WADe India! Surfaces Reporter is proud to be a part of the initiative of our group to create a platform for Women Architects & Designers of India. On the eve of International Women's Day, we couldn't find a better gift for the women in the industry than to recognize & acknowledge their contribution. During our research in 2013, we envisaged to list out the works of past women designers of India. We were upset to know there is no trajectory of the work done by them. WADe India is launched with four main objectives - facilitating interaction between the mentors and aspiring ones; to document and also make the projects of women led projects more visible; to understand need and promote sharing & learning; to recognize and reward women talent among architects & designers of India. Our first step towards launching the platform is by creating a set of Role Models who are expected to play crucial role to enable meeting of the objectives. Many of these women are not only among the most dynamic architects & designers of India but also known for their social initiatives, management skills and work-life balance. Our research in tier II and III towns and cities reveals that the women there are largely dependent on magazines & internet for information. This platform can add a broader dimension by bringing them in the same platform of interaction as their Role Models. WADe believes, there is no dearth of good talent among our women and the inclination for helping & growing together. What was missing is a platform to connect and facilitate this noble objective. And this way, together, we can create a distinct identity and not let their contribution to be lost in oblivion. To sum it up, I would like to request you to send us more information about the life and projects of past women designers. In this issue, we tried to compile and recognize the contribution of some of them. Also, we have compiled some of the best works of Ar. Daniel Libeskind along with some stunning furniture designs by Stelios Mousarris.
