a word from your

BULLETIN EDITOR

I hope your finals have been going well! Mine have been, questionable. As I scramble with school, shirts, and life, I hope you can forgive me for skipping last month. I hope you love this vamped edition of the Sun, and it’s a nice read to distract you from exams! Stay Spicy,

In Mid-October, the Southwest District of CKI packed up their bags and gave up their internet to spend a weekend at our very own Kamp Kiwanis in New Mexico. Demigods from schools all around our district join together in service, leadership, and pure good company of one another, joining the Southwest Kiwanis with their Kiwanis Clean-Up. CKIers were split up into houses of their Greek God parent, and developed great teamwork skills throughout the weekend with their families, from three-legged dog races to building a tower to Mount Olympus. Not only did we have an amazing turnout with our district, we had our very own International Trustee

4

Jenny Park and International Vice President Jessica Davis join us, having the chance to bond with new members and get a taste of the desert. With the help of over sixty Kiwanis Family members, CKI was able to put in the most hours and dedication for the Kiwanis Clean Up than ever seen before. From chopping wood, marking trails, and cleaning basements, CKI proved that service goes a long way if you’re willing to get your hands dirty. In between horse-stealing, merry-go-rounding, star-gazing, and never-ending icebreakers, it was a worthwhile weekend. To watch a recap video from our very own Technology Chair Anyssa Iwamoto, check it our HERE.

Happy Holidays, Southwest! With December almost done and January around the corner it’s time to start thinking about next year’s CKI term. January 1st will be the opening for registration to events such as CKIx [61st International Convention + 16th Large Scale Service Project] as well as the release of the 2016 Leadership Academy web-page. With your District Convention coming up in February, I highly encourage you all to consider attending such events this summer. Whether it’s your first or your last year in our amazing club, International events are simply unforgettable and I hope I will be fortunate enough to see you all there. In the meantime, I look forward to seeing all of your warm smiles very soon. For any questions about events, resources, or fundraising don’t hesitate to shoot me a message or email at subregionb@circlek.org.

December 2015

Finals Week Hey Southwest,

OUR PARTNERS

As many of you know, finals are just around the UNICEF (Eliminate) corner. Noting that, many people on campus are March of Dimes stressed out and on edge because of everything Up With People that is going on. With that being said, this presents an awesome opportunity for service at your Students Team Up To school. There are several different ways that you Fight Hunger could make an impact during this stressful time. Better World Books Try hosting a stress-relief seminar/event or volLeading with Laughter unteering with any other organization doing finals survival activities on campus. Operation Christmas Child—GCU One of the amazing service events that GCU CKI participated in was Operation Christmas Child. They helped package over 400 boxes to be sent out to children 59 years old. Great job, GCU!

Leading with Laughter Just a reminder that we are still hoping to see clubs throughout the district participate in this service initiative. Noting that, if your club needs anything to host a project or participate, please let us know as we would love to help out!

Ava’s Eliminate Support Eliminate Challenge

$500

As many of you know, Ava challenged us to raise $500 for Eliminate by DCon. The prize if we do? Taking sharp scissors to her luscious locks of hair. Luckily for us, our district has already reached Ava’s goal, which means that one lucky club will be chopping off our governor’s hair. Way to go everybody!

$400 $300 $200 $100

Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF Keeping on the topic of Eliminate, October 31 was Halloween, or in Kiwanis terms, the official Trick-or-Treat for

had a great run with this event, raising about $700 total for the Eliminate Project. If anybody else participated in this event please let us know—we’d love to hear your success story!
