Welcome... As we head into summer, the Surrey courses are already extremely busy, with many tournaments underway or completed. A special mention to our ladies team who took the national title for the first time in 27 years! Check out John Nobles’ round up for details of some of our big winners so far. ON THE
TEE with County Secretary STEVE MCNEILL
A
t the time of writing, along with several county card events (Surrey Golf Society) we have had several county championships; Charles De Blonay won the U12’s, both the U13 & U14’s was won by Aaron Moody, The Seniors by Tom Hawkings and the ultimate title, the County Amateur was claimed by Charlie Crockett. It would be amiss of me not to mention the fantastic U14 RookieTour, that after a two-year absence due to COVID is now back with a bang, details about this series of events for both boys and girls can be found on the Surrey Golf website, as are reports on each championship and matches. My thanks to all our volunteers and the clubs who support the county by hosting these days. On top of this, as I mentioned in the in the previous edition, we moved office in April to Clandon Regis Golf Club. Based on past experience, moves are never easy, but I have to say this one was fairly smooth, and we have

It’s already mid-June and the Surrey team are in full flow running championships, matches, knock out competitions, coaching sessions, on top of the day to day calls about rules, handicapping, WHS, course rating to name but a few things. been made so welcome. If you are ever passing the office, please feel free to call in to say hi and meet the team, we are more than happy to put the kettle on! One hot golfing topic that has people talking at the moment is about the LIV Tour, is it good for golf or the opposite, only time will tell. As some might say, are the golfers who are taking part greedy or just making the most of an opportunity to secure their families future? There are a lot of views on this, for once I am sitting on the fence, for those of you who know me it is obviously a very strong fence! On the one hand my thought is, haven’t most of these golfers earned enough riches to ensure financial security? On the other hand, if another employer came to you and offered to quadruple your salary and more would you stay or go? Food for thought and discussion. Finally, I am incredibly pleased to report that club membership is still very solid with no drastic downturn as some thought might happen with the relaxing of COVID rules and people going back to work be it in an office or elsewhere. I have never known so many clubs
with waiting lists, which just shows the strength of this great game and the number of new people coming into it. Great to see and long may it continue. Is poor sight affecting your golf game? Cataracts, glaucoma and age-related macular degeneration are the most likely conditions to affect vision. COUNTY LADIES
County Champion CROWNED Surrey crowned a new Ladies’ County Champion at Walton Heath on Sunday, 3rd April. Becky Gee of Hindhead won the Challenge Trophy beating Lottie Woodham from West Hill in a match of high quality.
T
he final, played on Walton Heath’s Old Course, was a closely fought affair with the players trading holes across the front nine. As the match progressed, Becky established a slim lead which she then began to extend. Lottie refused to give in, continuing to play some lovely golf. She looked as though she might stage a fight back when she won the 15th hole but Becky closed out the match on the 16th to win 3/2. The golf played by both girls was of a very high standard, fitting for a County
Championship final. Lottie, at 13 years old, looks to have a wonderful golfing future. In the morning semi-finals, Becky Gee beat Herry Ji of Burhill in a tight match, finally winning 2/1 on the 17th. Lottie Woodham beat Alex Jakins of Foxhills in a match that saw the girls swapping the lead on every hole until the 12th, where Lottie had a fine birdie. She continued to play steady golf and took victory 3/2 on the 16th. The 36 hole stroke play qualifying stage of the Championship on Friday,
1st April, was played over the Old Course at Walton Heath in the most challenging of conditions. The temperature hovered around zero for most of the morning, with a bitter wind chill and intermittent snow showers and only occasional bursts of sunshine. The leading qualifier was Ellie Monk of Sunningdale who won the Winnie Hill Cup for the lowest aggregate scratch score on countback from Kim Munro of Epsom Golf Club, both with an aggregate of 157. The trophies were presented by Jill Thornhill, President of Walton Heath Golf Club. Jill is one of Surrey’s finest and most successful amateur lady golfers. She represented GB&I in the Curtis Cup on four occasions, played for England in the Home Internationals nine times and won many ladies’ amateur championships.

NEWS ROUND UP SPRING 2022 ‘GIVE GOLF A GO’ WOMEN AND GIRLS’ TASTER WEEK A GREAT SUCCESS
T
he SLCGA sponsored ‘Give Golf a Go’ taster week at the end of April proved a great success. Over 200 women and girls took the opportunity to sign up and attend the introductory golf sessions, which were held at 16 clubs across Surrey. Sue Wild, Surrey Ladies’ County Captain, said, ‘We were delighted with the response to our ‘Give Golf a Go’ initiative, as were the clubs which took part. Our aim was to make golf more open and accessible and to encourage more women and girls to ‘Give Golf a Go’. “In Surrey, the number of women playing golf is a fraction of the number
of men; around 7,000 compared to over 42,000. We want to reduce the gap and to see more women and girls on the golf course enjoying this great sport, which is not only great exercise but also fun and an excellent way to meet people. Hopefully, many of those who took part in ‘Give Golf a Go’ will now have a taste for golf and come back for more. We have had extremely positive feedback from the clubs involved in the initiative. Many are offering follow up lessons and several have already welcomed participants into their Ladies’ Academies. The majority of clubs involved said it was a very worthwhile experience.”
Sixteen clubs signed up to hold events between 25th April and 1st May. They offered women and girls the opportunity to take part in group lessons with a PGA professional and meet members of the club over refreshments. The SLCGA provided marketing materials and support as well as an online booking facility for the clubs. NEW WEBSITE The SLCGA launched a new website. The new site is easy to navigate and is full of useful information, as well as the latest news from Surrey Ladies’ golf. It is the best way to find out about upcoming ladies’ competitions in Surrey, not only SLCGA run events but also Club Opens, and how to enter. There is a wide range of information about the committee, county teams, junior coaching and women into golf initiatives, as well as details of who to contact if you have a question. OFFICE MOVE

Stephen Jensen holed a fantastic birdie putt on the 18th green to clinch a dramatic comeback victory in the final of the inaugural English Senior Men’s Amateur Championship.
JENSEN CROWNED ENGLISH SENIOR MEN’S AMATEUR CHAMPION
A
fter five days of intense competition at The Leicestershire Golf Club featuring over 100 of the country’s top seniors, the 56-yearold from The Wisley emerged victorious in a thrilling match against Andrew Smith representing Royal Ashdown Forest. It was a stunning win in more ways than one. After eight holes of the final, Smith led by three holes and was playing beautifully. However, Jensen rallied to draw level by the 12th and after four halved holes, took an important step towards the title by winning the par 3, 17th hole with a par. The real drama was reserved for the final hole. Smith – with nothing to lose – drained a 35-foot putt across

the slope on the final green for a birdie. With the crowd edging towards the first tee and the expected play-off, Jensen took a deep breath and promptly canned his effort from 25 feet to match his opponent’s birdie and win by a hole. It was a fitting way for the final to be decided and for Jensen it was a moment of real emotion. “I think it’s probably the most exciting game of golf I’ve ever been involved in. It was nip and tuck from the start. I got off to a good start – but let a few holes slip and found myself three down again having done that with Rupert (in the semi) and thought ‘here I go again. I felt as if I was playing good enough golf to get back in it and I did. Once I got back in it, I couldn’t nudge ahead. He holed
some very good putts, he’s a gritty player. And you saw what happened down the last – it doesn’t get any more dramatic than that. It beats Thorbjorn Olesen from a few weeks ago. I was very excited. I’m delighted and it was a lot of fun to be a part of.” Jensen admitted he thought a routine par down the tricky 18th hole would be good enough to earn him the win – especially with Smith facing a treacherous putt across the slope. But when his rival holed his effort, Jensen knew he had a free shot at glory. The final itself was another fine example of seniors’ golf at its best with Jensen – the English Mid-Amateur champion back in 2017 – now adding a senior title to his golfing CV.

Surrey Golf 2022 SEASON UPDATE It’s been a busy a busy start to the season with several Surrey County Championships having taken place already, here’s my round up of the action so far. By John Noble
A
fter the County golf league season being cancelled due to COVID in 2020 and played with restrictions in 2021, it’s great that it looks like 2022 will have an element of normality. All the squads, men, ladies, boys and girls have been getting together over the Autumn, Winter and Spring in preparation for a busy 2022 season. As we go into the 2022 season the Men’s First team have had pre-season friendlies opposing Surrey Club scratch teams resulting in 5 wins and a draw going into the first league match of the year at Nevill GC on June 5th v Sussex. The team have also had several training days with Jim Christine and John Noble at Farnham and a weekend camp at Cumberwell Park GC in Wiltshire. The early league season matches have gone well for Surrey with the U18 Boys beating both Hampshire (4.5-3.5) and Kent (6-2) in the triple matchplay singles format away in Hampshire at
Southwick Park, and the U16 Boys beating Hampshire (6-2 ) and Kent (5-3) at Royal Winchester GC also In the triple matchplay format. ALSO THIS SEASON: Charlie Crockett (Addington Palace) defeated Will Dugdale (Reigate Hill) at West Byfleet, while Rebecca Gee (Hindhead) defeated Lottie Woodham (West Hill) at Walton Heath. Congratulations to Charles de Blonay (Royal Mid Surrey) won the boy U12 Championships at Milford. Surrey had a successful year in 2021 with the Men’s First team reaching the South East League final only to be narrowly beaten in the final by Essex at The Army GC. The Surrey Ladies team won the national title for the first time in 27 years at Denham GC, winning 5 matches out of 5 over the 3 day finals following an unbeaten county match week and are very much looking forward to defending
the title by qualifying for the finals again on home soil June 27-29 at Burhill GC, having had several evening training sessions at Hoebridge GC and friendly matches at Worplesdon GC and Walton Heath GC in the Spring. The Ladies Senior Team added to the trophy tally by winning the Inter County Team Championships at Stoke Rochford GC. The U14 Boys won the South East League at Dulwich & Sydenham GC whilst the Girls won the Junior County Match week at Puttenham GC. The Colts (age group 19-25) have had 2 matches losing to Hampshire (93) at The Army GC but bouncing back with resilience to beat Essex away at Abridge (7-5). The Seniors Men’s team found very good Kent team too strong in the first match of the season at Rochester & Cobham GC losing 7-3. STILL TO COME... The Boys U14s have yet to play in defence of the South East title but are looking strong in depth going into the season. The County ‘A’ Team will play around 16 matches this year against Surrey club scratch teams providing a competitive team environment for creating integration with the First and Colts squads We also have 120 Girls and Boys involved in the County Academy program (CAP).

GUILDFORD GOLFING ALLIANCE
CELEBRATES CENTENARY The Guildford Alliance the Surrey based Pro-am series has just completed the 2021/22 season which was made even more special by the fact that this was our centenary season and the fact that we were able to play a full season of events.
T
he Centenary season has a total of 19 fixtures and more than 250 amateurs, and 80 professionals played in our events during the season and The Guildford Alliance events continue to be as popular as ever and nearly all of the events were fully subscribed and often had a reserve list. Many thanks to all the golf clubs who hosted our events this season. This season we added Hayling to our list of venues and we were blessed with glorious weather and I am sure Hayling will be firmly established on our rota from now on – we also had a two day trip to Sandwich and played Princes
Professional Challenge winner – Sam Hutsby
and Royal Cinque Ports and once again the weather was glorious – in 2023 our away trip is to Bournemouth to play Ferndown, Broadstone and Stoneham. Our season began at Walton Heath for our Centenary event which had an amazing 43 teams playing on the day and great to see some of the Guildford Alliance players who do not play in the Alliance so much now playing on the day – the fixtures that we played during the season were at Hankley Common, Blackmoor, North Hants, Swinley Forest, Liphook, Sunningdale Heath, New Zealand, Hayling, Liphook, Woking (sadly this event was cancelled

We held our end of season championship event at Walton Heath – played over both the Old and New Course and the Professional Challenge Trophy was won by Sam Hutsby (Hedge End Golf Centre) with a great score of 12 under Par over the two rounds. Sam joins a long list of past winners which includes Open Champions Max Faulkner, Henry Cotton, Bobby Locke, Alf Perry, Alf Padgham and Richard Burton, as well as former Ryder Cup players George Duncan, George Will, Neil Coles, Ken Bousfield, Peter Alliss, Arthur Lacey and many more leading PGA professional golfers. The Amateur Scratch Trophy was won by Philip Clarke (Hankley Common) with 6 over par score. The season long Order of Merit winners were professional Craig Sutherland (Poult Wood) and amateur Jason French (Langley Park). ANNABEL & EMILY PEAFORD When did you start playing golf and who was your inspiration?
What have been your career highlights so far?
Our Dad is a PGA Professional and everyone around us has always played golf so it was a natural thing for us to want to do. We had our first golf clubs when we were very small and we used to go up to the golf club and putt to earn our pocket money. We first played 18 holes and got our handicaps at Walton Heath when we were 9.
We were very pleased to be selected for the England Golf South Region U16 girls squad in 2021. We have really enjoyed the training sessions and it has been good fun playing in national competitions with the other girls.
Do you have a favourite player and who would be in your dream fourball? We don’t have one favourite player. We like watching both men’s and ladies’ golf and it is exciting to see new young players as well as the big names competing. Our dream fourball would be us two, with Nelly and Jessica Korda. They are such good players, really inspirational and we think it would be a lot of fun! As golfing sisters, we would have a lot in common with them. We are sure that, like us, they are golfing rivals but are also the best of friends.
We have played for the Walton Heath Ladies scratch team and junior teams and have also represented Surrey in the ladies second team. Emily had a round of 4 under par at Walton Heath last summer and Annabel had her first hole in one at the South Region Championships at Hartey Wintney. How often do you play/practice? It really depends on the time of year. We try and practice two or three evenings a week after school and we often have South Region or Surrey Performance Squad training days or strength and conditioning sessions at the weekend. We also practice putting in the lounge at home! We usually
play golf every weekend as well, but during the summer we play most days especially when we are not at school. Is finding time to play whilst managing school/work etc. difficult? It can be hard to fit everything in that we want to do, as well as our school work. Our weekends are busy and we often have school matches in the morning, followed by golf or a tennis tournament in the afternoon. Are there specific areas of your game that you work on and how do you monitor your results to try and identify any concerns you have? We have a plan for our swings which we work on with our Dad and Alex Saary, our England Golf Coach, but we also try to mix up our practice to keep it fun. Sometimes we practice at the driving range, sometimes on the course. We enjoy making it competitive against each other and also against our Dad. After competitions, we always talk about how we played and think about what we could do better next time. Sometimes it is a new shot we need to learn, or sometimes it is just a matter of course management and making better decisions. We have still got so much to learn and playing different types of golf courses is a great way to find out what you don’t know yet! What are your goals for 2022 and beyond? This year, our goal is to get our handicaps as close to scratch as possible. We are playing in lots of different competitions and matches so should have plenty of opportunities to play well. It would be great if we could win an event or finish somewhere near the top in an important competition.

Long term, we would both love to go to university in America and play amateur golf at the highest level.

And after a hard day on the golf course, you will usually find us on the sofa watching TV with our Burmese cats Coco and Candy!

HOW TO BUILD CONFIDENCE IN YOUR SHORT GAME Mental coach David MacKenzie shares his best mental game techniques for building confidence in your short game and getting up and down more frequently.
MAKE PROCESS THE GOAL Executing your short game skills starts with having a clear process, so you focus on that rather than what the outcome might be. We need more certainty by having clear goals for what you are going to bring your attention to before, during and after every shot. Write down 3-4 things that will become your ‘process’ and make that the goal for each shot.
CONTROLLING NERVES IN THE SHORT GAME When your heart rate goes up, it means that your nervous system is on ‘high alert’. Energy flows away from your brain towards your muscles (which is one of reasons that focusing is harder and you can get tense or shake). When you feel this, breathe and notice your grip pressure. Focusing on breathing properly will not only lower tension, but you’ll bring your mind into the present.
VISUALISE YOURSELF HAVING A GREAT SHORT GAME If you close your eyes and imagine yourself playing short game shots, can you see yourself being successful? If you can’t, you will struggle to do it for real. Do some visualisation exercises where you close your eyes and see yourself hitting an array of short game shots on the course (make it vivid). If you can see it, you can believe it’s possible and it will help you do it for real.

FOCUS IN THE SHORT GAME When you are practicing your short game, it’s likely that your focus is more ‘external’ and on the intention for the shot you want to hit. On the golf course, because of fear of hitting a bad shot, that focus can move ‘internal’ and more on the swing. The player believes that if they can just make the correct movement, they will avoid the outcomes they fear. When you do this, you lose your connection with the target, your feel and your rhythm. Studies have proven this to be true, even more so for the short game, that focus for any level of player is always better on the intention for the shot (external focus), rather than what the body is doing.
HAVE A POST SHOT ROUTINE The post shot routine is a very overlooked part of the process. If a player doesn’t have a good post shot routine or is unaware, they will store the bad shot/experience deeply (by not being able to move on). This then affects their overall belief and confidence in their short game. Develop awareness of your thinking after a shot
and choose good responses to bad shots that you will inevitably hit (even the pros do too) from time to time.
BEING PRESENT If a player is unable to accept hitting a poor shot (and do it quickly), they can ruminate on it in between shots, which can affect mood and lower performance. Being able to be in the present moment and aware of where you are placing your attention in between shots is a key factor in any player’s success.
SHORT GAME PRACTICE To get better at dealing with the pressure you feel on the course, it makes sense that you put yourself to the test during practice. Set up a practice environment with challenges and consequences that will make you feel nervous and increase arousal, so you can put some of these strategies to the test. I
n 2018 I stopped playing team sports, hung up my football boots and turned my competitive attention to golf. It was a sport I’d always wanted to get good at and was curious to see that if I committed to it fully, could I become a single figure golfer. After getting my first official handicap of 12, it took less than 6 months to achieve that particular goal. Off the back of my passion for golf, my own achievements & my background in the fitness industry I started focussing my efforts on helping other passionate golfers improve their game through the means of better fitness training. In this article I’m going to talk about the three things I’d do straight away if I was starting from scratch tomorrow and wanted to improve my fitness for the golf course. FIND 2-4 NON-NEGOTIABLE TIMES EVERY WEEK TO TRAIN The biggest thing to get right with a training plan is your ability to stay consistent which means it makes sense to not leave that part up to chance. The way I see it, a ‘basic’ programme completed well 3x per week knocks the socks off a so called ‘perfect’ plan done once a month.

Find 2-4 time slots of 30-60 minutes in your diary that you can commit to training and make them nonnegotiable. LEARN HOW TO LIFT WEIGHTS SAFELY & EFFECTIVELY Two of the biggest factors that lifting weights can bring to your golf game are reduced risk of injury and an increase in club head speed which means that you can play and practise more often and add yards to your game. Learning how to lift weights safely and effectively will massively help you fill your 2-4 time slots every week and help ensure you’re always ready to give your best on the course. CREATE SOME ACCOUNTABILITY TO SOMEONE It’s all well and good having the best laid intentions, but having someone there to check in with and make sure you’re doing the things you said you
would, greatly increases your chances of being successful. Once you’ve committed to training, make yourself accountable to someone and get them to ask about your progress. This can be a mate, partner, family member or if you’re learning how to train properly, go all out and hire a coach for a period of time who will not only teach you about training and hold you accountable but will help measure your progress as well. 5 EASY WAYS TO IMPROVE YOUR PUTTING Some simple ways to improve your stroke, strike and start line in putting with PGA Professional, Sam Truman
M
ost golfers are culprits of not practising their putting enough or at all. Therefore, I’m going to give you some quick and simple ways to assess and to improve your putting. You won’t need any fancy equipment or technology for these drills. You’ll be able to find most of the equipment in your golf bag or at home. POSTURE For a lot of golfers, issues in their strokes tend to start from a poor start position. They struggle to move the putter in a functional way because the body is either miss-aligned to the target or is in a position/posture whereby they can’t move the upper chest and arms independently. Here’s a drill which will help you find a nice balanced posture over the ball that will allow the putter to work freely in the stroke.

Balance beam drill – Place your foot evenly across the balance beam and roll from heel to toe to find the point where you can hover. Whilst standing up straight hold the putter in front of you so that your elbows rest against the side of your ribcage and the shaft is parallel to the floor. Softly flex forwards until the putter hits the floor. Try to stay in that balance point the whole way down. ASSESS ROLL If we can’t get the golf ball rolling properly on the floor with our putter it becomes very difficult to control how far the ball travels. As golfers we can be very quick to criticise greens if they’re not in the best condition. The truth is that most golfers do not roll the ball effectively enough therefore when the green surface isn’t as good their putting performance drops dramatically. The simple drill to assess how well

hit without bumping into one of the elastic bands. STROKE LENGTH
you roll it is to use your phone camera (ideally in slow motion mode). Place it directly ahead of you on the floor (pictured), just in front of the start line of the ball. Use a half and half ball (or colour half the ball in) and place a ruler on the floor. Position the ball so the line points vertically and your task is to get one full rotation of the ball by the end of the ruler. STRIKE TEST If we can strike putts out the middle of the face we will be able to control pace more effectively and we will be able to start the ball on line more frequently. A simple drill to assess how you’re striking your putts is to attach two rubber bands to the putter. Place them evenly either side of the sweet spot with enough room for the ball to be able to strike the face. See how many putts in a row you can

Players who typically control pace really well often have a really nice balanced matched up stroke. This would mean that the backstroke and through stroke lengths are very similar. This means that it’s more likely for them to be able to get the putter travelling at a nice consistent speed through impact. Imagine, if your putter doesn’t travel back very far but your follow through is really long, this can cause a lot of acceleration through the ball. Therefore, it may go unexpectedly too far. Here’s a drill to train how to match up your stroke length. Place three tees either
side of the ball evenly spaced out (as pictured). Your job is to mirror the stroke to the three different stroke lengths represented by the tees. If your rhythm and tempo stay the same and the stroke length doesn’t change then the balls should finish in a nice tight grouping. GATE DRILLS The simplest drill in concept but often the most useful (and sometimes the most stressful). Simply place a gate or a set of tees in front of the putter (12 inches ahead) and try to get the ball starting through the gate without hitting the sides. Try this on straight putts and also try it on breaking putts. It will quickly show you your tendency on whether you push or pull putts.

HIDDEN GEMS OF THE CHALLENGE TOUR For this issue, David Boote tell us about some of the hidden golf gems he’s played in Europe. On the Challenge Tour, we are lucky to travel around the world and play so many interesting courses. Some of my favorites are somewhat off the beaten track but luckily I really enjoy the travelling side of my job! Hopefully reading this might inspire you to take a golf trip to somewhere you haven’t thought about before! The first on the list to mention is Adamstal Golf Club in Austria. This

course is around an hour’s drive from Vienna and set in the lower Austrian Alps. It was built by Franz Wittmann, a successful Austrian rally driver, with spectacular views from so many different holes. Wittmann even built himself and family a rally track around the course and surrounding terrain! It really is stunning and one of the most amazing backdrops for scenery I’ve ever played.
The second course worthy of a mention is the Penati Golf Resort. This course in Slovakia is by Nicklaus design and is one of the best tests of golf we have on the Challenge Tour. It’s set amongst tall forest pines with a claim to fame that it boasts the longest hole in Europe, a 780 yard par 6! The finishing hole on the course is a demanding par 4 with a tight drive through the trees and a second shot to an island green!

Another of my favorites is Golf Bluegreen Pleneuf in Brittany, about a 5 hour drive from Calais. This corner of northwest France reminds me a lot of the courses on the Cornish or West Wales coast. The layout is fantastic, set up on the cliffs with beautiful sea views and also over the town of Pleneuf –Val-Andre. It has a number of really tight holes amongst the gorse bushes and, although the wind can

blow, it is a true gem of the Challenge tour circuit. A final course to mention is Royal Obidos Spa and Golf Resort in Portugal. Situated on the rugged Atlantic west coast the course is totally different to those found in the Algarve region. Obidos is a historic inland castle town which is around an hours drive north of Lisbon. Royal Obidos Golf course is 10 minutes away from
the town next to the coast and is set in the hills with spectacular views and is a golf test to match. The town is great to walk around in the evening with its castle walls and local restaurants. Highly recommended as a golf and cultural holiday destination! @davidboote123

Brainchild of Sandy Ganatra; he looked to create an exclusive and flexible golf subscription service that allowed golfing enthusiasts to access a variety of specially selected courses across the UK (and internationally)... under one single membership!

or prospective One Golf Club members, the opportunity to challenge themselves at an array of different courses, preferential room rates at exclusive international golf resorts, the regular annual competitions and discounted lessons with leading teaching professionals make for an attractive proposition. In addition, OGC also has access to a number of golf simulators throughout the country – for those members with busy schedules or just simply looking to improve their overall game. Equally, One Golf Club’s unique concept also seeks a build a symbiotic

relationship with its partner courses where protecting and promoting their interests is also paramount. A valueadded service that not only introduces its members to the unique challenges and facilities of the individual clubs but also by hosting events, promoting club events to OGC members, and supporting any events with team entries from the OGC membership. In addition, all OGC members are encouraged and supported to use the portfolio courses for their own corporate events and golfing societies. The One Golf Club Subscription isn’t meant to replace traditional golf club membership but to complement it: For the partner clubs, a profiled membership (OGC average member handicap is 12.7), limited access to tees and the additional revenue from events, sponsorship opportunities and the OGC ‘higher-than-average’ visitor spend, means partnering up with One Golf offers an attractive addition to their green fees. OGC members do not participate in any club competitions and will always strictly avoid memberonly times. However, many OGC members do go on to join member clubs, that they otherwise may not have visited. The course list has expanded rapidly in recent years to include venues from Brighton to Birmingham. In 2022 OGC also added its first international venues to the portfolio, including Canada, Portugal, and Dubai.
Scotland and Ireland will follow later this year. OGC is a sponsor for the Disabled Golfers Association, The Royal Marsden and The Kidney fund, and members participate in club events to raise funds for good causes, always on the portfolio clubs. The membership comprises of professional golfers, corporates and individuals with each category having its own benefits. The OGC Golf Concierge service manages bookings for all its members.
