2016 is just round the corner, and what a rollercoaster ride 2015 has been. Ah…, it feels just like yesterday that we were celebrating the New Year. Happy to move ahead with lot of hopes, much more to do and so much excitement and exhilaration! Surfaces Reporter grew into a full-fledged monthly national magazine this year with postal number, stand distribution and we successfully brought the 500+ designs together in SHOWCASE Collector’s Edition Vol-II. The team has worked hard and we are glad to have come so far in four years. 2016 will be yet another milestone year for us since we are coming up with the First Ever Awards Ceremony from the Surfaces kitty. As Swami Rama said, “Woman is the First Architect of this world.” Our event and special issue on Women Architects of India would be a tribute to India’s talented Women Architects who bring in life to work while balancing a lot of errands. The issue will hit the ground in March followed by our namesake event ‘Women Architects of India’ to be held around the same time, corresponding with the ‘International Women’s Day’. This is a topic as close City Palace, Udaipur to my heart as my passion for materials. We intend to create a platform where Women in this profession can come together, connect with each other, mentor the upcoming ones, teach, learn, share, talk about varied topics and celebrate, while at the same time, we bring to the fore the tremendous talent pool that we have in this segment. We are very excited about this! Looking at the abundance of new products and materials coming up today, yet the dearth of right & to-the-point information, we are getting deeper into the markets to get the maximum valuable information for you. This issue has about 80 new products & designs fetched from India’s premier exhibitions Acetech and Index. Regarding the stories inside, I wish to inform that we have shifted the article “Are design boundaries blurring between natural and man-made products?” Owing to the vastness of this topic, we felt the need for some more research in this segment. Also because, while Surfaces Reporter cannot compromise on essence of any subject, it is imperative for us to come on Time! Don’t miss our story in Material Laboratory section where uPVC is under scanner. We presented some tough questions received from the market to major uPVC brands and sought some insightful answers. People often refrain from asking questions which not only breaks the communication but also creates an invisible barrier; hence this section is aimed at putting one product or material in spotlight and getting these barriers lifted, for you to make more informed decision. 10 questions are put to Navin Raheja, Chairman of Raheja Builders in our section 10/10 Person of Substance where he candidly talked about the real estate scenario and his personal life, which is no less action filled than the work he is into.
