FOREWORD I am sure I am not the only one to feel this but this academic year seems to be going by very quickly. SVP never rests there is always something happening. Celebrations, sporting events competitions, exams it is non stop. Recently, I had an opportunity to speak to all the grade 12 students to find out a little bit about who there are, their aspirations and advice they may now have for the up and coming high school students and advice for the school. This was a rare insight into the minds of teenage students and I have to say I was impressed. One of the key themes the students resonated with was their preparation for the final two years. For many the skills of self management were not highly developed and as such assignments were put off and only a little attention was paid to their studies especially in grade 10 and 11. The result of this procrastination was a sudden and huge workload that overwhelmed many of them. When I asked what piece of advice would they have for next year’s grade 11 75% of the students indicated that they would advise their fellow students not to procrastinate and to take their studies seriously. The advice the students had for the school was also worthwhile and will help us as we continue to improve the school. I am going to once again talk about school fees and I know the vast majority of parents pay their fees on time and many in advance. However, we still have a core group of parents that are not meeting their responsibility and ensuring the fees are paid on time. As I have stated previously, the only source of income the school has to pay all its commitments is via the school fees. It is the school fees that pay the teacher’s salary.
We need the money from the fees to ensure we meet our commitment to teachers to be paid on time. Unfortunately, we are going to have to once again ask parents that have not met their commitment to pay their fees to keep their children at home. As a school we do not like doing this, it impacts the children’s education however this seems to be the only action that will stimulate some parents to actually pay their fees on time. We have a number of places available for the new academic year in the ECE. I do not understand why this is the case. In May we will officially launch our Outdoor Learning Centre - the most comprehensive outdoor facility in Indonesia. Ibu Maria and I have worked extremely hard to design a leading 21st century facility that will provide the ECE students in particular with the opportunities many schools around the world can only dream of, my only regret is that my own children did not have an opportunity to experience this type of education. We are super excited to launch the centre and the parents of ECE can be reassured their children will have an unique experience no other school in Indonesia can offer. April is the final month our Grade 12 Diploma students have to study and really reinforce their understanding of their subjects; the Diploma exams begin early May and the schedule for the exams is quite daunting. I hope all our students are taking advantage of the time they have to take notes of the key points of their subject. I hope they are making sure they get plenty of rest so that they are fresh and ready to learn. I hope the students are drinking plenty of water to hydrate their brain and they are also conscious of healthy eating during this period. Steven Thompson

Storytelling with WWF Indonesia Early Years 2 students have been learning about how plants sustain life on Earth and play a role in our lives in the ‘Sharing the Planet’ unit of inquiry, not only the plants around them, but also all the plants on Earth. WWF-Indonesia helped EY 2 students to learn more about the importance of the forests on Earth. Storytelling is a great technique to convey a message that we want to share to children. The atmosphere of learning in a fun way makes the children relaxed and comfortable. WWF Indonesia used the storytelling technique to deliver a message about the importance of caring for the forest and our nature. On Friday, 15 March 2019, we invited Kak Ryan, a story teller from WWF Indonesia, to tell a story about the forest. Kak Ryan told the story expressively. He told the story by using his favorite guitar and also some dolls as props in telling the story. What is a forest? Why are forests important for us? What role do they play on Earth? Should we worry about their future? Those were the provocaPon quesPons for the students to get them to think about forests and what’s behind them. Through the storytelling by WWF-Indonesia the students learned that forests provide many of our needs: from water, air and healthy soil to food and a home for animals and humans. The students were a l s o i nt ro d u c e d to s o m e conservaPon projects that WWF Indonesia is working on. It was really great to see how the EY2 s t u d e n t s s h o w e d t h e i r e nt h u s i a s m a n d e m p at hy towards nature. -Ibu Merly-

Nursery’s Monthly Assembly On Thursday, March 21, 2019, Nursery students had their second monthly assembly. At this event, the parents were invited to see the progress of their children. The aim of this programme is to give opportunities for the children to build their confidence and to encourage them to be risk-takers. On the beautiful Thursday morning, we welcomed the parents to join our morning circle time and they witnessed how their child shared responsibility in turns, to have the morning routines done. One of the students helped his/her teacher lead the prayer, one of them had the attendance board checked and counted how many students were at school, and one of them set the calendar. Through this experience, the students learnt public speaking,

This was different from last month when the Nursery students had a singing performance, this time they had a drawing activity. On this day the parents were actively involved as their child had them guide him/her to draw a farm animal, which was a chick; in relation to our transdisciplinary theme, sharing the planet, where students had learnt to identify three types of animals prior to this activity. They improved not only their communication but also their fine motor skills as these little learners drew two dimensional shapes such as circles, triangles and ovals to form an animal picture. After having fun together, the students were all excited to take the drawing home. Thank you parents for your wonderful support and see you again next time. -Ibu Gita -

Our Toddler excursion to Fauna Land Ancol According to Mundell, animals loom large in children’s imaginations – from their heartfelt attachment to stuffed toys, to passionate dinosaur obsessions, to a fondness for characters like Big Bird, Peppa Pig or Maisy Mouse.
MARCH 2019
At school the toddlers had the opportunity to observe and interact with some of the petting animals such as turtles, fish, rabbits, chicks and ants. While on Friday, 1 March 2019 our toddlers had another opportunity to observe more animals. They visited Faunaland Ancol with their mommy or daddy. There were a lot of animals there. The first animals that they observed were panthers, tapirs, bekantan and birds. Those animals were wild and kept in a cage. Thus, the children only could see them out of the window. Next, the children went to the birds area to observe and interact with the cockatoos. There, they were allowed to touch and take a picture with the animals so they really took the opportunity to capture the moment excitedly. After visiting the birds then they went to feed the animals. There were lions, ponies, goats, donkeys and

turtles. The lions were so big and amazing. Each child received a piece of chicken to be given to the lions. They gave the meat through the hole provided in the window. Furthermore they also got some carrots for the other animals like the ponies, goats, donkeys and turtles.
https://www.zoo.org.au/news/why-the-zoo-is-goodfor-young-minds Our Toddler’s recent unit of inquiry was “How the World Works”, with the central idea “Animals and plants play different roles in our Lives”. In this unit they were introduced to various kinds of animals.
The last activity of the day was watching the bird show. The children and parents were gathering in a big garden. The zoo keeper from Fauna Land opened the show by introducing the name, explained the birds origin and the birds skills. Then they asked the birds to do some activities such as flying here and there and catching the food. The zoo keeper also encouraged the children to take part in the show by giving the birds some fruit and calling the birds name. The show was really entertaining. The excursion was ran successfully. Both the children and the parents were so happy and satisfied with the activities done in Fauna Land. We will see you in the next excursion toddlers. Written by. Harviarini (Toddler teacher)

POI : Unit 5 Expert Person : Bpk. Handoko. Our fifth unit of inquiry had the central idea “ physical geography determines the way it is explored and where settlement can be established”. Our grade 3 students had a fun experience of learning with an expert figure who has a lot of experience in building and modifying settlements. Students were excited when they saw the first appearance of the Kemang Pratama physical geography, They were amazed because the students thought that Kemang Pratama’s physical geography had always been the same. Students also involved themselves in a deep discussion with our expert about the equipment used to change the physical geography of Kemang Pratama. Some students thought it would have been impossible to change the swamp area into a solid land area. During the presentation Bapak Handoko asked the students to be risk takers by identifying the names of places or Islands that they saw on the ppt (Indonesia physical geography) and challenged the students to visit some sites of the physical geography of Kemang Pratama which have changed, especially the OLC (outdoor learning center) area. Finally the presentation gave a deep understanding to the students about the importance of knowing the geographical features and how we should explore and modify them to create a settlement based on our needs (community).

1819 SVP Grade 5 Immersion Program Immersion Program is one of our holistic learning experiences. The learners are required to really experience all the learning aspects in this program. In other words, they feel and witness real-life lessons that are provided by the places they visited. This year’s Grade 5 Immersion Program took place in Jatim (East Java). We visited Malang, Surabaya and Madura in a 5 day trip. The trip started on March 25th at Halim Perdana Kusuma Airport and ended on March 29th 2019 at school. The journey started with a cultural visit to Batu Malang. It is one of the distinguished cities in Indonesia. The city has its own value with many elements of culture. The local people played traditional music and danced to welcome the students. They spent a night in a local house to feel the real atmosphere of the village. On the next day, the agricultural program in Batu gave us plenty of information about how to cultivate the famous apples which is the signature product
of the area and other fruit and vegetables. The students enjoyed all the activities and learned more about culture and farming. Jatim Park 2 (Batu Secret Zoo) animal’s collection made the students amazed. The students were in awe and excited to see the varied species from all over the world as well as pre-historic specimens. They saw amazing creatures with their own eyes. It made them realize that God had created all of those for us to be preserved and balanced. Later in the afternoon we visited the Museum Angkut (transportation) to discover the history and view the collection of the different kinds of transportation.
nothing’s impossible. It also showed that dreams can come true and creativity inspires innovation. Museum Tubuh showed an enlarged version of the human body and gave great advice on how to take care of our body. It was really a very close and detailed version of human organs. It made them aware of their body’s health. Visiting a different place made us wonder about the history of the place. This curiosity was answered in Malang Museum Inggil (History of Malang). Many details which was told are simple yet meaningful. They range from how Malang people called them “Wong Ngalam” until how Aremania support their football team. Museum Kapal Selam (Submarine) is an old Indonesian submarine that turned into a very eye catchy place for a museum. The students experienced how it felt to be in a deep-sea machine as well as making them proud of their Indonesian heritage. They learned how Indonesia defends
the sea and technology behind it. Lunch break of the day were held in Madura, another unique city that is located in eastern Surabaya. Traditional food was served as well as the famous Batik collection of Madura was on display. Overall, the Immersion program was a valuable learning source in many ways. It obviously trained the students to be more respectful and responsible in terms of behaviour as well as more knowledgeable in dynamic and fun ways. -Pak Cepi-
Seeing how humans have developed and advanced technology in transportation made the students realise that

The Excursion to Waduk Jatiluhur in Purwakarta
multi-purpose embankment dam of Jatiluhur.
"Academic activities inside the classroom provide structure, limits, and authority to focus student attention. However, excursions give entirely different learning experiences that are more exciting, deeper than the regular school environment affords.
The objective of this visit is to deliver a real life situation context, which provides the opportunity for the students to identify the types and mitigation of natural disasters through education, local wisdom, and the use of modern technology to the students from Geography and Physics units they are studying at school.
Excursions that form a part of the school curriculum are very valuable as they provide the students the opportunity of learning through visits, close interactions with peers that students enjoy so much, and a chance for the teacher to observe and interact with the student in a different environment that is more informal than the classroom. These visits have been proven to emphasize the attentive mind, enabling sense of discovery, and increase the chances of learners retaining what is being taught in the classroom. With this notion in mind, Grade 11 National Program teachers planned and organised an excursion to Waduk Jatiluhur in Purwakarta, on Tuesday, 19 March 2019, to observe the hydro-power plant site and the

Olimpiade Sains Tingkat Kota Bekasi As stated in our school mission, we agree to educate the students to achieve their maximum academic potential. One of the actions is by giving an opportunity for all students to join various external competitions where they can deepen their intrinsic motivation, strengthening academic self-concept, and using the result as a benchmark to set a base of personal academic improvement. One of the well known government based competitions is the Indonesia National Science Olympiad or known as OSN (Olimpiade Tingkat Nasional). To be eligible for the national competition, students should pass 2 preliminary competitions. The first preliminary competition is in Kota Bekasi. In total there were 1.500 high school students participating

World Book Day Celebration 2019 World Book Day was celebrated during 4th - 15th March 2019 by the students of Sekolah Victory Plus. It was a chance to read for pleasure, share books, take part in activities during the library time, attend a book fair and participate in the book characters costume day. The ECE students enjoyed the story of Mr. Happy from Mr. Men series book. There was laughter, happiness and smiles from them while listening to the story. The activity continued when they needed to draw themselves as characters based on Mr. Men and Little Miss books. Grade 1 - 3 students had so much fun making a bookmark. The variety of genres that were shown in the bookmarks reflected the wide reading preferences from the students and the results displayed the student’s creativity and enthusiasm during the creation process. We are going to exchange the bookmarks with the students of Sekolah Bogor Raya. During the last day of the celebration, the whole school really enjoyed the Book character costume day. The ECE students were fantastic and full of confidence during the parade. Despite it being optional for the primary and secondary students to join the occasion, we were very happy and surprised to see the flocks of students who came to school and participated by wearing their favorite book character costume. The photobooth was a favorite place that day and we had amazing pictures with students who posed in front of it. We also would like to send our gratitude to parents, staff and students who supported the book fair and purchased the books from the vendors. It showed the level of reading enthusiasm and our interest as lifelong readers. We hope that the spirit of reading in Sekolah Victory Plus community will continue beyond the event and we are looking forward to our celebration next year. - Ibu Ani KoswaraPage 11 of 20

Rosary Prayer Pilgrimage to Taman Doa Regina Rosary On March 7, 2019 Rosary Prayer held Ziarek (Ziarah & Rekreasi) - pilgrimage - to Taman Doa Regina Rosary. Taman Doa Regina Rosary or Regina Rosary Prayer Park is built in the backyard of the Catholic Church of Our Lady of Parish, Cirebon, West Java. It is equipped with 14 stations of Jalan Salib Devotions and also Mother Mary Cave. There were eighteen participants joining this pilgrimage. We departed at 05.30 am from SVP and a bit traffic at the toll road from Bekasi to Cirebon. We had a rosary devotions during the trip to Cirebon so the bad traffic would not affected our mood and spirit to get there. After 5 hours of road trip by bus to Cirebon, finally we arrived at Taman Doa Regina Rosarii. We were enthusiastic in carrying out the ritual of Jalan Salib Devotions solemnly until the last stop. After we finished, we continued our devotions to Mother Mary Cave, as our personal prayer was delivered to the Mother of Jesus. Last but not least, it was time to have some fun. We had our lunch at some famous culinary restaurants in Cirebon such as nasi jamblang and empal gentong. We also visited one of the most famous batik centres in Cirebon, Trusmi Batik. We left Cirebon at 04.00 pm and arrived at 08.00 pm at SVP. Thank you God we all were happy and grateful of His mercy. It was not only an ordinary journey, but it was a togetherness and a loving journey of Rosary Prayer.
