Week Two: Activity “Frame”
After sketching, our tower was to consist of triangle shapes, as triangle is the only stable form in construction.
Proposed diagram for the design which we slightly manipulated.
Without the bracing our frame was falling apart and members of the group had to hold it to ensure the glue of the base triangle will glue the frame to it.
Bracing needed to be done in order to prevent the tower to collapse. We thought about long braces, but then decided to economy some material and cut it into smaller peices.
To make the trianle even more stable, we decided to brace it too/
We got the frrame using bracing construction.
Small pieces of timber were glued on the frame of balsa wood tower.
Frame was coming into shape. We omly needeed to add more braces to hold it intact.
More braces added along the way
Bottom bit with bracing.
Everything was used to brace the tower. Even the spiral from the workbook.
And for the top, as we were running out of time and material, we did not use as much bracing as we should have.
The bottom piece of our tower. Both pieces we had we made on the table and then it was just the matter of gluing them tofether.
Therefore the top was slightly tilted on one side.
Activiti “Frame taught us the importance of bracing in construction.
