Global Trends in Design
Currently in vogue and some emerging
For myself and my team working for Surfaces Reporter Magazine India, exploration is a part of life. Daily, we come across many new ideas and designs. Some just pop in and out, while a few not only create a lasting impression but also evolve with time. There are ideas that enter the design world like a simple trend and eventually become a part of our life. In this article, I am exploring a few quirky trends like ‘Minimal Design Maximal Art’ and ‘Mix but Do Not Match’. Among the rest of ideas, some have the potential for massive advancement, especially, ‘Biofacturing,’ ‘Technology & Design for health & wellbeing,’ and ‘Self Sustainable Homes’ which are currently at a nascent stage.

What people are saying about “Surfaces Reporter & The Talk of Town" Messages for Surfaces Reporter Surfaces Reporter Magazine provides a wide range of readers with ideas, solutions and a complete panorama of materials & design trends. Challenging the readers to make their space a unique reflection of who they are, each issue of Surfaces Reporter Magazine is filled with inspiring designs, fresh and stylish products and helpful materials for design principles. - Mohammad Afnan & Arun Shekhar Humming Tree, Calicut
This is just the second edition of Surface Reporter I got. I really appreciate the kind of approach and content you put. It's one of the very few which serves that much of about Material (innovative and emerging) details. So far as a suggestion is concerned I would opine a word "INCLUSION". As the word says I wish to have some inclusion in The Talk Of Town event. As many professionals are attending this event and get many useful inputs and outputs in the form of experience and knowledge. Hence I wish if you could make the inclusion of some professional Carpenters (Contractors) as they are the ultimate creator of any item or a product. There are many contractors too who are not just skill-based people but work as a professional unit. Thanks and Regards.
Messages for The Talk Of Town Your team has been doing great service to society by bringing Architects and society on the same platform. - Prof. Ashok Goel, New Delhi
In this age and time, the biggest thing an editorial platform can do – is actually become the base and pave way for design discourse. I am very happy to see Surfaces Reporter’s Initiative ‘The Talk of Town’ Series across multiple cities in India. By generating that kind of engagement within the architectural design community they are creating platforms that foster thought provoking discussions. At the end of the day, design only grows as much as the discourse for it grows. - Ar Sonali Rastogi, Morphogenesis

Surfaces Reporter’s | Steel in Construction
Steel in Construction Focus on Stainless Steel & Colour Coated Steel
Steel is largely used in construction projects mainly because of its durability. Its highest strengthto-weight ratio, as compared to any other building material, makes it ideal for buildings both large and small. Steel is also a very consistent construction material. This is because standards are usually followed in steel production for various grades.
A
Stainless Steel
popular type of steel, largely used in construction is ‘Stainless Steel’. It is defined as a steel alloy with a minimum of 11.5% chromium content. This chromium content provides Stainless Steel with its corrosion resistance, enabling the natural and continuous development of a chromium oxide surface layer. This oxide, provides it with lasting protection against all types of corrosion. Stainless Steel is a ‘green material,’ which is recyclable. It is environmentally neutral, inert and when in contact with elements such as water, it does not leach compounds that might modify their composition. These qualities make it a material
which is ideally suited to building and construction applications: roofs, facades, rainwater recovery systems, domestic water pipes and swimming pools as well as bridges. While constructing any building, the structure requires an adequate amount of support and rigidity, and Stainless Steel provides that. Developed in the early 1900’s, Stainless Steel has been an ideal material for creating various types of styling as well. Enhancements to buildings can be made from Stainless Steel which if produced from another material would prove extremely costly. These qualities make Stainless Steel a popular choice among architects and designers.
Redefining Possibilities with Stainless Steel - Jindal Stainless Jindal Stainless Limited (JSL) is India’s largest Stainless Steel producer. It is one of the largest Stainless Steel conglomerates in the world. The Group has an annual crude steel capacity of 1.8 MTPA with an annual turnover of INR14,500 crore. Inspired by the founder’s vision for constant innovation and enriching lives, Jindal Stainless endeavours to excel in every aspect of its business and offer worldclass products & services.
