Shops & businesses are struggling following the Angel Inn fire

In recent weeks, Midhurst’s shops, cafes, and restaurants have experienced a significant drop in earnings, with some reporting losses of up to 80% since the closure of the A286 following the fire at the Angel Inn. The façade of the hotel is the only part left standing, and it has been temporarily stabilised to prevent collapse. The main road through the town is still closed to traffic, and, at the time of press, there is no re-opening in sight.

Many people are questioning whether preserving the facade is worth the serious damage being done to the town’s economy and the inconvenience to those living in and around Midhurst.

In the meantime, traders want to let it be known that Midhurst is open for business, despite appearances to the contrary. Both car parks are open - one at each end of the town - and it is possible to navigate the high street on foot.

Here are just some of the independent traders who are still very much open for business. There are many more along with superb range of eateries so do pay a visit to this lovely town and tell your friends! Sussex Local hasn’t charged for this feature. All images © www.christopherison.com
