ditchling Players: Quartet Ditchling Village Hall

Our autumn production is ‘Quartet’ by Ronald Harwood. Based in a retirement home for opera singers, the lives of 3 of the residents - Reggie; Wilf & Cissy - are turned upside down on the arrival of a newcomer, Jean, who also happens to be Reggie’s ex-wife. During the course of Ronald Harwood’s play we find out more about the lives of the four characters – sometimes poignant and sometimes humorous - whilst they make their plans for a concert to celebrate Verdi’s birthday. Tickets are £7.00 (Wednesday) and £8.00 (Thursday to Saturday) and are available from Clifford Dann, High Street, Ditchling. Tel: 01273 843344 or on the door.

sewing for hospices Made and Making, The Workroom, Unit 3 Turner Dumbrells, Dumbrell Court Road, Ditchling, BN6 8GT Come and join us to sew for hospices. We are providing simple sewn bags to St Catherines Hospice in Crawley and St Michaels Hospice in Hastings. The bags are given to patients for a variety of reasons: some help with the continual administering of drugs and others help store emergency supplies. This will be a great way to do something to help someone. There’s no money involved, just a little time. Each bag will be finished with a nametag saying that you made it and hopefully a little message from you too. Machines and materials will be supplied on the day together with tea, coffee and biscuits to keep the energy levels high and the machines busy. (If you do have any spare fabrics from a stash at home that you may be prepared to donate please do bring that along too, it will be very welcome). The first target is to provide 100 bags to each hospice. Contact Sarah@madeandmaking, 07967 819540 www.facebook.com/ madeandmaking or visit www. madeandmaking.co.uk/sewingforhospices.

talking heads by alan bennett Players Theatre, 147 High Street, Hurstpierpoint, BN6 9PU Hurstpierpoint Players present Talking Heads by Alan Bennett. Alan Bennett is well known for the delightful way he combines a deep understanding of human emotions with some of the funniest lines ever written. These stories are no exception, the suburban normality of the world his characters inhabit belies their lives of secrets, revelations, fears, crimes and passions. They tell their stories, and in doing so reveal more than they know of the humour, passion and sadness of their lives.
