MUCH MORE THAN A FILM FESTIVAL “The future is multi medial! That’s why CPH:DOX has initiated SWIM as a platform to prepare the film industry for new ways of thinking business as well as creative development.” Copenhagen International Documentary Film Festival was founded in 2003 and today the festival is one of the biggest of its kind. During the festival in November more than 200 documentary films, representing the current and most interesting documentary scene are shown. But CPH:DOX is much more than a traditional film festival. All year around CPH:DOX makes innovative events and projects that push and expand the boundaries of what documentary can be and contain with e.g. industry initiatives as DOX:LAB and SWIM.

SUPPORTS TALENTS OF STORYTELLING “New ground is being explored through transmedia in terms of storytelling, ways of reaching an audience and financing. This makes it a very interesting field to follow and be part of right now.” Established in 2003, New Danish Screen is based on a partnership between The Danish Film Institute and two major Danish TV networks – Danish Broadcasting Corporation DR and TV2. The mission is to develop and support the newest talents on the Danish stage for storytelling, fiction and documentary films. This is done through support to both new talents on a professional level as well as less experienced filmmakers that are striving to push boundaries and create new experiences for the audience.

PROMOTING ALL ASPECTS OF FILM “For us to be part of SWIM is to work for the creation of new ways to make and consume film as digital content. Tomorrows audience will be both creator and consumer of stories we haven’t seen yet.” Established in 1995 and financed by Region Skåne and The Swedish Film Institute, Film i Skåne is a regional film fund and resource center for film and TV with the task of promoting all aspects of film. Their regional work is run in three main fields: Film Education, Screening and Production. BIKES VS CARS
SWIM LAB PROJECTS
THE BICYCLE, AN AMAZING TOOL FOR CHANGE. ACTIVISTS AND CITIES ALL OVER THE WORLD ARE MOVING TOWARDS A NEW SYSTEM. BUT WILL THE ECONOMIC POWERS ALLOW IT?
According to the IBM Traffic Pain Index there are 1 billion cars on the planet today. By 2020, that number will have doubled. Bicyclists are hit and killed in traffic every day. The risks and fears keep people from going by bike themselves or sending their children to school on bikes. Despite of this, in big cities a lot of people are already taking their bikes as a DIY solution to the congestion and climate issue, but often good and safe bike infrastructures are lacking in big cities. With the overall campaign goal to create bike-friendlier cities, the project consists of a smartphone app along with the documentary film BIKES VS CARS.
The app traces the path of each biking person individually, drawing their journeys through the city streets on a map with lines growing thicker where people ride the most. The resulting map, showing where citizens ride their bikes, will be utilized as planning criteria for future bicycle infrastructure and as an instrument for lobbying. In Copenhagen, 40% of all commuters go by bike. What if we could take that number and apply the model to other cities. What would the cities of the world look like? If we can increase the number of bikes in the world, we could have cleaner air, healthier citizens and more liveable cities. 28 Let us Copenhagenize the world.

DEAD DONKEYS FEAR NO HYENAS A documentary thriller about the sell out of African land to foreign investors.
In the Ethiopian capital it is boom time. The most fancy hotel lobbies are crowded with investors, agricultural experts and adventurers that have come for the “green gold”. Skyrocketing food prices and hunger riots have increased the demand for food followed by a rush for arable land. Ethiopia itself is in desperate need of increased food production. Supported by development aid organisations, Ethiopia sees the solution in foreign investments and large-scale farms. Soon millions of hectares of allegedly unused land are leased out all over the country.
But in reality, there is no such thing as unused land in Ethiopia. In Gambella, thousands of households are “relocated” to give space for foreign farms. Those who do not move voluntarily, are forced away by soldiers. Cut off from their ancestral land people are now turned dependent on cheap jobs at the farms or food aid delivered by the same aid organisations that supported this development program in the first place.

DRIFTR is easy and fast as well as playful and intuitive. It is the fastest way to connect personal and corporate content to a location. Driftrs can be attached to one specific location, to whole neighbourhoods or they can be moving, simply just drifting around. Driftrs can be anonymous or public. They can be organised in closed networks. Finally, driftrs expire when they are not in use, so what you see is always up to date. You are where you go!

PASSIONAIRE
A PASSIONATE WORLD IS A BETTER WORLD. THIS IS THE PHILOSOPHY OF PASSIONAIRE - A MAGAZINE ABOUT PERSONS AND PASSIONS.
What would the world be like, if everyone had the possibility to dedicate their time to explore, follow and make a living out of their passion? What would the world be like if we, as individuals and society, had the power to question old habits and let our dreams and passion set the rules? What would the world look like, if we started to highlight and celebrate people that express their passion and dreams in any kind of way? The people behind PASSIONAIRE are storytellers on a mission to show that a passionate world is a better world. By highlighting and celebrating individuals that express their passion, creativity, dreams and values, the goal is to
inspire the audience to do the same. PASSIONAIRE’s world about people and passion is based on this notion. PASSIONAIRE is right at the forefront of the new worldwide trend of positive journalism in a time where people crave meaning and value in their lives. PASSIONAIRE is not about success but rather about the values, beliefs and passion that individuals put into their crafts. By focusing on the why instead of the what behind what people do, we can move towards a more emotional, engaging and passion based storytelling and in the end create a more including society.

RECHO CREATE A SOUND AND MAKE IT AUDIBLY AVAILABLE EXACTLY WHERE IT IS RECORDED. THAT IS WHAT RECHO IS ABOUT.
We are constantly connected to the Internet, no matter where we are. Moreover, as social feeds and streams are occupying our attention, we become increasingly distanced from our physical surroundings. We need to find deeper connections with the world around us. With RECHO you can record a sound and leave it in the place it was recorded. This means you can connect your personal stories and moments to specific places - anywhere in the world. Anyone can listen to them, but only if they go to the exact place where the sound was recorded. The site-specific dogma benefits the user experience, as the content automatically contextualizes itself
with its surroundings. The fact that anyone could stumble upon your content when visiting a place naturally makes you want to produce high quality content. RECHO creates an experience that has never before been possible. The possibility to leave digital sounds in physical places simply lets you relate to content in a new way. Within the trend of location-based social media it is exactly the use of sound that makes RECHO stand out. In a time where we constantly take in information with our eyes,

- FOOD HACKING IN JAPAN food hacking in japan will inspire people to participate in shaping an alternative, brighter culinary future.
The documentary series YABAI looks at how food hackers in Japan reimagine how people eat, cook and farm hi-tech and organic food. In food stories with social and environmental dimensions, Japanese food innovators map out the future of food sovereignty in character driven portraits. By zooming in on Japanese food innovators and the subversive cuisine at the intersection of ecology and technology, YABAI looks at how robot chefs, bio-hackers, permaculture designers, urban farmers and disruptive foodies prototype new ways of cooking more fun, biodiverse and tasty food.
By using the second screen platform LinkLib, YABAI lets the viewer connect a smartphone to the film to read the director’s commentary while watching. For example, in a scene where a robot cooks ramen noodles, a Wikipedia link about the robot, as well as the ramen recipe, will be displayed on the viewer’s phone. YABAI is Japanese slang for something that’s either very dangerous or super delicious.
