A Sixteen-Year-Old Son
Y
esterday was my son’s 16th birthday. Peyton’s the middle child and we’ve crossed these types of milestones before, but it’s still a unique experience. We’ve been his personal taxi driver for years. Sure, it gets old driving him from school to practice and then to another practice, but at the end of the day we really do enjoy it. But that is all about to change. Tomorrow he takes his driver’s test. Fingers crossed. For his birthday party, my son decided that he wanted to invite some of his friends over to the house to hang and then go out to dinner at a “fun” restaurant. We limited the number to 10 and set the location for Gen Korean BBQ – a fun all-you-can-eat restaurant in Mira Mesa where you grill your own food at the table. Peyton is now at that age where some of his friends are driving and others will be driving soon. The non-drivers loaded up into our cars and the legal drivers decided to take their own wheels to the restaurant (even though we had plenty of seats in our cars). Apparently driving more cars than needed is just what you do when you get your license. The freedom of the road. Independence! With a party of 12 (yep, mom and dad tagged along to hang out and pay the bill), we had a blast eating all types of Korean meat. Peyton’s friends gave the menu a run for its money! And the restaurant staff was great in announcing his birthday over the microphone to the entire restaurant. It was a perfect birthday dinner. The night couldn’t end without a trip to the local ice cream shop. We loaded up our caravan of cars and invaded Baskin Robbins. The kids were a bit loud and playing around in the store. Everyone was laughing and having a good time. We all ordered our treats and decided to eat in the car since it was getting late. And that’s when something special happened. An older gentleman and his wife followed us out of Baskin Robbins and knocked on my car window just before I was about to back out of the parking spot. Not knowing what he was about to say (after all, the kids were a bit of a hurricane inside Baskin Robbins), I rolled down my window and braced myself. He said, “My wife and I just wanted you to know how special it is to see two parents spending time with their kids and their friends like you are doing.” I thanked him for going out of his way to let me know their thoughts. I spent the next 20 minutes on the drive home thinking about the man’s words. The night was definitely special. And I’m thankful that he took the time to share his thoughts with me. It would have been easier for him to not knock on my window in the parking lot. But in doing so, his words encouraged me to reflect and take it all in. Thank you, sir, for going out of your way. It was a good night with good friends. Happy birthday, Peyton! Thanks for being you.

We are excited to host multiple camps for both our Biddy Ball Camps and for our Youth Camps. The Biddy Ball Camps are designed to introduce campers in grades 1 - 4 to the basics of basketball along with showing them how to have fun while working on their game. Del Norte Hoops “Youth Camps” are designed for campers in grades 5 - 8 who are looking to improve their basketball skills and overall knowledge of the game. The week will be filled with different activities that are designed to teach the campers how to play basketball the correct way. A NEW FORCE to be reckoned with Soccer in the community of 4S Ranch continues to flourish! Force FC is happy to announce their first players joining the WPSL (Women’s Premier Soccer League), Breakaway S.C. It’s a league that US National Team players such as Megan Rapinoe, Hope Solo and Alex Morgan used to further their player development before entering the National stage. “For our players, it’s an opportunity to continue providing developmental pathways for soccer players that want to elevate their game to the next level”, stated Jose Ocampo, Force Director, DNHS Varsity coach and Breakaway SC coach. With the help of the Athletic Director, Mike Gaime and a partnership with Del Norte High School, the WPSL will host their home games at the home of the Nighthawks. Force players like Christina Espinosa, Zoe Brick, Caroline Espinosa who have recently signed with Breakaway SC will be able to take advantage of their High School alma Mater as they hope to welcome a supportive crowd. “We hope to continue to work with passionate female soccer players that aim to take their talents to compete on another national level stage because I sincerely feel that in the past seven years we’ve developed players that can compete with some of the best in the country”. - Adrian Ocampo, Force Assistant Girls Director, DNHS Varsity Coach, Breakaway SC Coach

T
hese three sophomores at Del Norte High School, twins Lola and Sophie Bulkin and their friend Ellie Zeiler, created their own Instagram account last year, called the Together As One (TGAO) movement, after all three experienced prejudiced behavior from their fellow students. The site expanded into a school club and nonprofit organization, and Lola, Sophie, and Ellie have even been on a Channel 8 televised community meeting panel in which they promoted their TGAO mission. Lola said, “We thought that creating a positive and inclusive platform to spread awareness to the community would be an effective way to combat any growing hate.” Ellie shared, “By
starting TGAO, we created an outlet for teens to hear other people’s stories, no matter their culture, lifestyle, or religion.” The TGAO club meets at school twice a month, and the students are encouraged to share their ideas and experiences in a supportive environment. The attendees also do such activities as make appreciation cards and create and hang posters throughout the campus. About a month after initially forming TGAO, the Chabad of Poway shooting incident took place, which affected the girls deeply as each had ties to the temple – all three had attended its preschool. Through their TGAO platform, the girls made and sold t-shirts to raise funds for the Chabad of Poway victims. Sophie elaborated, “The t-shirts represented a message of unity, kindness, and acceptance. The support of our community showed how impactful one person’s actions could be, and how we must all stand together and embrace each other’s differences.” The girls are now working toward bringing their club and its values to other San Diego area schools, starting with Poway High School. Lola revealed, “Ultimately, we hope to spread our club to every Poway Unified School District high school and continue to grow as a movement.” Ellie said, “We’d also love to work with elementary and middle schools so we can reach kids before they get to high school, which seems to be when a lot more prejudice comes out.” Another TGAO endeavor the girls are undertaking is improving the Instagram platform by adding more videos featuring other students. Sophie exclaimed, “We are trying to express the cultural differences in our community by interviewing kids from both our school and other schools.” Ellie added, “It takes a lot of courage to tell your story and put yourself out there but once you do, you realize so many other people can relate.” When they’re not involved with TGAO, each girl keeps busy with various pursuits. Ellie volunteers by teaching golf at the Special Olympics, Lola plays soccer for her high school and for Force FC, and Sophie also plays soccer for her high school and takes rowing classes. All three plan to attend college and to continue dedicating their time to the TGAO movement for many years to come. Follow Together As One on Instagram @tgaomovement. ¢

Successful Operation
GIRL SCOUT TROOP 2356 SUPPORTS A PERSONAL CAUSE by KELLEY GUSICH
“M
y girls love it when a customer makes a donation to Operation Thin Mint, as one of them has a father in the military who has received cookies while overseas and has shared with them how special these donations are.” Robin Marsan, leader of Girl Scout Troop 2356, is talking about Girl Scout Brienna Stewart. Operation Thin Mint sends America’s favorite cookies and handwritten support notes to deployed U.S. military troops and local veterans. Girl Scouts San Diego teams up with cookie customers for this local program, developed by Girl Scouts San Diego in 2002. Since that time, generous San Diegans have donated more than three million boxes of cookies to service men and women – not just Thin Mints, but all cookie varieties! U.S. Air Force, Navy, Army, Coast Guard, Marine Corps, and National Guard personnel, current and former, receive the cookies at home and abroad, when serving in places like Afghanistan, Africa, Iraq, Japan, Korea, the South Seas, and aboard ships around the world… including an icebreaker in the Arctic Circle. Cookie purchases and additional donations are tax deductible. Troop 2356 can earn a camp reward they’ve received in the past and hope to again this season. The girls have used their cookie earnings helping people who’ve lost their homes in wildfires, donating to organizations that help animals, bringing gifts to seniors during the holidays, and for field trips and camping trips. This year a special trip is planned to go to Las Vegas and the bridge at the Hoover Dam. Learn more at www.sdgirlscouts.org. ¢

STUDIO WEST T
he Recording Arts Center at Studio West is pleased to announce that the year-long Diploma in Recording Arts program has been approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for VA funds. This means that The Recording Arts Center can continue to proudly serve veterans with the added benefit of funding support for the program. While the lack of fund support has not stopped veterans from joining the Diploma program in the past, now the Studio is able to better support a wider range of vets in starting a career in the field of audio engineering. “The approval by the VA’s office is a wonderful benefit that we are extremely pleased to offer our veteran students,” Peter Dyson, owner of Studio West, said in a recent interview. “The Diploma in
Recording Arts imparts so much useful knowledge and skill building that it has been a great way for our graduates to start a new career. That we are now able to offer it to more veterans with the support of their VA funds is amazing.” With the majority of eligible graduates and alumni using their knowledge to pursue a career, the year-long Diploma program offers a solid foundation for audio engineers. Classes are held in a worldclass studio and offer participants the chance to get hands-on experience in a professional environment. To learn more about joining the
program, with or without VA funds, please contact Todd Hunsaker, Director of Admission, at todd@StudioWest.com or 858-592-9497. More information can also be found at www.StudioWest.com. ¢

Donation Celebration
YOUNG LIBRARY PATRON GIVES BACK FOR HIS BIRTHDAY
L
ocal resident Lucas is starting his philanthropic career at an early age. For his fourth birthday, rather than receiving personal gifts, Lucas asked his friends and family to donate to the 4S Ranch Library. Thanks to their generosity, Lucas raised $400 for the library. He and his family presented the donation to the Friends of the 4S Ranch Library at the February board meeting. Board President May Lin presented Lucas with a certificate of appreciation for his contribution. Lucas’s donation will help sponsor the Friends’ many monthly and annual events and services, like the upcoming Dr. Seuss Birthday Celebration, Teen Tuesdays, Summer Reading Programs, Family Yoga, art classes, Diwali, and much more. The 4S Ranch Library is one of the five busiest libraries in the San Diego County Library system, and regular patrons like Lucas enjoy the wide variety of programs available. Friends of the 4S Ranch Library membership starts at $15 a year for individuals or families. The Friends also accept donations of fiction and non-fiction books, DVDs, Blu-Rays, CDs, games, and some other items for sale in the Book Nook. COMMUNITY STUFF
Library Book Nook Reopens The Friends of the 4S Ranch Library recently revealed a new, refurbished Book Nook, where community members can purchase new and gently used books, movies, and more to help support the library. The ribbon cutting ceremony was attended by board members, library staff, and community members, as well as San Diego County Library Director Migell Acosta and San Diego County Library Supervisor Jacqueline Ayala. “We invite the community to look for our Book Nook next time they visit the 4S Ranch Library,” said Publicity Chair Abigail Velazquez. “The Friends of the 4S Ranch Library’s goal is that most library patrons know about it so they can take advantage of the good deals while supporting their local library.” The event coincided with the Friends’ annual meeting, where the 2020 board of directors took office. Founding President Mary Karscig was also granted a special award for her service to the Friends, including more than 10 years as a board member. She plans to remain active with the organization, promoting a library expansion to better serve the growing community. Learn more at www.4sranchfol.org.
St. Michael’s School Presents Footloose St. Michael’s School students in kindergarten through eighth grade will be performing Getting to Know Footloose the Musical. The production tells the story of a teenage boy, Ren, moving from Chicago to a small farming town, where he runs into oppressive local edicts – including a ban on dancing. These strict rules are thanks to the same local preacher whose daughter Ren falls for. Ren convinces his friends to participate in a school dance competition in order to win her over and revolutionize the town. Performances will be held May 7 through 10, and tickets will be available beginning April 1 for $10 each. Find tickets at www.showtix4u.com, and learn more by contacting theater@smspoway.org.

ith growing numbers of exciting and entertaining camps to choose from, Maranatha Christian Schools’ Summer Programs are almost here! The construction of a new state-of-the-art Sports Complex is now complete, and some programs – Speed & Agility and Summer Games, for example – will utilize the new field. “In addition to the sport camps, we will have academic, cooking, art, and many more classes available for a well-rounded summer camp experience,” explained Director of Summer Enrichment Julie Elliott. “More importantly, our summer camps are open to the community.” Ages can range from kindergarten through 12th grade depending on the camp you participate in. Sport camps are taught by Maranatha’s very own varsity coaches. These coaches have led teams to multiple CIF Titles in several sports. Maranatha’s volleyball coach was named the 2017 Small Schools Coach of the Year and led the girls volleyball team to their first CIF State Title Championship. Most of the coaches have played a sport in college or at a professional level. Sport camps include Basketball Skills, Volleyball Skills, Mini Cheer, Strength & Conditioning/Speed & Agility, Sport, and Summer Games. Academic camps include English,
lunteers
and Parent Vo
S.T.E.A.M., and Math. Creative offerings include Cooking, Art, and Youth Summer Theatre Camp. The theatre campers will present two live performances of Bye Bye Birdie on the last weekend of the camp. Staff in non-athletic camps have credentials and experience in the field and with youth so they know how to make the camp fun and structured. Summer camps vary with multiple sessions and lengths of time. “Most are three-week sessions,” Elliott said, “and if you sign up for both, the length of the camp could be six weeks for those looking for a longterm camp this summer.” Registration starts March 1 with some camps offering an early-bird special. Camps are offered from June 15 to July 31 and fill up fast. Be sure to register early online and to obtain the dates for your desired camps. For ages three to six, the preschool division offers three one-week sessions that focus on Summer Olympics, Space, and S.T.E.A.M. Your child can take one week or all three in the summer school program that runs from June 8 to June 26. Maranatha stays active in the community with local events such as movie nights, Poway Days Parade, and RB Alive. Students can also volunteer in the community and receive credit hours toward their graduation. Maranatha’s goal is to be active and of service to the local community. The completion of the Sports Complex gives an opportunity to provide a venue for local soccer clubs. Maranatha Christian Schools is excited for the upcoming year. Student enrollment continues to grow, thanks to Maranatha’s focus on academics, athletics, and performing arts. The school is constantly looking towards the future, with plans to build more state-of-the-art structures like the
high school building. As one parent said, “My daughter has been attending this summer school program and has thoroughly enjoyed it. She has made a lot of friends and finds the teachers to be fun and engaging, as well as easy to learn from. She will be starting regular school next year and we have very high hopes.” Maranatha summer camps emphasize fun energy and positive outcomes for anyone looking for their ultimate camp experience in 2020! ¢

CodeREV Kids

ith the growing popularity of STEAM programs in schools, many parents are turning to technology camps to keep their students entertained and engaged during summer months. CodeREV Kids is one of Southern California’s fastest growing tech camps, and according to Founder Evan Boorman, offers the only standards-aligned summer tech program that focuses on math and science. Evan explained, “I started CodeREV to answer the question so many students have: ‘Why? Why should I learn math, science, or engineering?’ In our project-based classes and curriculum, students automatically answer these questions for themselves, since they need to learn these topic areas to create the fun and amazing projects they build and code in camp.” CodeREV offers a variety of classes for kids ages 6 to 16 to appeal to all technology-based interests. Its MathCraft program uses the popular video game Minecraft to teach math, and its Adventures in Programming class covers 3D game design. Its most popular option, Minecraft Level Design & Engineering, applies STEAM concepts to building amazing contraptions inside Minecraft. With a total of 10 different classes to choose from, there is something for everyone at CodeREV. Evan has been teaching STEAM for 17 years, has created education software, and has started education technology companies. Evan’s partner, Chief Education Innovation Officer John Stuppy, Ph.D., holds a Master’s degree in Education Technology from Stanford and a Ph.D. in Education Reform from UCLA, and has been teaching and creating curriculum for coding aligned with math for three decades. Evan and John believe that their combined 50 years of experience, coupled with the most innovative teaching approaches in technology, are critical to bringing coding into mainstream education and preparing students for their future by getting them excited about using math, logic, and science. alifornia All-Stars Cheer (CAS) began its story 19 years ago in North County San Diego. With more than 1,000 athletes throughout six locations – San Marcos, the Bay Area, Las Vegas, Ventura, Ontario, and Scottsdale, AZ – CAS has worked its way to offering the most competitive cheer program in the state of California, gaining international recognition along the way as 12-time World Champions. “All-Stars encompasses all the fun aspects about cheerleading, including dance, stunts, bonding with friends, and gaining confidence and skill through performances. Building the children from the inside out is what we do, because we focus on them as a whole,” said Tannaz Kirichkow, Owner of CAS. “Our goal is to make sure our kids gain a strong sense of self-confidence that will carry on for the rest of their lives.” CAS offers tumbling camps in the summer, which focus on tumbling techniques for beginner, intermediate, and advanced levels. The camps can last two or three days and are three hours per day. Camps are open to both boys and girls. CAS provides a sense of work ethic and life lessons in each of its classes, including a sense of bonding and camaraderie for cheerleaders who travel to national and international competitions. “People come to California All-Stars for top-quality coaching and family atmosphere,” explained Tannaz. “Life lessons, core values, and athletic excellence come hand-in-hand. We love to see our kids succeed on and off the floor!” With a trained and energetic staff, spacious gym, and professional instruction, CAS has something for every budding cheerleader out there! Tryouts for new teams will be held May 13, 14, and 16, and students should preferably be there all three days. The tryout process determines team placement. Outpost Summer Camps
O
utpost Summer Camps provides valuable opportunities for children to connect with each other face to face and away from screens. Founded in 2001, the camp serves over 1,500 children every summer completely outdoors and unplugged. The Outpost experience has three pillars that parents have loved for 18 summers: nature, fun, and exceptional staff! Nature is the vehicle through which children get to play collaboratively and creatively. Fun is experienced on a surface level through exciting games and on a deeper level through a sense of belonging and community. Exceptional staff lead small, consistent groups with a focus on friendships, special traditions, and an inclusive culture. Door-to-door transportation is included in the program fee and available to most families. Outpost serves children ages 3 to 14, and according to Dr. Kelly Jones, the camp’s owner and director: “Each of our camps has exciting, age-appropriate activities, and all share in the philosophy of creative, spontaneous adventures facilitated by the counselors and campers.” The three-week sessions and small, consistent groups are what make Outpost so impactful. Dr. Kelly explained, “By staying longer at camp, children of all temperaments have enough time to learn names, get comfortable with routines, and make and keep new friends.” The camps also stand out with their commitment to safety. Outpost Summer Camps has been continuously accredited by the American Camp Association since inception and operates under permit from the County of San Diego as an Organized Camp. Dr. Kelly, a clinical psychologist, and her husband Stuart bring years of child development experience to Outpost. Additionally, the duo hires, trains, and retains their director team from their best counselors, who have invested 10 to 15 years at the camps and are specialized in their programs. F
or Daniel Kim, the owner of EDU Learning Center, the motivation to establish a comprehensive after-school program came from a desire to support working parents and offer a place where the needs of both children and parents are met in the areas of academics and physical education. “I was also motivated to improve the after-school environment by centering our programs on our mind, body, and character concept. Our programs strive to teach academic excellence, enhance emotional and physical well-being, and build character within a safe and caring environment,” explained Kim. EDU Learning Center offers after-school care for students in grades TK though eight that includes homework assistance, academic tutoring, GATE test prep, as well as classes in Foreign Languages (Korean, Russian, and Spanish), Music, Dance, Rhythmic Gymnastics, Tae Kwon Do, Fencing, Chess, and Fine Arts. Transportation is provided from students’ schools to the EDU Learning Center facility in Rancho Bernardo. Classes are offered year-round and special camps, seminars, and sessions are held during non-student days and holidays. EDU Learning Center also has an exciting Summer Camp, providing full day and short day options for children of all ages. Kim, who studied mechanical engineering at San Diego State University and is a fifth degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do, credits both his academic experiences and those in martial arts for his dedication to helping children and their parents. “The passion, guidance, and leadership I acquired from martial arts allowed me to excel in teaching and granted me the opportunity to work with children in the afterschool environment,” stated Kim. In addition to directing all programs at EDU Learning Center, Kim is the main training instructor for the Tae Kwon Do program. Kim is proud that all instructors and staff at EDU Learning Center 46 • 92127MAGAZINE.COM • March | April 2020

share his passion for working with children and are highly qualified in their areas of instruction. From the time he was young, Kim realized the sacrifices that parents make to provide afterschool enrichment activities for their children. He especially noted how difficult it can be for working parents to drive their students from school to various activities throughout San Diego County. “EDU Learning Center is a place for students to discover their true talents and explore their interests through enrichment activities that are offered in one convenient location. This unity between our programs and activities also allows close bonds to be established among staff, students, and families,” said Kim. EDU Learning Center will be having a Summer Camp from June 15 to Aug. 14, where students will have opportunities to visit local attractions around San Diego County, participate in outdoor/indoor sport activities, maintain or advance their academic skills, and explore new enrichment courses that are not offered during the school year such as cooking, wood shop, C.A.D and C.A.M (Computer Aid Design/Manufacturing), and STEAM-based workshops. The camp offers great flexibility with students’ summer schedules as the programs are offered the entire camp session with new topics and projects introduced weekly. The programs aim to keep students active, stay prepared or ahead in academics, and explore new interests all while having fun and making friends! ¢

Technical Team-Up
STUDENTS COLLABORATE FOR ROBOTICS COMPETITIONS
L
ocal FIRST Robotics students celebrated a number of successes late last year, winning multiple awards with their competitive robot. Mechanical Advantage Team 16884 finished in first place at the Dec. 7 Tucson, AZ FIRST Tech Challenge Qualifier, along with alliance partner The ROBO Warriors Team 15652. Mechanical Advantage also received the Control Award for programming. Their performance at this event earned them the chance to compete in the Arizona State Championship in Flagstaff, AZ in February. The team then closed out the year at the Central Phoenix Qualifying Tournament in Phoenix, AZ on Dec. 21, earning the first place Design Award and second place Connect Award. These awards
were hard-fought, and Mechanical Advantage had to overcome a major electrical failure during the event. Mechanical Advantage includes team members from multiple local schools: Rohan Bosworth and Madalyn Nguyen from Poway High School; Manjusri Gobiraj, Kaila Rosing, and Christina Schierbeck from Scripps Ranch High School; P.J. Wetherell and Reily Hopkins from Westview High School; Rohin Sood from Oak Valley Middle School; and Arya Bosworth from Black Mountain Middle School. Rohan, Madalyn, and P.J. serve as team captains, and this was the team’s first competitive year in the FIRST Tech Challenge. In addition to competing, Mechanical Advantage mentors younger FIRST Robotics teams, volunteers, and collaborates with sister organization Team Spyder 1622. R E A L E S TAT E W AT C H
Tax-Deferred Exchange by SCOTT VOAK
S
o, you have a property that you’re tired of but have a lot of profit in and don’t want to pay taxes. While you can take out a loan tax-free, selling the property triggers capital gains taxes – as well as depreciation clawback (you have to pay taxes on all the depreciation write-offs you took while you owned the property). But if you can find another property to invest in, you can do a tax-deferred exchange, more commonly called a 1031 Exchange or just a 1031. A 1031 allows you to sell one property and purchase another without paying capital gains taxes. There are lots of rules, and if you are interested, I would be happy to recommend an advisor (called an Exchange Accommodator) for you, but here are some basics: • You cannot take possession of the proceeds of the sale. They have to go to the Accommodator. • You have 45 days after you close your sale to identify up to three properties (or more, as long as the total value is less than 200% of the property you sold).
• The purchase of the new property must be completed within 180 days of the sale of the first property. • You may purchase more than one property, and you have to reinvest 100% of the proceeds from the sale, or you will owe taxes on the amount not reinvested. There is also a way to exchange an investment property for a property that you then convert into a primary residence. However, this takes some time and must be done with the help of a qualified professional. ¢

BEAUTIFUL BUTTERFLIES Reunite With Nature This Spring by SAMANTHA EDWARDS
W
ith the early vernal equinox this year (March 19), signs of spring are beginning to emerge in San Diego. You might notice the days getting slightly longer, flowers blooming from the earth, and animals and insects becoming more active – including butterflies! We’ve rounded up a few fun ways to learn more about these colorful creatures and welcome the official arrival of the season. ¢
BUTTERFLY JUNGLE March 21 – May 10 Open daily, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. This popular exhibit at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park is a magical experience for children and adults alike. Get up close and personal as thousands of dazzling butterflies flit, float, and flutter around you inside the tropical jungle habitat. Visitors wearing bright colors may even find a butterfly perching on them! www.sdzsafaripark.org
GARDENING FOR BUTTERFLIES
ANNUAL BUTTERFLY RELEASE
April 4 11 a.m. – 2 p.m.
May 23 10 a.m. – 3 p.m.
Butterfly Farms is a nonprofit in Encinitas that focuses on native butterfly education, conservation, and research. Their free-flight butterfly vivarium is open to the public every day from April through November, and they also host a variety of events throughout the year. Learn from butterfly gardening experts about how to create a garden habitat for butterflies and other pollinators in their Butterfly Gardening 101 workshop on April 4.
With plenty of nectar-rich plants and hiding spots within the rocks, Balboa Park’s Zoro Garden (also called Butterfly Garden) is the perfect place for caterpillars to safely complete their life cycle into butterflies. Each year, Friends of Balboa Park has been celebrating the beginning of spring with the Butterfly Release, bringing in 400 live painted lady butterflies to encourage pollination throughout the park. Mark your calendars for this fun and free event!
