Loftus Athletic visit the Sportsdrome this afternoon five places above us in 7th. Our last 3 games have seen a bit more consistency in performance, We have played well against both Boro Rangers and Redcar Town, 1st and 2nd in the league. Although we went down 3-0 in both games it was our defensive performance which pleased the management team, all the thigs we have worked on in training starting to come together. Our last game, away to Boro Rangers, saw our most impressive league display this season. Again further progress in the team shape and discipline defensively but we were also decisive in front of goal something that has let us down in the past. Several weeks ago we asked for performances in our last 5 games as we start to prepare for next season. The lads have delivered so far and we appear to be moving forward. It is no coincidence that we are also getting good numbers at training which allows us to work on the team shape. We have a great set up with a great set of lads, we hope we can keep together for the next couple of seasons then we all believe we will be in good shape to move forward. A good performance today is as important as the result that said 3 points against Loftus, a stronger side than their position suggests, would go a long way to maintaining our consistency but also to give us a chance to move up the table and away from the bottom 2.
COME ON BLUES !!!!
A CHARTER STANDARD DEVELOPMENT CLUB
5
2010 / 2011
The Intermediates founded when former U18 manager and BTJFC Secretary Peter Cooper and John Swanson came together to put together an adult team for the junior section. Both agreed that the Teesside league would be a good challenge and both had the same vision, to have a team where the players from the junior section could stay with the club once they had finished their junior football. The first season proved difficult on many levels; 42 players coming and going, organising a strip and pitches and most significantly the devastating death of Peter in October 2010. Ian Murray then the U18 manager joined the management team. A difficult season saw only 1 win in29 games... but the basis of a squad to go into the next season, and true to the philosophy that Peter had held, the majority had been former Junior players. 2011 / 2012
With a core of lads from the previous season and some of Ian's former U18 lads, the season looked to be full of promise, however the step up for the new lads and trying to gel the squads together saw the season start off where it finished the previous season, winless, however the results were encouraging. Once the team had it's first win under it's belt it went on an unbeaten run of 8 games. With the odd win/draw towards the end of the season...the results did not reflect the performances. The team had now started to develop a style of it's own, playing some attractive football, the highlight of the season had to be away to Northallerton Academy 2-0 down at half time, Town outplayed Northallerton to win 3-2 playing some great football, showing great character and both starting and finishing with 10 former Junior players... the foundation well and truly in place. Thanks to the hard work of Ian The team got new strips through a sponsorship agreement with RA DALTON. whose support is still much appreciated. 2012 / 2013
A more settled squad started the season playing a good style of football however a string of long term injuries to key players disrupted the season. Again the squad struggled for points and goals but the last 9 games of the season saw a more settled team start to play the football it promised early on. The highlight being the 2-1 win at Lingdale the first team to defeat champions (1 of only 2 clubs to do it) The season again saw progress both on and off the pitch with the addition to the coaching staff of goalkeeping coach Peter Laverick.
The squad has 25 former junior players out of the 32 signed on continuing the philosophy that the team was set up to fulfil 2013 / 2014
We
started the season at a new ground, Northfield sportsdrome and now have the support of the Whitehouse Pub who provide after match refreshments …… Massive thanks !!! Our Football continued to go from the ridiculous to the sublime, some great moves and goals but games where we fell apart in sections of the game and got punished. This will happen with a young team but in the coming season we will look for those players now in their 5th season, even though they are still young, to step up to the plate. The season started off badly with Cooky suffering a double fracture but it did save us 3 points, happily Cooky started training at the end of the season. The emphasis was again on the SQUAD with Muzz starting to work shifts a massive loss for us after his early season form but that is why we needed numbers to turn up to games and training. We did progress off the field and on but again finished bottom ( Billingham Athletic resigning). Lav as leading goal scorer led the line well and finished 2nd highest scorer in Billingham behind Ash Lavan. As a team we need to be more clinical and punish teams mistakes like they punish ours. For the first time we also produced a free match programme and developed to publishing it on-line 2014/2105
A NEW NAME……..
BILLINGHAM FC
Now
going into our 5th season we welcome the 3rd group of young lads to come through from the juniors. Many have had a taste over the last couple of seasons on an ad-hoc basis and we will look to integrate them fully into the squad which I expect to be a little smaller this season but also a season wiser. We have introduced Beth Pounder to the management team in the closed season. Beth is a qualified Sports Scientist and will deal with players injuries and rehabilitation. Beth is also a former Billingham Junior Let’s see what this season brings!!!

Conditioning Stretching Programme Stretching is very important in all aspects of physical activity as it prepares the body for exercise and also prevents injury, better to have strong supple stretched out muscles than stiff, tight and torn muscles un-stretched! Stretching is often overlooked in warm ups and cool downs are rarely performed in most sports but should be done! Stretching not only increases your flexibility but also has a positive effect on your ability to execute ball skills, drills and your agility across the pitch. By having increased range of movement by stretching this helps to perform fine motor skills with greater poise, elegance and consistency. It also improves your agility in changing direction and having speed quick off the mark. By performing a stretching programme at least 3-4 times a week your range of motion will increase massively. As it is coming towards the end of the football season take note of the following and get stretching during pre-season to prepare you for next season. There are different types of stretching that can be performed, static, dynamic, proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation (PNF) and Ballistic. Do not however perform stretching programmes as part of warm ups before training or matches. It has been suggested in recent studies that holding stretches for too long can hinder performance. This doesn’t however mean that stretching should not be done in warm ups, it just means the quantity of stretching and the time the stretches are held should be reduced. During warm ups stretches should be held for 8 to 10 seconds for static (standing calf stretch) in combination with dynamic stretching such as lunges, high knees and heel flicks etc. As well as incorporating PNF stretching such as the common hamstring stretch in which the leg is raised passively, stretched and then a short 8 second contraction is performed. During the stretching programme stretches should be held for 20-30 seconds in 3 sets per stretch and performed at least 3-4 times a week. Programme Considerations! Do NOT hold a stretch that is in anyway painful. It should feel tight and that tightness should diminish as you hold the stretch. Breath! Avoid breathing holding as you stretch as this can raise blood pressure and leave you feeling dizzy. For optimal results try to stretch every day or at least 3-4 times a week Makes sure your body in completely warm before you start. Either do 5-10mins of light aerobic exercise or do your stretches at the end of a training session. Hold each stretch for 20-30 seconds. "Shake out" the limb and joint and repeat for a total of 2 to 3 sets. Don't expect results overnight. It can take up to 6 weeks to see measurable improvements. Be persistent - they will come. Finally, consider testing yourself prior to starting a soccer stretching program then again after 6 weeks. Next week’s Match Day Programme will feature an example programme to get you all started throughout the pre-season period and remember the considerations!

At our Sports dinner Chairman Lee Shackleton announced that the club has secured the Teesside partnership with AC Milan Summer Camps, a fantastic opportunity for our 7-15 yr olds. Our U11’s have clinched the title by at least 4 points a great achievement and they now look forward to Division 3 next season. Our U12 Lions narrowly missed out on the title after drawing away to eventual champions Leven, a fantastic effort in their 2nd season. The U12’s have sealed the championship with a game still to play, setting them up nicely for their trip to Holland. Our mini soccer sides have all performed well and are now firmly established and looking forward to our tournament and their next season. Our development squad has gone from strength to strength with one of our senior players, Dave Rowney preparing to take the team as their time with Development coach Jonny Flynn. Work is now well under way to prepare for the clubs presentation day and summer tournament and maybe the AC Milan Summer Camp. The Senior side are also well into planning their second club day with 24 people signed up from within the club, coaches parents etc.
We have developed relationships through friendlies and county cup games across the North East in particular Birtley St Josephs, Whickham SC,Coxhoe Athletic and Redcar Athletic. This Year we had friendlies against Bishop Auckland Res, Annfield Plain, and Hartlepool FC As a management team we see this as part of the squads development on and off the field. The teams play in the following leagues‌ this is their news Counden & Leeholme
