STRENGTHEN THE FOUNDATION NOW FOR FUTURE GROWTH

EDITORIAL

Pragat Dvivedi, Founder Editor

Foundation in most of the wood panel and furniture industries means plant design and MACHINERY, goal and ethics led MANPOWER backed up by skills, and the most important is the clarity in choices of choosing suitable and sustainable raw MATERIALs.

The wood panel industry is now going through few structural changes where there is a tremendous need of improvement in daily practices of business owners. The need of 3Ms were never felt so badly before, so far as I have seen during my last two and half decade in this industry. The need of good and sustained supply of MATERIAL is very evident in timber, chemicals and paper segment. The crisis of timber is so scary that there does not seem to be any significant relaxation till early 2025. The supply chain imbalances is pushing the enterprises to create a clear cut procurement and purchase policy and set finished goods prices on that basis. The requirement of good professionals who are committed for growth and carrying ethics along integrity is so much so, that we keep answering entrepreneurs calls every day, just to help/solve this biggest puzzle of growth. Getting efficient MANPOWER and retaining the team along with ensuring that they remain ethical and efficient is getting costlier and trickier day by day. Even if a company establishes very good plant and MACHINE, it is not certain that it will cross over the cruel competition in almost every sector. Writing truly, I feel the biggest challenge for growth is good team led by a visionary leader. Without that, one just can’t sustain the enterprise to next generation. When I look back, I find so many companies, who are joined by next generation but their foundation is actually fragile. Foundation in most of the wood panel and furniture industries means plant design and MACHINERY, goal and ethics led MANPOWER backed up by skills, and the most important is the clarity in choices of choosing suitable and sustainable raw MATERIALs. The foundations are actually considered as financial strength which I feel has important role but without the above 3Ms, it’s totally incomplete. In our wood panel industry, the successful and large enterprises would never have become where they are today. Strengthen the base with 3Ms and clear vision before next generation blame you for not doing things till you are in charge. Also join us in our upcoming conference and exhibition at Pragati Maidan on 2, 3 and 4th September, where you will network and learn more.

THE FATE OF GENUINE IS 710 GRADE PLYWOOD IS BACK

APNI BAAT

Rajiv Parashar, Editor

Now market is reportedly getting lesser supply of Fake IS 710 grade as producers are not willing to offer MR material. If it persist, the prices of MR vs BWR grade ply in the present scenario is becoming near equal.

The Indian plywood Industry suddenly begin to love genuine PF after tightening by the Govt. to curb use of agriculture grade urea for making resins for commercial grade plywood manufacturing. Reports from different plywood manufacturing clusters show an impact of 10-12% on prices of commercial grade ply and hence cost of commercial/MR plywood has inched near BWR grade plywood. Now market is reportedly getting lesser supply of Fake IS 710 grade as producers are not willing to offer MR material. If it persist, the prices of MR vs BWR grade ply in the present scenario is becoming near equal. This is forcing ply producers to increase the supply of its original IS 710 grade plywood or BWP grade plywood that can support 72 hour boiling test. As heard many ply producers have surrendered their IS 710 grade standard because they are dedicatedly manufacturing IS 303 grade but after the recent development, the companies have approached BIS to get IS 710 standard of BWP grade or looking for other options to offer guarantee or warranties, which qualifies the similar standard of Boiling Water Proof plywood. The Fake IS 710 grade has damaged the image of plywood in the market just for greed, and customers are being cheated. The emergence of HD+WR grade MDF is result of such ill-practice in Plywood trade, but the fate of ‘Original BWP grade Plywood’ seems to be turning back, if the industries follow the government rule strictly. This scenario will help to improve the image of plywood among customers, which was discreet due to Fake IS 710. Industry should take this step in a positive way for the benefits of its own brand or plywood as a product. This issue has a ‘Glimpse of Indiawood exhibition’ held in Bangalore for those who missed to visit. The new launches, innovations from different brands have been featured. A short interaction with Mr. Vikas Agarwal, MD, Salasar Laminate Group on his latest expansion in Decorative Laminates manufacturing is worth reading. The coverage of financial reports of some organised brands and their growth in revenue and profit in FY 22, would be interesting to those, who believe or follow their working towards organise route. News reports, new products launch and other happenings in wood panel and decorative industry have also been featured that readers would find them interesting.

PLYWOOD DEMAND REMIAN TO BE SLUGGISH

IykboqM dh ekax esa lqLrh cjdjkj

The Indian market is still not in full swing according to reports coming in from various regions across the country. The retail counters are admitting of slow movement and lack of new work. The pickup in plywood sales are not visible due to the weak buying sentiments reportedly caused by steep inflation, cost of construction activities and lack of labours. The plywood prices that were announced for the increase have not been implemented by many small producers who feel the sales pressure due to slow movement in markets.

NEWS WATCH

The impact of heat this summer has been very disturbing for workers and factories. The workers who went to their natives during early April are returning but at a slow pace. But the worry is approaching marriage seasons that may lead to more workers going to their states.

38

The metropolitan cities are witnessing higher retardancy compared to tier 2- 3 cities find Ply Reporter survey. The tier three cities have been most performing for plywood and laminates during the last 2 months shows the dealer’s opinion gathered during ‘Market Sentiment Survey’. The organised plywood brands are sustaining their sales thanks to various ongoing projects and growing furniture demand in metros. The logistic supply chain and branding exercise is helping the big brands to expand their reach to smaller towns that is the key for addition to their growth. On the contrary Mid-level companies are operating on a regional basis that puts them under pressure due to regional market dynamics issues and demandsupply imbalance. It is expected that the next two months might be sluggish if marriages and monsoon do not turn in favour of the markets. The Ply Reporter foresees a pickup in sales during June-July with many new sites opening up in every city and town. The resuming ‘work from office’ is certainly going to add better demand for aggressive and active plywood manufacturing companies.

SALASAR GROUP NEW LAMINATE UNIT TO START PRODUCTION IN JULY 2022

INTERVIEW

Seeing the market demand, Salasar Laminates Group is expanding its HPL manufacturing capacity by setting up new unit in Gandhidham, Gujarat. With new plant, the company will cater both overseas and domestic demand. During one 2 one interaction with The Ply Reporter, Managing Director Mr. Vikas Agarwal expects to exceed Rs 500 turnover of his entire laminates business by 2024.

98

Mr. Vikas Agarwal, Managing Director, Salasar Laminates Group You are going to establish a new Laminates manufacturing unit in Gujarat. Please tell us about that. There is selling potential in the market and demand is there as well. From the current unit, we are exporting and, in that context, our target objective is to cater to the need for which the unit was established is not getting fulfilled. We are unable to stock an adequate number of sheets of the products placed in the folders for the domestic market. Due to that, sometimes our supplies are delayed as well. In liner grade, we are unable to work openly, so this customer segment remains untapped. These are the reasons we have planned

ACTION TESA BOILO BWP FR HDF AND HDHMR RECEIVED HUGE APPRECIATION

Action TESA focused on Action Boilo BWP FR HDF as a replacement of BWP Plywood & Fire retardant boards and also showcased HDHMR in the exhibition, which received much appreciation from the visitors. They witnessed a large number of visitors asking about their offerings. Mr Ajay Agarwal, MD, Action TESA said, "In coming times, Action Boilo BWP FR HDF will be a hit product due to its features like being boiling water proof, borer proof, fire retardant, etc. It is essentially a replacement for the boiling water proof ply. We also got a very good response for HDHMR. The product needs no introduction as it has already revolutionised the panel industry's manufacturing and trade. There is a reason behind it; we don’t compromise on quality. " "Today, in the furniture industry, the carpenters' work has almost

vanished. With HDHMR, the workmanship is very easy, so this is getting picked up by furniture manufacturers as well as carpenters. The carpenters and contractors have stated that they recommend this product because with it they save time by 50%. Its lower thickness range, like 3mm offerings, is revolutionising door manufacturing and veneer applications also. We have introduced 2.7 mm also, which is also very good for the door industry, "he added. Besides, they also showcased their existing range of products like plain and pre-laminated MDF. The visitors were overwhelmed by the variety of products available, including HDHMR doors, HDF laminated flooring, Embossed HDF, UV coated panels, Acrylic high gloss panels, door skins, and so on.
