Indian designers going global
India is slowing waking up to using Augmented reality and Virtual reality for experiential solutions. Architecture & Design has this big time challenge of convincing clients about how the final design would look and how various functions would integrate. Also we have so many stakeholders in some projects that it becomes difficult to address various issues and communicate common messages to all without generation loss. I feel, VR & AR could be beautifully put to use for filling these gaps on a wide scale. It makes me glad to see many start-ups doing amazing job in bringing innovative visualization products & services.
The presence of Indian architects & designers in the global architecture scenario is slowly but steadily accelerating and we hope to see momentum growing in the time to come. It’s a welcome sign to see Indian names presenting in International conferences and winning International design competitions. In the recent future, we are seeing more opportunities for our designers to be part of international projects.

Designers today are increasingly taking interest in learning the various nuances of business of design and work equally hard towards achieving a fine balance. India is very much influenced by the on-going entrepreneurship culture. With our architects getting more Global exposure, I can see strong spurts of entrepreneurship among designers. Internationally, Bjarke Ingels who has taken up the role of an entrepreneur, is not afraid to step outside of their immediate area of expertise. BIG’s incubator called BIG IDEAS is creating design prototypes, products & materials for Architecture, Engineering & Construction. They are also working on a Hyperloop high speed transportation system. Important to note, as his firm is getting diverse, his work seems to be getting even more focussed.
Win-Win Collaborations
Architecture & Design, especially amongst the younger generation is blurring boundaries which means the millennial architects don’t necessarily look at architecture as an isolated discipline. Many are looking at Collaboration with other firms for adding more value & experience to each other’s pursuits. We are seeing this grow as more International designers are looking at collaborating with Indian firms. As the world is shrinking, more firms are coming out of their shells to be a part of this win-win collaborative world.
3 3D Printing While 3D visualisation has been in use since a long time, 3D printing has added the new dimension to designers in order to explore newer design options which the traditional methods were restricted to. Low cost 3D architectural models can be created with utmost precision, even fluidic designs for architecture & interior design, products and furniture. We see 3D printing gaining even more pace this year with lots of action in this arena.

SURFACES REPORTER | focus: STONES & Marble
~Stones are timeless~
Dreams Created
with Stones
A beautiful dream if it were to come true, to remain forever, we would like to think of it to be etched in stone. Something that comes natural to human beings, for stones are timeless and stones are unique, beautiful and special. Beauty aside, natural stones are loved for their warmth and earthy feeling that draws human beings to them. They are versatile and are available as limestones, marble, sandstones, slates, granites besides several other varieties. Stones are strong, durable, resistant to fire, adaptable and also aid in sound absorbtion. Though there are few issues that comes with stones in handling and managing wastage, stone is still designers' favourite material for decorating exuberant spaces. SURFACES REPORTER gives you a glimpse of some designs created with stones. If you wish to contribute more on the topic, please write to press@surfaces.in
