Elevate your seasonal entertaining with an added hint of opulence.
Welcome to the latest issue of Prime Magazine
It’s surprising how quickly spring and summer can seem a distant memory at this time of year. With the autumn and winter months upon us, many of us have now begun to retreat indoors. Gone are the evenings of sitting in the garden, as our home comforts begin to call us inside. Whether that’s the warmth of a fireplace, the beckoning of a bathtub, or the call of the kitchen for seasonal home cooking.
I always find the seasonal stigma surrounding the property market at this time of year to be exaggerated. Yes, traditionally the autumn and winter months are a quieter period than the spring, however there are many motivations to move that are seemingly sparked by these seasons. Our plans and aspirations for the year come under the spotlight. Did you plan to move in 2024? Maybe that’s not happened yet. Where do you want to be next year?
As we lose the evening light, imperfections in our home can seem more evident. The summer sunlight no longer streams through our windows, and this can alter the aesthetic, or indeed appeal. Is it time to put a coat on… the walls that is? An autumn overhaul might breathe new life into your indoor spaces (p66).
For those thinking about hosting family or friends over the Christmas and New Year period, the preparation can often point out shortcomings… perhaps it’s parking, constraints in the kitchen or the need for ample entertaining space. If you are hosting at home this year, a private chef can add a hint of opulence to your seasonal entertaining and save you some stress (p86).
We can also find our hobbies hampered by the harsher weather at this time of year, particularly fairer weather sports such as golf. But do you have the space to bring them indoors? For golf enthusiasts, providing your space allows, a golf simulator is the latest luxury amenity and could be the perfect present this Christmas (p40).
Whatever your reason for finding a new home in Surrey, with more Prime sales agreed than any other estate agent*, Curchods Prime are in pole position. Official Rightmove statistics show that Curchods have agreed the sales of more properties in Surrey in excess of £1million than any other estate agent in 2024.
For those looking for the finer things in Surrey, Ferrari, who are no stranger to a pole position themselves, have long considered the county to be a home away from home. The eye-catching art deco exterior of Maranello Sales is a local landmark in Egham, and a somewhat surprising second home for the Scuderia (p18). Finally, as we begin to feel festive with Christmas around the corner, we sat down with the Christmas Decorators for some top tips on transforming our homes from the professionals (p30).
*Verified by Rightmove.co.uk statistics for sales agreed over £1,000,000 in Surrey and £2,000,000 in Elmbridge between 01/01/24 - 30/09/24.

From Italy to Egham, how Ferrari found a home in Surrey.
When most people think of Ferrari, they think of Italy. The supercar brand, arguably the most famous and iconic of all, has become synonymous with its Italian roots. However, Surrey is somewhat of a surprising second home for the Scuderia. The county has a rich and unique connection to this iconic supercar brand - from Formula One winning drivers to historic dealerships.
Britain’s first ever Formula One Champion, Mike Hawthorn, who was driving for Scuderia Ferrari when he won the title in 1958, spent much of his life in Surrey. In 1931 Hawthorn’s family moved to Farnham, where Mike attended Barfield school, and his father owned and ran the Tourist Trophy Garage in Farnham, which continues today as Hawthorns.
Shortly after winning the title in 1958, Hawthorn would further Surrey’s Ferrari connection, agreeing a deal with Enzo to sell Ferrari road cars in the UK, becoming the first official UK distributor. In 1960, following the tragic death of Hawthorn, Col Ronnie Hoare, a racer, privateer and dealer, who had been good friends with the Hawthorns, stepped in to become Ferrari’s UK distributor. And so Maranello Concessionaires was born…
Today Maranello Sales, aptly named after the Italian hometown of Ferrari, is a local landmark in Egham. The eye-catching Grade II listed art deco showroom, Tower Garage, with its recognisable clock tower, stands proudly on the Egham Bypass. An iconic building to carry the name of this iconic car brand. It was first leased by Hoare and Maranello Concessionaires in 1967 and has remained a Ferrari flagship ever since.
The showroom, which dates back to 1935, has always had its roots in the automotive industry. It was originally built as a Vauxhall/ Bedford sales and service centre for The Egham Motor Co. before being acquired by Shell in the early 1960s to operate as a petrol station and service centre.
From just four car sales in the first year, an enduring Egham proved to be Ferrari’s gateway to Great Britain… which today represents one the most important markets for Ferrari, with Maranello Sales one of the leading dealers. In 2012 the iconic showroom underwent a multimillion pound investment and refurbishment befitting the Ferrari name. Today, this world class facility is more of an experience for enthusiasts than simply a showroom.
The Egham showroom has up to 35 cars on display, including cars from the current
product range as well as the Ferrari Approved programme.
If you’re an existing or aspiring Ferrari owner in Surrey, Maranello Sales is a must visit. Clients are invited to exclusive events at Maranello Sales, from Formula One screenings to car previews and launch events.
For more information about Maranello Sales, visit london-maranello.ferraridealers.com, follow @maranelloegham_ferrari on Instagram or call 01784 436431.

Adding a professional touch to your seasonal trimmings
As the first chill of winter whispers through the air and twinkling lights begin to flicker in the night, a familiar excitement stirs. A gradual shift begins from autumnal hues to vibrant reds, greens and golds, signalling the start of the festive season.
Behind these magical transformations, there’s often more than just eager homeowners and businesses stringing lights or hanging garlands. Professional Christmas decorators, dedicated specialists in their craft, take on the task of transforming every corner of a home, office, or public space into an enchanting winter wonderland.
Delivering just that to thousands each year, with many notable installations in Surrey and south west London, The Christmas Decorators promise a service of unrivalled Christmas craftsmanship. With over two decades of experience, they have become the go-to experts, offering a comprehensive service that goes beyond simple decoration.
With The Christmas Decorators you can expect nothing less than a beautifully tailored, stressfree experience to transform your home this festive season. Their expert team will ensure an extravagant display that will leave you, your guests and neighbours in awe.
We spoke with The Christmas Decorators to get their insights on what goes into creating unforgettable festive displays and how you can elevate your home this Christmas.
How long have you been in the Christmas decoration industry, and how has it evolved?
We've been in the business for over two decades, transforming the festive experience for both residential and commercial clients. The industry has shifted towards more personalised, eco-friendly designs. The main thing we see dramatically change year on year is the date our customers want their decorations installed. Each year this date creeps earlier and earlier.
How do you approach creating a unique design for a client?
We take inspiration from the client’s personal style and the architecture of their home, integrating custom colour schemes, materials, and lighting to reflect their vision. It’s always really beneficial for us to immerse ourselves into the space with the family or client before an install. We like to understand how their Christmas festivities pan out so that we can ensure we are decorating with their lifestyle in mind. We find that most of our clients don’t know what they want, but it helps us to know what they really don’t want, and having this conversation with them really helps us reach the end goal.
What level of customisation do you offer? Can clients request specific themes or colour schemes?
We offer complete customisation! Every design is created from scratch, so clients can choose any theme or colour scheme they wantwhether it’s traditional, modern, or something totally unique. We’re all about bringing each client’s vision to life.
What’s the most common request or trend you’ve noticed from clients in recent years?
Clients are increasingly requesting cluster lights as they give a more rustic feel to rooflines and look very eye catching in the dark. Garlands on mantelpieces are always very popular, as it’s a simple but very effective way of bringing some festive décor to a room.
Do you offer sustainable alternatives, like reusable or energy-efficient decorations?
Sustainability is at the heart of what we do. All our decorations are reusable and provided on a rental basis to avoid single-use waste. Our lighting uses the latest energy-efficient LED technology, ensuring low energy consumption. We also recognise the need to address climate change, so we offset our annual emissions and offer clients the option to offset the environmental impact of their decorations, installation and electrical usage too.
How early do you start planning and preparing for the festive season?
We begin planning as soon as we take down the previous year’s decorations. From crafting and sourcing bespoke decorations for our clients, to stock taking and organising, there’s always something to do. It’s Christmas every day of the year for our teams!
What are the top Christmas decoration trends for this year?
This year, there’s a focus on natural materials and a blend of traditional elegance with modern lighting techniques. Shades of red, green, gold, and silver will be popular Christmas colours in 2024, and there is already a demand for larger decorations, think bigger baubles and small props in trees.
What advice would you give to someone looking to elevate their décor at home?
Layer textures, mix traditional and modern elements, and invest in high-quality, reusable decorations that stand the test of time.

The latest luxury home amenity, simulators are the new home cinema
Boasting more than 100 golf courses and home to the BMW PGA Championship, Surrey is somewhat of a golfing hotspot. The popularity of the sport has continued to rise in recent years, and among several factors are the advancement and embracing of technology and the rise of activity bars. Attractions such as Top Golf in Addlestone are the perfect way to get into the swing of it.
For any golf enthusiast, few things beat the feeling of striking a perfect shot and watching your ball sail right down the fairway. But as we head into autumn and winter with unpredictable weather, shorter days and darker nights, enjoying quality time on the course to practice can be a challenge.
Thanks to advancements in technology and innovation by Dave Pelz in the late 1970s, the concept of refining one's swing in a controlled
environment led to the creation of the first golf simulator. Today, golfers can play in any weather, at any time of day and from virtually any location. Offering instant feedback and allowing players to adjust their game more effectively, golf simulators have become invaluable for improving performance across all golfing skill levels.
Many golfers are taking things a step further, with golf simulator ownership on the rise, constructing their very own private golf haven right at home – a dedicated simulator studio for practice, entertainment and even improving skills through lessons and training. With over 20 years’ experience designing and building the world’s most exclusive simulators, we enlisted the expertise of Golf Swing Systems, founded and based in Surrey, for their advice on installing the par-fect at home luxury amenity to drive your game forward.
How does a golf simulator work?
A golf simulator is designed to bring golf practice and play indoors. They use a launch monitor, usually a radar device or camera to measure and track a real golf ball. This means you can hit full shots, just like on the course and see the result on an impact resistant projector screen, all from the comfort of your home.
What can a golf simulator offer that the golf course/driving range can’t?
Privacy. Comfort. Luxury.
Will a golf simulator improve my game?
Golf simulators help to improve your game in several ways including providing access to data and videos of your swing. However, there is one way they help your game most… you never need to worry about the weather again. No travel time, no rain delays, no slow pace of play. Perfect practice, every time, whenever you want!
What are the benefits of installing a simulator at home?
Installing a simulator at home gives a host of benefits. Like we said, you can play whenever you want without the need for perfect weather or playing conditions. A simulator can also be a fantastic entertainment space for family and friends, whether they are keen golfers, or just getting into the game. You can also benefit from customising the room to your preferences. If you want a bespoke sound system, a bar, a socialising space or even a home cinema, you can have it with a custom setup! The room will be unique to you.
What is the best golf simulator on the market right now?
Is it biased if I say one that we install? In all seriousness, the best unit on the market depends on the customer. We are a totally independent company so we don’t have to sell you a specific launch monitor, rather, we can find the perfect one for you. There are of course some stand out names at the tip of the mountain like Trackman and Foresight but brands like SkyTrak, FlightScope and Rapsodo all have their perfect customer as well.
What golf simulator do pro golfers use?
Typically, a golf pro will use either a Trackman unit or a Foresight GC Quad. There is an ongoing battle between the two for dominance on the Tour, but both are unbelievably good at what they do.
How much does it cost to install a golf simulator?
Typically, golf simulators will range from £10,000 up to £50,000 for an indoor setup. The price is dictated by how much luxury and technology you want to introduce. We can even build buildings to house a simulator which then changes this from a room conversion to full build project.
How much space do I need?
Our motto is “If you can swing a club safely, then we can find a simulator for you”, however there is a goldilocks size. Anything above 6m in depth, 4.5m in width and 3m in height will have no restrictions on any launch monitor. This means you can have any setup you wish.
Do I need planning?
You will only need planning if you require an outdoor building to be constructed and you are beyond the permitted development laws for your area. We liaise with architects and planning specialists to advise on this process and will ensure everything obeys the rules. For internal changes however there is rarely a need for permissions unless the building is listed.
Can I covert an existing garden room/ outhouse into a golf simulator?
Absolutely. Any space you have which is large enough can be converted into a simulator. If the outhouse is not watertight, we can renovate it and adjust to ensure everything is safe and comfortable. For example, we are currently in the process of converting a leaky stable block into a full entertainment complex!

Prime property market update
An update on the Prime Property Market in Surrey and south west London from Head of Curchods Prime, Warren Fraser.
Across the UK, residential property sales experienced a notable resurgence in momentum in Q3 with the supply of properties for sale higher than at any point in the previous six years. Lower interest rates, more stable mortgage rates and a post general election landscape have given homeowners the confidence to come to market.
The Prime residential market in Surrey and south west London was no exception, enjoying a buoyant summer period. Sales activity was higher than usually expected in August and there was plenty of anticipation around a further uptick in activity in September, which certainly did not disappoint.
A surge in new listings of properties valued above £2million came to the market in September and it proved to be one of the busiest months this year, second only to May. It represented an increase of 15% on the number of Prime properties that came to market in September 2023, while agreed sales of Prime properties in September also increased by 10% on 2023 levels.
As we head into the later autumn and winter months, the autumn budget with potential tax changes is a consideration for some, however it would appear that this is doing little to affect the overall appetite to move.
At Curchods we continue to lead the way for Prime property sales across Surrey. Verified by official Rightmove statistics up to the end of September 2024, Curchods agreed more sales of properties above £1million in Surrey than any other estate agent in 2024. In Elmbridge, Curchods continue to be the go-to experts on the doorstep, leading the way for sales agreed across the whole of the market, above £1million and above £2million.
If you are still considering a move in 2024, now could be the perfect time to come to market. With a Prime marketplace buoyed by early autumn activity we are registering an increased number of buyers looking to move this year.

A cosy retreat: refresh your space for autumn with COAT Paints
As the sun dips lower and summer's warmth fades into the golden tones of autumn, our homes take on a whole new light. The bright, airy days of summer, when natural light flooded in, are behind us, and now our interiors begin to feel different — cosier, but perhaps in need of a refresh. Autumn's softer, cooler light can reveal tired walls and colours that no longer shine. A new coat of paint is the perfect way to breathe life into your space and get it ready for the cosy months ahead.
Warming up your interiors for the season
With the holiday season around the corner, now's the time to create a space that feels warm, inviting, and perfectly autumnal. A fresh palette can transform your home into a cosy sanctuary, and rich, nature-inspired colours are just the thing. Earthy tones like deep terracotta, forest
greens, or cinnamon shades bring warmth and depth — ideal for making your living areas the perfect retreat or for setting the scene for gatherings by the fire.
COAT’s go-to hues for the season? Darlington (grubby green), Gumption (deep brown), and Debate Club (deep greige). These shades not only evoke the richness of autumn but help create a space that feels snug and soothing, perfect for those darker, chillier evenings.
Neutrals to keep it cosy
As summer fades, the way your rooms look and feel can change, too. What worked in brighter months might now feel washed out or harsh. Opting for neutrals with warm undertones like soft taupe or creamy beige can bring a calming,
COAT Paints, Darlington
COAT Paints, Gumption
soft glow to your space without overwhelming it. They’re perfect for low light, adding warmth that feels both fresh and inviting.
Our picks? Sunday Soul (pairs beautifully with rich greens or dark wood), Pampas (great with textured neutrals), or Duvet Day (a perfect match for rust tones). These tones create a cosy foundation, keeping things light yet comforting for autumn and beyond.
Hide imperfections, highlight features
Autumn light can expose imperfections like cracks or fading paint, but it also draws attention to architectural details you might have overlooked in summer. A new coat of paint can easily mask those flaws, while carefully chosen contrasting colours can highlight features like alcoves, fireplaces, or window frames, helping you hero the seasonal charm of your home.
So, as the nights draw in and temperatures drop, maybe it’s time to put a new coat on... your walls, that is. Let the season inspire you to refresh your
space with COAT Paints, creating a home that’s as cosy as it is beautiful, and perfectly suited to autumn's mood.
For more information about COAT Paints, visit www.coatpaints.com or follow @coatpaints on Instagram.
Add layers of comfort
Feature seasonal focal points
As we head indoors, fireplaces, dining tables, and even that perfect corner for the Christmas tree become the heart of our homes. Paint these areas to draw attention and make the most of the season's shift in focus.
Just as we layer up in the cold, layer your interiors with throws, cushions, and woollen rugs. Not only do they add texture, but they complement your colour choices and elevate the 'cosy' vibe.
Embrace bold colours
Nature offers the perfect inspiration. Autumn’s rich, earthy tones are bold yet comforting, creating spaces that feel alive with seasonal energy.

THE POPULARITY OF PRIVATE CHEFS IS ON THE RISE...
Elevate your entertaining with an added hint of opulence
For most of us, as we head into the autumn and winter months, our appetite for attending, or indeed hosting gatherings and parties seemingly increases. With Christmas at the forefront and New Year on the horizon, it’s the season for entertaining.
As the host of any family and friends gathering, the organisation, coordination and catering of these events can often curtail our own enjoyment. In a post covid era where memories are as valuable as materials, a new symbol of luxury at those special occasions has come to the table… the private chef.
Over the last year the popularity of private chefs has risen exponentially. Set against the backdrop of a growing shift in culinary culture that has seen most of us become more health conscious, social media has seemingly sparked this surge. Cooking recipes are among the most popular influencer created social media content, #personalchef videos have been trending on TikTok, and celebrities’ chefs are fast becoming celebrity chefs.
In today’s fast-paced world, for busy professionals, families or anyone juggling a demanding schedule, finding the time to plan and prepare a special occasion can seem impossible. A common misconception about private
chefs is their exclusivity to athletes and celebrities, however you can elevate your occasion to the upper echelons without great expense.
A private chef offers more than just a meal. Whether it’s for intimate dinner parties or lavish events, private chefs bring the fine dining experience into your home, transforming ordinary meals into extraordinary moments. Their presence will add a hint of opulence to your entertaining ambiance, saving you time, taking the stress out of hosting and allowing you to enjoy the festivities on the day.
To find out more about hiring a private chef, we spoke with Scott Ludlow, founder of Private Chef Direct. Scott and his team have catered for many clients, including celebrities and sports stars, in Surrey, London and the surrounding areas.
Tell us a little bit more about yourself
and Private Chef Direct
My name is Scott Ludlow, the founder and chef of Private Chef Direct. I’ve always loved food and have been cooking in commercial kitchens since I was 15. It has taken me around the world, working and living in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Japan, USA, France, China and Qatar. I had two very successful restaurants which I later sold before I had the idea for Private Chef Direct around 10 years ago. I tried it out slowly and the business model worked. Then, during covid I invested heavily in the business and haven’t looked back. We now employ 20 staff which have all been hand-picked by me.
Have you noticed an increase in demand for private chefs?
Absolutely. Since starting Private Chef Direct 10 years ago it hasn’t stopped and interest has grown each year.
Why should someone hire a private chef?
Why wouldn’t you, that’s the question. We remove the stress from hosting your event. We arrive around two hours before your dining time with everything taken care of, from ingredients to equipment. We serve delicious food and leave as though we were never there.
Do you bring all of your equipment? What do you need in the house?
All we need from the client’s house is an oven, hob and a work surface. That’s it. We are a one stop shop. We bring all the cutlery, crockery, glassware, chef equipment, cleaning products, ingredients and front of house staff to serve.
Do you have a set menu, or can clients choose their cuisine?
That’s the best thing about hiring us, we cater for you… whatever your favourite dish is, we’ll make it. I’ve worked across the world and there isn’t much I can’t do, and I love a challenge. If you’re not sure or would like suggestions, we can do that too. For instance, one client had a poker and casino night at their home, so I decided to make an entirely edible roulette table of canapés.
How
much does it cost to hire a private chef?
As the event, number of guests and dining requirements can vary significantly, everything is bespoke for each client… including the price. I’ll ask you a few questions about your event and provide a bespoke menu with a set price, there’s no hidden costs.
Do you cover Surrey and south west London?
We have a lot of clients in Surrey and south west London, and regularly cater for clients in St. Georges Hill, Cobham, Oxshott, Wisley and Hersham. We cater for everyone, from private families to high profile clients including; Sam Faiers, Billie Faiers, Leigh-Anne from Little Mix, Kimberley Walsh, Cheryl Cole, Denise VanOuten, Daniel Ricciardo, Sebastian Vettel, Ferne McCann and Rachel Stevens to name a few.
