a word from your
Hey Ponies! Can you believe we are already halfway through the CKI term? It’s crazy to look back on the past 6 months and see all of the amazing things our District has accomplished! Looking forward, I am incredibly excited for the next 6 months and to see where our journey takes us! Specifically, we have great events such as Fall Rally, LSSP, and D-Con all approaching, so I cant’ wait to see all of those take place! As always, if you have any great members, service events, or article ideas that you’d like to see spotlighted, please reach out and let me know! Stay rad.

4 Hey Southwest! Hey Southwest! Hopefully you're enjoying the start of fall, and getting ready for Fall Rally and Halloween! Fall Rally registration is still open! Join other members of Southwest for a weekend of service, leadership, fellowship, and mystery. Fall Rally is an incredibly fun event, and we have some awesome activities planned including a murder mystery dinner and a pajama party! Check out our website to register! I'm excited to see you all there! Our St. Baldrick's fundraising page is now live!! Please reach out to your clubs and communities to get donations. You can donate directly to the page here: https://www.stbaldricks.org/events/SWCKI . We are hoping to raise $5,000 by DCON and haven't raised any yet, so be sure to share the event around! CKI Week is coming up October 23rd-28th!! Instead of a service week or full out Kiwanis Family month, CKI will instead be having a mega celebration week leading up to Kiwanis One Day on October 28th. An official CKI Week Guide filled with project ideas has been created to help you maximize your CKI week/Kiwanis One Day experience. If you have any questions or want help making any plans, feel free to reach out to me! I can't wait to see all your awesome events! Trick or Treat for UNICEF is also coming up! This year, the funds we raise through Trick or Treat for UNICEF will be benefiting the WASH project, CKI's 5-year initiative to boost water and sanitation in Haiti. New resources have been released for you all to use in your endeavors, so check them out! There is also a Snapchat takeover contest, so be sure to keep an eye out on the CKI page for details about that. The Tomorrow Fund Application is now live! The Tomorrow Fund grants clubs/divisions/districts in CKI anywhere from $200 to $2000 to complete a service project. It is an incredible opportunity, and I hope to see our clubs applying for it! The application is due on December 1st. For more information, check out the service section of the CKI website.
Want to know more about Trick or Treat for UNICEF? Want to learn about DLSSP? Just want to chat? The next governor’s fireside chat will be Sunday, October 29th at 7:30 pm AZ time! It will be held via Google Hangouts at the following link https://hangouts.google.com/hangouts/_/asu.edu/firesidechat . Come to share ideas, ask questions, or just chat with me! I am looking forward to seeing you there! Feel free to contact me at any time for any reason! Whether you have questions, comments, ideas, or just want to say hi,
Stay Spicy, Southwest! Laura Belmont
K-FAMILY KATCH Past Kiwanis Governor and First Lady Bob and Alma Carson were able to visit Immediate Past CKI Governor Banna Tesfay earlier this week! Having the opportunity to build lasting connections with Kiwanians is one of the many benefits to joining CKI, where you truly become part of a Kiwanis Family.
In late September, San Pedro Kiwanis hosted their installation luncheon, led by LTG Don Townsend and President DeeDee Hoeft. Through this luncheon, the San Pedro Kiwanis club was able to have a great time, celebrate service, and grow closer as a club!

SUBREGION B
superstars
Our awesome Subregion B Trustee, Banna Tesfay has implemented a new Sub-Bae program this year, called Subregion and Chill. These fun online video chats are a great way for members from all across our subregion to come together and have fun! For more information, follow the Sub-B Facebook page!
One of the great events that CNH Circle K has recently hosted was Crazy Kompetition for Infants South! This event was hosted to raise money for a Pediatric Trauma Program. To do this, there were several competitive games and relays for teams of CKI members to compete in. Way to go, CNH—we can’t wait to hear more about your accomplishments!

St. Baldrick’s foundation works with leading pediatric oncologists to fund research towards curing childhood cancer. The 2017-2018 SWD CKI Board selected this as our District Project as it is a new CKI Service Project and is special to Governor Laura Belmont. Now, we are raising money as a District to see members “Brave the Shave” at DCon 2018! This year, I hope that we as a district can raise $5,000 (or more!) for the St. Baldrick’s Foundation, and I will be shaving my head if we reach that goal as part of a Brave the Shave event.

CKI MEMBER OR QUIDDITCH PLAYER? District Bulletin Editor Anika Faglie has been involved in sports her whole life, having competed in swimming, basketball, and soccer. But recently, she strayed from the traditional sports that you might find on television or in PE class, to try something new: Muggle Quidditch. That’s right, Muggle Quidditch, based on the popular sport from the Harry Potter book series, is a sport that is gaining popularity across college campuses and adult communities worldwide. In this real-world adaptation of a fantasy sport, players use Quaffles and Bludgers to earn points before capturing the Snitch and ending the game. This is exactly what Anika does as a Chaser on the University of Arizona Quidditch team. Through UA Quidditch, Anika practices the sport every week and travels to tournaments with the rest of the team to represent her school and sport!

ASU| AMBER LUU She was amazing this month! She attended almost every single service event, went out for our social chair which she got, and provided the club with great icebreakers where we got to know each other better.
