We also extend a warm welcome to today’s match officials : D McCarrick Asst : G Lewis Asst: T Readman We hope you enjoy your visit to Northfieild and will join us in The Whitehouse after the game for refreshments.

Today we bring an end to our 2013/14 campaign with the visit of Richmond Town Reserves. We’ve played them twice this season under the shadows of Richmond castle and lost on both occasions . The season in general has been disappointing on the field, we’ve out played teams in the 1st half, in the 2nd half and just before and just after the break, but we have seldom played for 90 minutes. Some of our mistakes have been poor by any standard but some of our football has been excellent and a pleasure to watch. It’s the glimpses of what we can do that gives us a positive feeling for next season. This year we have again finished stronger than we started and with the u18’s joining the squad on a permanent basis we have again strengthened the squad. One or two of the 18’s have helped us out this season and have not looked out of place, most noticeably Robbo who has been excellent when asked to step in, never easy for a goalkeeper. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the management team, who without their support I would not have seen the season out, Ian ,Pete and Davy thanks for your commitment and counsel. Players don’t appreciate the time and effort that goes into running a squad until they try themselves. This season we played Wingate In a preseason game, a new club with a new ground and a good set up however they have folded quoting a “lack of support” . Billingham Athletic in our division and Hemlington Smithy in the 1st division have also folded, reading between the lines Athletic folded because players didn’t turn up when they lost games and became disheartened. The management team just left, the lads who took over didn’t realise the size of the task and so the club went under. We would like to think we are over that and would like to pay credit to Brock, DaveR, Bez, Andy R, Stu, Matty and the other lads who have been with us since the start (apologies if I’ve missed you out) and to the players who turn up even though we don’t win many games…. It takes a lot of character to do that, BUT it also takes a lot of effort from the backroom staff to keep it going. I would Like to thank Carole and the staff at the Whitehouse for their support and the delicious food after the games and the staff at Northfield Sportsdrome. This is our last game as Billingham Town Intermediates. Billingham Town juniors have taken the decision to drop the Town from the name, as there was no link to the Nothern league club, and as the senior side for the juniors we will drop the “town” and the “intermediates for next season. The preparation for next season is well under way and I personally look forward to working with the u18’s who join the squad on a permanent basis, from what I have seen they will add quality and pace but will need to learn from the older lads. They have not looked out of place this season and that bodes well for the coming Campaign..

COME ON BLUES !!!!

2010 / 2011 The Intermediates founded when former U18 manager and BTJFC Secretary Peter Cooper and John Swanson came together to put together an adult team for the junior section. Both agreed that the Teesside league would be a good challenge and both had the same vision, to have a team where the players from the junior section could stay with the club once they had finished their junior football. The first season proved difficult on many levels; 42 players coming and going, organising a strip and pitches and most significantly the devastating death of Peter in October 2010. Ian Murray then the U18 manager joined the management team. A difficult season saw only 1 win in29 games... but the basis of a squad to go into the next season, and true to the philosophy that Peter had held, the majority had been former Junior players. 2011 / 2012 With a core of lads from the previous season and some of Ian's former U18 lads, the season looked to be full of promise, however the step up for the new lads and trying to gel the squads together saw the season start off where it finished the previous season, winless, however the results were encouraging. Once the team had it's first win under it's belt it went on an unbeaten run of 8 games. With the odd win/draw towards the end of the season...the results did not reflect the performances. The team had now started to develop a style of it's own, playing some attractive football, the highlight of the season had to be away to Northallerton Academy 22-0 down at half time, Town outplayed Northallerton to win 33-2 playing some great football, showing great character and both starting and finishing with10 former Junior players... the foundation well and truly in place. Thanks to the hard work of Ian The team got new strips through a sponsorship agreement with RA DALTON. whose support is still much appreciated. 2012 / 2013 A more settled squad started the season playing a good style of football however a string of long term injuries to key players disrupted the season. Again the squad struggled for points and goals but the last 9 games of the season saw a more settled 2--1 win at team start to play the football it promised early on. The highlight being the 2 Lingdale the first team to defeat champions (1 of only 2 clubs to do it) The season again saw progress both on and off the pitch with the addition to the coaching staff of goalkeeping coach Peter Laverick. The squad has 25 former junior players out of the 32 signed on continuing the philosophy that the team was set up to fulfil 2013 / 2014 We start the season at a new ground, Northfield sportsdrome and now have the support of the Whitehouse Pub who provide after match refreshments and have also paid for our pitch fees‌‌ Massive thanks !!!

Over the last 3 years we have entered the Durham County Trophy and have used these games to spread the word about what BTJFC are about and to make new “friends”. This year our friendlies were against 2 teams we has played in the cup in previous years and a new community club…. This is their season!

One of our pre season games was against newly formed Wingate FC. Wingate had received grants to develop the changing facilities and had their pitch re laid and fenced off. The club tried really hard to involve the local community by letting them chose the clubs colours and the winner also became honorary chairman for the year. With an enthusiastic manager, good squad and a sponsor on board it was sad to hear that Wingate had folded in their 1st season, citing lack of support as the reason

Birtley St Josephs are another club we played pre season having played them in the county trophy a couple of years ago. At the moment St Josephs are lying 4th in the league. Last Thursday the played Newcastle Chemfica in the final of their League cup. St Joseph’s conceded the only goal in the 45th minute. Gateshead Redheugh 1957 who we played this year in the county trophy reached this year’s final. They met Counden & Leeholme in the final but in a tight game they were beaten 2-1.
