COMMUNITY STUFF
Library Book Nook Reopens The Friends of the 4S Ranch Library recently revealed a new, refurbished Book Nook, where community members can purchase new and gently used books, movies, and more to help support the library. The ribbon cutting ceremony was attended by board members, library staff, and community members, as well as San Diego County Library Director Migell Acosta and San Diego County Library Supervisor Jacqueline Ayala. “We invite the community to look for our Book Nook next time they visit the 4S Ranch Library,” said Publicity Chair Abigail Velazquez. “The Friends of the 4S Ranch Library’s goal is that most library patrons know about it so they can take advantage of the good deals while supporting their local library.” The event coincided with the Friends’ annual meeting, where the 2020 board of directors took office. Founding President Mary Karscig was also granted a special award for her service to the Friends, including more than 10 years as a board member. She plans to remain active with the organization, promoting a library expansion to better serve the growing community. Learn more at www.4sranchfol.org.
St. Michael’s School Presents Footloose St. Michael’s School students in kindergarten through eighth grade will be performing Getting to Know Footloose the Musical. The production tells the story of a teenage boy, Ren, moving from Chicago to a small farming town, where he runs into oppressive local edicts – including a ban on dancing. These strict rules are thanks to the same local preacher whose daughter Ren falls for. Ren convinces his friends to participate in a school dance competition in order to win her over and revolutionize the town. Performances will be held May 7 through 10, and tickets will be available beginning April 1 for $10 each. Find tickets at www.showtix4u.com, and learn more by contacting theater@smspoway.org.
