Kartell, the leading Italian design company, is one of the symbols of the unstoppable creativity of the Made in Italy around the world. Each series of product - furniture, furnishings, lighting, home accessories – has written a little piece of its success story and has become part of the domestic landscape, not to mention actual contemporary design icons and their added-value intrinsic to the product. Sharing with the Azimut Yachts brand the same design values, Kartell has participated this year in the Azimut Benetti XI Yachting Gala, showcasing a selection of products from its Tableware and Lighting Collection. © Kartell

EDITORIAL
Superb elegance In this last issue of the year 2018, we have shown all the different faces of the elegance, starting from the one emerging from the folk atmosphere at the Azimut Benetti Yachting Gala, to the lively intelligence of the Kartell products, up to the brazen audacity of contemporary art or that one expressed by Sanlorenzo and preserved in a glass case, to be passed down over the generations. Elegance can be everywhere, it embodies a superb character. You can find it in many aspects of your life and can take different forms, it's just the way you look at the things surrounding you.
Elegance is also in the personal vision we have about things, and photography is the perfect tool to capture it. But never give up to hazard asymmetric visions. As Bernardo Zuccon explains, we need willingness to experiment different solutions beyond our traditions.
If you then love sporty characters, Sergio Cutolo's Crossbow, embodies the essence of a brave design, perfectly aware of its integrity. A superb, elegant vision for those who want to express personality in their choices. Latona, Great Glamer and Joy are the most intriguing chapters in this story, novels about extreme taste, refined but ostentatious, vain and narcissistic, and that for this reason you can not stop admiring, until losing yourself in their enchanting magic.
In 2018 elegance is also expressed through hightechnology products, and LED-lights can even pay tribute to a woman's body, which proud as a Sphinx, can virtually dominate the entrance of a congress centre.
The elegance of a journey is certainly the most fascinating dimension, because it is closer to our soul. While our body moves, travels and discovers new places, our mind is free to float in search of deepest meanings and messages. Be aware of who you are and express yourself in the most elegant way that suits you best!

MAKING MONEY IS ART. HOW TO SPEND IT IS OPPORTUNITY.
M
illionaires spend money to maximize their time because time has become the world's most valuable commodity. A one-of-a-kind, since you can somehow save time but the truth is, you can only spend it. Once gone, there is no way to get it back and no place where to store it. The art fairs' world and how they have developed since the beginning of the century, popping up eveywhere, clearly reflects this phenomenon. We’re living in the golden era of unevenly distributed global wealth creation, which, for the art market, means business is booming. The market is back up after years of decline and, according to Art Basel Report 2018, the global art economy grew for the first time since 2014, reaching $63.7 billion in total global sales, a rise of 12% from 2016. It was only in the early 2000s that art fairs really took off. “The reason that art fairs have become so important has to do with the shifting demographics of wealth,” says Marc Spiegler, the global director of Art Basel. “Wealth is more and more in the hands of people who are working, rather than those who’ve inherited it.” While previous generations might have had the time to travel the world looking for choice paintings and objets, current collectors “are actively building their fortunes,” Spiegler says. An art fair, with hundreds of galleries in a single space that’s in, or close to, collectors’ homes “allows patrons today to discover a lot of galleries and artists in a concentrated way.” The same can be said about the second biggest fair hosted by the City of Basel, Baselworld, the watch industry's biggest trade show, now more than ever in a very serious competition with the SIHH, held in Geneva in January, and now considered its tremendous rival. Some haute horlogèrie brands see SIHH as the best watch show for its smaller and more cozy size, for the exclusivity of the ambiance and for being a by-invitation-only event targeted on retail clients. However, the socalled "Big Five Brands"- Rolex, Patek Philippe, the Swatch Group, Chopard, and the LVMH group (Bulgari, TAG Heuer, Hublot and Zenith) - report

Also in terms of geographical position, the city of Basel, representing Switzerland’s most dynamic business center, is strategically located at the meeting point of three countries: Switzerland, France and Germany. Known for its quality of life, Basel offers the advantages of an urban lifestyle with easy access to the pristine Swiss countryside. Contributing to the high standard of living in Basel are a multitude of international organizations based in the region. The international profile of Basel has been strengthened by the many pharmaceutical and chemical companies which include, Roche, Novartis, Syngenta, Lonza and Clariant.
Every year the arrival of the spring brings to the city of Basel the thrilling atmosphere of the art fair, an event representing a unique opportunity for the City since it allows to combine commerce, parties and culture. The event that every year attracts top clients from all over the world is a key-moment for the entire industry rotating around the UHNWIs' lifestyle. For the Swiss FBO and maintenance facility, Air Service Basel, every year the art exhibition represents an occasion to test the best of its service, welcoming in only one week guests from all over the world. The exhibition is just a 10-minute drive from the private terminal and Air Service Basel’s VIP handling services with direct ramp access, limousine transfers, and crew facilities are ideal for clients travelling to visit the exhibition.
"One of our really strong plus points, which helps to win us a great deal of business, is the large hangar space that we can offer. We have nearly 7,500 square metres of hangar space and we offer parking for long, medium and short-term stays. We can accommodate aircraft up to the Airbus A320s and Boeing Business Jets (BBJs). We also still have a thriving maintenance operation, focusing mainly on King Airs, the smaller Gulfstreams and the smaller Hawker Beechcraft jets. These are the mainstay of our maintenance business, but we also accomodate a range of other aircraft", says CEO Claudio Lasagni. "Also this year, the company recorded successful numbers with over 750 customers coming through the FBO over the week, from countries far and wide including Hong-Kong, Canada and Azerbaijan. Basel is not only a financial centre or the best place to buy artworks, it is virtually the centre of the pharmaceuticals industry in Europe and on top of this you have many tourist attractions in the area, with easy access by road to France, Germany and Switzerland, so clients come in for that. We are very close to the Black Forest and to the Alsace region and we are not far from our own mountains either. A half hour or hour’s drive will take you to many of the famous ski resorts in the region".

We asked CEO Air Service Basel, Claudio Lasagni, how their company changed the way to satisfy all theirs clients' needs over the last 10 years and his vision about Art Basel. "We expanded our maintenance facility almost ten years ago to cater for the private jet handling demand in Basel. The Art Basel week is a very important week for us, and for the city in general. We look forward to the event every year so we can provide our guests with a personalised experience. Its our mission to make guests feel cared for and appreciated from their arrival to their departure. The most popular days are usually around the VIP gallery where the clients can purchase art work before the main exhibition opens to the public". SANLORENZO FOR EMILIO ISGRÒ
C
onfirming its relation with the world of art, by partnering with Art Basel in Basel 2018, the Italian shipyard Sanlorenzo attended the art exhibition with a tribute to the Italian artist Emilio Isgrò. Over the years Sanlorenzo has emerged thanks to its innovative approach, overcoming conventions and taking unexplored pathways: with dedication, courage and an entrepreneurial attitude Massimo Perotti, Chairmain and CEO of Sanlorenzo, has led the company to open itself to different realities which, however, speak similar languages like art and design, so to suggest a different way to experience sea life, leaving crystallised habits behind. Sanlorenzo has engaged in several collaborations with important galleries and cultural institutions like Milan’s Triennale, during FuoriSalone 2017 and 2018, and with Galleria Tornabuoni Arte, with which it has set up some exhibitions on its own yachts, on the occasion of Art Basel Miami Beach in 2016 and the 57th edition of Venice’s Biennale D’Arte.
On a consistent, transversal pathway which has brought it closer and closer to the world of art, during the year of its 60th anniversary Sanlorenzo has chosen the Art Basel show in Basel to tell the international audience about itself through the impressive installation set up at the Collectors Lounge, signed by Piero Lissoni, the company’s new art director, who pays tribute to Emilio Isgrò, one of the best-known contemporary Italian artists. An ethereal, suspended space whose perimeter is marked by Isgrò’s "erasures" reproduced on its walls. A sea made up of lines, signs, words through which the models of Sanlorenzo’s superyachts, displayed inside glass cases, seem to sail around the artwork "I viaggi della mente" ("The travels of the mind") by Emilio Isgrò, which is exhibited at the centre of the installation.
IN BASEL YACHTING SPEAKS THE SAME LANGUAGE AS ART AND DESIGN. PIERO LISSONI SIGNS AN ART INSTALLATION FOR SANLORENZO, PAYING TRIBUTE TO ITALIAN ARTIST EMILIO ISGRO'.
the company’s experience, artisanship and innovation, embodied by six different superyacht models, a type of boat that offers shipowners the most authentic sense of adventure at sea, providing large, complex spaces on board combined with the latest technologies so to make exploring far, untouched destinations a completely independent experience.
Each model results from a totally transversal, innovative project, where the creation of the boat, forged by metal as a work of art, goes alongside interior design, a sartorial creation signed by famous architects, customised in detail to obtain the desired effect. A project where elegance and attention to detail merge with living comfort and space optimisation, revealing a strong sense of coherence and unity, thanks to its meticulous care for lighting, furniture, accessories and materials, which make up the overall setting. Ulysses, the Greek hero from the Odyssey, is an explorer who sets out to discover the world with his own boat and his crew, as well as a traveller who longs for knowledge. His desire to learn and understand leads him to unknown destinations. Emilio Isgrò’s Odyssey also recounts a discovery, the revelation of a hidden meaning behind the words erased by the poem. The artist takes a cultural journey, a pathway capable of lighting up by contrasts and to bring new light, new meanings to Homer’s verses. Because each traveller is a contemporary Ulysses who reflects on the world and wants to discover it. Likewise, each journey is a discovery of places, people, cultures: a wonderful journey which begins from one’s mind and continues at sea. I viaggi della mente (The travels of the mind) A tribute to Emilio Isgrò
Through the cases, visitors are invited to discover Sanlorenzo’s projects firsthand, from a unique point of view toward each detail, recalling the theme of transparency, the aesthetic, functional motif of Sanlorenzo’s yachts which have firstly introduced large, floor-to-ceiling windows, making it possible to enhance the sense of liveableness on board, creating a strong connection between interiors and exteriors.
(opposite page) Travels of the mind. Homage to Emilio Isgrò. The art installation signed by Piero Lissoni for Sanlorenzo at Art Basel 2018
Thus Piero Lissoni describes the natural connection between Sanlorenzo and art, honouring Emilio Isgrò and creating a wunderkammer, with an hyperminimalistic approach which is typical of his style, highlighting

continued to invest money and resources in the yachting sector. In our interview published in the issue of January, Mr Larence Wang Dafu, founder of the China Rendez-Vous and Chairman of Visun Real Estate group, stated that "the Hainan Province Governor has put yacht industry as the region’s strategic focus of development. He proposed to establish Hainan Province as a first-class yacht consumption destination, a world-class yacht brands display window, and become the experimental area of yacht industry reform and innovation, which has given great confidence to the investors in our yacht industry. I trust that when the relevant elements of the yacht industry are available, the stakeholders are mature enough, the uncertainty of China's yacht industry will fall into a reasonable range". Visun Group is financially strong enough to have the power to develop new initiatives not only to push the market in favour of marinas and yacht building but also towards the creation of a real yachting culture. As anticipated in Viareggio on the occasion of the Versilia Yachting Rendez-Vous, Visun Group has launched its new e-platform Célophi. Under this new brand clients will experience an ‘online-offline’ commercial platform for products, services and yachting lifestyle. The online platform will offer an unparalleled range of luxury life solutions ranging from yacht and yacht interior products to luxury goods and a high-end lifestyle management service. As well, a multi-brand offline space will be located at Visun Yacht Club in Sanya with a VIP Lounge. Chen Yuntao, Vice President of Visun Group, says, “We are witnessing a new era for yachts and sailing to new adventures. The partnership between Nautica Italiana and the new lifestyle platform for Visun will promote the nautical sector to a level of excellence for Italy and China.”
The official opening and launch of the online-offline spaces for Célophi is scheduled during the China RendezVous in December 2018, where a dedicated Italian Lifestyle Pavilion will showcase this exciting business development for the yachting industry.

SUPERYACHTS' CAPTAINS MEET AT YARE IN THE MAJOR HUB OF THE GLOBAL SUPERYACHT INDUSTRY YARE 2018, THE MUST-ATTEND EVENT FOR SUPERYACHTS' CAPTAINS, HAS RECORDED ANOTHER POSITIVE EDITION THIS YEAR. HELD IN THE YACHTING DISTRICT OF VIAREGGIO, MORE THAN 1500 MEETINGS TOOK PLACE DURING THE EVENT.
D
uring the eighth edition of YARE, the business event focusing on aftersales and refit, 1,500 meetings took place, 110 Captains, 90 Italian and foreign companies, 400 participants at the Superyacht Captains Forum and 1,500 meetings (B2C - Meet the Captain) attended the business event. These numbers show that the event is gaining more and more success, attesting as the international appointment dedicated to refit and aftersales of the Superyacht sector. For the first time, YARE was hosted in the center of one of the most important nautical districts in the world, which includes 1,400 companies, equal to 40% of the companies in the sector in Tuscany, a major hub of the global superyacht industry. The choice of location was appreciated by companies that have been able to optimize their time between networking with the Captains, visits to construction sites and meetings with other entrepreneurs in the sector.
For many years, YARE has offered industry professionals a dynamic programme and opportunity for meetings and discussions, business, networks and information. The Superyacht Captains' Forum - renewing its format at each edition and meeting the needs of a highly specialized audience - has given way to tackling and deepening concrete aspects of a fundamental slice of the pleasure yachting market. It has encouraged technical discussions and exchanges of information on what challenges and

what approach to the refit and aftersales market have to face in the near future, considering that the fleet of yachts globally counts 5,649 units from 30 up to over 100 meters.
In this edition, a higher number of companies and Captains used the YARE mobile App than previous years, allowing enhanced communication between the organizers and delegates. The day of the “B2C Meet the Captains!” demonstrated that the profiling, communication and matching strategies between the companies and Captains worked well.
This method made it possible to arrive at the day before the event with agendas of meetings already shared and with an average satisfaction that for companies was already 76.2% and for the Captains equal to 89.16%. The use of digital tools has allowed us to carry out a number of meetings higher than those expected. The companies declared, through the App at the end of each meeting, that 81% of the meetings were interesting and as expected. An important point of view is that of the Captains who showed 76% of interest towards the services offered by the company. The Captains stated that 92.3% of the meetings were fully in line with expectations and interesting for the activities of their yachts, with the possibility declared by over 70% of the services offered in the short term. "The effectiveness of the relationships that we are able to tighten, not only between companies and captains, but also among the companies that are protagonists of the yachting industry, is very appreciated". All these positive elements speak of an event capable of giving a business opportunity to a sector that exists and which sees in Viareggio the center of international interest, not only for the purchase of superyachts, but also for the aftersales.
"The market shows an unquestioned Italian record with data on the construction of superyachts that indicate an interesting growth for the new building, but also for the whole refit, repair and aftersales sector considering that a large building after its production is worth six times its value in terms of spending - states Vincenzo Poerio, President of YARE. Also, for Tuscany, with companies very oriented to the superyacht sector - this event represents an opportunity to deepen the news and trends and enlarge the market". The YARE format has reached a very good and international level and the event has now entered, in all respects, the calendar of appointments of sector experts.
Thanks to the endorsement of important national and foreign associations, YARE is supported both by private companies and institutions. YARE is organized and promoted by NAVIGO, a service center for the innovation and development of boating with the support of the Nautical Technology District and the Port of Tuscany. YARE was sponsored this year by NCA Refit, Lürssen, Bureau Veritas, Galene, H&H, Jotun, Lusben, One Ocean Port Vell Barcelona and Porto Mirabello, and supported by the most important yachting associations and major institutions.
Superyacht Digest for the 4th consecutive year supported the event, recognizing the importance of the relations with the Captains and the way they interact with the yards and the whole supply chain. On our social media pages you can find the full storytelling of this year's edition. The next edition is scheduled from 20th to 23rd March 2019. For more info visit yarenetworking.com

BUILDING ENVIRONMENTAL AWARENESS. THE 2018 EDITION OF THE BENETTI YACHT MASTER FOCUSED ON GREEN TOPICS BENETTI YACHT MASTER 2018 WAS ANOTHER GRATIFICATION FOR THE BRAND AND ITS COMMUNITY OF CAPTAINS, CREWS, PROFESSIONALS AND SPONSORS.
D
uring the five legs of this edition more and more contemporary topics in the yachting business have emerged, above all the increasingly
environmental protection
importance of . After the October 2017 Spanish event and the last February Italian leg, in May it was the time of Miami for the last event of this edition. The US leg was preceded in April by the Singapore and Monaco Roadshows.
Wonderful feedback for the 18th edition of the Benetti Yachtmaster, the event that gathers together captains and yachting professionals and brings them up to speed on all the novelties and at the same time offers a series of panel discussions and networking opportunities. In addition, the last US event, which ended with a large party and the promise to return next year, confirmed the success of this event and affirmed its role as one of the most important gathering of industry professionals, organised by a private shipyard. Important novelties have been introduced for this last leg. First and foremost was the change of location: Benetti has left the water and chosen to move to exclusive downtown Miami, the beating heart of this city with its spectacular ultra-modern skyline. Introduced by Roberto Corno, Worldwide Sales Director, the American event was

attended by 34 professionals, many of them attending Yachtmaster for the first time. The workshops, after a focus on The International Safety Management Code For the Safe Operation of Ships and on the MLC 1.4 Convention guidelines, discussed topics linked to the
development of sustainable yachting.
The speakers included captain Craig Tafoya, president of ACT2 Technologies Water Reclamation and Purification, the innovative company at the forefront of the fight to clean up and preserve the world’s seas, who drew attention to increasing interest in onboard wastewater treatment systems. Catherine Kent, an attorney with law firm Alley, Maass, Rogers & Lindsay, then went on to illustrate the latest bureaucratic novelties in the US charter industry and, finally, Stefano Mazzoleni of Rina, in his capacity as a panelist, introduced and directed the workshop “Introduction to Marpol”, the international convention for the
prevention of pollution caused by ships.
The US leg was preceded by the Roadshows in Singapore (April 9) and in Monaco (April 18), two of the most exclusive destinations in the yachting world. In Singapore, after a welcome speech by Benetti Asia General Manager Peter Mahony, the main subject of the
environment
meeting was once again the . Benetti is increasingly aware of the importance of limiting the
ecosystem
impact of yachting on the and for this reason, in Singapore too, the company invited Rina, represented by Leander Aarons, Marine South East Asia & India Area Director, to moderate the workshop entitled “Introduction to Marpol”.
The Monaco Roadshow, hosted by the exclusive Yacht Club de Monaco, also featured the participation of numerous captains who are also Yacht Club members. The presentations by Alexander von Stein from the Marshall Islands Registry and Jean-Philippe Maslin from Ince & CO turned the subject of debate to French Social Charges, while Giorgio Gallo and Enrico Ursomando from Rina put the spotlight back on the environment with their illustration of Tier III, the regulations that have introduced the requirement to install catalytic converters for marine engines too, in order to reduce nitrogen oxide emissions in exhaust fumes. Lusben, a major player in the refit and repair segment thanks to its huge production facilities and expertise, finally brought the working sessions to a close with a presentation of its main activities and future projects. Roberto Corno, Benetti worldwide sales director, commented: “The high attendance at each leg of Yachtmaster this year confirms the importance of this unique event, which has become a traditional appointment for captains and crews. In addition to the chance to network and learn about the latest novelties, Yachtmaster is the only event in the sector to offer opportunities to exchange views and experiences in a constructive setting, not only with the shipyard, but also with co-workers, suppliers and industry professionals”. Roy Deas, who works on the M/Y Jazz of Monaco (a Benetti Tradition) and is one of the youngest Benetti captains, said: “This is a key event, because it offers both an opportunity for crew members to meet, as well as giving people a chance to share opinions and experiences, and likewise to learn new details about Benetti growth strategies.” 34
Sewage surfer, Justin Hofman, USA, finalist at the 2017 Wildlife Photojournalist Award Justin watched, delighted as the seahorse bounced from one piece of natural debris to the next. However, as rubbish and sewage began to sluice the shore, the creature seized upon this cotton bud as a stable anchor. Justin’s admiration for the beautiful seahorse soon turned to ‘vitriolic anger’ at the ‘incoming tide of pollution and litter’. Because of their unusual equine shape, seahorses are poor swimmers. They propel themselves forward using their wing-like dorsal fins, with their smaller pectoral fins used for steering. It’s exhausting work, so they often catch a ride or take a break by clinging to sea grasses and corals with their prehensile tails. Justin Hofman spends most of his time working on expedition vessels as an educator, lecturer, dive guide, photographer or expedition leader. This work has taken him to every ocean and some of the most remote places on Earth where human impact can nonetheless be seen. His goal is to educate people on ways they can support conservation efforts through the daily choices they make. © Justin Hofman Wildlife Photojournalist Award The Natural History Museum (London) nhm.ac.uk justin-hofman.com

THE “70 YEARS OF PORSCHE SPORTS CAR” ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATED THROUGH THE IMAGINATION OF PETER LINDBERGH, WHOSE IMAGES AND METHODS OFFER A UNIQUE INTERPRETATION OF A STORY, MAKING IT TRULY INSPIRING.
T
he “70 years of Porsche sports car” anniversary made it all possible: Peter Lindbergh, known for his fashion photography and his images of wellknown subjects, has done Porsche the honour of making the concept study of the first fully electric Porsche, the Mission E, and the iconic 911 sports car the subjects of a new series of photographs. The location for this very special interpretation of the Porsche anniversary was a beach in Ault, northern France.
The photographic series was created as part of the “Porsche Talent Project”, the latest chapter in the Stuttgart-based automotive manufacturer’s ongoing history of involvement in culture and the arts. The project was launched by the sports car manufacturer last year with the aim of giving 39
young artists the opportunity to collaborate with the greats from the field. Skander Khlif, a young artist from Munich, shadowed Lindbergh on the shoot, and had the opportunity to produce his own images under the guidance of the photographer to the stars. Lindbergh enjoys being a mentor, but rarely gets the opportunity.
"FOR ME, PORSCHE HAS ALWAYS EXPRESSED SOMETHING UNIQUE, SOMETHING PERSONAL. AND ALWAYS WITHOUT ANY CLAIM TO PERFECTION. THE RESULT IS A UNIQUE KIND OF POETRY", SAYS LINDBERGH. SUPERYACHT DIGEST |

Known for his memorable cinematic images, Peter Lindbergh is recognised as one of the most influential contemporary photographers. Born in Lissa, Germany, in 1944, he grew up inspired by the work of Van Gogh. In 1971 he moved to Dßsseldorf where he turned his attention to photography and worked for two years assisting German photographer Hans Lux, before opening his own studio in 1973. Considered a pioneer in photography, he introduced a form of new realism by redefining the standards of beauty with timeless images. His humanist approach and idealisation of women sets him apart from the other photographers as he privileges the soul and the personality. He changed drastically the standards of the fashion photography in times of excessive retouching considering that there is something else that makes a person interesting, beyond their age. His singular vision, presents them in their pure state, "in all honesty", avoiding all stereotypes as he privileges a face with hardly any make-up, in a baring that enhances the authenticity and the natural beauty of his women. He offered a new interpretation of women post-1980’s without paying too much attention to the clothes, considering that "If you take out the fashion and the artifice, you can then see the real person", Lindbergh says.
Lindbergh is the first photographer to include a narrative in his fashion series, his storytelling brought a new vision of art and fashion photography. Over the years, he has created images that marked the history of photography, characterised by a minimalist approach of the post-modernist photography. His work is best known for his simple and revealing portraits, his still lives and his strong influences from early German Cinema and industrial surroundings of his childhood, dance and cabarets, but also landscapes and outer space. His work is part of the permanent collections of many Fine Arts museums around the world and has also been shown in prestigious museums and galleries.

Today he flies on board helicopters as photographer to capture the best photos of the world’s most interesting superyachts. For a couple of years Tom Van Oossanen has been dominating yachting newsfeeds around the world with his photographic achievements, quickly becoming one of the industry’s most well recognised superyacht photographers.
Some of his best pictures are documentary reportage and creative compositions. In every shot there is a sentiment expressed through the light, the landscape or a natural detail. Through his lens the ordinary looks strikingly ingenious, able to permeate also a

human message that seem to hide that luxury dimension to which all megayachts belong by nature.
The beauty of his shots - his looks - is in the contrasts, that seem to be the fil rouge of most of his work. Black or white, great proportions compared to small details or natural vs city landscapes.
In the selection of pictures here chosen for the article, we can perceive that the focus is not on the yacht but on the scene. The yacht is part of something that is happening in that moment, with which she creates a sort of spontaneus, romantic dialogue. Tom Van Oossanen, maybe still working to improve his techniques, is on the right way to overcome that fine line that separates photography from art. 44

After seeing my very first superyacht back in 1999, Amels’ Boadicea, as she was conducting sea trials from my hometown of Den Helder, I have been fascinated by yachts.
I bought my first camera when I was 12, and from then on I was to be found every day taking photos at Den Helder’s port and airport, honing my new found craft. Over the years I even became something of a local celebrity, so often was I down there. When I was 18 I started working for a shipping agency which provides services for the oil & gas industry on the Dutch Continental Shelf. During the 5 years I worked there, I was not a day without my camera, always taking photos of the boats arriving into the port. During that time I also went to Ibiza and the South of France to picture some yachts, because that is where my real passion was. When I went to Monaco in 2012 I asked the organization if I could take some photos of the boats there, in return I would have given them some of the photos taken during the Monaco Yacht Show. They liked the idea and so I went back also the following year. Then the superyacht virus really kicked in. I had my first photos published in Boat International and I was following some superyachts around on transport through the Netherlands.

When I left the shipping company, I went to work for a helicopter company. Aviation has always been a huge passion of mine and I am still dreaming of becoming a helicopter pilot one day, preferably on a superyacht of course!
I had a great year at the helicopter company but when I had the opportunity to work for the SuperYacht Times team I took it. I worked for this publication for 3 years, traveled the world and got to know the industry a lot better. I got the chance to develop my photography skills and go to places I would usually never go. It was a great adventure which I am thankful for. But now it is time for me to start on my own and it is my aim to provide the industry with high quality, unique superyacht photography. The past 16 years have been a great journey and I am happy to be where I am now. One day I hope to be one of the bigger superyacht photographers and inspire new generations of superyacht owners with attractive imagery.
We have to understand in this industry that most people will only ever see superyachts on a photo and we have to make sure that photo is on the same level as the service these boats provide.

"I was at the yard in La Spezia yesterday, I was pervaded by a strong emotion as I saw our latest project returning from sea trials. Our studio puts the passion for the project at the core of its activity, together with the relationships with our staff and clients. This combination makes us fall in love with the project. We translate our job into love".
BERNARDO ZUCCON
PERFECTLY ASYMMETRIC AFTER WRITING THE HISTORY OF THE FERRETTI GROUP DESIGN FOR 26 LONG YEARS, ZUCCON INTERNATIONAL PROJECT IS TODAY FOCUSED ON A NEW "STORY", A NEW IMPORTANT CHALLENGE THAT THE STUDIO IS FACING AS ITS NEW MISSION.
T
he Rome-based design studio was founded in 1976 thanks to the adventurous and resourceful spirit of its two founders, Arch. Gianni Zuccon and his wife, Arch. Paola Galeazzi. They started with a project for an 18-metre boat, but at that time there was lack of knowledge of yachting products, since boating was almost a practically non-existent sector. It was a complex time of confusion, full of ideals but also contradictions. The 1970s was the decade of the divorce boom and a period of social and political turmoil in Italy. But hard times create strong men, and perhaps it was this social feeling to give impulse to figures such as the Zuccon family, for whom their job was pure passion, more than a businnes opportunity.
Today, after 40 years of activity, passion is still the driving force of Zuccon International Project. "Besides the great heritage, today we inherit the love for our job, a passion into the project", explains Bernardo Zuccon. "What therefore involves us, is not so much designing but rather creating, making, experimenting. We do not have a typical yacht-design approach, we are architects. This means for us the boat is first of all considered as a place to live. It is life in the middle of the sea, a space not so much different from home. Parameters are the same". Bernardo Zuccon expresses himself freely, without needing to ask questions. A clean, genuine mind and emotional honesty. "Home is my habitat, the place where I live, where I am. I prefer the emotional component in the design project, rather than its being a luxury product, which often makes it environment of almost immoral dynamics...".
Bernardo and Martina Zuccon, both architects, continue the course of their parents, facing a generational evolution in the most natural way. As in the best novels, this story is rich in facts, which seem to metaphorically express this period of change: in the moment when the job is passing from father to son, the studio leaves Ferretti Group to accept the new challenges of Sanlorenzo Yachts. And like in a novel of initiation, the young protagonist is soon involved in new adventures. Also from a geographical point of view they changed their destination. Yesterday the studio'projects saw the light by the Adriatic Sea, today they are launched in La Spezia, surrounded by the Tyrrenian Sea. 55
Love derives from passion, from the Latin, patire (to suffer). "From the design up to reality, there is a path of mixed anxiety-suffering-waiting for the desire - the urge - to see the boat finally built", explains Bernardo. "We are the first studio in Italy in the nautical sector, making reference to the ranking of the Top 50 Italian architecture and design firms published in the Sole24Ore newspaper, and in twenty third place overall. We are hard workers! We have always had the success of every single project in mind, not ours. Today most design firms are organized with an almost virtual working method and people working remotely. We have instead preserved a traditional approach, with all the relevant management costs. We are a bulky studio in comparison, as big and heavy as a pachyderm. We are used to share daily the development of the project with all the staff involved. Even when the yachting sector was living its darkest times, and there were only a few projects left, we preserved intact the value of the team and unchaged the number of staff members. That little bit of activity was shared among all the people. Our collaborators have always been our wealth". Zuccon International Project boasts today a prestigious collaboration with the Italian yard Sanlorenzo, with which they share mission, projects and a sort of sense of belonging. This full involvement has recently become more evident with the task of restyling also the Bluegame lines, the new brand of the group. "We are working for Sanlorenzo, bringing new ideas and concepts - new visions - but in full respect of the yard's DNA. Architects should work for the product's identity - in this case, the one of the brand, of the yard - not to make their signature, their hand, recognizable. We could never make similar projects for the same kind of boat, working for different shipyards. The designer must have the same quality as the water and be able to take the shape of its container. The DNA, the tradition of the yard, of a brand, is sacred. The architect just has to interpret it, innovating, not to smother it. Just in time to celebrate the 60th anniversary of Sanlorenzo, Zuccon International Project debuts with its asymmetric vision and unveil its SL102, the first motor yacht in the world with an asymmetric layout: as Bernardo explains, this solution has not to be considered only in terms of more square metres - 10 to be precise - but for the possibility to get more viewpoints and perspectives. With the aim of obtaining greater usability of the interior spaces, the SL102 rethinks the well-established layout of a yacht. The asymmetry has in fact allowed to place a large dining room with a floor-to-ceiling window that overlooks the sea on one side, while on the other, to starboard, a living room that opens on a balcony. Similar to a modern villa on the sea, this non-tradition layout allows more space, but also more brightness, relaxation, and better flexibility of use. "We aimed at offering a new typological approach, conceiving the space much more freely, out of the box and far from the boundaries that limit the way we live and move". This solution reflects the yard’s DNA and its intrinsic capacity to redesign the interior of a boat, expanding the boundaries of nautical design each time. SL102 will debut at the next boat shows in September, together with the smallest yacht in the Sanlorenzo crossover line, SX72, the new 23-metre yacht designed by Zuccon International Project, devoted to environmental sustainability.

TWO OPPOSITES IN HARMONY "My sister Martina and I are two perfectly aligned opposites - to stay with the image of asymmetries. We are aware of the great cultural background left by our parents in the yachting sector - and we are proud to be able to continue their work, with responsability and respect for our tradition. We will face every new challenge with the courage of who wants to do well. This actually means to do better and better, trying to question yourself to find new inspirations". Next year the studio will move its headquarters to another location in the city centre of Rome. "The new offices will occupy an entire renovated building surrounded by an immense park with private pool. We want to welcome our guests in a pleasant environment and give our staff the possibility to live their daily routine without losing the contact with the outdoor. Going out for a walk, enjoying and listening to the nature... This will provide us with an enormous stimulus."

LOOKING FORWARD "Looking forward means having the courage to change, question the archetypes that made symmetry a doctrine. To bring changes and innovation we need new ideas but also willingness to experiment different solutions. Without revolutions or the liberating provocation of the avan-gard movements, even the architecture could have never evolved. Shifting the balance does not mean creating disharmony or break, but finding a new one that maybe we like better. Only if we try to find new ways, we can offer new possibilities of action and interaction with the space".

THE BEAUTY RESIDES IN THE DARK SIDE OF OUR BODY Nature designed us perfect, but aymmetric. Inside and outside our body has the right and the left side perfectly different. Inside the difference is due to functional reasons, outside it is in the shape. Beauty just resides in that imperceptible difference. As shows the photographic work by Alex John Beck, if our face was symmetric, it will be objectively less perfect, even less natural. The photographer took numerous portraits, then mirrored one half of the face and created for each person a new perfectly symmetric face. Comparing the two versions, the original face with the one recreated, there is no doubt. Naturalness resides in asymmetry. In conclusion, beauty requires two different sides, one of which remains dark because not perceieved as different.
SUPERYACHT DIGEST |

A symmetric shape is a finished shape, and there all its beauty is confined. It is given by precise proportions, balanced sizes, regular intervals, same ratios. The concept of beauty lies instead in the geometry of an infinite space, only then a shape can be free, when it is not hindered by preconceived patterns. It is in its free movement that it expresses its natural, non-artificial, charm. Try to imagine when you desperately desire something. Your pleasure is in yearning, not in the possession.
History tells us about the coexistence of two ideals of beauty. The first is the model of the Greek Venus, which prevails also nowadays, the second is the Paleolithic Venus, exaggerated, heavy, overflowing, with her large breasts, huge round stomach, ample thighs, and tiny fat feet. Beauty can't be limited within absolute references, otherwise the personal identity would lose its importance. That the identity of a person - of a people - is given by the union of its shape and its beauty, has been clear since the time of the Trojan War, when the beauty of the irresistible Helen became the centre of the world, igniting the conflict. If we limit beauty and its potential within a pre-established model, we choose the wrong perspective.

The Pythagoreans were the first to establish that harmony is in the contrast, in the opposition of two aspects: even/ odd, limited/unlimited, unity/multiplicity, right/left, male/ female, square/rectangle, straight/curves... But with them the problem was that only one of the two represented perfection: odd numbers, straight lines and squares are good and beautiful, while their opposite represents the Mistake, the Bad, Disarmony.
SUPERYACHT DIGEST |
September 2018
Heraclitus proposed a different approach: in the universe we find opposites that apparently seem not to live in harmony between them, but actually they coexist - unity and multiplicity, love and hate, peace and war, calm and movement. Harmony can not be generated by simply denying the existence of one of the two, but letting them live together in their continuing natural tension. Harmony is not absense but a balance of coexisting contrasts. 62
Coming back to our days, in the fashion world, symmetry means chastity while seductive beauty is movement of the shapes. Shifting the balance allows to get different proportions, play with lengths and contrasts, surprise with the unexpected. Those who express favour for asymmetry do not show a lack of an harmonious system, or a feeling of disquiet, bore for order and regularity. But rather they experiment, innovate, dare and discover.
Asymmetry is the key to discover new balances. It is authenticity of character, awareness of your own limits. And desire to overcome them with an healthy dose of anxiety. 63

In an asymmetric layout, what I see, admire, breathe and live, is a double experience because the distance from the sea is not the same on both sides. On one side, I can live the contact with the sea in an exterior area (balcony), I can go out and breathe the fresh air; on the other side the contact with the sea is closer thanks to the wide floor-to-ceiling window.

f he was an entry in encyclopedias, the description would sound like this "With Sergio Cutolo the world of yachting has had the first model of hybrid boat. His Columbus 40 Sport Hybrid has been the first boat certified by Rina as Hybrid Class". It was the year 2014 when this primacy characterized his career. Since it was established in 1995, his naval engineering and architecture studio, Hydro Tec, has designed almost 100 boats. He is one of the best renown names of the Made in Italy yachting, close to reaching again another primacy. The 80m megayacht currently under construction at Columbus Yachts - whose delivery date is scheduled in summer 2019, is today the largest boat ever built in Italy completely designed by an external studio, from the naval engineering to the architecture and exteriors. This solid, reputable backgroud allows the firm and to the Cutolo's hand to take full possession of his worktable and to draw with awareness and maturity a forward-looking concept of 100 meters in lenght, named Crossbow.

AUTOMOTIVE INSPIRATIONS The holistic approach by Hydro Tec can be found in the way they can provide the client a 360-degree service, from the design of the very first sketch to the final layout of the exteriors, from the naval engineering to the naval architecture. But it is also enclosed in the creation of single projects, such as the last one unveiled, that seems to be contaminated by the automotive and the architectural world.
During our visit at the Hydro Tec studio in Ovada, recently moved from Varazze, Sergio Cutolo has shown us the last in the line of their projects. Named Crossbow the project has a unique design that is hard not to notice. It clearly draws inspiration from the automotive, absorbing those typical aggressive lines of car design. The sleek and sporty lines can be immediately detected along the whole profile. The yacht's design aims to give the impression of a large continuous glass through a curved windscreen, which reminds to the line of iconic cars such as the Jaguar E-Type. But, as said, there are more elements borrowed from the automotive: the lateral profile shows in three points some specific references: the spoiler at bridge deck, the elaborated structure of the glass at owner's deck (rear) and the wavy line of the central decks that in their final parts, towards the aft, nostalgically remind the line of the picturesque Duesenberg cars.

ARCHITECTURAL HERITAGE Looking at the design, you can discover its many details and how much it is embellished through sophisticated elements. "It is peculiarly drawn with a sort of maniacal obsession for details", explains Sergio. "We can dare such elaborated designs because we are perfectly aware of the whole structure - external and internal - and especially, we know how the architecture will impact in the interiors, what the engineering will require in terms of space in order to performe at its best. In this respect, we can quote the complex works by Santiago Calatrava, as an example of integration of architectural design and structural engineering. Only a deep knowledge of the materials allows you to play with shapes and structures in a perfect dialogue between architecture and engineering". In Crossbow the design is very much elaborated but the repetitive lines are simple and dynamic at the same time so to give the structure the right rythm and lightness.

THE CONCEPT
The exterior deck areas have been designed with speed in mind, keeping the fixed furniture light and well protected from the wind, with the bow transforming at anchor into an expansive entertaining and sun bathing area.
Crossbow is a unique concept for a 100-meter superyacht, based on an aluminium hull and superstructure. The sleek design has a beam of just 12.5 metres — more than a metre less compared to the average in this size bracket. What’s more, the draught has been kept to just 3.5 metres to ensure Crossbow can reach cruising grounds that would normally be off-limits for such large yachts.
Crossbow has also been designed to remove the reliance of a support vessel for extra toys and tenders. "We have integrated an opening heli-hangar on the foredeck as well as 2 x 9.5mt custom tenders and toys in the aft garage located in front of the 135m2 beach club".
Designed around the idea of high performances and efficiency, this all aluminium vessel is fast and light, with a sleek sporty aesthetic. "The large curved windscreen, covering two decks, is the most unconventional aspect of this design. With the location of the superyacht wheelhouse being moved to the uppermost deck, leaving room for a doubleheight forward-facing atrium on the main deck".
SUPERYACHT DIGEST |

The arrow-like design is also reflected in the estimated performance figures, reaching a top speed of 25 knots with a pair of MTU 16V 4000 M93L engines. Accommodation is for up to 16 guests split between eight double cabins, while the lower deck crew area allows for a staff of up to 32 people.

THE FAST AND SILENT GIANT WAS CRUISING THE SEVEN SEAS, WHEN... "When we conceived Crossbow, we had in mind a kind of boat of high-technology and top performance". Crossbow is a 100-metre yacht project able to cruise at 30knot with hybrid propulsion. The image is that of a sleek giant with aggressive character cruising the seas in perfect silent and full comfort. "We transferred the high-technology-oriented philosophy of the automotive to the yacht design on a large boat, without sacrificing the spaces and the liveability".
As a bow that you draw to charge the energy needed for the largest shooting range, so appears Crossbow, a project of 100meters in lenght shot at 30 knots.

78
As a naval engineering and architecture studio, Hydro Tec can never disregard the purpose each boat is bought for. "We never design projects without asking the client what kind of use he will make of his boat. It is the first question we ask what do you want to do with your boat? This is the starting point, then, together with the client we develop the project". "Some years ago yachting was simply a lifestyle. The client, the owner, usually reflected the spirit of the boat. Living on board included wearing in a very precise way according to the yachting style - or even spending your holidays following a specific protocol. Today, owners are free to choose their style, because the boat, from being lifestyle, has become a personal experience."
With these words, Sergio Cutolo explains why today the boat has to reflect more than ever the owners' needs and requests - no longer the contrary - , which for engineers, architects and designers means being as flexible and open mind as possible.
"Crossbow is a beautiful project, aesthetically speaking. But its main feature is in the high-technology with which it is designed. Our goals was to create a large boat with an attractive design - fast, silent, performing - with the best hydrodynamic system. Crossbow in one word!"

RN reaches again the highest levels of mastery of shipbuilding with its latest expression of design, named Latona. The new 50-metre superyacht will be presented as world première at the Monaco Yacht Show 2018.
Delivered in May this year, this latest masterpiece has been custom-built to meet the wishes of a highly selective and determined owner. Drawing inspiration from the Superconero of the 1960s, Latona marks the success of a new joint project between CRN and Zuccon International Project. This new yacht’s technical solutions and the slender lines of the hull have been developed by CRN’s Engineering Department, while the exterior lines were pencilled by the Romebased design firm Zuccon, who, together with the Shipyard’s Interiors&Design Department also took care of both interiors and exteriors. With four decks and an underdeck, Latona stands out for her classical, timeliness profile that further enhances the style and elegance of outdoor areas. The streamlined bow and the spacious interior and exterior volumes include some breathtaking areas almost "hanging" over the sea, which lets Latona shine in all her endless beauty.
Designed jointly with the customer, this megayacht has been forged and built to meet her owner’s request for the utmost customisation, in an effort to achieve pure uniqueness – also in terms of colours and tones, especially the hull, characterized by a stylish shade of turquoise whose intensity varies depending on the sea and the waters in which the yacht is cruising. Onboard Latona, guests will find numerous outdoor areas, from the wide Mediterranean-style sundeck to the lounge area at bow. The outdoor living areas and the al fresco dining area located aft to the magnificent terraces overlooking the sea, all the way to the exclusive tender bay obtained on the lower deck.
Latona is a peaceful, luxurious haven, with innovative solutions especially in the lower deck aft area. The latter has been turned into a large, exclusive open-air living area integrated with the beach club – over 70 square meters allowing space to enjoy moments of pure celebration, indoor and outdoor, relax in the Turkish bath decorated with a custom mosaic, work out in the fitness area, lie down in the solarium, but also store all the water toys available for all guests. Children can also have fun in the sea-water indoor pool - also featuring a precious blue and turquoise mosaic that becomes a garage for the tender during navigation. 85

The Mediterranean-style sundeck is made up of three different areas, ideally-separated but physically-uninterrupted to become one single open space: dining area, sunbathing area with a Jacuzzi and solarium. The inflatable slide, one of the family’s favourite toys, is deployed on one side towards the stern, while the central area, conceived to enjoy the pleasure of sharing meals with the family’s dear ones, also features a pleasant water mist system installed in the ceiling to cool this area when needed. Latona is a yacht endowed with a strong personality, capable of harmoniously combining the elegant style of her exterior lines with highly functional outdoor and indoor areas as well as interiors boasting a truly distinctive design. And it is just in the interiors that the skilful, refined craftsmanship of the shipyard and its suppliers has reached its peak, thanks to a painstaking study of the Central European style from the 1920s.
This mood now pervades all interiors, starting from the floors, which are enriched by unique decorations chosen by the owner, like the sinuous dark brown embroidery - a leitmotiv that is found across all decks. Depending on the areas of the yacht, this elegant pattern unravels along the floors (both marble and carpeted ones) as well as on the curved handrail of the internal staircase, creating a pleasant contrast with the light-shade wood panelling on the walls.
Sinuous lines are, indeed, like a fil rouge accompanying guests in all areas of the yacht. Furniture too is characterised by soft, rounded shapes that stylishly harmonise with handcrafted, sophisticated décor elements - from the lacquered doors decorated by graceful, "waving" bass-reliefs to the custom-made lamps in Murano glass with flower and leaf patterns drawing inspiration from nature, in perfect Liberty style.
The elegant interiors are further enriched by oak-wood wall panelling with silver pickle finish. Every wood panel is a unique piece, created with unparalleled craftsmanship and decorated with fabrics selected individually by the owner and wooden flower patterns that are also found in the ceilingmounted spotlights of the master stateroom.
Latona can comfortably host up to 10 guests in five cabins characterised by extremely refined details: the master cabin, two VIP cabins and two double cabins, plus accommodation for 9 crew members, including the captain.

The cockpit on the main deck features large, comfortable living areas in the light blue and turquoise colour shades found in all outdoor decorations and a wide swimming pool with a mosaic that delightfully combines turquoise shades and golden details.
Inside, Latona elegantly combines precious materials, sinuous pieces of furniture and very refined hand-made decorations. All main deck areas are characterised by carved wood panels with fabric inserts and mirrors, dark oak-wood and elegant marbles. The main deck salon includes a large dining room furnished with a stylish round table in walnut wood with silver decorations and chairs embellished by a floral pattern that will add an exclusive touch to equally exclusive gala dinners. The ceiling above this area has mirrors and wooden carvings that accurately reproduce the Emperor Dark embroidery decorating the floor. The ceiling-high glazing allows the opening of the dining area on three sides, to dine al fresco and enjoy the breathtaking view from the two sided terraces.
Amidship, along the corridor, the 1920s Parisian atmosphere embraces and enchants guests, thanks to the Liberty decorations on the doors and the uninterrupted wood panels decorated with floral patterns that separate the main salon from the lobby and the owner’s apartment. In particular, the spiral staircase in front of the lift, which connects the three guest decks internally, is fitted with a central backlit column in wood lined with silver leaf. Slightly further, towards the bow, is the exclusive full-beam owner’s apartment, characterised by a very original layout. The cabin opens up to a living room furnished with a neutral-shade rounded sofa, a very exclusive and private area for the owner couple. A distinctive element in this area is the fumoir, a private balcony that can also be enjoyed while cruising.
The master stateroom impresses for the countless hand-made details, such as the bed headboard in dark walnut wood and light-blue velvet, the soft and sinuous lines of the furniture, the white wool and silk carpeting decorated with the dark brown embroidery that runs across the entire yacht, and the elegant appliques in blown glass.
The ceiling too is a true masterpiece of the skilful craftsmen that worked on it, with wooden five-petal flowers forming a crown around the spotlights. On the right-hand side of the suite is a spacious, exclusive private terrace offering a magnificent view of the sea. 91

Liberty style
devoted to music
Reaching the upper deck, guests are welcomed into a large salon devoted to music. Liberty style pervades this area too, as shown by the special custom-made sofa shaped as a lyre, a musical instrument typical of the 1920s, and by the decoration of the white carpet lying at its feet. Another eyecatcher in this room is the elegant, white-lacquered grand piano.
All interiors are pervaded by bleached oakwood, with alternating matte and polished sections, and marble. The embroidered ceiling, the curved engravings in the wall wood panels, the precious curtains, and the Lalique lamps contribute to making this area truly unique. Thanks to the wide side windows and the glazed surfaces opening up to 120°, the music salon is very bright and offers breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape.
The upper deck lobby is embellished by Central Europeanstyle details and is covered by a skylight that lets in plenty of light directly from the sundeck. Walking further towards the bow, the Captain’s cabin and office can be reached, followed by the navigation bridge, built in the same dark brown shade as Latona’s recurrent embroidery motif.
The living area and the solarium located in the forward part of the yacht are very large and comfortable. Here, all the furniture is in navy with furnishings in a lovely palette of light blue shades. This area also features the concealed garage for the rescue boat - located under a huge sun pad with cushions, a roll-out awning - and two jet skis.
Outdoor, guests can find the al fresco dining area, featuring a fully-customized teak table in Liberty style, a bar, and a lovely open-air tea room, the real jewel on this deck. Two large sun pads complete this area, while the inflatable climbing wall will undoubtedly offer unforgettable and exciting adventures.

fter having left the mark with the design of some of the most beautiful megayachts, such as Luna, Siren, Saphire and several other over 200 feet, the "Germany way" of Frank Neubelt finds another way to step onboard, leaving his German imprint made up of excellence and quality. His pen creates the exterior and interior design of this new project, to which the German studio has dedicated more than two years in research and analysis. YCLUB is an innovating, unprecedented superyacht concept created with the target of new business opportunites for the market. YCLUB is born from the ingenious mind of Frank Neubelt and is technically created by the design hub he has recently launched internationally, GERMAN YACHT COUTURE.
The actual booming luxury charter market in the 80150m segment, still requires more strategies. Frank looks at the future generations of wealthy people, young and relatively young, without limits of frontiers. The mature western world is ready and eager to live new different luxury experiences, but at the same time, the Far-East and Asia are also very active and reactive to new proposals and ideas to spend their time on a yacht with their friends, preferebly for a short stay of some few days, without spending a huge amount of money. YCLUB meets these new requests. This new floating resort is well recognized by high sense luxury resort groups, taking care of the further development of the project and marketing activities under the management of the German YCLUB100 Group. YCLUB is designed to offer all of its guests a stay of a couple of days or one week, with all the comfort of a private suite, the atmosphere and qualified special services of a high-class hotel collection, preserving 7-star luxury social equality. There will be a fleet of four yachliners managed in cooperation with a very exclusive 7-star hotel collection group. Y-Club 100 is the 328ft vessel that will serve as the testbed. Y-Club 100 will carry 36 guests and 52 crew. The exterior decks include a sundeck and helipad, with all of the suites boasting private balconies and separate dressing rooms.
The Y-Club 100 Group has already defined a selection of partners with which to start the engine of Y-Club 100 and leave for the maiden voyage. First guests will be invited next year to jointly book their vacation for the season 2021. The project will be managed and internationally promoted by an exclusive 7* hotel collection with consolidated background in high class services. YCLUB 100 will cruise in the Mediterranean, in the Caribbean and Asia, to explore the best yachting destinations, but it will be also available for private business and gala events organized around the "OceanLifestyle" theme. The plan includes the best selection of events and attractions such as the yachting rendez-vous during the Monaco-F1, the film festivals in Cannes and Venice and collateral eclusive occasions such as the Biennale in Venice and Art Basel Miami. Guests will dive into an accurate luxury yachting experience in terms of design, services and comfort. YCLUB 100 is powered by the innovative super silent Rolls-Royce propulsion system. The exterior decks measure approx. 753 sqm and are proposed with the aim to provide the feeling of living in a luxury apartment or villa rather than on board a yacht. The bow deck has direct access to the forward areas where to enjoy the sun and panoramic views wrapped in the comfort of the outdoor lounges.
The aft main deck hosts a main infinity swimming pool (8x4) with a large sun deck area and beach club for convivial moments. The deck is also designed with a more formal “al fresco dining area. The upper decks are furnished with two large Jacuzzi and relaxing lounge areas.

ORDERS of
VINCENZO DE COTIIS ALBERTO MANCINI
During the Milan Design Week, in which Azimut Yachts participated with its latest generation boat, Azimut S7, the brand has presented its two new exclusive collaborations with Alberto Mancini (AM Yacht Design) and Vincenzo De Cotiis Architects, in search of a new and more contemporary stylistic language on board. The attitude to continuous renewal and the ability to OVERCOME the customs, inherent in the DNA of the brand and expressed in many of the innovations introduced in the sector, have in fact become profitable collaborations with designers and architects coming from NON-NAUTICAL experiences and yet close by codes and styles in the Azimut Yachts world.
This is the main theme of the presentation that took place on Wednesday 18 April at the Teatro dell'Arte in Milan, during which Giovanna Vitelli briefly reviewed the almost fifty-year history of the brand: from breaking traditional rules to the desire and consisting in changing the order of things, from contaminating with UNEXPECTED elements to being the first to do something DISRUPTIVE.
Giovanna Vitelli underlined how all this happened without losing sight of the unavoidable objective that the boat continues to remain a boat, not an apartment or a hotel, with its perfect balance in relation to the surrounding environment, without distorting its lifestyle. For this reason Azimut Yachts has chosen to perform in a relationship of continuous exchange between the shipyard and its designers, so that the know-how of the marine object is founded with the most appropriate and innovative style suitable for declining it. In this context the shipyard announced the new and exclusive collaborations with two famous and talented designers, Alberto Mancini and Vincenzo De Cotiis. Alberto Mancini is the author of the exterior of the Azimut S10, the new flagship of the S Collection, while Vincenzo De Cotiis Architects has been entrusted with the interiors of the Magellano 25 meters, from the Azimut Grande Collection. Both yachts are expected for 2019, the year in which Azimut Yacht will celebrate its 50th anniversary.

VINCENZO DE COTIIS Architect and Designer, known and appreciated all over the world, Vincenzo De Cotiis enters for the firt time the nautical sector, designing the interiors of the new Grande Magellano. For his first collaboration with Azimut Yachts, Vincenzo De Cotiis has chosen to express at best the characteristic features of his stylistic figure: open spaces, fluid and airy, material contrasts and an unusual and advanced expressive language.
Among the surprise elements, there is the ornamental use of glass fiber, which De Cotiis - who is a passionate about new materials, often marked by time and wear - has used for years to create objects with organic shapes and material surfaces. For the first time the fiberglass is ennobled and assumes a nonstructural but purely decorative function. With the aim of tracing a new aesthetic dimension without distorting the functional characteristics of the entire range, De Cotiis has done a skillful job that, having passed the simple furnishing process, has become an articulated architectural project capable of combining aesthetic and stylistic research with the focus on perfect environments for life on-board.
Vincenzo De Cotiis Architects has worked hard on the perception of the depth of spaces, creating environments without excessive separations, both to allow a continuous visual contact with the sea, and to propose a wider scope than the typical size of a boat.
With this same purpose, fluid shapes characterize even the furnishings and much attention has been given to create a sense of continuity. In the living room, the arrangements of the dining table is longitudinal and its irregular shape evokes a jagged shoreline. The various forms of the geometry are irregular and the different games of the lines in the furniture and sofas are designed to create different depths. The staircase is dematerialized through the sheeting of the mirror and, once again, results in a fluid and uninterrupted environment, where the protagonists are the light and the sea. The green upholstery is the only element that adds color in contradiction to the white coverings. The collaboration between Azimut Yachts and Vincenzo De Cotiis Architects marks an important new chapter in the evolution of design on board, giving life to a very original expressive refined language, destined to become a new tendency.

ALBERTO MANCINI Azimut S10, the new S Collection flagship, is the result of collaboration with designer Alberto Mancini, working for the first time with the Italian shipyard. The project shows a sporty line with impeccable class and personality of automotive design. Highly regarded for his purist approach, Mancini habitually draws inspiration from the aerospace and automotive worlds, which he knows very well because of his training as car designer.
The design philosophy behind the S10 is tied to the concept of total onboard liveability, based on three fundamental images. The first image is that of a big, classically-styled megasailer, on which the slightly lowered cockpit amidships represents the fulcrum of social interaction, intended as the perfect refuge for relaxing and sheltering from the sun. The second is that of a refined modern villa on the sea, with multi-level terraces leading gradually down to the water: the same approach underpins the design of the S10, on which a flush deck left completely free represents an unprecedented solution, offering a raised vantage point over the sea.
The terrace is a central element of the S10, connecting with the liveability and social interaction of villas and megasailers. The stern railing is a glazed surface designed to be almost invisible, establishing discrete and elegant contact between two settings on two different levels. Access to the full-beam beach club at water level is down hidden steps, in an innovative solution that leaves the transom with even cleaner lines.
The sporty feel of this model is expressed by the shapes used and the choice of materials. The carbon that began as a technical decision is now a style feature too: with its powerful black fiber in full view, it defines the edges of side fins that tilt towards the bow, conveying an intense sensation of dynamism. The car design is the third source of stylistic inspiration. Underpinning this idea was a meticulous study of how the sunlight and its reflections play off the water onto the yacht’s surfaces and sections, sculpting and emphasising its beautiful lines. With this project, Azimut Yachts charts a new course: a boat with sports features but that also has a fly deck and the onboard spaces typical of a big motoryacht.

The design of this large and unique sportsyacht shows a well balanced and pure exterior, with sleek, strong lines and a slender silhouette. Continuous window surfaces, typical of Gobbi’s designs, characterize its profile and ensure breathtaking panoramic views from all main interior areas. It’s worth to mention an exclusive feature of the master suite, that is a panoramic balcony (on both sides of the owner’s private lounge) with wide floor-toceiling windows for a full height overlook of the sea also from inside the suite.

AMER YACHTS IN

Progetto: GREAT GLAMER Studenti: Claudia Capra, Francesco Cocivera, Gregory Mystkowski, Vittoria Maria Scarpa Vista dall’alto esterno yacht prospettiva da poppa
THIS YEAR SOME STUDENTS OF THE ISTITUTO EUROPEO DI DESIGN (MILAN) HAVE HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO DEVELOP A PROJECT FOR THE ITALIAN YARD PERMARE | AMER YACHTS. THE FIRM REQUESTED TO DESIGN A SOLUTION FOR A 120-FEET MOTOR-YACHT WITH ORIGINAL FUNCTIONAL SOLUTIONS, RESPECTING THE YACHT OWNER'S PERSONALITY AND THE YARD'S PHILOSOPHY, WITHOUT FORGETTING THE EMOTIONAL ASPECT.
T
he project started with the analysis of the yard's values: the use of valuable materials, the integration of new technologies aimed at reaching the best performances, the effort of keeping high the level of the Made in Italy product and the attention for the client's needs. The fil rouge of the entire production of Permare group is represented by two main key-points: customization and environmental sustainability. To develop the project, the students took into consideration the motoryacht Amer Cento, the model that best represents the yard and its style. The exteriors have been developed around 4 main
119
key-characteristics of the Amer Cento: a sporty character, windows crossed by a pillar; pillars going through two decks, making a curved line; the aft beach area.
The design of the interiors plays a strategic role and has been interpreted as a microcosm able to interfere with the physicality of the space, with the architectural relationships between space and atmosphere and with the movement of the boat. The yard gave two options for the interiors: an opulent style, rich, almost baroque, or a modern environment made up of clean lines, light and warm tones for a more contemporary atmosphere.

Llady Yacht Owner Born in Baltimore from a rich family running an important fishing business, she grew up wrapped by the nautical atmospheres, which made her soon an experienced yachtswoman. A 45-years-old fashion lady, who now lives in the Upper East Side in Manhattan and spends most of her free time on board her boat. This would be her second experience with an Amer Yachts. She is very satisfied of her boat but would like a larger one, customized and more in line with her style, her social position (wealth) and her passion for excesses and flamboyant materials.
The boat will be moored in the port of Nassau at the Bahamas and will have to be designed to welcome many people aboard, since the owner loves parties and convivial occasions also for business reasons. At the same time she needs privacy, tranquility and relax. The boat shall be also suitable for the charter activity. In this project the style proposed is a 1920s design with clean, winding lines.
The code behind this design is given by warm and rich nuances combined with lighter and more delicate tones, by clean lines mixed up with more defined shapes, in search of a kind of elegance that is not afraid to dare.

Great Glamer The yacht owner shows a great passion for highly sought-after things, as also her car demonstrates, a limited edition of the Bentley Continental GT V8 S Convertible. Custom made, of course. In her daily routine, her stylistic choices, from her fashion accessories to the home interiors, can be summed up in one word "Glam Decò". A style that combines Glamour, that unique, attractive quality that makes a person shine more than the others. The Decò style is syntetic but also
volumetric, streamlined, pompous and opulent. From the combination of these two aspects, we get a language made up of elegance, taste, shapes, charm, seduction, enchantment, extravagance. Perfectly suitable for an eclectic lifestyle, mundanity-oriented and international. The analysys of the yacht owner's profile allowed to develop the project around three main aspects: exclusivity, extravagance, custom-made uniqueness. In terms of materials, the choice is for exclusive materials able to flaunt her wealth and for custom-made products that allow the distinctiveness of her style.

the yacht is characterized by three decks whose aft lines move the centre of gravity towards bow. The three decks - main deck, fly deck and lower deck - are connected by a central staircase that internally is designed to create one only fil rouge. On the main deck, the aft cockpit, located above the floodable garage and beach area, is reserved for more informal dinners. The main salon and the dining area are separated by a brass panel strongly inspired by the geometry of the Art Decò, while the bar lounge is adorned by an elegant spiral crystal staircase.
Textiles, curtains and upholstery are chosen from the Rubelli collections.
On the fly deck, the second aft cockpit will welcome more private parties, formal dinners and moments of pure pleasure and relax in the cozy area equipped with a large jacuzzi. The sunbathing area located at bow allows to enjoy a great view of the Carribean coast line. The yacht will be characterized by few materials but truly refined and sophisticated, in line with the Art DecĂł rules.
In the interior spaces the walls are lacquered white, creating a nice contrast with the Mahogany flooring. The furniture is covered by grey leather with elegant handles in Calacatta Gold marble. The exteriors are covered by natural teak.
The philosophy of the contrasts is kept also in the exterior profile where the white fiberglass superstructure creats a sharp contrast with the dark hull in steel and fiberglass.

Conceived in exclusive for Videoworks by ItWorks, the socalled ITWmode App allows the management of every service from every device: MyConcierge (to get a five star service at home or aboard the yacht), MyPhotovoltaic (to check 127
energy consumption and saving), MyScreen (to watch streaming videos even simultaneously on more devices), MyAppliances (to have a direct connection between the smart appliance, such as washing machine, oven, drying machine, dish washer...). For those more lucky who will spend their holidays aboard their yacht, they will be able to rely on MyInfo, MyCrew and MyConnections.
One of the most recent and innovative solutions developed by the company, regards the world of SOUND. Thanks to the external speakers exclusively made for Videoworks by ASK, part of the JVC Kenwood Group, Videoworks is able to offer very high performances in terms of sound quality. Woofers and tweeters are extremely thin, water resistant, customizable in the color, easy and safe in terms of installation, and after so many implementations on important projects, Videoworks is able to also guarantee a highly aesthetic service for last-generation products. The internal sound is provided through super thin speakers, hideable in walls or ceilings and coverable with any material such as leather, silk, alcantara... In the last couple of years, Videoworks has impressed the world of design - architectural and yachting - with all of its creations of integrated systems, let's call them even "sensorial performances".

SPECIAL PROJECTS FOR THE WORLD OF FASHION The Bologna based foundation, Fashion Research Italy (FRI), brainchild of Alberto Masotti (ex-owner of La Perla Group), is the new hub for fashion history, education and innovation. The foundation’s objective is to use modern technologies to valorize styling’s legacy and history, so important for Italian design, and project them into the future.
Last year, for this Foundation, Videoworks and Samsung worked together to create an installation made up of more than 21,000 LED’s and a multimedia catwalk. The multimedia catwalk is made up of eight 85” Samsung OH85F monitors positioned to greet visitors on their way in and let them plunge into the prospective of a virtual catwalk. The installation created by Videoworks, in addition to the eight exterior grade monitors, also includes a 1,000 watt sound system. The control room for the multimedia catwalk, the nerve center of the entire structure, is also connected to the “Icona di Donna” installation, another important visual attraction, created by Senso Immersive Experience from Padua.
The LED installation recreates a feminine silhouette out of 21,120 LED’s, placed inside 5,300 spheres, that come alive with the music and create graphic motives, inspired by some of the 30,000 drawings on paper and fabric from the Renzo Brandone collection, stored in FRI’s controlled environment vaults. The “Icona di Donna”, the multimedia catwalk and all the remaining areas can also be controlled by tablets using the Videoworks App. During events and fashion shows, the tablets can be used by hostesses and welcome personnel.
The female silhouette LED statue, a skin of light and technology, celebrates the woman, muse and demiurge of the fashion system. The icon expresses and humanizes the value of craftsmanship combined with that of the latest technologies. The headquarters of the Fashion Research Italy Foundation, with its new architectural structure is configured as a virtuous example of redevelopment of the industrial suburbs of Bologna. Founded in 2015 in the heart of the Fashion Valley, FRI is a non-profit organization founded by the cav. Alberto Masotti – formerly the patron of the La Perla fashion group – aimed at creating an educational, exhibition and archive center dedicated to training, innovation and enhancement of the heritage of a key sector of the Italian economic-productive system: fashion.

LIGHTING & SOUND LIGHT DESIGN & ENGINEERING The implementation of light is getting more and more pivotal in our life. Creating atmospheres and scenarios, controlling everything via touch panel, is an incredible experience Videoworks can deliver today to its clients. Through its own Light Engineering Department, Videoworks gives support to architects and technicians to create the desired athmosferes and scenarios.
Nowadays, the main focus for owners and guests on any superyacht is in the audiovisual and domotic systems. It is now possible to watch a football match in 4K high definition, listen to the purest sound, surf the internet at high speed, or simply control air conditioning, lighting and blinds easily and reliably. In short, these systems are not extras, but must-have services. Videoworks cooperates with architects and designers to choose lights and optics, light sources, 3D calculations and simulations, rendering, CAD positioning, circuits details, lighting wiring schemes and wires technical dimensioning.
SOUND QUALITY & SOUND MASKING
High-end entertainment systems are part and parcel of the superyacht experience and owners demand only the very best audio-visual quality. With this in mind, Videoworks has integrated into its onboard systems new solutions by James Loudspeaker, a California-based leader in loud-speakers for outdoor/marine applications that are constructed out of air-craft grade aluminium for strength, sonic performance, and durability.
(opposite page) M/Y Kalliente, the 28m yacht launched last year by Dominator Yachts, is one of the most interesting examples - among Videoworks' recent projects - of integrated systems. Videoworks was involved to complement Dominator’s high-quality construction standards by specifying and installing the yacht’s state-of-the-art home entertainment, automation and IT systems.
The Sound Masking is the latest generation phenomenon that allows the human ear to focus on the sound it likes the most only. Sound Masking, which can also be activated from a smart watch, delivers the feeling of being surrounded by a real sound bubble, while being isolated from background noises and unwanted sounds. Masking operates by covering up or masking unwanted sounds, similar to oneway windows block the ability of a person to see beyond the glass, or a perfume that covers up other odors. Videoworks studies and analyzes the sound within different environments in order to ensure its clients the best sound perception ever, whether it is a live performance, a party with some friends, a conference or a relaxing moment with your favourite music.

CYBER SECURITY KEEPING CYBER CRIME UNDER CONTROL Thanks to the increasing amount of digital technology on board superyachts, it is now easier than ever for owners, guests and crews to stay connected anywhere and anytime. But the same technology exposes yacht systems and their passengers to the growing threat of cyber-related crime. Videoworks is working with trusted partners and developing security solutions to stay ahead of the curve. With over 25 years of experience as IT integrators in the yachting sector, Videoworks is ideally placed to analyse, define and specify bespoke cyber security solutions into new build and refit projects. Most onboard systems are interconnected and managed by VLAN, often via the same Internet entry/exit point. This means all traffic goes through the same portal, so a hacker gaining access via a malicious email is a risk for the entire network, from AV systems through to alarms, air conditioning, engine management, security doors, navigation and monitoring systems.
Protecting onboard systems and personal data involves more than just installing a firewall and antivirus, or occasional software updates and patches. Kerio Control (by Videoworks) is an all-in-one threat and connection manager able to protect the yacht’s server via an Intrusion Prevention System (IPS) that monitors both entering and exiting net communications. In addition to next-generation firewall capabilities, the device offers Load Balancing to guarantee high-speed transmission for the most important traffic types, and optimal Internet connections by distributing traffic across multiple links. A Web Filter further allows administrators to deny or limit access to applications, websites and Internet services, protecting users and infrastructures by preventing visits to known malicious sites, or those engaged in phishing and identify theft. There is no fail-safe, single protection against a determined cyberattack. Videoworks has already integrated Kerio Control into the rack systems of a huge superyachts lineup (Benetti, Baglietto, Perini Navi, Ferretti, Admiral and CCN, among others). Combined with Cisco’s “high network” devices, such as Aironet Access Points, Catalyst Switches, 4000 series routers and next-generation ASA Fire POWER firewalls, it provides robust, integrated threat defense and security management before, during and after a security breach.

In a controlled experiment in 2013, students from the University of Texas were able to “spoof the GPS signals of a superyacht and send the vessel veering off course without rousing any suspicions whatsoever. In a different trial in 2017, a cybercrime specialist working for a mobile device company hacked into another yacht's WiFi connection and gained control of vital functions, including the navigation system and onboard CCTV. But the safety of the vessel is not the only issue. Many yacht owners conduct private and professional business while on board. This makes their personal data such as e-mail addresses, photos, videos or even bank account details, vulnerable to the threats of malware and phishing. As almost everybody on board uses the Internet connection, the risk could come from an unsuspecting crew member downloading a virus that selfinstalls and spies on passwords, or even hijacks the smart phones and computers using the network.

At the shipyard in RENDSBURG, which concentrates on building yachts from 60 up to 110 metres, several yachts are currently under construction. One of the yachts under construction is Project TIS, a quintessential 111 m yacht, scheduled for delivery in winter 2018, with exterior and interior design by Winch Design.
In the district of BREMEN there are three shipyards located on both sides of the river Weser. On the north side of the river, at the facility known as Lürssen-Aumund, there is a large graving dock, where yachts of up to 170 metres can be built. Adjacent to that lies a floating dry dock with a length of 220 metres which allowing even larger yachts to be built and to properly look after its rapidly expanding fleet.

On the south side of the river, the facility known as LürssenLemwerder, is Lürssen’s main facility. At the moment Lürssen there is another 100 +m yacht under construction and the blocks are coming together in the building shed.
At the pier there is currently Al Lusail, which has been delivered in 2017, returned home for some guarantee works.
The third yard is down river of the first two and is located in BERN, where pre assembly of steel blocks takes place.

ASK FOR THE MOON FOR YOU NEXT CHARTER EXPERIENCE
ALL PHOTOS ARE COURTESY OF FEADSHIP
A RARE EDITION TO THE CHARTER MARKET, M/Y JOY IS A MASTERFUL COLLABORATION OF TWO YACHTING POWERHOUSES: BANNENBERG AND ROWELL FOR HER EXQUISITE EXTERIOR LINES AND DUTCH PEDIGREE YARD FEADSHIP.
Furthermore, Joy is a further example of many decades of craftsmanship combined with a future-oriented passion for excellence. Benchmark for artistry and the use of technology, Joy is one of highest expressions of quality, safety and comfort for which Feadship is so well renowned.
/Y Joy is one of the most beautiful chapters in the history of Feadship's creations, pure custom projects literally started with a blank page. Joy is a phenomenal example of this approach in action as she was created for a client completely new to the industry, who had never owned a superyacht before. His desire was for each area to have its own unique identity on board a yacht with an unprecedented amount of outdoor space for a 70-metre vessel. Built in 2016, this 70m yacht is available for charter. Joy is the first Feadship to have an exterior design by Bannenberg & Rowell since the legendary Jon Bannenberg passed away in 2002.
Covering five decks, her expansive outdoor space goes unrivalled and adds to her appeal as a luxury charter yacht. Beautiful concave lines and the artistic use of glass creates perfect harmony between the exterior and interior making her an ideal yacht for summertime cruising. Specifically, pockets of air conditioned indoor/ outdoor zones known as 'winter gardens' were created to further enhance this feeling of space.

Studio Indigo was responsible for her vibrant interior that includes an extremely flexible cabin layout sure to sleep 12 guests comfortably. With eight cabins, an elevator servicing three of the five decks plus an array of facilities dedicated to wellness (a large gym, spa room and on board masseuse), Joy has quickly established herself as a popular yacht on the charter scene.
Joy’s truly innovative holistic design includes this centrepiece cantilevered wooden spiral staircase, which wraps around a glass elevator that connects each deck. The stairs act a reference point and the knuckle of the interior layout, giving guests a sense of orientation no matter which deck they are on. A beautiful sculptural piece of art work in silver and gold leaf frames this edifice. It is a fine example of how cohesive architectural detailing ties the yacht together within a structure which also allows for a sense of individuality between the spaces via the use of over 250 finishes and materials. The main deck finds room for three guest staterooms, including a VIP. Studio Indigo has used bold colours and distinctive pieces of furniture, cushion and artwork to meticulously plan every detail. With each suite being quite different to the next, each guest is made to feel special by giving these spaces a sense of identity. The interior spaces on the main, bridge and owner decks can be instantly extended by opening up the giant glass doors aft. These air conditioned outdoor-in zones form the main transition spaces and genuinely feel like an extension of the interior thanks to the clever use of finishes, materials and styling.
Epitome of comfort and luxury, Joy’s interior feels more like an onshore residence than a superyacht. The hand-woven carpeted pads on the staircase exude that homely feel, something which the owners have made a priority on their own dedicated deck.
The lounge is designed so all guests can spend quality time all together. There are also two guest suites amidships so that close family members have the option to stay on this deck, aft of the master stateroom. The latter is a grandmaster of a space, flooded with light though the full-height wraparound windows and large zeppelin-like dome above the bed. The fabulous views over the expansive foredeck are magnified by glass cut-outs in the bulwarks either side of the stateroom.

The lower deck is a space for fun, rest and play. The use of sea-washed oak in the massage parlour captures the spirit of toned-down relaxation very well. And you can sense that the designers thoroughly enjoyed creating a young-and-free ambience in the bunk room, making it feel very light and spacious for the size and location. Another guest stateroom is adjacent and benefits from the same approach.
Also on the lower deck is a sparkling and bright beach club, accessible either via the bathing platform (shaded by the pivoting transom door) or via bomber doors on the main deck. This speakeasy-style disco space with beanbag chairs features a huge wall-sized television that is also used to screen movies and play computer games. This yacht shows wealth of wonderful outdoor spaces, with distinctive areas created for different activities at every time of the night and day. The generously sized al fresco areas created by Joy’s compact superstructure have been optimised in a way that offers countless choices for dining, play, socialising or simply relaxing and enjoying the vista.
Other striking and extremely well-conceived features in terms of logistics, liveability and functionality include the swivelling transom door and bomber doors on the aft deck.
The yacht features one of the most spectacular airconditioned al fresco dining areas, while the decoration in the winter garden transition zone is breathtaking.
The sun deck is a case in point. There are two bars here, with a builtin barbecue, the other featuring a fridge/ ice maker to facilitate the sundowner experience. The customshaped pool is built in between the legs of the mast with a glass bottom and glass aft sides: it all makes for a magical sight when seen from the bridge deck gym below, which is connected via two sculptured staircases.
Like every Feadship, Joy benefits from the latest thinking and technologies in her wheelhouse and propulsion setup. She also has exceptionally low noise levels thanks to a revolutionary active attenuation system that dispenses with passive dampers to avoid any vibration from the gearboxes. Further engineering expertise was required to meet the client’s desire for a low-volume vessel with excellent seakeeping capabilities and high efficiency levels for a 70-metre yacht. Numerous computational fluid dynamic calculations were performed in order to optimise the hull shape, and the result was fuel consumption that is some 40 percent lower than other yachts of her lenght.
In addition to serving as a large terrace which extends the family deck experience, the elongated foredeck features a basketball/badminton court overseen by shaded seating areas in the companionway.
