As we have said in previous issues “ will the real Billingham FC stand up!” An average performance last week saw us exit the Durham Trophy at the last 16, on reflection a game which we scored 3 goals but gave them 2. A constant theme this season and one we need to rectify if we are going to start winning games on a regular basis and get the results that our football on the whole deserves. We worked hard to defend last week but never got close to them, we worked hard on the ball but didn’t pass well. Disappointed to go out but that lets us bring our thoughts back to the league and to start putting some performances together. Since the last issue we welcome back Josh Chambers who tried his luck at Norton & Stockton and Tom Patrick who is now back from deployment in Afghanistan, Tom adds to our defensive unit but can also add an ariel threat up top if required. We also have a new addition to the lads, a former U18 Callan Smith joins the playing staff. We have a fantastic squad morale and attitude showed by the turnout at training and the matches since our devastating defeat to Middleton Rangers. A game we should and could have won and the management felt if we had scored first then we would have walked home but like so many of our games we failed to finish off a game and got caught out. Off the field I would like to both thank and congratulate Steely and Greavsy (assisted by Jow) for putting on a fantastic music quiz....... The FUNdraiser raised valuable funds for the squad and was a GREAT night. We really need all the lads to buy into the club events to help us go forward. Along the same lines I would like to thank Greavsy for his efforts in obtaining a grant from the Teesside Philanthropic Society for warm up kit for the whole squad, another fantastic step forward in establishing the squad as a proper football squad. Today we welcome Redcar Athletic to Northfield our 1st opposition this season and a welcome 3-0 away win. That said we are not good enough to think that will guarantee us a result today, this new team will have learned lessons.... So must we and make sure the REAL Billingham FC turns up!
COME ON BLUES !!!! A CHARTER STANDARD DEVELOPMENT CLUB
5
2010 / 2011
The Intermediates founded when former U18 manager and BTJFC Secretary Peter Cooper and John Swanson came together to put together an adult team for the junior section. Both agreed that the Teesside league would be a good challenge and both had the same vision, to have a team where the players from the junior section could stay with the club once they had finished their junior football. The first season proved difficult on many levels; 42 players coming and going, organising a strip and pitches and most significantly the devastating death of Peter in October 2010. Ian Murray then the U18 manager joined the management team. A difficult season saw only 1 win in29 games... but the basis of a squad to go into the next season, and true to the philosophy that Peter had held, the majority had been former Junior players. 2011 / 2012
With a core of lads from the previous season and some of Ian's former U18 lads, the season looked to be full of promise, however the step up for the new lads and trying to gel the squads together saw the season start off where it finished the previous season, winless, however the results were encouraging. Once the team had it's first win under it's belt it went on an unbeaten run of 8 games. With the odd win/draw towards the end of the season...the results did not reflect the performances. The team had now started to develop a style of it's own, playing some attractive football, the highlight of the season had to be away to Northallerton Academy 2-0 down at half time, Town outplayed Northallerton to win 3-2 playing some great football, showing great character and both starting and finishing with 10 former Junior players... the foundation well and truly in place. Thanks to the hard work of Ian The team got new strips through a sponsorship agreement with RA DALTON. whose support is still much appreciated. 2012 / 2013
A more settled squad started the season playing a good style of football however a string of long term injuries to key players disrupted the season. Again the squad struggled for points and goals but the last 9 games of the season saw a more settled team start to play the football it promised early on. The highlight being the 2-1 win at Lingdale the first team to defeat champions (1 of only 2 clubs to do it) The season again saw progress both on and off the pitch with the addition to the coaching staff of goalkeeping coach Peter Laverick.
The squad has 25 former junior players out of the 32 signed on continuing the philosophy that the team was set up to fulfil 2013 / 2014
We
started the season at a new ground, Northfield sportsdrome and now have the support of the Whitehouse Pub who provide after match refreshments …… Massive thanks !!! Our Football continued to go from the ridiculous to the sublime, some great moves and goals but games where we fell apart in sections of the game and got punished. This will happen with a young team but in the coming season we will look for those players now in their 5th season, even though they are still young, to step up to the plate. The season started off badly with Cooky suffering a double fracture but it did save us 3 points, happily Cooky started training at the end of the season. The emphasis was again on the SQUAD with Muzz starting to work shifts a massive loss for us after his early season form but that is why we needed numbers to turn up to games and training. We did progress off the field and on but again finished bottom ( Billingham Athletic resigning). Lav as leading goal scorer led the line well and finished 2nd highest scorer in Billingham behind Ash Lavan. As a team we need to be more clinical and punish teams mistakes like they punish ours. For the first time we also produced a free match programme and developed to publishing it on-line 2014/2105
A NEW NAME……..
BILLINGHAM FC
Now
going into our 5th season we welcome the 3rd group of young lads to come through from the juniors. Many have had a taste over the last couple of seasons on an ad-hoc basis and we will look to integrate them fully into the squad which I expect to be a little smaller this season but also a season wiser. We have introduced Beth Pounder to the management team in the closed season. Beth is a qualified Sports Scientist and will deal with players injuries and rehabilitation. Beth is also a former Billingham Junior Let’s see what this season brings!!!

Anatomy of the Knee and Common Injuries
The knee Common Injuries Chondromalacia patella (also called patellofemoral syndrome): Irritation of the cartilage on the underside of the kneecap (patella), causing knee pain. This is a common cause of knee pain in young people. Knee osteoarthritis: Osteoarthritis is the most common form of arthritis, and often affects the knees. Caused by aging and wear and tear of cartilage, osteoarthritis symptoms may include knee pain, stiffness, and swelling. Knee effusion: Fluid buildup inside the knee, usually from inflammation. Any form of arthritis or injury may cause a knee effusion. Meniscal tear: Damage to a meniscus, the cartilage that cushions the knee, often occurs with twisting the knee. Large tears may cause the knee to lock. ACL (anterior cruciate ligament) strain or tear: The ACL is responsible for a large part of the knee’s stability. An ACL tear often leads to the knee “giving out,” and may require surgical repair. PCL (posterior cruciate ligament) strain or tear: PCL tears can cause pain, swelling, and knee instability. These injuries are less common than ACL tears, and physical therapy (rather than surgery) is usually the best option. MCL (medial collateral ligament) strain or tear: This injury may cause pain and possible instability to the inner side of the knee. Patellar subluxation: The kneecap slides abnormally or dislocates along the thigh bone during activity. Knee pain around the kneecap results. Patellar tendonitis: Inflammation of the tendon connecting the kneecap (patella) to the shin bone. This occurs mostly in athletes from repeated jumping. Knee bursitis: Pain, swelling, and warmth in any of the bursae of the knee. Bursitis often occurs from overuse or injury. Baker’s cyst: Collection of fluid in the back of the knee. Baker’s cysts usually develop from a persistent effusion as in conditions such as arthritis.

In division two in the only second division game, Billingham Synthonia won only their third match of the season when they travelled to Darlington and beat Middleton Rangers 5-4 with James Ascough scoring a hat trick, Ashley Lavan and Andrew Davies also on target, Kamil Kuleszo, Belio Paun and Rafal Kochanski with a brace replied for Middleton Rangers.
Yarm progressed to the second round of the Second Division Burness Plate after an extra time victory against Redcar Athletic, who scored first through Kyran Clark, Jack Dalton scored in the second half to send it into extra time and Dalton then scored a further three time to make it a final score of 4-1.
Both teams who were competing in the Durham Trophy out by the same close score of 4-3, Billingham FC lost away to Murton AFC and Stockton West End lost out a way to Spennymoore Town Reserves.

The club October FUNdraiser was a great night, although poorly supported everyone who was there had nothing but positive feedback for the night ..... As always we put on a great nights entertainment. The lack of support obviously had a financial impact on the club and on future events. The executive committee met and decided that for this season only we would ride the storm and caay on with our plans for the mini soccer Xmas party at the Swwan and more importantly the club presentation day. However thet decided we would also hold our annual spotsperon dinner but that we really need support on this night to make up for the shortfall in the October event. All said and done we still had around 120 people who enjoyed the night which was a Magician and Hypnotist night along with pie and peas, and followed by a disco. Our seniors held a music quiz at the Whitehouse on Saturday after their exit from the County Trophy in the 2nd round. The 2 player who rganised the night would like to thank all those from the club who supported the night and made it such a good laugh and great event
We have developed relationships through friendlies and county cup games across the North East in particular Birtley St Josephs, Whickham SC,Coxhoe Athletic and Redcar Athletic. This Year we had friendlies against Bishop Auckland Res, Annfield Plain, and Hartlepool FC As a management team we see this as part of the squads development on and off the field.
