THINKING
ON
TODAY
Being a true believer in having a vision, I believe that a vision can get lost if we are not facing forward. Thinking about either the good aspects, or the not-so-good for that matter, of the

accomplishments that we have made or on the failures that we m i g h t h a v e experienced, can only lead to a loss of focus – leading to a result that we may not be prepared for nor which we would have preferred. In his devotional book Uncommon Life, author, former NFL coach-turned commentator, inspirational speaker Tony Dungy is quoted “both pride and complacency were en em ies to our mission and would
eventually lead to a fall” (speaking of the teams he coached). He went on to say “whether winning or losing we had to shake off the past and keep moving ahead… focus on the task right ahead of us”. Key words that mean a great deal to me just now as a ‘newbie’ at the helm of this great mission and ministry of Swiss Village, Inc. Of course we will always be true to the founding ideals and mantra of my predecessors and their co-leaders and Cont. on page 2

counsel, but what these words tell me is that we need to be true, more-so, to the needs and concerns of today and tomorrow. We need to be attentive to setting realistic expectations, goals and objectives in the hopes that our path remain true and steady. We know the good things that lie in our wake… what course shall we set for the excellence that lies ahead? It’s easy. God will direct our every step and there are great days ahead for His ministry in Berne, Indiana! Paul states in Philippians 4:6: Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. We are going to continue doing that in all steps we take at Swiss Village. Be patient, be a part of the vision, watch it happen! Back to Dungy: “When we remember where we are going we tend to get there more often”. Peace.

THERAPY —
Tara Farlow
A joint replacement is a major surgical procedure that needs post-surgical care. Orthopedic rehabilitation is vital to restore activity, strength, and motion following a joint replacement. Staying active and following the prescribed program are essential roles in the recovery process, as well as continuing a pain free life you had once experienced. After surgery, patients will likely experience a combination of the following

at/around the location of their new joint: muscle weakness, pain, swelling, and stiffness. For hip and knee replacements, patients will often stand or begin walking the day of surgery, making rehabilitation a critical part of the recovery process based on your personalized treatment program, therapy will work with you one-onone, up to 7 days a week. Therapeutic programs are designed to target your specific needs to help restore range of
motion, strength, flexibility, and balance. When treatment is followed correctly, it will alleviate swelling, while increasing circulation and healing time. If you are having severe pain that makes it difficult to carry on with other normal daily activities, talk with your doctor about your treatment options. Your doctor can discuss the benefits of surgery and risks to determine if joint replacement is right for you.

RESIDENTIAL ACTIVITIES —
Jamie Kittle
November is a traditional time to be thankful for our blessings. We are fortunate to be able to gather together for fellowship and activities we enjoy. We extend a big thank-you to our veterans for their service and sacrifice. We honored our veterans in November with a patriotic slide show, a trip to the SA school Veterans Day program, and a complimentary meal at our café. Our Holiday Bazaar was successful on many levels. Baking, wood-working, sanding, painting, beading, trimming, gluing, and countless hours of creating our own masterpieces in the craft room came to full fruition on the morning of November 14th. At times, we needed a bigger table for all of the crafting hands! We had the best Swiss Village team, residents and employees alike, putting it all together. This is one of the best times of year! Celebrations and Cheer! Shopping and wrapping, snacking and laughing, praying and reflecting are some of what we enjoy about this time. As November came to a close, we were mindful of our blessings, pausing to give thanks. We welcome December with warmth in our hearts and pray for peace, love, and joy for all.
HEALTHCARE HAPPENINGS — Karen Rowell This has been a month for being thankful for the many blessings we enjoy in our lives, including our freedom and our families! Early in the month our resident veterans were honored, and all were inspired, with a Veteran's Day program hosted by the local American Legion post, especially for Health Care. Megan Miller also added much with her renditions of several patriotic songs. Later in the month we all enjoyed an evening with family and friends at our annual Harvest Socials. Russell Strome entertained us this year with lovely piano music, and together we shared snacks and refreshments of “Pumpkin Lasagna,” and remembered how blessed we are.

It is the most wonderful time of the year! It truly is! The early snow this year has made us think of and sing Christmas carols and think of good things to eat! We have several new craft items to complete for the fall and then some fun ones for the winter months including the snowmen you see in the picture! We continue to enjoy crock pot cooking with recipes staff members have brought in to try including Cheesy chicken and rice, heaven in a slow cooker, lasagna, and then we have made peanut butter cup cupcakes, fall snack mix, ranch crackers and candy corn on the cob. We are doing Wii games on Saturday mornings and take walks around the village on Thursday evenings to keep us more active especially during the winter months. We are looking forward to Thanksgiving and the Christmas season as it brings in many visitors and activities.
ALPENROSE PLACE: MEMORY CARE — Donna Stout In, November, we took pause to honor our greatest treasures, our brave men and women who served our country in uniform, protecting us from the evils of tyrants and protecting our way of life with a Veterans' Day program. Our veterans don’t ask for anything in return, but we owe them a debt of gratitude that can never be repaid. To our veterans, we extend are deepest gratitude and eternal thanks. Let us not forget their sacrifices for our sake, and may we always honor our veterans. The Harvest Social was held this month. Russell Strome performed for the residents and their guests. He did an outstanding job playing the piano.

turkeys and Thanksgiving. They have enjoyed making paperbag turkeys, gorgeous gobblers and singing Thanksgiving songs. Making turkey and pilgrim hats has been a favorite activity in the 3 year old room. They had a very interesting discussion regarding family traditions. You just never know what a 3 year old is going to tell you. The 4 & 5 year olds have been learning about bats and how they live in caves and sleep upside
down. They have had fun talking about turkeys, Indians and Pilgrims, and how the Indians showed the Pilgrims how to live in America.

CHARITABLE GIVING NEWS — Jennifer Lehman Imagine working your whole life and saving for retirement to find out that once you got further in retirement that your funds might not be enough to adequately care for yourself. As people are living longer than they ever expected this is reality for many of our residents. Your support of the Samaritan’s Endowment can ensure that are residents do not have to feel the burden of outliving their funds to get access to needed medical care. The Samaritan’s Endowment is one way in which we can live out our Christian faith. The fund was named after the Good Samaritan that Jesus referred to in Luke 10 when asked who our neighbor is. You too can be a neighbor to those in need! For the past 41 years the Samaritan’s Endowment has
been in existence solely because of generous and caring supporters such as you. Without your support we would no longer be able to live out this mission. As you are planning your yearend giving we invite you to remember the Samaritan’s endowment Fund. Your gift makes a difference in the lives of our residents, many of who are your family members, friends, neighbors, or church members. We would be honored if you were to include the Samaritan’s Endowment in your charitable giving through a year-end gift and/or estate planning. Thank you for being a neighbor to our residents in need of your support.
