The “coffee and chat” social group sessions held at The Red Lion, and run in association with AgeUK, continue to be a success. For those that have attended, there have been new friendships made. Undoubtedly these meet ups have been vital for social interaction and the mental wellbeing of our older village residents. £2 per session (unlimited tea/coffee), the next sessions will be 1.30-3pm, 13th February and 13th March.
Ashington youth club
The club continues to go from strength to strength, with an additional session recently added due to increased youth attendance. Hard work from the Youth Workers and volunteers has ensured a range of fun and engaging events and activities for the youth. Fund raising, grants and sponsorship has meant the club have been able to look to being more sustainable - they have proposed a reduction of approx. 23% in the financial support for Youth Worker costs required from the Parish Council in the coming year.
The Parish yard
One of the only income streams for the PC, we are keen to move the development of this site forward asap, to ensure the precept stays low, and so that we have sufficient income that we don’t need to eat into reserves earmarked for other expenditure. Currently we are obtaining quotes for clearance and basic surface levelling to enable rental for commercial use.
“Land west of Ashington School”
Bellway Homes held a public consultation regarding this development in early December. The PC will discuss the revised proposals at their January public meeting, although at a preconsultation viewing, Councillors did raise with Bellway that there were still significant deviations from the Neighbourhood Plan. Bellway will be looking to submit a planning application in early 2023, having taken into consideration the Parish Council’s comments and feedback from the public.
