Increase your capacity to create a more sustainable future

SUSTAINABILITY RESULTS Graduates walk away with an increase in their personal and professional leadership effectiveness; an impressive network and great friends; a new level of understanding, clarity and purpose; and tangible results within their lives and through the sustainability projects they’ve started or grown. • Miyuki Jokirant, radio maker and linguist, created a sustainability arts organisation and annual arts festival. • Erin Cini, environmental engineer, started a peak body for young engineering professionals to lobby for sustainable infrastructure. • Matt Perry, ad man turned ethical entrepreneur, created the successful sustainability agency, Republic of Everyone. • Eyal Halamish, management consultant, teamed with Mathew Gordon, public servant, and Lihn Do, university student, to create a web platform for young people to influence Australian decision makers. The Fellowship Program gave our team the skills and networks we needed to realise our vision for young people to engage with and influence Australia’s decision makers. The new thinking, collaborative attitude and engagement in the challenge shared by Fellowship Program graduates have expanded our ability to create real and meaningful change in the world. Centre for Sustainability Leadership Fellowship Program 2011 Program Overview

Grow your social and cultural footprint in 2011. Once a year the Centre for Sustainability Leadership runs Fellowship Programs in Melbourne and Sydney for up to 26 ambitious, sustainability change makers in each city. This is a unique training opportunity where selected individuals develop the skills, networks and knowledge needed to be more effective in forging a sustainable future. The 7-month evening and retreat-based program is packed full of practical, immersive and challenging thinking and activities designed to grow each Fellow’s capacity to influence positive change in their areas of passion.

CORE COMPETENCIES • Philosophy of leadership: gain an improved understanding of key moral and philosophical aspects related to leadership • Sustainability leadership: understand the success and diversity of the world’s most effective sustainability leaders and develop a vision and plan for yourself as a sustainability leader • Dynamics of change: understand different theories of change, their application and relevance in sustainability • Thinking strategically: develop strategic thinking capacity

Due to the Fellowship Program I’m now aiming higher than ever before. Melissa Crotty

• Making things happen: develop, implement, evaluate and learn from practical sustainability initiatives • Communications and advocacy: make a positive impact with presentations and utilise the media to convey effective sustainability messages

THE FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM EXPERIENCE

• Emotional intelligence: understand yourself and others and optimise interpersonal relationships

Throughout the seven-month program from May to November 2011, our fellows participate in weekly evening workshops, weekend retreats, develop sustainability projects and networking opportunities.

• Teamwork and relationship building: build interpersonal skills to improve relationships and maximise collaborative team outcomes

They also receive individually tailored support through our coaching and mentoring programs and enjoy ongoing peer-to-peer learning and community building through our online platform and forums.

• Creative thinking: build capacity to tackle challenges and find creative solutions

The Fellowship Program curriculum is underpinned by key competencies that we have identified as fundamental skills for successfully addressing the challenges faced by those leaders who are striving to create a sustainable future.

• Personal development and self-inquiry: indentify the personal strengths and weaknesses that underpin your unique leadership style; create and execute strategies to build your leadership capacity • Personal effectiveness: effectively manage time, prioritise competing demands and maximise wellbeing

The support, encouragement and inspiration I’ve gained through the Fellowship Program have put me on the path to creating the mainstream behavioural change I’ve long hoped for.
