Foreword of the President of swiss unihockey – 8th Women’s Floorball World Championship in Switzerland
Dear Floorball-Family, dear Guests from near and far I welcome you cordially to St.Gallen, the hostcity of the 8th Women’s Floorball World Championship of the Internation Floorball Federeation IFF. This is the first time in the history of the Womens World Championship that the 16 best teams from all over the World find themselves in one place to play against each other for the World Championship. So far, the tournament had always been held in an A- and a B-Group, consisting of 8 teams each. With pleasure I take note of the fact, that four of the five continents are being represented at this years tournament: America, Asia, Australia and Europe. When I look at the development of the sport of floorball in Africa, I can tell that it won’t be long, until a country from that continent qualifies itself to play in the World Championship. One World – One Ball – Floorball! I am convinced, that already the group stage will prove to be exciting, since several national teams have made great progress and aim to get into the finals. We can expect exciting games. I will not deny, that in order to aim for a medal, one will have to beat the four top-teams from Finland, Sweden, Switzerland and the Czech Republic. But the development of floorball has shown, that a lot of national teams are getting closer to the top-teams. Let us take potluck!
World Championships always have a special touch. On one side the effort of planning, organizing and holding such an event is huge. Without the help of volunteers, the support of the office of swiss unihockey, the confederacy, cantons, cities and communes, the economy and the media, such an event would not be possible. At this point I would like to thank all our sponsors and partners for their support. In face of the economic crisis, the strong Swiss Franc, connected with the global challenges, their participation is not a matter of course. Last but not least I would like to extend to the city of St.Gallen and all it’s public authorities, in their function as host city of the Women’s World Championship 2011, my admiration, compliment and thanks for their generous support. Absolutely amazing! On the other side the World Championship with its publicity sets forces free, which let the sport of floorball in general and swiss unihockey especially get into the center of attention. In the course of preparation for the Women’s World Championship, swiss unihockey has launched various different programs aimed mainly at the young generations to bring them closer to and get them excited about the sport of floorball. We are convinced, that our pre-championship efforts, connected with an immaculate performance during the World Championship 2011 will help the development of swiss unihockey in the near future and will help us make a step forward. I thank you in the name of the Central Committee of swiss unihockey and all of the floorball community for your visit and I am looking forward to, together with you, enjoy exciting, entertaining and fair games, after the slogan of the Women’s World Championship 2011: get inspired! Edwin Wiedmer, President of the Central Committee of swiss unihockey 3
