WEEK 07 ACTIVITY: ‘OFF CAMPUS’ 640423
SITE 1 PROJECT “LIVING CARLTON” Project “Living Carlton” is a private housing unit requiering 1000 precast concrete panels for its construction.
The site was at its early stage of construction. It was fenced off and the excavator was clearing out the site. It was digging out the ground levels whilest the supporting poles were created and fixed with metal cages.
The ground consisted of rocks, which were crushed by an excavator to progress with construction.
This stage of construction included the making of poles which were dug out of the ground to elevate the superstructure above the ground. Metal cage with included drainage supported the structure.
SITE 2 “CARLTON WELLBEING CENTRE” Located at Rathdowne street, this multi level age care facility is designed to care for elderly. It is a 24 hour care with 165 single bedrooms, loungerooms and kitchenettes. Hi-tech innovations include sensible lighting that guides the resident s to their bathrooms at night and smart bedding that costs $4,000 for each bed. Plan and photographic imagery of the progress of building of the centre at the site manager’s office.
SHOWROOM Showroom was rebuilt twice and there are still changes to be made. Wall sockets will change, the ceiling will be raised by 200 mm( this is because the room is located in the basement and the builders were constraint by the height of the ceiling there)
Built-in mechanism in both the shower and bedroom to allow easier transportation of the residents
Remarks, both photographic and written, show the changes to be done to original bedrooms.
Nowhere, including the shower, there are sairs to be build. This is to protect the elderly from injuries.
Isolated ventilation.
Undeground levels are almost complete and the site is at stage of working on the top levels.
In case of power outburst, there is a powerfull backup generator on site. The cost of this was rounded to $84,000.
Plumbing facilities were complete with the main control point on the bottom level of the building.
Expensive electronic sheating for better sound isolation.
Combination of in situ and precast concrete used for balconies.
Fire resistant(pink) and plasterboard for wet areas(green) are used in construction.
Top levels of the building are metal studs and plasterboard on typical slabs.
CONSTRUCTION OF TOP LEVELS
The ceiling is raised up and the level is ready for placing of supporting walls, which will allow construction to move further.
Support poles installed to support the ceiling. Plumbing, electricity, ventilation installed and rooms are marked for the studs to be built.
Metal studs are built. The bedrooms and corridor are now defined for plasterboard sheating.
This is the almost done bedroom. Sheating has been completed and window installed. Also the supporting mechanism for the smart bed is in place.
For safety reasons, most of the building sites now have replaced ledders for this raising platforms.
Big industrial crane was used for works on the site. Materials, such as precast concrete panels, metal studs, in situ concrete, plasterboard, etc, were transported with ease on the top levels
The building is a 10 level construction, with 4 undeground levels and 6 levels above the ground.
