we should do it.
Thankfully, there is an antidote to such resistance. Instead of attaching punishments to what we set out to do, we can nurture what is “delightful discipline”—that is, finding motivation for things simply by making them more appealing.
The heart of motivation is simple: we need to keep doing the things we find enjoyable. Even for difficult things, if we can find a way to enjoy it—we can make it easier, make it smaller, make it fun. We can make it delightful.
Delightful discipline by its very nature is flexible and therefore more compatible with our human tendencies. Distractions, changing our minds about priorities, imperfection or making mistakes are human traits which punishing discipline ignores. Practicing “delightful discipline” can help us become more attuned and stay motivated. Taking a “most days” approach, where we commit to the practice or skill over the long haul, stay attuned to our energy levels, and remember to start again tomorrow if we need to.
Delightful discipline can be both the impetus and that which sustains us. When we begin with a fascination or an interest in something, we may well encounter flow and find momentum. If we can then sustain our energy by going slow and steady, sprinkling delight along the way we will find motivation and momentum.
To have fun—to cultivate delight in what we do—we are often driven by what behavioral psychologists call intrinsic motivation. That is the act of doing something without any obvious external rewards or doing something because it is inherently enjoyable and interesting to us.
Sometimes we can put things off because we are waiting to find the motivation—but motivation is not something we find, but rather something we cultivate. This is known as the “motivation trap”: despite the common belief, motivation does not precede action; action precedes motivation. For example, any attempt to start an exercise program or to begin to eat healthy which is tied to a measurable outcome: like losing weight, we tend to lose the motivation because the outcome seems out of reach or even unattainable.
What if we were to look at exercise with delightful discipline —to feel good, rather than to look good—it would become more appealing and attainable. The reward is then in the doing of the action, rather than in the outcome. Starting with fascination or delight is far more appealing than becoming bored or frustrated with a regular practice before you have even begun. It is also more sustainable because you are less likely to give up. We have a better chance of doing something if we enjoy doing it.
If starting is the hardest part of any new discipline, and we can help ourselves by making it more inherently pleasurable to begin, then perhaps we should apply this type of motivation and start the day with the most delightful thing as well.
So, if we ‘Delightfully - Seize the day’ –it may have a ripple effect on our mood as the day unfolds—if we begin by feeling the day cannot get any better than this, we will create a mood that proves it can. So, it is that simple—there is no secret to motivation, but rather we can find our pathway to it by rendering something more delightful.
Accept the challenge to ‘Delightfully –Seize the Day’ – Everyday!
How is it possible to have normal thyroid test results when you have all the symptoms of low thyroid function?
“Functional hypothyroidism” refers to a condition when the thyroid is producing a NORMAL amount of thyroid hormone but other hormone imbalances effectively STOP the thyroid molecules from functioning properly in the body. This condition is fairly common and often overlooked.
Many people recognize the signs of low thyroid (hypothyroidism) such as foggy brain, dry skin and hair, hair loss, fatigue, depression, weight gain, constipation, and hypersensitivity to cold. However, blood test results might show that everything appears normal. At this point, you might tend to look for other causes for the symptoms. But let’s explore this a little further.
If there are plenty of thyroid molecules in the bloodstream but they aren’t able to convert into the active form of thyroid in the cells to do their job, then the body reacts as though the thyroid isn’t producing those hormones.
What Causes Functional Hypothyroidism?
So what’s happening here?
An overproduction or an imbalance of certain other hormones in the body can interfere with how the thyroid hormones are working. For example, if a person is under a lot of stress, either physically or emotionally, the adrenal glands are probably releasing a lot of cortisol. This extra cortisol
in the system can actually stop the conversion of thyroid hormones in the cells and keep them from working properly.
This can also be true in the case of estrogen dominance—a condition in which the estrogen hormone levels are too high in relation to the amount of progesterone in the system. The excess estrogen can interfere with the conversion and action of the thyroid hormone.
In this state of functional hypothyroidism, the body is exhibiting the symptoms of low thyroid even though the thyroid gland may be perfectly healthy.
Detection and Treatment
The first step to restoring health is to determine which, if any, hormones are out of balance. A combination of both blood and saliva lab tests and a careful examination of the symptoms by a knowledgeable medical professional can zero in on these imbalances.
The next step is to establish a protocol designed to bring those hormones into a healthy balance. That may mean finding and treating the root cause of the overproduction of stress hormones like cortisol. In the example of estrogen dominance, it may be as simple as supporting the liver to help metabolize too much estrogen or using certain hormone supplements to bring things into balance.
Once we identify and address these hormone imbalances, the symptoms of hypothyroidism start to disappear without the need for thyroid medications.
LOCAL SUPPORT FUELS COMMUNITY CENTER SUCCESS
The Gold Canyon Community Center is celebrating its first year of operation at 6021 S Kings Ranch Rd with an enthusiastic response from both residents and local businesses. The Center, operated by Gold Canyon Community Inc. (GCCI), has hosted nearly 2,000 visitors during the past year and logged in some 1500 volunteer hours.
In the words of Diana, a frequent visitor to the Center, “This is my happy place. I look forward to coming here for a cup of coffee, a game, a craft lesson – even getting my blood pressure checked.”
GCCI president Dave Coward, director of the Center, gives a big shoutout to its sponsors: “As a nonprofit entity, we depend on grants, sponsorships, and donations for all our operating expenses. The generosity of local business sponsors has been key, including Moore Physical Therapy, TRIAD Pain Group, Heart of Healing Hospice, Right At Home, State Farm Insurance, Todd Jaman Insurance, Gold Canyon Assisted Living, Rebalance Functional Fitness, Kabat Frontier Ace Hardware, Trina’s Cookies, and Lori Blank Real-estate. We can’t thank them enough for giving back to the community and supporting our mission of bringing people together and making a difference in their lives.”
During the year, the Community Center became an official Pinal County Visitors Center and also played host to the first Gold Canyon HOA summit, bringing local homeowner association representatives together to discuss issues of common interest.
An open house first anniversary celebration at the Center is scheduled for Saturday, October 19th, from 9 am – 1 pm. Residents are invited to drop by, bring the family, enjoy food truck treats, meet the sponsors, and review the upcoming schedule of crafts, classes, and events scheduled for the fall and coming year.
Several levels of sponsorship are available to help support the Center with benefits ranging from free use of the facility to extensive opportunities for business promotion and publicity. For more information, visit www.gccincaz.org/thecenter.

Meet Primrose, a lab mix about 2 years old. Here at the shelter she’s a little shy and has been overlooked. She’s a calm, sweet girl and once you get to know her she’s a cuddle bug who likes to be pet. I hope you’ll come down and meet her.
If you’d like some more information on Primrose or any of our other animals available for adoption you can visit the city website www.apachejunction.gov under the Pets section.
Apache Junction Animal Control; Open TuesdaySaturday, 9am to 3pm, located at 725 E Baseline Ave, Apache Junction.

Moving to a new home is an exciting milestone, but in the middle of packing boxes and planning logistics, the task of transferring utilities often slips through the cracks. Skipping this essential step can lead to unwanted stress, unexpected service interruptions, and even extra charges. To help you avoid those issues, here’s a guide on transferring your utilities without a hitch during a move.
1. CREATE A UTILITY CHECKLIST
The first step is to make a checklist of all the utilities you currently use in your home. These commonly include:
• Electricity
• Water
• Gas
• Internet and cable
• Phone services
This checklist will serve as your roadmap, ensuring no service is overlooked when coordinating the move.
HOW TO EASILY TRANSFER UTILITIES AND AVOID MOVING DAY HASSLES
2. NOTIFY UTILITY PROVIDERS EARLY
Get in touch with your utility service providers at least two weeks before your move. Each company will have different requirements for transferring or disconnecting services, so it’s important to ask for specific instructions. Some providers may need more lead time, while others only require a few days’ notice. Make sure you have your new address and moving date ready to provide.
3. SCHEDULE DISCONNECT AND RECONNECT DATES
Once you’ve informed your utility companies, it’s time to schedule disconnect dates for your current home and connection dates for the new one. Plan for a smooth transition by ensuring the services at your new home are activated before you arrive, especially for essential utilities like electricity, water, and internet. You wouldn’t want to arrive at your new home and find yourself without power or internet!
4. ARRANGE FINAL METER READINGS
For services like electricity, gas, and water, arrange a final meter reading on the day you move out. This ensures that your last bill reflects only your usage and protects you from being charged for any utilities after you’ve left.
5. TRANSFER OR CANCEL SUBSCRIPTIONS

If you have subscriptions like cable TV or streaming services, be sure to either transfer or cancel these as needed. Notify these service providers of your move and update your billing information with your new address to avoid any service interruptions.
6. UPDATE BILLING INFORMATION
It’s important to update your billing address with your utility providers, banks, credit card companies, and other relevant financial institutions. This step helps prevent missed payments or late fees, keeping your accounts in good standing.
7. RESEARCH NEW PROVIDERS IF NECESSARY
If you’re moving to a new area with different utility providers, research available options and compare prices to choose the best package for your needs. Schedule installation appointments for services like internet and cable in advance to minimize downtime once you’re settled in.
8. UPDATE YOUR CONTACT INFORMATION
Finally, update your contact information with your utility companies. Make sure they have your current phone number and email address so they can reach you if there are any issues with the transfer process.
By following these steps, you can ensure a smooth utility transfer process and avoid any unnecessary headaches. Planning ahead and staying organized will save you from service interruptions, extra charges, and added stress. With everything in place, you’ll be able to focus on enjoying your new home.
FINANCIAL FOCUS®
With the presidential election just a few weeks away, the public is naturally interested in not just the outcome but what the results will mean for issues of national importance. As a citizen, you likely share these concerns — but how about as an investor? After the votes are counted — or even before — should you make some moves in anticipation of possible changes in policy?
Let’s look at the big picture first, through the lens of history. The financial markets have performed well — and at times, not so well — under Democratic and Republican presidents alike. And the same is true about which party controlled Congress.
While it might be an overstatement to say that decisions made in Washington have no effect on the markets, it’s not always so easy to draw a direct line between what happens there and how the markets perform. For one thing, political candidates often make promises that are not fulfilled, or, if they are, have different results than intended. Also, other institutions can have a significant impact on the markets. For example, the Federal Reserve, which controls short-term
interest rates, can certainly affect many market sectors. And there will always be external events, such as foreign conflicts and even natural disasters, that can make short-term impacts on the investment world.
So, rather than making changes to your portfolio in anticipation of what might happen if certain candidates get elected, or even in response to actual policy changes, look to other factors to drive your investment decisions.
These factors should include the following:
• Your goals – You probably have short- and long-term goals you’d like to achieve. For your short-term goals, such as a wedding, a down payment on a house or a long vacation, you may want to invest in instruments that provide stability of principal. For your long-term goals, most important of which may be a comfortable retirement, you’ll need to own a reasonable number of growth-oriented investments.
• Your risk tolerance – When you build and maintain your investment portfolio, you’ll need to accommodate your individual risk tolerance. All investments carry some type of risk, but you need to be comfortable with the overall risk level of your investments.
• Your time horizon – Where you are in life is an important consideration when investing. When you are young and just starting out in your career, you may be able to focus more on growth, as you have time to overcome the inevitable shortterm market downturns. But as you near retirement, you may want to consolidate any gains you may have achieved, and lower your risk level, by moving your portfolio toward a somewhat more conservative approach. Even in retirement, though, you will need some growth potential to stay ahead of inflation.
• Your needs for liquidity – As you invest, you’ll need to maintain an adequate amount of cash and cash equivalents in your holdings. Without this liquidity, you might be forced to sell long-term investments in case you have unexpected expenses.
In any case, when it comes to investing, you may want to pay less attention to what names are on the ballot — and instead “vote” for the longer-term strategies that reflect your needs and goals.

Our Wreaths Across America Remembrance Day event will be held at 9:30am on Saturday, December 14, 2024, at the Mountain View Cemetery. Their address is 7900 Main Street, Mesa, AZ 85207.
This is our 4th year of having it at the Mountain View Cemetery. Many of you have come out and enjoyed our ceremony and teaching your children what it costs for freedom.
What we are reaching out to are any sponsors who would like to purchase a wreath for $17 to be placed on an interred Veteran’s grave. If anyone purchases 100 wreaths, you will be mentioned on our fliers, media, as well as the day of. (See Order form.) For every wreath sold, WAA will give $5 back to the local veteran community!
We also need volunteers to help with unpacking the wreaths on December 13th and placing the wreaths on the Veterans graves on December 14th
Our ceremony has always been an honorable recognition to all those who have served and sacrificed.
Here is a little peak as to what part of the ceremony will have in it this year:
Our speaker will be Arizona Adjutant General Kerry Muehlenbeck. She is in charge of the Dept of Emergency & Military affairs. Major General Muehlenbeck received her commission in April 2021.
The Arizona Hugh O’Conner Memorial Pipe band will be coming this year.
The Hugh O’Conor Memorial Pipe Band was formed by Neil Flint in 2006. Neil brought together a talented group of pipers and drummers to honor Hugh O’Conor, an exiled Irishman who founded the Spanish presidio from which Tucson, Arizona would eventually grow. Pipe Major Leonard Wood of Phoenix, Arizona, has taken the reins and has reached out to pipers and drummers from across Arizona and the United States to reform the band. This band consists of musicians who are firefighters to small business owners!
Please spread the word to your family and friends about this honorable event!
If anyone who wishes to volunteer, we are requesting that they register at nfass@hotmail.com; This year, Bashas and Texas Roadhouse will be donating their time and food to all volunteers.
