Letter Letter from from the the Governor Governor

Joshua Burgett

2020-2021 District Governor

Hey Southwest, It has been an eventful year so far. Although we are only two months into our CKI terms, we have some great planning going on at the district level for this service year. I am excited for all of our future events! With our current times it is important to stay safe and some of the objectives of our organization. I wanted to use a portion of this update to highlight some of International’s Objects as per our International Bylaws:

To develop aggressive citizenship and the spirit of service for improvement of all human relationships; To afford useful training in the social graces and personality development To give primacy to the human and spiritual rather than to the material values of life; To encourage the daily living of the Golden Rule in all human relationships To develop, by precept and example, a more intelligent, aggressive, and serviceable citizenship; To cooperate in creating and maintaining that sound public opinion and high idealism, which make possible the increase of righteousness, justice, patriotism and goodwill

I encourage you all to look at these, the events of the world today, and at your personal beliefs and values and act accordingly. Do remember that on some level what every member posts or says can reflect on our organization. In a historic time - with a high degree of political tension and civil unrest - it is important to think critically about what is said and take time to reflect upon the situation before reacting, posting, or replying to emotionally or politically charged debates/conversations. Something that we can do as members of CKI is to participate in advocacy, and encourage active and engaged citizenship. I also ask that you remember that we are still in the midst of a global pandemic and that many of the guidelines in place are not only there to protect you, but protecting the most vulnerable in the communities that we serve. We are at heart a service organization and there are many opportunities for every member to serve their local, national and global communities during this time. I hope that you all stay safe, healthy, and active citizens; remember that your voice and your vote matter.

Note from from the the Note Bulletin Editor Editor Bulletin Hello everyone! Time flew by quickly since the last bulletin, but so many things have happened in that time! With school done for everyone, unless you're taking summer courses, Lauren Vargas I am excited to see 2020-2021 District Bulletin Editor what we do. Don't forget to kick back and relax here and there though! Overall, I am proud to see that we've adapted and continue to take on what the current situation deals us and we aren't letting it slow us down. Either by continuing to serve our community in the small ways we can or making the transition to online formats. In this bulletin I cover the update on CKIx, give a recap of all the training that's happened this past month and share the goals the district has for this year, amongst other stuff. Until next time, stay safe

D istrict Officer Training C onference District Officer Training Conference, also shortened as DOTC, is for members of the board to come together and get formal training in different aspects of CKI. This includes topics like Youth Protection, Bylaws and Recruitment and Retention, to name a few. Usually it is held at Kamp Kiwanis, but for safety it was held online this year.

Training Like DOTC, Online Officer Training, also shortened as OOT, is training for the club officers at each school in the district. This was the first OOT ever run which was organized by our LTGs Alissa and Frida.

It was a weekend that put to practice what each club officer will have to do this year as well as a bonding weekend with fun Kahoot games.
