01 A truly international education experience
OUR PROMISE The School of Hospitality, Tourism & Culinary Arts at KDU University College fervently believes that to be at the top, you have to start at the top, which is why the school is the only one in Malaysia that offers a complete Swiss experience through its collaboration with IMI University Centre from Lucerne, Switzerland. After all, Switzerland is the birthplace of hospitality and tourism; hence, where better to learn all about the industry than from the masters themselves? A great feature in our hospitality and tourism management programmes is the industrial training practicum, where our students get the chance to pick and choose the cream of the crop from hotels, airlines to travel companies for their industrial training experience. Challenges facilitate learning, and we strongly believe in hands-on learning, especially in an industry like this. The school is also internationally recognised – it garnered the World Association of Chefs Societies (WACS) Recognition of Quality Culinary Education as well as well as accreditation from the International Centre of Excellence in Tourism and Hospitality Education (THEICE) as an Associate Member. Throughout the years, the school remains in close rapport with not only its industrial partners, but also its students and staff. The school is also under constant review with leading industry members who form its advisory board, ensuring compliance with the best practices. As such, the School of Hospitality, Tourism & Culinary Arts graduates are employed as highly regarded specialists in renowned hotels and service related industries all over the world, and will remain to be so.

Graduate of 1991 Director of Communications, KULAI Group
Graduate of 2009, Valedictorian IMI Bachelor of Arts in International Hotel & Tourism Management (1st Class Honours) Assistant Bar Manager Shangri-La Hotel, Kuala Lumpur
Graduate of 2002 Director, Talent Development Greater China & Mongolia
Of her experience in KDU, Shirley recalls, “It is best remembered for how it nurtured me; I learnt discipline, self-reliance and decision-making. The extensive practical experience gained, complemented theory well and gave me truthful insights into the industry. Four years ago, I became the first hotelier to be accredited by IPRM. The KDU experience has well prepared me for my present position. To young aspirants in my field, I would advise them to develop consistency in their effort, determination and an ability to learn from failures. Mental strength goes a long way; thank you, KDU.”
Amanda is living her dreams as a professional bartender and recently became the first Malaysian girl and the only other lady out of 24 finalists, to compete at the Diageo Reserve World Class Finals 2010 held in Athens. This spunky lass knew what she wanted to do in life and pursued it endlessly. Not one to take “No” for an answer, Amanda shared, “I had to prove myself. That’s why the Diageo Reserve World Class Competition means a lot to me, because it proves that bartending is a real job, at many professional levels. It took a lot of perseverance, focus and hard work to reach this stage. But it has been a tremendous achievement so far, and I am so very excited about what lies ahead!”
I pursued my Diploma in Hotel and Catering Management from year 2000 to 2002 in KDU. There were many sweet memories on my mind until today. From being selected as class representative to being awarded the KDU Scholarship, I must say I was given an equal chance with all international and local students. The study environment in KDU was safe and healthy. As for the learning journey, from class room studies to practical training in kitchens, it was an unforgettable experience as we get the real taste of the hospitality industry. With all these beneficial learnings, the school has taught us to have an attitude and aptitude to explore our career life. Start and choose your learning journey with KDU.
