FISCAL YEAR-END STATISTICS — Daryl L. Martin, Executive Director
May 31 marked the end of another fiscal year. On this page and the following you will find graphs that visually depict fiscal developments at Swiss Village over the past 44 years. It was last year that Swiss Village opened Westenfeld, a 14 bed rehabilitation unit for short term stays. This is the newest level of care, committed to intensive rehab. Originally this unit was scheduled to open in June, but due to unforeseen delays it was not opened till August. As a result we
experienced a drop in healthcare census that impacted revenues. At the same time we experienced a reduction in our Medicare and Medicaid reimbursement rates. To adjust to this reality, cost saving initiatives were instituted to reduce expenses. We continue to experience lower than acceptable census in congregate independentliving. A contributing factor is the turbulent economy. However, we believe that the age of the units is also a cause. To improve the
marketability of Zurich & Lucerne Haus renovations are currently underway. These efforts will continue in the months ahead. Plans are to have an open-house event this fall after completing renovations in Lucerne Haus. We continue to work at taking care of our aging buildings. Part of the renovation work scheduled for Zurich Haus includes repairs to the sinking floor created by soil shifting. The foundation and building structure is stable, but the floor has dropped causing interior (CONT. ON PAGE 2)
