GIVE GOLF A GO! T
he Surrey Ladies County Golf Association (SLCGA) is urging women and girls to ‘Give Golf a Go’. The association is sponsoring a women and girls’ golf week at golf clubs across the County to encourage more women and girls to try golf and hopefully take up the sport. There will be events at 16 clubs in the county between 25th April and 1st May. Women and girls who sign up to ‘Give Golf a Go’ will take part in a group lesson with a PGA professional, during which they will be introduced to the basics of golf. They will also take a tour of the club and meet some of the members over refreshments. All equipment will be provided. Sue Wild, Surrey Ladies’ County
Captain said, “We want to see more women and girls on the golf course enjoying this great sport, which is not only great exercise but also fun and an excellent way to meet people. The pandemic has seen a surge of interest in golf but there are still many more men than women playing the sport. “We are trying to make golf more open and accessible for women and girls; we want to see many more get involved and experience golf. Hopefully, some of those that take part in our ‘women and girls’ golf week and do ‘Give Golf a Go’ will go on to take up the sport and join one of the many Surrey golf clubs.” The golf clubs hosting the taster days will offer participants incentives
to continue playing the game, such as a series of subsidised ‘Give Golf a Go’ lessons. ‘Give Golf a Go’ is one of the SLCGA’s initiatives designed to develop women’s and girls’ golf. The SLCGA signed the Women in Golf Charter, an R&A initiative to attract more women into golf, in June 2021. It is also working with the Golf Foundation on an introductory programme for primary school aged girls, which will be launched soon.
