SWIM LAB ‘14 HELSINGBORG
WELCOME TO SWIM LAB 2014! It is with great pleasure that I welcome you all to SWIM LAB 2014! SWIM was launched in 2012 by BoostHbg, CPH:DOX, Film i Skåne and New Danish Screen. We all agreed that it was about time that we create a regional initiative to stimulate and support new ways of developing the existing film and media landscape with focus on transmedia approaches to business as well as creative development. Here we are, a little bit more than one year later, and SWIM has proven that it makes absolutely sense to support the new film and media entrepreneurs. The brave, creative spirits have proven that they are ready to rock the old world of traditional film and media production and we are here to support that spirit once again. This year we have selected eleven projects and together they form an extremely strong line-up. We hope that they will not only end up showcasing new, innovative ways of developing creative media projects but as importantly we hope to see them inspire others and make solid waves in the existing media landscape. With SWIM LAB 2014 we strongly believe that we have given you the best setting to do so: We have invited some of the leading creative business and transmedia experts to help you dive into new media strategies, and we have created an environment of real interdisciplinarity in order to explore new partnerships and share knowledge across disciplines. Hopefully it will be inspiring, mind blowing and fun. Good luck with the Lab. We look forward to following you during the next months. With the words of the grand old lady of true transdisciplinarity, Yoko Ono: “A dream you dream alone is only a dream. A dream you dream together is reality.” Tine Fischer, Lead partner of SWIM

SUPPORTS TALENTS OF STORYTELLING “New ground is being explored through transmedia in terms of storytelling, ways of reaching an audience and financing. This makes it a very interesting field to follow and be part of right now.” Established in 2003, New Danish Screen is based on a partnership between The Danish Film Institute and two major Danish TV networks – Danish Broadcasting Corporation and TV 2. The mission is to develop and support the newest talents on the Danish stage for storytelling, fiction and documentary films. This is done through support to both new talents on a professional level as well as less experienced filmmakers that are striving to push boundaries and create new experiences for the audience.
NANNA MAILAND-MERCADO PRODUCER
Nanna Mailand-Mercado is a producer at New Danish Screen, where she is working to give new generations of filmmakers the opportunity to push their limits and create new experiences for cinema, TV and other screens. Nanna Photo: Per Morten Abrahamsen finds that a lot of new ground is being explored through transmedia - both when it comes to storytelling, ways of reaching an audience and also financing.

BIKES vs CARS
THE BICYCLE, AN AMAZING TOOL FOR CHANGE. ACTIVISTS AND CITIES ALL OVER THE WORLD ARE MOVING TOWARDS A NEW SYSTEM. BUT WILL THE ECONOMIC POWERS ALLOW IT?
BIKES vs CARS looks into and investigates the daily global drama in traffic around the world.
Today there are one billion cars in the world. By 2020, that number will double.
Climate change and never-ending gridlocks frustrate people more than ever. Instead of whining, people in cities around the world take on the bicycle as a ‘Do It Yourself’-solution. Road rage and poor city planning creates daily death amongst the bicyclists. And now they demand safe lanes. It’s an uneven fight. Activists and politicians that work for change are facing a multi-billion dollar car, oil and construction industry that use all their means to keep society car dependent. We know that the world needs radical changes to save the climate and the environment, but the car industry is selling more cars than ever.
From bike activists in Sao Paulo and Los Angeles, fighting for safe bike lanes, to the City of Copenhagen, where forty percent commute by bike daily, BIKES vs CARS will look at both the struggle for bicyclists in a society dominated by cars, and the revolutionary changes that could take place if more cities moved away from car-centric models. BIKES vs CARS is a documentary film and will use media platforms as a website as well as and app-based game to create a community that can interact and share knowledge about the subject.

GABRIEL KLINT
A MAGIC FICTION WORLD ABOUT DEATH FILLED WITH HOPE, BELIEF AND LOVE.
How about creating a magic fiction world about death that is filled with hope, belief and love? A world that can lift up the taboo of death and the deep existential thoughts we sometimes feel? That is what the project GABRIEL KLINT intends to do. Through a fiction story that unfolds on different platforms the project wants to help people who are afraid of death or have thoughts about existential questions. MESSAGE IN A BOTTLE
A MULTI-PLATFORM COMMUNICATION CONCEPT WITH STRONG LOCATION-BASED AND NARRATIVE COMPONENTS.
MESSAGE IN A BOTTLE brings people together in a social network. It is a communication concept based on an augmented reality app for mobile devices and allows users to communicate and interact in new ways by using the metaphor of a message in a bottle. A simple, emotionally engaging concept, which integrates man’s urge to tell stories with his urge to play.
It allows for a wide range of communication- and business-models – social networking, marketing, dating, gaming or a combination of these. The idea was born at the PixelJam 2012 cross-media innovation seminar, where it won the award for best business model.

RECHO Create a sound and make it audibly available excactly where it is recorded. That’s what RECHO is about.
RECHO – or Recording Echoes – wants to create an app that is based on one simple dogma: The sounds you record stay where they are recorded. You and others with the app are able to hear them again if you are standing on this exact location. The app will have two main functions: The first is LISTEN. This is the apps default mode when it is opened. Here you can, like a compass, see the nearest recordings in walking distance. There is no map, just directions and indications of distance. When you get closer to a recording, which is called
a recho, a sample of the dropped sound plays with increased intensity in your earphones. Moving your body to the centre of a recho, allows the sound to play in full volume. On the display of your smartphone you are now able to see information such as: date, author, tags and genre. The second function of the app is RECORD. This is done with a big button in the centre of the compass-screen. Press and hold to record, let go to pause. Click OK, give it a title and some tags, a genre and the sound is published!

STORY MUSIC AN INTERACTIVE VENTURE INTO THE CREATION OF ART AND MUSIC, WHERE YOU AS THE VIEWER AND USER ARE ASKED TO TAKE PART IN THE CREATION.
A son of the Faroe Islands returns after many years - Teitur, who was born and grew up on the islands, records his 5th international album here, by the help and hands of local people, their traditions and talents, and the sounds of the islands. He lets certain core value principles guide him and by gathering people and bringing them into the music, Teitur shares his knowledge. STORY MUSIC is an interactive venture into the creation of art and music, where the viewer is asked to take part in the creation. We follow the waves of inspiration, we see it happening and we join the movement by choosing ourselves intuitively what pattern to follow.
The film brings us close to the transformational process it is to make an album, to manifest something, to make choices and follow them by actions, in a daily drama with obstacles and constant struggle. With practical implementation and consequences of choices, and with awareness, first of all, of the situation, of yourself and your possibilities. Overcoming is the value you gain. What you give is what you get. STORY MUSIC is a 20 minutes experience that you can return to over and over, and never ever see the same film more than once. There are in fact close to 1.000.000.000 different films to watch.

THE JADE EMPEROR vs THE FIFTH GRADERS What if you were a ninja? What if you could do the flying-kicks and had the martial arts powers of your fantasy-superheroes…?
THE JADE EMPEROR vs THE FIFTH GRADERS aims to create a narrative experience that addresses the secret dream of many young boys: To feel the thrill of being a ninja in the environment of their own life among dry, aloof or strange school teachers and older bullies. Through this narrative experience they addresses the anger, aggression and wildness of boys and investigate the thrills, pitfalls and joys of fighting – on a boy’s own terms. An experience that deals with the moral dilemmas in an anarchistic, provoking and fun way clashing the ninja-fantasy genre with
the social realism of normal school life. By creating a narrative crossmedia experience for boys in the age of 6-10 years old, the project will explore and tap into young boys’ almost biological fascination of fighting and competing between one another. The mission is to embrace the joy and fun of fighting and see it as a positive and natural release of energy rather than simplify it to a violent and domineering behavior that needs to be suppressed.
