CKI Mission “Developing college and university students into a global network of responsible citizens and leaders with a lifelong commitment to service”

a word from your

Hey Ponies! It’s crazy to think about how it is already 2018 and in just over a month, a new leader will be elected to take over the publications of Southwest Sun next year. However, as weird as it may feel to reflect on this, I am incredibly excited to see the amazing things that the incoming board accomplishes. With that, I hope you all have a wonderful semester filled with service, leadership, and fellowship. As always, if you have any rad events you want to see featured, feel free to reach out! Best of luck!!

With district convention right around the corner, now is the perfect time to consider running for district office. At DCon, we will be electing members to fill the positions of District Governor, Secretary, Treasurer, Bulletin Editor, and Ltg. Governors. All of these positions are vital to ensure our district remains successful in the coming year and provide members with a wonderful opportunity to gain districtlevel leadership experience. If interested in running, feel free to reach out to any current member of the District Board!

SERVICE SPOTLIGHT

For their first project of the new semester, University of Arizona CKI volunteered at Ben’s Bells on January 12. Members helped paint kindness coins and touch up other beads that will be used to help financially support the kindness-centered mission!

Every year in honor of MLKJ Day, ASU CKI goes out into the community to perform service. This year, ASU CKI worked at Roosevelt Growhouse, a community garden in downtown Phoenix. They helped weed the garden and aerate the soil for plants.

One of the most well-known service partners we have, UNICEF strives to help children’s lives all across the globe. UNICEF supports children with fundraising, advocacy, and education. It is through this partnership that CKI is supporting the WASH initiative.

St. Baldrick’s foundation works with leading pediatric oncologists to fund research towards curing childhood cancer. The 2017-2018 SWD CKI Board selected this as our District Project as it is a new CKI Service Project and is special to Governor Laura Belmont. Now, we are raising money as a District to see members “Brave the Shave” at DCon 2018! This year, I hope that we as a district can raise $5,000 (or more!) for the St. Baldrick’s Foundation, and I will be shaving my head if we reach that goal as part of a Brave the Shave event.

10 CKI’s New Service Initiative

WATER. SANITATION. HYGIENE. Similar to the Eliminate Project before it, WASH it CKI’s new service initiative with UNICEF. This initiate aims to improve the water, sanitation, and hygiene conditions for millions of children across the globe, to reduce their risk of contracting preventable diseases.
