DRONA - Faculty meet

‘DHRONA’- the Faculty coordinators’ meet was held on 6th September, 2014 at Hotel Hablis, Guindy with 33 faculties representing from 27 Colleges, hosted by Rotary International District 3230. The commenced with ‘THAMIZH THAI VAZHTHU’. Associate Youth service Director Rtn. Roopa Sunil, Chairperson - DHRONA gave the welcome address. The inaugural address was given by District Governor Rtn. I. S. A. K Nazar spreading insights on facts about Rotary, RI District 3230 and its youth wing Rotaract and Interact. The context setting was done by Rotaract Chair Rtn. Tamilselvan. District Youth Service Director Rtn. Gnanavelan then presented the history of Rotary followed, by which DRR Rtr. PP PHF Arjun Raja briefed the projects of District Rotaract Council.

An interactive session on bridging the real gap was handled by Rtr. PDRR Solomon Victor.

The session started with a fantastic icebreaker thereby focusing on the pros, cons and 4 | District Secretarial Team 2014-2015

improvement in the movement itself. Each faculty was given a paper and was asked to write their views. The sheets were collected, tabulated on a chart and put in an interactive discussion. The session concluded with a group photo with the faculties. Finally, the faculties were felicitated with the DHRONA kit. The event ended with vote of thanks by Rtr. PP Reshma, Chairperson - DHRONA followed by sumptuous lunch and fellowship.

From the quarter finals, teams were selected for the finals. Rotaract Club of New Club won the tournament against a Rotaract club of the East Coast.

Talk show The talk is aimed to bring people to outlay their views on various areas of interest before the District Rotaract Council Meeting. In that way the district professional service hosted a talk show on 31st September at M.G.R. Janakai college in adyar. First the gathering was addressed and a small introduction was given by Rtr. Sivapriya on Talk show. The speaker of the talk show is Rtr. Saseen Ilanchezian from Rotaract Club of Rajalakshmi Engineering College was given an introduction and later given the dais. He spoke on tamil literature that set an example for the rotaract theme ‘INSPIRE OTHERS’ for the Rotary year 1415. His speech was very inspiring as the way he carried himself and his profound knowledge was catching. After his awesome speech Rtr. Sivapriya delivered the vote of thanks with an appreciation of Rtr. Saseen Ilanchezian.

Loveall - Vollyball Tournament A volleyball tournament for the College based and Community based Rotaract clubs in R. I. Dist.

3230. A complete boys tournament, which was held on Sep 21, 2014 at the New college ground.

The tournament kick started at 9 am. With the first match between the Rotaract club of east coast & the Rotaract club of Akash and then the

Pandha Urutttu Kattya Norekku – District Club Service Team Organized a Ten Pin/Snow Bowling Competition on September 21st 2014 at DownUnder, Egmore. 35 Rotaractors took part in the competition and the tournament went for 2 hours.

Rtr. Sabeel from Rotaract Club of Satyabama got the Winners trophy and Rtr. Suresh Krishna from Rotaract Club Green Galaxy got the Runners trophy. Rtr. Lakshmi Theja was the only female player to score 100points.

The phase 2 of the ten pin bowling will be conducted in the month of November.

T- Virus

District Professional Service team along with Rotaract Club of SCP Jain College conducted an awareness program named ‘T- Virus’ on 21st September at Rotary Centre. It was an awareness program about the disease Rabies for the Professional service directors of Rotaract Clubs.

Rtr. Jabez - the Chairman for the event gave his welcome address, followed by Rtr. Shankar Raman - the Secretary introduced Dr. Mohammed Jubeez from Madras Veterinary College, Vepery who was the speaker for the program.

Dr. Jubeez explained about Rabies with a presentation. He, also explained the symptoms of Rabies and how to prevent it.

Rtr. Senthil - Professional Service Director addressed the gathering and gave memento to the Speaker. Rtr. Shankar gave his vote of thanks.

Nearly 60 Rotaractors participated in the project.

IDYE - Visit

RYLA - WAVES On September 26th 27th& 28th,s Rotaract Clubs of Chennai, Dhanalakshmi College of Engineering, Dhanalakshmi Srinivasan college of Engineering & Technology and Loyola College jointly hosted the DISTRICT RYLA - WAVES. The RYLA was planned in such a way that the Rylarians should enjoy their sessions and to bring out their leadership qualities and their skills. The chairman for the event was Rtr. Senthil Mani and Secretary was Rtr. Rahul.

DAY1 The event started with the enthusiastic Rylarians from ROTARY CENTER early morning 7am we started our journey towards THE ASHOK BEACH RESORT, Pondicherry.

On September 25th 2014, we sent 4 Rotaractors from 2 different Rotaract clubs in Rotary International District 3230 to Rotary international district 3202 (Thiruppur,Pollachi,Ooty) for Inter District Youth Exchange Program (IDYE).

Rtn. G. Gnanavelan - Youth Service Director was the chief guest, Rtn. Aluvalia from Rotary Club of Madaras were the special guest for the inaugural function along with host club presidents and District Rotarct Representative. The Launch of Waves Ryla T-shirt, Kit & Badges were made by the Chief Guest. Followed by ICE BREAKING SESSION by Rtr. Britto Mano, who made the Rylarians to be more active in the very first day, the session had the team split up among the 120 Rylarians.

Rtr. Binu conducted management games on teamwork for the Rylarians, followed by we had break for the lunch.

Day 1 ended with Drums Kumaran’s show, who has made Guinness Record in playing Drums continuously. His performance made the crowd enthusiastic.

For the Valedictory ceremony, Rtn. Raja Sekar Youth Service Director - Rotary Club of Madras were the Special guest. Best Rylarians Rtr. Sathya (Best male), Rtr. Priyadharshini (Best Female), Runner ups Rtr. Krishnaprasad (Male Runnerup), Rtr. Nivedha (Femal Runnerup) and the best Rylarian team were awarded at the Valedictory ceremony. Also the working committee of the RYLA – WAVES were recognized.

DAY3 Early morning we had a exercise taught by Rtn. Babu Seshadri and games for Rylarians in Beach.

After the breakfast, we had a session by Rtn. Narasiman – Motivational Speaker on Power of Thought. Rylarians were motivated by his session, followed by session on Project Planning and friendship by Rt. Britto.

On September 20th and 21st, 2014, a youth carnival named ‘THEDAL’ was organized by the Rotary International District 3230 in hands with Rotary International Districts 2980, 3000, 3201 conducted a Youth Carnival for the Rotaractors. The event witnessed more than 200 Rotaractors and was held at Periyar Maniyammai University, Vallam, Thanjavur. District Rotaract Representative Rtr. PP PHF Arjun Raja and Rotaractors from Rotary International District 3230 took part in the 2 day carnival, and were benefitted by the sessions conducted in the carnival.

Sep Month Reports GROUP 1 GRR - Rtr. IPP Manoj Rotaract Club of Chennai 7th Sep, 14 – CLUB MEET A formal Club meeting has happened which has been attended by 28 Rotaractors.

22nd Sep, 14 – SCRIBING 35 members have helped blind students in writing their exams through Scribing. It is a joint project with our own parent club - Rotary Club of Madras.

26th, 27th & 28th Sep, 14 – WAVES RYLA We have hosted the District RYLA-WAVES. It’s a 3 days event for the green rotaractors. It was a platform for the rotaractors to interact with other club members & also a knowledge earning event to know about Rotaract.

Rotaract Club of Loyola College 6th Sep, 14 – OPERATION TREASURE HUNT We had our first club service activity for the year which was a fun filled treasure hunt in which around 84 rotaractors have actively took part & had a fun filled day.

Rotaract Club of SCP Jain College 2nd Sep, 14 – B’DAY CELEBRATION We celebrated our club member Rtr. Suganaya’s mother birthday in her home along with 25 Rtrs.

21st Sep, 14 – T VIRUS It is a Rabies Awareness Training seminar for the professional services director which has been organised by Dist 3230.

26th Sep, 14 We have cleaned Pazhaverkaadu beach for around 7 km with the help of 150 Rotaractors from our Club.

29th Sep, 14 – B’DAY CELEBRATION We celebrated our club Secretary Rtr. Santhosh’s birthday and our club member Rtr. Suresh’s birthday in pazhaverkaadu beach along with 27 Rotaractors.

6th Sep, 14 - ROTARY AWARD FOR EXCELLENCE AND TEACHERS DAY ORIENTATION PROGRAMME Rotractors hosted a Teacher Orientation Programme and Rotary Award for Excellence organized by the Rotary Club of Madras Mylapore Uptown sponsored by 11 more clubs.

This program had 536 Participants out of 53 schools in which 33 teachers were nominated for teaching Excellence Award.

8th Sep, 14 – ONAM CELEBRATION We celebrated Onam Festival in a traditional way by our Rotaractors along with love feast.

Mr. Henry Marris, Sandeep and Ms. Stella from Nazareth College were invited as special guests and the celebration was held at NBLC Office.

10th Sep, 14 - ENTREPRENUER ENGAGEMENT PROGRAMME After distributing the salary for the employees in the Paper bag production unit, quelling jewellery unit, Eco Club unit, there was an orientation for new employees. Grievances, complaints and compliments were discussed, raised and acknowledged. Games were conducted along with the Birthday Celebration for the month of July and August.

14th Sep, 14 - QUELLING JEWELLERY STALL The quelling jewellery Stall was organised by 3 Rotaractors at the grounds of the Egmore Wesley Church during their harvest festival.

There was a sale raised for Rs.2450 /15th Sep, 14 - MY STATIONARY SHOP Rotaract club in collaboration with NBLC started my stationary shop. It’s a cooperative store where stationeries were sold along with refreshments.

18th Sep, 14 - JAMMU & KASHMIR FLOOD – DONATION Rotaract Club of Nazareth College - 620 Rotaractors volunteered to support the noble cause to touch the lives of people affected at J&K in flood. Nazareth college of Arts & science, Nazareth college of Education for women and Nazareth school (Interact 120) participated and we sent products of worth. Cash of Rupees 10,000 was contributed where medicines were purchased and sanitary pads for the victims. The parent club has handed over 26 boxes.

19th Sep, 14 - RYLA ON THEDAL The RYLA was a 3 day Camp which was in fact a turning point for all the 12 Green Rotaractors who participated along with faculty coordinator Angelin Rabindra.

20th Sep, 14 - QUELLING JEWELLERY STALL Jewellery stall was set up in Commerce Department during the Entrepreneur Development Programme and had a sale risen for Rs. 950 /- at College Campus.

23rd Sep, 14 - PLATELETS DONATION Mr. Biju Paul, President Rotary Club of Mylapore Uptown extended his timely help and donated platelets along with his co-president to one of our Rotaractor’s Father who met with an accident. The 10 Rotaractors from Nazareth College donated blood & Mr. Venkatasen is feeling better and we were reported that he will be undergoing further treatment shortly. 23 units of B+ve were also donated.

5th Sep, 14 – TEACHERS DAY On account of teachers’ day, we wished all our teachers and gifted our staff coordinator who is a very strong pillar of support for us and a great source of inspiration, with a glass painting made by our Rotaractor.

10th Sep, 14 - HAPPY BDAY RTR.MARTIN! We celebrated birthday of Rtr.Martin, President of Rotaract Club of University of Juba, South Sudan, R.I.Dist 9212. We made a picture collage and a birthday video for him. The video had messages from Rotaractors of our club and a few district officials.

14th Sep, 14- TREE PLANTATION Partnering with an NGO called Nizhal our club’s Rotaractors planted saplings at the Kotturpuram Tree Park. We have planned to do this every week. The purpose of this project is to have all indigenous plants of Tamil Nadu at this place.

15th Sep, 14 – BLOOD DONATION CAMP We conducted a blood donation, eye screening and dental check up camp for our rotaractors, staff members and people resident in the locale.

A total of 151 units of blood were collected, 165 people took up eye screening and 143 people underwent dental check up. Apart from this, 7 rotaractors donated blood in various emergency cases through this month.

15th Sep, 14 - ENGINEER’S DAY This day is celebrated as the Engineers’ day in honour of a very eminent scientist of our country, Mr. Vishweshwaraya. Considering this, we

posted a description about the scientist and the importance of this day to us as engineers, in our club’s facebook page and made our rotaractors aware of their values.

16th Sep, 14 – DEBATE Rotaractors from our club participated in a debate conducted by our parent club, Rotary Club of Adyar at Savera Hotel. The rotaractors debated on whether pocket money given by parents to their wards is good or bad for them.

Rtr. Gokul bagged the best speaker award.

Rotaract Club of East Coast

18th Sep, 14 – PEACE Our rotaractors assembled in our Rotaract room.

All of them were dressed in white to partake in the project “For Peace”. We clicked a picture of ourselves and mailed it to Rotaract club of Vishwahita.

13th Sep, 14 – POT DINNER We had a gathering in beach where each member brought food from home and we shared it among members.

18th Sep, 14 – CLUB MEET The Club meeting has happened in College premises which has been attended by 35 Rotaractors.

21st Sep, 14 – KALVI This is an initiative to teach few destitute students in a home at Thiruvanmiyur, the basics of English and Maths during weekends.

Rotaractors from our club have planned to volunteer in batches and execute this project every week.

24th Sep, 14 - BIRTHDAY CELEBRATIONS We celebrated our Club service Director Rtr. Abirami’s, our club’s PRO Rtr. Akshayasudha’s and our Club’s Joint Community Service Director Rtr.Anirudh’s birthdays by cutting cakes.

29th Sep, 14 - BIRTHDAY POSTS This month our club service team has posted picture collages of all rotaractors who celebrated their birthdays and wished them all success. A special post was made for our District Governor Rtn. ISAK NAZAR sir.

5th Sep, 14 - THANK U GURUDEV On the occasion of Teachers’ Day we expressed our gratitude and love to our teachers by issuing Greeting cards to all the Faculties of our college including our Vice Chancellor and Dean. We had also sent a special mail to all of them.

26th, 27th & 28th Sep, 14 – WAVES RYLA We have co-hosted the District RYLA-WAVES. It’s a 3 days event for the green rotaractors. It was a platform for the rotaractors to interact with other club members & also a knowledge earning event to know about Rotaract.

27th Sep, 14 – CLUB MEET Club meeting has happened in Express Avenue which have been attended by 12 Rotaractors.

Rotaract Club of WCC 2nd Sep, 14 – FUN TIME The children of government school were taught various games and dance as part of extra curriculum activity.

5th Sep, 14 – STUDY TIME The children of government school were taught Maths, English and children who found the course difficult were given more activities and examples to understand the subject.

9th Sep, 14 – CLUB MEET Club meeting has happened in College premises which have been attended by 16 Rotaractors.

10th Sep, 14 - GET IDEA As a part of club service the green rotaractors were given sheets of newspaper & were asked to connect each other with different ways & ideas.

10th Sep, 14 – CLUB MEET Club meeting has happened in College premises which have been attended by 47 Rotaractors.

11th Sep, 14 – Mr. Felix vinod a media consultant shared his experience handling radio station and tower, selecting radio jockeys for various radio stations.

An expert sound engineer in Jaya Tv as well.

13th Sep, 14 – CLUB MEET Club meeting has happened in Semmozhi Poonga which has been attended by 30 Rtrs.

23rd Sep, 14 – BITHDAY BEELLS (SHIFT 2) A green Rotaractor’s birthday was celebrated in college premises. This activity was introduced to make the members feel special and given individual importance.

27th Aug, 14 – SELFIE TIME As Selfie is going viral all around the globe, rotaractors with enthuse participated in selfie contest which was held inside college campus and the best selfie was awarded based on the likes on club official page.

BEST ROTARACTOR We have introduced a new activity in the club that every month we will award one green Rotaractor for the enthusiasm, interest, helping nature towards Rotaract club. For the month of September Rtr. Ruby a 2nd year student was awarded.

27th Sep, 14 – CLUB MEET Club meeting has happened in Radisson Blue which has been attended by 4 Rotaractors 7 6 Rtns.

30th Sep, 14 – PROFESSIONAL SERVICE (SHIFT 2) Professionals from the interior designing field conducted workshop along with some interactive sessions and best members were given gifts. And videos were played to make them realize that professional courses exist apart from academics for them to prioritize and chose their career in a broader way.
