THE
LIFESTYLE HEALTH
CHAMBER ASSOCIATION PROGRAM
The Southwest Indiana Chamber is pleased to introduce Lifestyle Health Plans as a unique health benefits program designed for Chamber members to address the underlying causes of the rise in healthcare costs - employee health behaviors. This program is made available through a partnership with NFP. WHAT MAKES LIFESTYLE HEALTH DIFFERENT? • Level-funded major medical plan designs • Underwritten by “A” rated carriers • Member savings averaging 5-15% in most cases • Integrated wellness incentives and cash-rewards • Up to a $500 deductible credit available to all wellness participants • Integrated concierge telemedicine, outpatient lab and diabetic supply benefits WHAT IS LEVEL FUNDED? Level-funded plans are essentially pre-packaged self-insured health plans, with low attachment stop-loss coverage. For many groups, level-funded plans reduce healthcare spend significantly versus a fully insured ACA small group plan. And because of their structure, levelfunded plans do not have the volatility in monthly cash flows, associated with self-insured plans, that can cripple a small business. HERE’S HOW A LEVEL-FUNDED PLAN WORKS: Level-funded plans are underwritten, health applications are required. For larger groups applications can be avoided if two years of claims history can be provided.

TSMA LEADS Landscape THE WAY & Lighting
T
he term Silver Tsunami (for lack of a better term) refers to the “baby boomer” generation that is quickly approaching the age of retirement like a wave. While the term may not be a favorite of some, it does nonetheless illustrate the overwhelming impact that retiring baby boomers will have on our workforce. The Indiana Department of Workforce Development estimates that by the year 2024 the state will have to replace 700,000 baby boomer retirees and fill 300,000 new positions. The A message from good news is there are numerous local organizations TIM HAYDEN working hard to mitigate the impact of this trend on Vice President & COO our local businesses and our local economy. At the Chamber, our workforce efforts focus on these five areas: Training, Talent, Internships, Inclusion and Regulatory Issues. With manufacturing being one of the largest business sectors in Southwest Indiana, we expect our Tri-State Manufacturing Alliance (TSMA) will be heavily involved in a number of these areas over the next 12-18 months. I am extremely excited about the leadership within TSMA and their efforts to work collaboratively in the “training” space on behalf of our entire region. The recently created “Shared Learning Program” is a TSMA/ Chamber pilot collaboration launched in May, whereby TSMA members with outstanding internal training programs are now making available “open seat” opportunities to other TSMA member employees. This allows some of our top manufacturers to “share” their internal training(s) with those who otherwise may not have affordable access to these types of programs. A list of available training programs is updated monthly on the Chamber/TSMA website, and registration is quick and easy. To learn more, please visit http:// swinchamber.com/tri-state-manufacturers-alliance/. Our TSMA Q2 Event at Ivy Tech Community College-Southwest at the end of June provided several of our manufacturing partners the opportunity to educate the community about the “nuts and bolts” associated with starting internal training programs and how some of our partners have set about building partnerships with local postsecondary educational institutions that are filling their specific workforce “gaps.” The Advanced Manufacturing Technician (AMT) program was born out of a partnership between Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indiana and Vincennes University, and blends classroom and lab instruction with onsite experience. The newly announced partnership among five local companies – including Chamber members SABIC, Valero, Mead Johnson Nutrition and CountryMark, along with Ivy Tech Community College-Southwest – creates the Process Operations Technical Certificate, which will provide a “real world” education in various aspects of plant operations. And an update from WorkOne Southwest provided information on available training expense reimbursements available through the state’s Next Level Jobs initiative. Continued leadership and collaboration from TSMA, regional businesses and regional higher education institutions will fuel our manufacturing sector well into the next decade, ensuring that our region of Indiana will be prepared to compete regionally, nationally and globally. At the Chamber we are thrilled to be a strong partner with the manufacturers in our region because we know that “together we thrive!”
Let's welcome Vivid Landscape & Lighting as a new member to the Southwest Indiana Chamber. Vivid Landscape & Lighting is located in Evansville and can be reached at 812-319-7687 or online at www.vividlandscapepros.com. Read on as Nick Luckett, lighting specialist and co-owner, describes how Vivid Landscape & Lighting can bring your home to life!
Tell us about Vivid Landscape & Lighting and the services you offer. VIVID is a unique family owned and operated landscape company with a focus on outdoor LED lighting. We offer American-made lighting products that come with a lifetime warranty, and we pride ourselves on keeping up-to-date with the latest products and technologies available on the market. What inspires you to do this business?
I’ve always been interested in technology – how it’s constantly changing. As an Evansville native and growing up in the landscape industry, the one thing I’ve always thought was missing was the average Tri-state area homeowner’s pride in showing off what they love the most – their home! After completing a few lighting design courses, I saw the “light” and realized outdoor lighting can do just that. It’s more than just a fixture, it’s a statement. Outdoor lighting has come a long way over the years and is now more affordable than ever – with 80% energy savings compared to older systems. With our low-voltage lighting systems, we are able to bring homes to life and illuminate each home’s best assets – from driveways and gables to water features and gazebos. What career advice would you give the younger generation interested in this type of work? Find a way to be different than everyone else. Do the research and stay up-to-date on industry standards. Never be afraid of a new product. In your opinion, what are three ingredients for success? Dedication, passion and discipline.

A PROGRESSIVE, BUSINESS-FRIENDLY ENVIRONMENT
P
osey County has many things going on for a community its size, and the Posey County Alliance (PCA) has many programs in action to help keep business and legislative issues important to the area flowing in a positive direction. The Alliance, part of the Southwest Indiana Chamber, is a collection of local people and businesses focused on enhancing quality of life by creating and supporting a progressive, business-friendly environment. The PCA is made up of 13 members who represent a wide range of areas throughout the community, including big industry, small business and the financial, technological, legal and educational sectors. The Alliance is responsible for reporting the growth and activity of local industry, promoting networking opportunities and providing residents access to local, state and federal elected leaders. As part of the Southwest Indiana Chamber’s 2018 Legislative Agenda, the PCA laid out the major priorities it would be focusing on for the upcoming year: • Education – The Alliance supports enhancement of programs and projects that strengthen the link between educators and Posey County employers. It supports the increase of base funding per student for state public schools. • Transportation – The PCA supports funding to alleviate rail congestion and move rail service off of 4th Street in Mount Vernon. It also supports the completion of State Road 69 (Western Bypass), which will provide a safer traffic route around Mount Vernon. The Alliance also supports the modification of excise tax, distribute base on all vehicles, including trucks.

(Western Bypass), which will provide a safer traffic route around Mount Vernon. The Alliance also supports the modification of excise tax, distribute base on all vehicles, including trucks.
YMCA OF SOUTHWESTERN INDIANA YMCA of Southwestern Indiana, Inc. celebrated a ground-breaking at 5th and Court Streets. The YMCA will have the same amenities – including multiple gyms and workout rooms and a boxing studio – and in all will be larger and more accessible than in the previous facility. Contact them at 812-423-9622 and online at www.ymcaswin.org.
• Increased broadband access – The Alliance supports increasing statewide private sector investment in wireless and wire line broadband telecommunications infrastructure. • Tax phase-in – This would allow for the continued use of tax phase-in as an economic development tool for local governments. It would allow for creative options for counties to market and encourage individuals to move into and reside in rural counties. • Home rule – The PCA supports efforts to preserve home rule for Indiana’s rural cities and towns, which would benefit the many communities that make up Posey County. The Alliance hosts many community events around the year to help draw visitors to see all that Posey County has to offer. The Riverbend Market is one of the bigger events. People can enjoy local arts, crafts, produce, live music and food booths once a month from May to October at Riverbend Park at the Mount Vernon riverfront. “It definitely draws in a good, diverse crowd,” said Becca Straub, director of the Posey County Alliance. “Having a vibrant downtown is important to us.” Another big draw is the Water Street Wine Fest, held annually in Mount Vernon, as well as Christmas on Main Street. The Posey County Alliance also collaborates with the Southwest Indiana Chamber for Meet Your Legislator gatherings for the public to meet elected officials. Also on the Alliance’s agenda are quarterly business luncheons where a speaker from the business community talks to those in attendance about what their business does and how it impacts the local community. Sometimes the speakers come from other parts of the region (for example, Evansville Regional Airport), which affords the Alliance another opportunity of bringing outsiders in to visit and enjoy Posey County. And on the horizon for Posey County is more good news. A nearly $2.1 billion project planned by Midwest Fertilizer Corporation will result in 2,500 construction jobs during development and 200 high-wage permanent positions. The Alliance also participates in the annual Report to the Business Community, held each April, where awards are handed out to honor leaders in different areas within Posey County. This year’s winners included: • Business of the Year – AstraZeneca • Young Professional of the Year – Matthew Hines, project manager at BWX Technologies • Business Person of the Year – Phillip Wells, president of TMI Contractors • Teacher/Administrator of the Year – Ryan Nowak, fifth-grade teacher at St. Wendel Catholic School

What has been one of the toughest challenges? The weather. We all know the Midwest can be unpredictable and that unpredictability can seem impossible to overcome in our industry. However, we continue to keep busy and utilize our time to the best of our abilities by attending design webinars and training seminars and finding new ways to light up our next project. What is your favorite thing about your work? What I love most about what I do is seeing our clients’ faces when their homes come alive with just a flip of a switch. What do you like most about the community in which you live? Evansville is a fast-growing, tight-knit community – offering more now than ever. With several big name companies opening their doors and many young entrepreneurs moving in, new development and opportunities are arising, making it hard to not love where we live.
