Running for a District Position?

So, you're considering running for a position on the District Board? That's great! As with anything, it's always great to have information pertaining to the venture we are about to undertake.

On the next few pages, you will find information relating to the positions you are able to run for at our District Convention in February.Â

Governor

The Governor makes sure that everything is running smoothly constantly, all the time. The role of the governor is to make sure that the District is functioning, and check in with every member of the District Board and beyond to ensure that the job is getting done, whatever that job may be. The governor aids in representing the district, and is most definitely a n individual of all trades.Â

Secretary

A common fact in life: a good secretary helps make everything run a bit more smoothly. The District Secretary is responsible for keeping track of meeting minutes, service hours, and maintaining contact with club secretaries.Â

Well-oiled machines tend to run better than those that aren't, and that is why it is crucial to have an awesome District Treasurer. The District Treasurer os largely responsible for communicating with the governor to establish a budget, as well as keeping track of district expenses.Â

Treasurer

Bulletin Editor

The Lieutenant Governor position is open to 2 different individuals: an officer for recruitment and an officer for retention. The LTG is responsible for the promotion of retention and recruitment, and maintaining contact with the President's Council. They work to charter new clubs and increase general membership across the district.

The Bulletin Editor helps to represent the aesthetic and ideas of the district through social media and monthly bulletins. The Bulletin Editor is largely responsbile for all district publications .

International Endorsement: What is it? At DCON, individuals planning to run for international office at CKIx are able to seek endorsement by their district. Delegates will vote to provide the person with the endorsement, a unanimous endorsement, or to deny. This aids the candidate in running for international office.

Why should you run? If you're on the fence about running for a district position, you may be asking yourself: why should I even do this? Surely someone else will run for the position. You are uniquely you, and each individual brings a passion to the district that varies. You may bring ideas never seen before in the Southwest. If you want to go for it, do it. Give yourself the opportunity, and give everyone in the Southwest the opportunity to enjoy your ideas. (It also looks great on resumes, but that's just the cherry on top of an already overloaded sundae.)

What is an LTG? an interview with your LTG, Kiana Russo.

What inspired you to apply for the open LTG position? I was inspired to apply for the position of LtG because when I was in high school, I served as a Key Club Lieutenant Governor for two years. While the two positions are similar in some ways, they are also different since, after all, they are two different organizations with different structures. However, I applied for the position anyway because I felt that my experience would help me to do well and I wanted to experience the position of being LtG at the Circle K level.Â

What would you say are the primary duties of the Lieutenant Governor? The primary responsibilities of the LtG includes interacting with club presidents, acting as a resource for them to then pass along to their club, and hosting presidents council meetings. In addition to serving the presidents, I provide tips and tricks about how to recruit members to Circle K and about on how to retain members.Â

How has your experience been as LTG this year? My experience serving in this position has been great! I have learned about the position and I have been able to bond with my fellow board members at events such as Fall Rally. I have also held a president's council meeting when I met with the club presidents and discussed updates within our district.Â

What would you say to anyone considering the position for the upcoming CKI year? To anyone who is considering running for this position, I would say be prepared to be creative. For example, thinking of fundraiser events/service to pass on to presidents. Also being accessible is very important. Responding club presidents/ other officers, or the Governor is key because it will allow for your term to be used to its fullest potential. Â

Give a Day to Circle K Curious about how other districts attempt to meet their service goals? Curious in general? Thirst for knowledge no longer!

This campaign is an initiative that aims to have districts set a 24-hour per member service goal! Certain districts go about this in a very interesting manner, including UCR's Service Never Sleeps Event -- straight up service for 24 hours.Â

Circle K International would like to encourage as much service as possible. Service done on your time.Â

scholarship opportunities Every year, the Kiwanis Children's Fund offers scholarships that you are eligible to apply for! These applications are due February 1st, and you are all encouraged to seek funding through this great opportunity.Â
