CKI Mission “Developing college and university students into a global network of responsible citizens and leaders with a lifelong commitment to service”

a word from your

Hey Ponies! It’s crazy to think that an entire month of the CKI new year has already flown by! Thus far, it has truly been an honor to create these publications and manage Southwest’s social media accounts. Noting that, I’d now like to request help from all of you! If you know of any cool Kiwanis-related events (Interclubs, KFRs, service projects, socials, etc.) please let me know! I want to show off the amazing accomplishments of our district as much as possible, but need submissions of club events in order to do so! Otherwise, I can’t wait to see what the next 11 months bring! I’m sure that it will be a wild ride as our small, but mighty district continues making lasting investments in our communities. Stay rad, and stay in touch!

4 Hey Southwest!

I hope you all had a great end to your semester and that you get plenty of time to relax, enjoy your summer, and most importantly: take care of yourselves! CKIx is coming up fast! CKIx is our international convention and day of service, and this year it will be in San Antonio, Texas from July 5th-9th. You will get to meet people from all around the organization, do some amazing service, and make friendships that last a lifetime! Going to CKIx was definitely one of the best decisions I have ever made, and I hope I see you all there! If you haven’t already registered, there’s still time. Registration is $250 and closes on June 1st. Be sure to fill out Immediate Past Governor Banna Tesfay’s form ( https://goo.gl/forms/ Lzs59uPSLLAIigx13 ) if you’re interested! You also can apply for club or individual awards until June 1st, so be sure to do that as well. It would be great to see all of our amazing members and clubs get recognized internationally! I am also excited to introduce Governor’s fireside chats! They are an opportunity for any member in the district to come and get the chance to speak directly with me. You can come to ask any questions you have, to voice any concerns, to share any ideas, or if you just want to learn more about something going on in CKI! You are also more than welcome to stop by to just say hi! Our next Governor’s fireside chat will be hosted on Sunday, May 21st at 7:30 pm AZ time at https:// hangouts.google.com/hangouts/_/asu.edu/firesidechat . I am looking forward to speaking with all of you!

Stay Spicy, Southwest! Laura Belmont

K-FAMILY KATCH

On May 6, the Kiwanis Club of Sierra Vista hosted their annual Honors Breakfast, through which they recognized high-performing seniors from local schools. Several of the recognized seniors were involved in Key Club and now hope to continue their leadership journey with Circle K!

Earlier this week, SWD Kiwanis Governor Michael Iafrato hosted his official visit to Kiwanis Division 7. During this visit, K-Kids, Builders Club, and Key Clubs all teamed up to work in the Community Garden for a day. After such a great service project, everyone enjoyed a delicious lunch together!

superstars Colorado State University— Pueblo CKI worked alongside Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity at their Swing-athon Fundraiser and Music Festival. This festival was designed to “Swing to end hunger” and featured performances by stars such as L.C. Houston.

FOR CNH, April is CKI Kiwanis Appreciation Month! During April, CNH CKI clubs intentionally thank Kiwanians for their support and encourage increased CKI/Kiwanis connections. Some of the ways CNH CKI’ers are able to connect with Kiwanians include hosting special events, attending Kiwanis meetings, making gifts, and writing thank you cards!
