THE

LIFESTYLE HEALTH

CHAMBER ASSOCIATION PROGRAM

The Southwest Indiana Chamber is pleased to introduce Lifestyle Health Plans as a unique health benefits program designed for Chamber members to address the underlying causes of the rise in healthcare costs - employee health behaviors. This program is made available through a partnership with NFP. WHAT MAKES LIFESTYLE HEALTH DIFFERENT? • Level-funded major medical plan designs • Underwritten by “A” rated carriers • Member savings averaging 5-15% in most cases • Integrated wellness incentives and cash-rewards • Up to a $500 deductible credit available to all wellness participants • Integrated concierge telemedicine, outpatient lab and diabetic supply benefits WHAT IS LEVEL FUNDED? Level-funded plans are essentially pre-packaged self-insured health plans, with low attachment stop-loss coverage. For many groups, level-funded plans reduce healthcare spend significantly versus a fully insured ACA small group plan. And because of their structure, levelfunded plans do not have the volatility in monthly cash flows, associated with self-insured plans, that can cripple a small business. HERE’S HOW A LEVEL-FUNDED PLAN WORKS: Level-funded plans are underwritten, health applications are required. For larger groups applications can be avoided if two years of claims history can be provided.

Small Business Is Big Business in the Evansville region

n fact, small business is the backbone of our Tri-state economy. So, while you generally see major corporations in the headlines and on social media, this month, the Southwest Indiana Chamber and our partners nationwide will tell the stories of small businesses. In Southwest Indiana, 99.7% of businesses have fewer than 100 employees. The Small Business Administration (SBA) says these firms have the largest share of business employment in the state. However, if these businesses are unable to find the assistance A message from they need to find new markets, address TARA BARNEY competitor issues and identify capital, it limits President & CEO their ability to grow their business and hire employees. And most of the new jobs, the new ideas and the energy that are important cogs in our economy are brought to us by – you guessed it – small business. Most readers of these monthly newsletters are small business owners and employees. I hope you join the Chamber not only to work with others to grow your business and our economy, but also to increase the odds of your long-term success. As an entrepreneur you well know the courage, hard work and risk that comes with being your own boss. You tell us that economic uncertainty, lower consumer spending, and regulatory burdens are your biggest challenges. At the Chamber, we and our partners will work on your behalf to grow our population, to increase per capita income, and to keep cutting regulations locally and statewide. National Small Business Month is the perfect time for entrepreneurs to plan and implement new business tactics to fuel growth. Turn some of your hard work into “smart work” by considering the following: • Are you considering a new service or product? • Are you expanding a current facility or opening a new one? • Are you hiring the right candidates; can you find them? • Are you planning and allocating funds for targeted marketing campaigns? Among the Chamber’s most valuable services are those provided through our partnership with the Southwest Indiana Small Business Development Center. SBDC advisors provide one-on-one advising to business owners by helping them create a business plan, identify and secure financing, develop growth plans, implement efficiency strategies and more. Join the Chamber and the Southwest Indiana SBDC as we celebrate those risk-takers and innovators in our community during SBA Small Business Week, May 6-10. Make May the month you attend a networking event or drop in to Innovation Pointe on a Tuesday morning to have coffee with other entrepreneurs (7:30 a.m. sharp). If mornings aren’t convenient, visit our website for dozens of other choices. Reach out; we can connect you with training, research, data and certainly inspiration! Thanks for taking the risk! Together we thrive!

Let's welcome Myriad Brewing Company as a new member to the Southwest Indiana Chamber. Myriad is located at 101 SE 1st St., Suite 1 in Downtown Evansville and can be reached at (812) 402-1515. Read on as Jamie Elliott, owner and executive director, tells us all about Myriad Brewing Company!

Pictured from left to right are Jason Elliott, Jamie Elliott, Max King

Tell us about Myriad Brewing Co. and the services you offer. Myriad is a microbrewery, meaning we brew unique beers on site. We are located in Downtown Evansville, inside the historic McCurdy Building. We did our best to preserve the spectacular character of the space that is over 100 years old, and we think the community will be very impressed with what we’ve done. We offer the community a comfortable place to meet and enjoy a pint with friends, family or coworkers. The best part about being a microbrewery is that we have the opportunity to brew several varieties of beer so visitors can try something new as often as possible. We aim to brew what the community asks for and look forward to experiments, seasonal specialties and brewing staple varieties such as a Session IPA and a Cream Ale. Because we are focused on the beer, we do not serve food. We welcome outside food, delivery to the taproom and feature local food trucks each Friday. “Myriad” means infinite, endless. To us: “Myriad” translates to “Endless Possibilities” in life, in your work, in your dreams. What inspired you to invest time and resources in this business? We were born and raised here in Evansville. We love this city and chose to invest in it because we are committed to its growth. Jason has worked in the craft beer and beverage industry for years, and I have been in the event planning and production industry. A small brewery and taproom, with the capability to host and produce various events, was a perfect marriage of our passions. We brought our head brewer, Max King, in on the business plan early, as we knew we needed his input throughout the process. We’ve known Max since 7th grade, so we were basically already a family. The three of us are committed to providing a space for people of all walks to come together and share special moments over a locally made beer. New Member Profile, continued

M

Unveils new 'E' and innovative workspace

any positive happenings are occurring at Fifth Third Bank downtown in Evansville, from new employee workspaces to a renovated banking center for customers to unveiling their “e is for everyone” community campaign. Court Kull, president of Fifth Third’s Greater Indiana Region/Southern Market, said the company felt it was important to participate in the “e is for everyone” brand campaign for the city of Evansville. “We felt it was important to participate for a number of reasons, one of the biggest being how closely it aligns with one of our corporate core values,” Kull said. “The message of the ‘e is for everyone’ campaign is that everyone is welcome in Southwest Indiana, and the same is true of Fifth Third Bank.” Kull said that Fifth Third wants everyone in the community to feel welcome when they walk through their doors, whether it is a current or prospective customer, as well as employees. “Our core values — Integrity, Work as One Bank, Respect and Inclusion, Accountability — steer our behaviors every day and keep us focused on delivering our vision, which is to be the One Bank people most value and trust,” Kull said. “The ‘e is for everyone’ campaign is a great way for us to reinforce what is important to us and the community.” Kull said the recent opening of the new employee workspace, as well as the renovated financial center this summer, are prime examples of Fifth Third “undergoing a renaissance” much like downtown Evansville has been over the past few years. “Introducing our version of the ‘e is for everyone’ logo is playing a big part in us letting the community know that Fifth Third Bank is on the move, and the trajectory is up,” Kull said. “We felt creating our own ‘e is for everyone’ logo presented a unique opportunity for us to relaunch our brand following the renovation of our downtown workspace.” A ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the opening of that new workspace was held in March. Among the new amenities are a mother’s room, treadmill workstations, ergonomically correct workstations and an open floor plan. “A great deal of planning went into creating a flexible work environment to support our

MILESTONES diverse workforce, including the ability to sit or stand while at their workstations, which can move up and down with the push of a button,” Kull said. “There are also treadmill desks that enable team members to walk while working, and a private mother’s room for new and expectant mothers.” He added that the new area will have many collaborative workspaces for multiple lines of business to plan and work together “to bring the right Fifth Third Bank solutions to customers in the Tri-State.” Kull said the feedback he has received about the new look has been “fantastic,” from not just Fifth Third employees but from the general public as well. “We have had several customers visit the space because they are considering moving to a similar work environment,” he said. “Many said they expected it to be loud, but they have been pleasantly surprised at how quiet it is. The design incorporates many sound deadening features, and multiple private rooms are available for people to use if they need to participate in a project or a call that could become disruptive.” Kull said there has been “very little negative feedback.” However, “my favorite is an occasional complaint that the Foosball table can become a little loud when the competition heats up!” While construction has wrapped up on that project, work on a renovated firstfloor banking center is heading into the home stretch. Kull said it will be “very pedestrian friendly” and incorporate an open floor plan, providing options for multiple levels of privacy. “Our transaction bar, to make deposits and withdrawals, will replace the traditional ‘teller line’ you find in most banks,” Kull said. “We will have a smart ATM to facilitate more complex transactions than the typical ATM allows.” Kull said the most innovative feature of the new banking center will be a learning space where Fifth Third customers and the general public can financially empower themselves by learning about topics such as how to improve their credit score, avoid unnecessary fees and different options for saving. “We believe it will be a wonderful resource for our community,” Kull said.

In your opinion, what are three ingredients for success? #1 Patience #2 Positive attitude #3 Commitment What has been one of your toughest challenges? One of our toughest challenges has been navigating through the buildout of the brewery and taproom. A build-out like this is not standard. A brewery requires unique electrical work, plumbing, HVAC and venting. Our first challenge was figuring out how this 100+ year old building could be retrofitted to suit current building codes and to suit the needs of a brewery; 100 years ago, things were built very differently. It would have been simpler to tear walls down and start fresh, but we were completely committed to maintaining the original integrity of the space, and we are so glad we did! What is your favorite thing about your work? This line of work allows a person to be creative in problem solving, relationship building and most importantly, brewing. It’s so much fun to see our head brewer working up new recipes and even more fun to taste them! Being entrepreneurs, there is no greater feeling than being a business owner and watching just one single person walk through your doors. That feeling is amplified when you see people walk into your doors with their friends and family and simply enjoy being in the space you have created and enjoy the product you have brewed. What do you like most about the community in which you live? Evansville offers every person the opportunity to get involved, take charge and create. Evansville is a place where young people like ourselves can rip a dream out of their heads and make it a reality. At every setback in our process, there was someone there to take our hands and lead us to a successful opening. You just don’t get that everywhere. We love the pace at which Evansville is growing and are thrilled to be a part of it. Myriad is meant to be a place for everyone, and what better place to start than in Evansville, where “e is for Everyone”?! Thank you Jamie Elliott, owner and executive director of Myriad Brewing Company, for taking the time to share with us!
